#1 Question I have been asked is "I don't have a fruiting chamber, how do I fruit?"

IF YOU DON'T HAVE A FRUITING CHAMBER, CONSIDER
THIS! I have personally grown in the 5 tier variant with equal success to my fruiting chamber, though it required misting & air exchanges with fanning - a small ultrasonic humidifier on a timer is a great step towards automation, in addition to that, a fan on a timer exchanging air is even better! I modified my 5 tier to include a PC fan. Another idea is DIY greenhouse, improvise a DIY solution with plastic & wire hangers (or hanging wire from the hardware store), or whichever materials your DIY self are comfortable using. Again, I have done this, and it works so long as you pay attention to humidity levels and exchanging air.

Again, any questions, please PM! I will offer free consultation to anyone growing on a personal level.

Ah sorry about that, didn't mean to come off as pedantic with the whole debate comment. I've just seen a lot of people in the shroom subs lately asking if their humidity is off and none of them had something to measure proper humidity, so I guess I just assumed, you know? is it enough/too much water? -if you star using the equipment you can get an idea of what specific humidity looks like after a while.

As far as the one I use. I'm not going to say it's the most high end one but it's been great for my last flushes and is still consistent (about 6 so far). Sorry to hear about yours buying the farm.

I really do think it's the genetic of the mushroom in question that gave it that cracked look. In all honesty now I'm intrigued and am going to direct fan my next monoculture to see if it does make a difference.

Edit: good luck on your grows, friend!

I had posted a similar question earlier and there didn't seem to be much response to it. From what I've read online, oyster mushrooms have pretty strong sporulation, and you can develop allergies etc from breathing a ton of it. With 9x5lb blocks that will probably be a lot of spores, and taking a few precautions is never a bad idea.

I am setting up a shelf greenhouse similar to your setup, and my plan is to put HEPA filters on the 120mm (computer/muffin) fans to filter the exhaust from the greenhouse.

There is a great 3D printing part designed for this exact thing.

I've printed it and it seems good so far, but I haven't actually finished setting it up. By cutting correctly shaped holes in the greenhouse (probably securing the fan with zipties) and sealing around it, you should be able to fix both your FAE problem and prevent most of the spores from leaving the greenhouse.

HEPA filters are usually 0.2-0.5 micron, and the spores are on the order of 2 micron, so they should work pretty well. As a backup / to keep the room tidy in general, I've also picked up one of these floor fans with a HEPA filter off of Amazon. That will also help remove them from the air, as some will definitely get loose over time.

Once I have my system set up I'm planning on putting up a few photos, but it'll be another week or two.

Sorry for the wall of text, hope it helps!

You're welcome -- glad I could help!

If you decide to go with large tubes, these are similar to the tubes I use, but there are cheaper options: 1, 2, 3, etc. It's important to look for tubes that are listed as either "sterile" or "autoclavable." I like the pre-sterilized packs because that's less work for me.

There are a lot of techniques out there, so sometimes it helps to list them out into categories with a few details underneath each. With a list like that, you can go through it all at a glance and decide what aligns with your budget, material availability, and level of effort/interest.

Let us know what you end up deciding to do and how it works out for you. I'm sure a lot of folks around here would like to see it!

Man you're busy! I've heard king oyster doesn't fruit on straw, so I'll be very interested if you have different results.

I'm going pretty strong too.

I've still got my four bags of oysters in the fruiting chamber, they're going through their third flush now. I just ordered this short cycle timer which will hopefully solve my FAE issues. I also plan on installing some CFL bulbs on a timer. I don't think they're getting enough light either.

I also want to make an incubator.

In addition, I was wondering what I'm going to do if I'm out of the house for longer periods. I currently have to refill the humidifier at least every other day. I think what I'm going to do is get a five gallon bucket, drill a hole in the side near the bottom and another in the humidifier reservoir, connect them with a tube, so the bucket can feed the humidifier. That should last ten or eleven days then.

In the closet nearby I have three bags of hardwood sawdust/wheat bran/gypsum I just transferred reishi spawn to, and they're already taking off. I have one bag of substrate with lion's mane grain spawn in it. My lion's mane rye had a very hard time, it was just too dry in there. It sat for several weeks and only the bottom got colonized, so in my SAB I scooped that out with a sterilized cup and transferred it. Fingers crossed.

I had my first go at the cup 'o agar tek. It did not go well. I managed to get 15 cups filled before my needle was clogged. Of those, a couple contaminated and most of the others turned to sludge after they solidified. I think I was too liberal with the alcohol which would also explain why nothing will grow in the good ones. I did find one cup that looks like it's in good shape, so I'm seeing if some oyster spores will do their thing in there.

I also have a bag of rye inoculated with golden oyster which is doing well so far, and another inoculated with king oyster that's been sitting for probably two weeks now with zero sign of growth. I'm a little bummed about that.
