I've got this one and this one

They both do a good job of protection but I greatly prefer the first one because the form factor is a little thinner and I like the texture and color better. The buttons feel a little better on the second one because they have some of the TPU removed from the button area to make it easier to press.

Both are well sized and have accurate cutouts. I have the US model purchased at Best Buy.

I bought the TUDIA lightweight case ($10.99 USD on Amazon), and it covers the bump perfectly to create a nice, flat back surface. And since it's lightweight, it hardly feels like there's a case at all. In fact, apart from the increased phone size, it feels a lot like my Moto G 1st Gen.

Note that this is the first case I've ever owned. I never really cared to use one in the past, but I bought this specifically to alleviate my concerns about the camera bump, and I can say that I'm 100% satisfied. (An added bonus is that it makes the phone totally black, since I don't particularly like the "lunar gray" or "fine gold" colors that the phone comes in.)

Hey there friendo;

Just to explain how the turbo charge works.
The devices use a special Qualcomm chip that manages the power.

You can plug it in to any 'normal' USB charger (including a computer USB port) and it will charge at a standard rate.

The only way you get the 'turbo charge' is if you use a charger (car or wall) that has that special Qualcomm chip inside of it.

That chip will then charge the device at 12 volts 1Amp (or in that neighborhood). They don't actually draw that much more current than normal devices.

If you're looking for a third-party charger, I've had super great luck with the Aukey brand chargers: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BBZJ31Y/

Yes, just not actually purchased anything yet.

The version you bought is ad supported, its kind of bloaty and the ads are annoying (theres guides on xda to remove this but if you fuck it up and are not used to it you can get stuck it bootloops or brick the phone) if your finances allows you should consider getting the standard 32gb version its $189 on amazon, also the device takes a very long time (all night) to charge with a normal charger, the turbo charger is 11 bucks and totally worth it, no more overnight charging, just an hour or two a day will do.
There is also a more expensive "Plus" version of the phone that includes the turbo charger, has a fingerprint scanner and a better camera.

In settings/security make your device manager is activated, its the equivalent of find my iphone. You can also consider a more robust antitheft app like cerberus.

Airdroid is a great app to manage and transfer big files through wifi ala airplay, it used to be indispensable for pics but the google photos app works pretty seemless now, the same for google drive for files and keep for notes.

I didn't know uag made a case for the g5. But anyway, I have bought 4 different cased for my g5 and the poetic revolution is by far the best. It has an excellent fit and finish. It gives the phone more protection than the others that I have tried as well. The only thing I don't like is the built in screen protector. I don't care for any built in protectors. So I put a tempered glass protector on and used a sharp knife to rove the built in protector. It works great. The Extreme is better in every way. Faster read/write and optimized for shooting in 4K. It's only $6 more. Just be sure to get the one that is rated U3/A1/V30.

If you do opt for the Ultra, just be sure that it is the one that is rated A1, so it is optimized for use with smartphone apps.

I've had good luck with Tudia cases. They're not too bulky, and the TPU inner shell is thick enough at the corners and the ends to absorb a typical drop impact. The hard shell and the soft shell fit together pretty well, and the cases have a nice look and feel IMO.

Hey op just received my case from amazon. It's very thin and it fits my G4 perfectly. I personally like clear case that could show off my personal design. i would recommend it.

Hi, I got the Sparin 2-pack and successfully installed it without trapping any dust particle.
The touch is smooth, colors, brightness etc everything worked great.

Wondering the same thing.

Also, regular G7 (with Alexa) is $200 or $230 at Best Buy.

From this writeup, it sounds like the Amazon add-ons are pretty low risk / easy to ignore if you don't want them.

TL;DR - I don't think we'll know what'll happen in a year or two. I don't even know what'll happen tomorrow. I -hope- it'll last 2 years, and as yet I don't see any reason why it wouldn't.

---------

Plenty of phones develop issues after a while. The Nexus 5X and 6P had bootloop and battery issues that many encountered. I don't think when those devices first came out people expected them to do such things. I'm still rocking an Nexus7 years later (though it has its own issues, that I've tried to work around—charging port is loose, so I use wireless (Qi) charging, and the power button is finicky, so I have an app to power down, and a case with a magnet that'll put it to sleep.)

Specifically for the Moto line, you can check out these "year later reviews" for the Moto G3 and Moto G4, and they seem to still be doing pretty well. And like /u/gardobus said, most people on forums and who write reviews are either very very happy, or very very angry, and fairly few inbetween. And the people who have issues are often the loudest.

