Welcome to the Nexus 6P gang! Just got mine a couple of days ago too and was looking at cases too.

I have this one that I could order and get very quickly on Amazon but it depends where you live:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0146MZSPY/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1480706781&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=nexus+6p+moko+case&dpPl=1&dpID=41zk455GngL&ref=plSrch

I quite like it. It gives you decent protection, it feels good in hand and it has a striking design on the back. It also doesn't make the phone much thicker. It depends on if you like the feel of the back design in hand, though, and how much protection/bulk you want.

I was thinking of buying this one too at some point for a bit of better protection:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00JP6FPZA/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1480706781&sr=8-3&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=nexus+6p+moko+case&dpPl=1&dpID=51Tl6fOWkjL&ref=plSrch

It does make the phone a fair amount thicker, apparently, but gives pretty good protection and the rubberised back is very grippy, as I understand it.

For the sleek and nice case, you have the Spigen Neo

For the slim but protective, you have the i-Blason Armorbox

For the neat but with a nice feel, you have the Diztronic Matte

For the silicone and hard shell, you have the TUDIA Hybrid

For the retro-chic, you have this Generic Gameboy Case which is my personal favorite.

Hope you enjoy your new Nexus 5.

The case I'm using on it right now is actually quite thick (although not as ridiculously thick as a typical Otterbox case for the iPhone). This is the case I've been using since day one. It's a rather nice case, but the thickness does make the phone slightly bulkier. However, my original reply above was written based on my use of the 6P with this case on it every day, so even with a thick case, I still feel like the phone's size is manageable. I must point out that the phone is slightly easier to use without the case on it. (On a somewhat unrelated note, the lip on the sides of the case also is not high enough to fit over top of a glass screen protector, so be aware that the buttons on the side of the case will be misaligned with the actual buttons on the phone.)

If you're worried about the size and you're not prone to accidentally dropping your phone from more than a couple of feet in the air, I would just go with a thinner TPU case. I like my case, but it has its flaws, and there are definitely thinner ones out there for the 6P.

Also came from a GNex on Verizon to a N5 on TMobile, and I've gotta say it is worth the upgrade, and then some. I actually just went two full days on a single charge with full brightness, all WiFi, but still, I wouldn't have dreamed of going that long on the GNex a month or so after I had bought it. Been running this phone for 2 months or so now, and I love it.

As for cases, it's all subjective. I use this case and I really like it. It's no flip cover, but it's got enough of a protruding edge that if it were to fall face down, it wouldn't land on the screen. Hope this helps!

Oh, and get the 32GB version. Only $50 more and gives you a lot more flexibility when you decide to root (backups be huge!)

You could always manually flash the new update, this thread on XDA may help you out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2415497

Alternatively, the safer and easier option would be to plug in a USB mouse into your tablet using something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Micro-USB-Male-Female-Adapter/dp/B0027YYMU6
The first Nexus 7 supported external devices like this so I would assume the new one does as well.

Yup. Tempered glass from my go to screen protector brand Tech Armor. They have good prices (usually like 12 bucks) and the best customer service ever.

The case is [this one](MoKo Nexus 6P Case - [Anti Drop] Halo Series Hybrid Cover with TPU + Clear PC Back Panel Bumper Cover for Huawei Google Nexus 6P 5.7 Inch 2015 Smartphone, Crystal Clear https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NTQ2NNE/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_wSA7wbVYJA9B7).

>Do you recommend using cases/skins? How about screen protectors?

I never use screen protectors, my 5x looks fine after 6 months of use. I'm a lady though, so I don't pocket my phone often and when I do it's in a back pocket by itself. I'm also a case minimalist and have been happy with this clear case.

>I hear some people have had problems with battery life and overheating. Is this common?

No issues here in ~6 months of use. If you are a heavy user you may have to charge during the day but quick charge makes this super painless, and the battery saver function actually works really well in a pinch. I drive a lot and a quick charge capable car charger is amazing - even a short drive between meetings is enough to give significant charge.

>To those who have had theirs for several months, how's it holding up?

