I really like the Healthcare Handbook https://www.amazon.com/Health-Care-Handbook-Concise-United-ebook/dp/B0088CMAUU

It's very concise and covers a lot of crucial topics that you should be aware of going into medicine. For social/economic/political issues ... This is a tough one. A lot of your answers will depend on where you are on the political spectrum. So wherever you lie on that, stick to your conviction and back it with evidence. I am on the left with issues so that's what my answers reflect. So bottom line, be well read in those areas. I'd recommend "Sociology: The Essentials"

I think you need to read this book: http://www.amazon.com/Learn-Relax-Practical-Tension-Conquering/dp/0811819086

Memorize it to the point where you can recite it from memory. Make flashcards if it helps.

Or you could not do that and just relax.

Yeh, that's what I was aiming for. By my post, I was referring to using them on non-FL days but I think most people thought I meant FL days included. I want something wireless that I can also use for med school too so the price would be worth it. I hate the annoying lawnmowers though. Are these the ones you're referring to? https://www.amazon.com/Bose-QuietComfort-Wireless-Headphones-Cancelling/dp/B01E3SNO3E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1500574508&sr=8-1&keywords=Bose+QC+headphones

Heyyy I think you were the one who got her nails done before the day of the exam LOL congrats on your scoree !

I wore glasses and used their headset. I'm also used to wearing these all the time over glasses

I probably wore them for 80% of the time, as they got a little uncomfortable after an hour or so, but after a ten minute break they were fine again, and it's not like they were so sound cancelling that it made much of a difference. Except when our Prometric staff switched and the staff were friends and talked loudly about their other coworkers.

Here it is: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0997778253/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER (17/17 people who reviewed it gave it 5 stars.)
I like it because it focuses on all the high-yield concepts like electromagnetism, fluids, circuits, and optics.

That info is ALSO in the official guide book, but there is more to it than on that one link. I am talking about:

https://www.amazon.com/Official-Guide-Mcat-Exam-Mcat2015/dp/1577541332

And you can find the outline of what is on the test online of course (https://students-residents.aamc.org/applying-medical-school/article/whats-mcat-exam/), but I like to have something in my hands with which I don't have to worry about internet. The guide also has practice passages and questions, but if you don't want the book the AAMC has the practice passages online for purchase.

Has anyone used the McGraw hill FL tests? https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1259859622/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I figured 3 tests for $30 was a good deal. They don't have any score conversions, just a raw score

+1 on this suggestion. Mountains Beyond Mountains is a book by Tracy Kidder about Dr. Farmer. It's a really good read.

Are you referring to https://www.amazon.com/MCAT-Psychology-Sociology-Review-Princeton/dp/1101920602/ref=dp_ob_title_bk

Is just TPR and KA notes a good idea or is Kaplan a good supplement.

I'm using TBR for all other review but some people just use Kaplan for content and score 520+.....

u/bruohan · 1 pointr/Mcat

Are you talking about this book?

Because this is just a strategy guide. There are passages, yes, but it is not a CARS workbook with 70+ passages.

u/RobotSanchez · 1 pointr/Mcat

There are no shortcuts around content review. I recommend using Khan Academy playing videos on 1.5x speed with MCAT books as a supplement. Make sure you do the practice questions after each section.

Hardcore dedication to practice problems and exam strategies should be done after you have a firm grasp on all the concepts i.e. one month before the exam. I did 85% content 15% practice questions/strategy the first three months of preparation and 75% practice questions/strategy 25% content the last month before the exam.

You should use review at least two passages from this book every day to keep your CARS game up as it is the easiest place to lose points: https://www.amazon.com/MCAT-Verbal-Practice-Passages-Section/dp/1511766697

https://www.amazon.com/Critical-Analysis-Reasoning-Skills-Review/dp/0804125031

I have the newer one it has like MRI scans on the cover but they are similar I think.

Actually ear plugs fell out of my ear too, the reason is I wasn't putting them in correct. I squeeze them really small and twist and they go further into your ear than you would think. (Almost alarmingly but thats when you know you put them in correctly.) When they expand you hear nothing.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0035XGRVU/ref=ya_aw_oh_bia_dp?ie=UTF8&psc=1

This is specifically what I got. They each came packaged. I just use a new one everyday and will probably bring several to the test site.

u/footballa · 1 pointr/Mcat

NextStep has a book of 108 practice passages. I've seen a lot of apparently high scorers say that book is golden.

I have the ones linked below from Amazon.
Individually Sealed Earplugs]
They aren't the most comfortable for me, but my ears are tiny.
