You can probably find Speculaas cookies - I believe I've seen them before at trader joe's. They may also be spelled speculoos. Stroopwafels would be my other suggestion but I think they are harder to find.

In terms of cheese, you can probably find Old Amsterdam.

Depending on where you are in California, there may be a dutch specialty shop. Pretty sure there's one in South Bay if you happen to be in the Bay Area.

As a kid I really enjoyed a broodje hagelslag (who wouldn't want chocolate sprinkles on their bread for breakfast?!?) and you could probably recreate that with generic chocolate sprinkles. Just butter a few pieces of bread, top with hagelslag/chocolate sprinkles and cut into mini portions. It's also kind of a fun word to try to get people to say! hagggelslaggggggg

Pet Carries must be IATA approved, here is a site that lists the requirements, however every airline has a special set of rules, but this list will get you started. http://www.pettravel.com/passports_container_requirements.cfm

Here is a document on preparing the pet and kennel for travel: http://www.pettravel.com/airline_pet_rules/preparing-your-pet-for-travel-as-checked-baggage-or-air-cargo.pdf

I purchased my carriers from Amazon. These ones: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003E6YYYK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

'Insert STROOPWAFEL comment here'

But aside from those, hagelslag is a good one, or maybe 'beschuit met muisjes' (traditional anise/sugary sprinkles eaten on a 'beschuitje' when a child is born, blue for a boy and pink for a girl)
And if you can get them, bitterballen!

PS: Licorice (drop) is also a really good one, for some reason us Dutchies and the Finnish seem to be the only ones that really like it...?
Also, TIL drop is insanely expensive on amazon in the US...

Why the Dutch Are Different by Ben Coates. It’s a pretty easy read and is fairly entertaining.

I used this Three UK SIM card for a trip to Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, and England last year and it was great. I’m going to the Netherlands again in August and am using one this time too.

A few years ago I got a Lycamobile SIM and it was fine too, but I don’t know if you can use it in other countries.

You can buy them on amazon.co.uk but I have looked it up and can't find any Dutch stores that sell them.
