I feel like most people would agree with you on the abstraction point. I personally don't find the experiences very different, except for that with pattern drafting you have to do most of the thinking in advance.
See, plush being more durable is not always the case. A properly constructed needlefelt is plenty durable. There are a few companies that make simple ones as specifically extra durable dog toys. An example here.
A plush's durability is determined by its thread, stitching, and fabric. It's easier to make something middle-of-the-road here if you've got your hands on a sewing machine. Harder for hand-stitching, though.
I'll grant you sewing has more varied usage. While it's possible to needlefelt a pair of pants, I'm not sure why anyone'd want to.
Hey I’d check out CustomInk.com and make a custom raglan shirt (Bella + Canvas Lightweight Baseball Raglan — select the white one with the Maroon sleeves). Then because I doubt most places will have the Texas Orange color of the base of Mae’s shirt, you could dye it yourself using something like this Rit Liquid Dye. You can either make your own stencil and do the slashed zero design on the shirt yourself with acrylic fabric paint and textile medium or CustomInk actually has a design template there (go to Add Art > Shapes and Symbols > No Symbol) and you can change the color of it to Maroon/resize it and make the symbol. However I just realized the design on Mae’s shirt is a little different in the sense that the strikethrough goes over the outline of the circle a bit. It does give you an option to upload your own picture (in the template designer select Upload instead of Add Art) though so I think you could probably reverse this image and change the color in photoshop and use it. If you’d rather just stencil the design on yourself you might be better off ordering a white raglan with Maroon sleeves off Amazon, or going to a local sporting goods store (don’t know what you have specifically in Australia as I’m in the US) and buying one in person.