I will say I would have preferred a USB-C port on the device, but the MicroUSB still does pretty well (but when its plugged in, don't move it around too much—maybe plug it in overnight, or if you are paranoid, use the quick charger included and charge it before you go to bed, and unplug it before you actually go to sleep). And get a screen protector or case, since I've found that even just a little case can make a big difference in the life and longevity or your device.

I'm ordering it from Amazon US and a third party shipping company. It's $179 and $199 for the 8GB and 16GB models respectively with free US shipping.

I would have to pay $250 if I purchased the 8GB model.

u/cookieraid · 1 pointr/MotoG

I use a TUDIA TPU case. It's thin, but helps flatten the camera bump in the back. My only qualm was it was a little slippery at first. With a little use, it's sticky enough to have a good grip.

Moto G Play (4th gen.) - Black - 16 GB - Unlocked - 149$ 129$ at Amazon without ads or any of that nonsense, this is the one I bought for my dad and sister last year, it's still a great deal I think :)

Edit: It is now 129$!

I tried some cases like that, and to be honest, they didn't work very well. The stand is very unstable when the stand is out and the case is too thick to accommodate the stand. Most of them are quite hard and don't feel good in the hand. I tried about three different brands.

What I decided to do instead is get this stand: http://www.amazon.com/Nite-Ize-QuikStand-Mount-Packaging/dp/B00HUV8GNU/ I really like it and keep it in my wallet as it is the size of a credit card. That way, I always have it when I need it. It works for tablets too and can be used with the device vertical or horizontal. I notice that there are other ones on amazon that are cheaper, but not as small, like: http://www.amazon.com/Folding-Desktop-Mobile-Holder-Orange/dp/B00LDW02CK/ but I have not tried them.

The other problem with most of the moto g cases is that they cover the power and volume buttons which gives them a terrible feel and makes the buttons harder to find and push. Finally, I found one that I like that has cutouts for the buttons and so doesn't have this problem. I am very happy with the Cruzerlite Bugdroid Circuit Case: http://www.amazon.com/Cruzerlite-Bugdroid-Circuit-Case-Motorola/dp/B00GWOQI1S/ This case has cutouts for all the buttons so the buttons feel the same as if you had no case on the phone.

Note that my phone is a first gen moto g lte - if you have the 2014 model I think you need this one: http://www.amazon.com/Cruzerlite-Bugdroid-Circuit-Case-Moto/dp/B00N71ATBE/ These items cost less than ten dollars each. Let us know if you find something you like.

AFAIK, there's no official shell grip like the older 2nd and 3rd gen models. but in the Amazon's "Customers who bought this item also bought" section of Moto G5 Plus' product page, you'll find many good suggestions.

u/kiaha · 1 pointr/MotoG

So this one and this one are okay to get if I want to root them and everything?

Looking at a new phone and these look promising but if I can't unlock the bootloader I don't wanna bother.

u/Diazepam · 1 pointr/MotoG

I have this one, so would this flashing process work for me?

Thanks.

Here's the case I use. Very thin and light.

As for screen protectors, I used this but it's a fingerprint magnet regardless of what it says, and is highly reflective due to being a non-matte tempered glass protector. No bubbles in my experience though, as the installation was unusual, but it worked great to prevent bubbles from surfacing.

If you want no fingerprints and to reduce reflection, get a screen protector with a "matte" look to it.

Okay, so worth paying more for this G7 with 4GB RAM on sale for $199, https://www.amazon.com/Moto-G7-Alexa-Hands-Free-Unlocked/dp/B07N92347B I seem to recall seeing similar pricing for this phone elsewhere (Best Buy?).

My sons break phones, so I like getting inexpensive ones. I wouldn't call the G6 cheap exactly. It's quality for the price.

Poetic Revolution Moto G5 Plus Rugged Case With Hybrid Heavy Duty Protection and Built-In Screen Protector for Motorola Moto G5 Plus (2017) Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XCP12HS/

I use a case very similar to this for my moto g4 and it's awesome. It can be a pain to put the case on so prob a good idea to install your sim and micro sd first before placing the phone into the case.

EDIT-stripped referral id from url.

US GSM or
Gobal GSM? They are both there for me.

There is no such thing as the "Amazon model", Amazon is just a retailer.

u/ignition386 · 6 pointsr/MotoG

(4) probably refers to the card speed class. Class 4 is the slowest microSD card speed, and Maxell isn't really a top-performing brand.

Suggest getting a Class 10 (UHS-I) card from Samsung or Sandisk. Both have 32GB cards for $13 on Amazon.
