Here is a video that goes over current SD card specifications pretty well. I'll post what I got out of it and a little bit of additional research:

CAPACITY

There are three different types of SD cards that indicate a size range. SD cards are up to 2GB and are useless for our purposes. SDHC cards are from 4-32 GB and are ill-advised since 32GB isn't really enough. What we're interested in is SDXC cards which are from 64GB to 2TB. Each card has a micro version which is what we need. Capacity type doesn't have an impact on performance.

WRITE SPEED

There are two different families of speed classes that indicate a minimum write performance. The first, traditional speed class comes in Class 2, Class 4, Class 6, and Class 10. The number corresponds to their write speed, Class 2 is 2MB/s, class 10 is 10MB/s. This class is denoted by their number inside of a "C".

The other family of speed class is UHS. There are only two types, type 1 and type 3. These are denoted by their number inside of a "U" shaped symbol. UHS1 writes at 10MB/s, UHS3 writes at 30MB/s. That means the Class 10 and UHS1 have the same minimum write performance, but we're just going to look at UHS cards from now on. It is possible for a card to claim a UHS class speed, and a Class 10 speed.

Bus Interface

There are two different bus interfaces for UHS cards, UHS-I and UHS-II. These are denoted by roman numerals rather than our numbers. UHS-II cards have a second row of connection pins on the back of the card, while UHS-I just has the single row. UHS-II cards can transfer data faster than UHS-I cards when they are in a UHS-II compatible machine. If the machine is not UHS-II compatible then there is no benefit, however the UHS-II card will still work as it is backwards compatible. It does not look like the Nintendo Switch is UHS-III compatible, so there is no benefit to using a UHS-II card in it, which is a shame because the II interface can help read speeds tremendously.

So what is Nintendo recommending with OP's card? A microSDXC UHS3-I card. Meaning it is a micro version of a 64GB card, with the best write speed class, and the standard/worse Bus interface.

Nintendo-licensed Sandisk microSDXC 64GB UHS3-I for $19.99

Non licensed Sandisk microSDXC 64GB UHS3-I card for $23

/u/Nobody_is_lurking posted two contenders...

Sandisk microSDXC 64GB UHS1-I card for $14.25

Sandisk microSDXC 128GB UHS1-I card
for $23.25

...but it isn't actually an apples to apples comparison, as they are both UHS1 rather than UHS3. The $6 question is how big of a difference is there functionally between the two speed classes when actually being used by a Switch, which someone already took the time to test!

The results show that, when write speed was involved, the difference was significant, and that installed games can go by 3x faster using a UHS3 card. So sure, the UHS3 is a clear winner for installing, but what people really care about are load times, showed a less drastic story. Installing locally on the Switch beats any external storage options that we're looking at, then the UHS3 trailed shortly behind, with UHS1 following a little longer. For a regularly installed game the difference in load times doesn't seem to be more than a couple of seconds, even if the load time is a minute long. This guy also tested homebrew launched games though, which did show a much bigger difference between UHS1 and UHS3. So there is a difference in load time, but just not a massive one that many people would notice.

Looking at value, for whatever reason the Nintendo-licensed cards are currently cheaper than their equivalent nonlicensed cards, both the 64Gb and 128GB. Obviously the UHS-1 is cheaper than the UHS-3 across the board.

But if you want to branch away from Sandisk you can have the best of both worlds with a Samsung 64GB UHS3-I card for $15 The price per MB stays consistent at bigger sizes as well, so if you wanted a 128GB one it'd be $30.

tl;dr Buy this one. It is better and cheaper.

I know I'm late to the thread but I just want to thank you for setting all this information up. Website's amazing and easy to digest.

I watched a Digital Foundry video on Power Banks for the Switch, and with dead hyperlinks ended up buying this RAVPower 26800, not realizing that there are different models with the same name (and not knowing to look out for certain abbreviations nor what they mean).

Luckily I ran into this thread on a sub I don't browse and was able to return it not realizing the Switch has a USB-C port (and that A-to-C is suboptimal). I was able to get an upgrade (funnily enough not the "upgrade available" model on the first item's page) with minimal turnaround and cost.

I don't have a Switch yet, as I'm getting all my accessories first like microSD cards and cases. But I would have been really bummed to find out how subpar my original power bank would have been while playing on the go for the first time, and your easy-to-use site prevented that.

Thanks again.

I just got a switch and love everything I bought. It really depends on what you're going to do with it. If it's for portable gaming, a stand is a must. The HORI stand is only $14 US and allows you to charge while playing.

