The way I read your comment was that Wright had a lot of projects that he started then left incomplete. I can understand having a lot of designs that were never built.
Speaking of the mile tall building, Neal Stephenson wrote a novella about a 20 km tall building that I recently read, which in the Neal Stephenson sort of way is as much about the notion of how one goes about building a 20 km tall building as much as it is a story. It's called Atmosphæra Incognita.
