I love that look, it's exactly what i was going for.
Butt pad doesn't absorb much recoil but is A LOT better than the steel plate and makes the stock long enough to hold comfortably. It was originally made for small russian farmers with shorter arms.

Cool. This one ? And small is the best size for the 91/30?
I've been running the Brassstacker on my 91/30 with the NC Star scope mentioned in the other post for years. Always held zero, glass left a little to be desired, especially after shooting such nicer scopes on my other rifles.
Upgraded to this because i wanted something better, and this fit the bill. Coupled with Zee Signature rings with the POS Alignment which lets me use ring inserts go achieve more adjustment due to the nature of the Brassstacker mounting.

It's not as bad as all the reading on the internet might cause you to believe. The best way to manage it is to keep it tight in your shoulder.
If you find it really bothers you, pick up a recoil pad for it. It helps with the recoil and adds some extra length to the back end of the stock. This bag fits my M91 perfectly, and seems to be reasonably well made.

Despite the low price point, they are very sturdy, but heavy. I am satisfied with them for storage and transportation.
I picked up a 30 cal bore snake, worked wonders definitely better than a cleaning rod IMO ! as for oil i use CLP cheap and effective i used it in iraq on all my weapons and never had a problem.

Use Ballistol, buy it on amazon. Works great for preventing rust and neutralizing corrosive ammo salts. I use it on my Mosin and my muzzleloader.

So, do I have the steps right? What kind of cherry stain? Is that the right Tung Oil?
A short reply would be appreciated, that gun looks nice. Mine.. less so. I scraped the laqure finish off in several places along the barrel, where I pulled off the rings so I could strip the gun down.

I second Plano. I've got their Gun Guard which is supposed to fit a single scoped rifle or shotgun.
It's 52" long, which fits my 1942 91/30 with ease.

I got this one off of amazon.
It does add a little bit of length but not noticeably because it replaces the metal plate.
Wear some layers and hold it tight to the meaty part of your shoulder (not your collarbone), and it's not bad at all.
If you are wearing thin clothes and/or holding the stock in the wrong spot and/or holding it loosely because you're anticipating the recoil, you're going to have a bad time.