Just fine. Still performs as expected, no major glitches or issues, have only had to hard restart it due to quirky behavior two or three times all of which came after an extended period of not power cycling the device coupled with an app crash that caused things to go wonky.

>Are there any other downsides that I should know about?

Not from where I'm sitting. My 5x is a daily driver device for me and I'm a business owner that is often more out of the office than in.

I bought something like this to take the phone apart. It is a very easy process to get to the camera module. I'm not sure how you would go about cleaning it. I'd assume you just have some dust on the inside part of the phone (not inside the module?). Google an ifixit article and give it a shot! The Nexus 5 was the first phone I ever took apart and it was very simple.

(I had to remove my camera modules - front and back - due to security at my job). Good luck!

I just ordered it, expecting it tomorrow, but this one appears perfect.

The 1st Quick Charge + USB-C Portable Charger in The World - RAVPower 20100mAh External Battery Pack Power Bank

You can charge it with USB-C, use the USB-C for 5V/3A charging, has QC 2.0 if needed, other ports, large capacity. Also has great reviews.

Like I said, about $50. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MY45AU4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_Z2SEOqioxK8jI

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FJI878O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_PaKHXFDAzslK3

It's not the easiest thing in the world, but it's not impossible. Video: https://youtu.be/zEQbQPAU9Ss

If you buy the case though, it's not a huge deal. You can mess it up pretty good, but still have a nice new phone when you're done.

If you want to change the color, note that you'll need the SIM card tray and the fingerprint reader too. Also available on Amazon for less than $10 each.

u/iamluke · 4 pointsr/Nexus

It's really lightweight, much easier to hold with one hand than the iPad. The screen is really nice, although I noticed the speaker isn't the best (I wasn't expecting it to be at all though).

I highly recommend you buy one of these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B005FUNQXS/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00 and use an Xbox controller (or use bluetooth if you have a PS3 controller) and download FPSe and play some Tekken 3 or other PSone games. Seriously, it's a blast.

Supcase unicorn beetle. Protection seems pretty good and its not slippery like spigen slim armor. Plus it looks way better than any other cases imo

u/faz712 · 2 pointsr/Nexus

Verus looks really nice, feels awesome

u/jmowens51 · 7 pointsr/Nexus

Not sure how slim you want but I've been very happy with the Spigen Rugged Armor.

u/akashik · 2 pointsr/Nexus

This one from Pleson is great. Highly recommended.

u/catlatte · 6 pointsr/Nexus

I've had good experiences with Spigen in the past so I went with this one: http://www.amazon.com/Spigen-Rugged-Resilient-Ultimate-protection/dp/B016CBFBVI

It seems like it does the job well without adding too much bulk. Not sure how I feel about that faux carbon fiber look on the back though.

u/oldneckbeard · 1 pointr/Nexus

I ordered the Spigen Rugged Armor. Seems to be a favorite, after they fixed all their sensor-blocking issues.

If that one is too bulky or grippy (like collecting all dust from my pocket, not coming out of pocket easily, etc), I'll probably look at the Spigen Exact Fit.

u/AthenesWrath · 2 pointsr/Nexus

I have this flash-drive. It works perfectly and is compatible with everything. Also I use the ES File Explorer App to transfer files.

u/sangerpb · 5 pointsr/Nexus

I love this one: I got the smoke one.

u/sbach89 · 3 pointsr/Nexus

Bought this. Works perfectly.

u/thegrau · 1 pointr/Nexus

I don't know about adapters, but I can confirm that this works very well.

u/SaiyanOfDarkness · 1 pointr/Nexus

Funny you should say that.. Look what I ordered before you even said anything.

Spigen [Rugged Armor] Resilient [Black]

Really like it, not a big fan of carbon fiber but it's such a minor part of the design that I got past it.

After OS I have 25.01 GB left. I have no large games on my phone, and the app that uses the most storage is Google play music (current list is 3.5 GB).

For extra storage you could use Google drive 2$ (monthly) for 100GB or if you use Office 365 you already have 2TB on OneDrive.

Or you could buy an usb-c stick.