If you plan on playing with friends, consider another set of joy cons. I also invested in Surge joy con grips so they felt more comfortable in my hand.

If you plan on playing a lot of single player, then pro controller.

I plan on mostly single player and couch co-op games, so here's what I bought:

Screen Protector

Joy Con charging station

Extra Joy Con set

4 Joy Con grips

Pro Controller

*Links are just to show what I bought, and in no way reflect the best/most reasonable price

Since I'm not going to be doing much portable, I held off on stand and case, but will most likely purchase when I am in need. Maybe the stand sooner than later so my wife can watch her shows and I can play my Zelda :)

u/queuebitt · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

Those kind of products are more about convenience than being the best option.

You definitely want a screen protector. The amFilm 2-pack is considered the best around here.

You also want a carrying case. I recommend either the Hestia Goods or Butterfox models. I have the former and love it. The later is the most recommended around Reddit.

Between the screen protector and case from Amazon you're at the same $20 as the starter kit. So you can either get two high quality items, or more lower (but doable) quality items.

u/BirdAlien · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitchDeals

I would suggest an SD card if you're thinking about buying anything digital in the future.

As for games, I would recommend MK8DX. I also have a younger sis, she loves the game - the smart steering really helps her not get frustrated by running into walls or being confused on where to go like in the other mario karts. Have fun :)

I would suggest the following screen protector, it has been pretty solid for me, I have screwed up a couple times applying a second one though, so you may want to grab 2 sets just in case, make sure you apply it in a fairly dust free environment...

For the case, if you can, I would suggest getting the Zelda Special Edition, it comes with a pretty solid case along with music CD and such, Good build quality

u/TrollinTrolls · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitchDeals

I recommend this one. It's cheaper and you can charge 2 joy cons ,or 1 joy con and 1 pro controller, or 2 pro controllers. Works great, too.

u/KurisuFuransu · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

I'm unsure if it matters for the Switch, but these are U1 rated, guaranteed minimum data speed of 10mbps. Samsung has a U3 (30mbps) card for only slightly more:

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-MicroSD-Adapter-MB-ME128GA-AM/dp/B06XWZWYVP/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1526399448&sr=8-1&keywords=samsung+128

I still don't need a MicroSD card quite yet for my Switch, but Sandisk and Samsung are both solid names in the memory space, so I'd trust either of them. Hopefully the 256GB returns to a good price, the 128GB sure seems like a deal.

u/GRtheRaffler · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitchDeals

Just purchased a brand new Switch from Amazon, along with screen protectors and a case. Only game I have ATM is a physical copy of Super Mario Odyssey (48.7$ from Amazon). Got 52$ left on Amazon as gift balance, and wanted to know if there is something else I should purchase from there (accessories or games, doesn't matter). I assume I need to look for physical cartridges locally henceforth. What other stuff should I look out for?

P.S. Not purchasing BOTW. Already finished it. Looking mostly for local MP/coop stuff to play with my younger sis, like MK8, Bomberman etc.

u/PinoyLaker · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitchDeals

How many of you are using a grip on your switch? Any recommendations and is it mandatory?

Also, I just bought this ultra slim protective case from Tomtoc, on a lightning deal for $16.99, and I really do like it and how slim it is. But I also saw that Tomtoc had this case that came with a free grip for the same if not lesser price than the ultra slim. What do you guys think. I’ve only had my switch for about a week and probably gonna play 60-70% in console mode and the rest handheld. What’s nice about the ultra slim is that it fits in a couple of my shoulder bags when I take on the go.

u/bigbillpdx · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

Just got this earlier this week and it works great: USB Type C to HDMI Digital AV Multiport Hub, USB-C (USB3.1) Adapter PD Charger for Nintendo Switch,Portable 4K HDMI Dock for Samsung Dex Station S10/9/8/Note8/9/Tab S4/S5,MacBook Pro/Air 2018,iPad Pro https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JK9DFKH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_.insDbSJHYSQW

I bought the official power supply from Walmart last week when it was $15.99. So for $43 I have a great second dock/travel dock solution.

u/C4RB0N · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

It's nice that someone could pick up the EVO+ from Best Buy right away, but the Samsung Evo Selects are the same price on Amazon and have better write speeds https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XWZWYVP/ref=twister_B071R715MZ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

u/ticktak10 · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

Yeah I felt that too when I tried the demo on the switch. I think it is because of the offset analog sticks when compared to the playstation's controller with the analog sticks on the same axis. I've seen a usb dongle that can allow the switch to accept any bluetooth controller so you could play with a ps3 or ps4 controller. These are two I've looked at since the regular joycons keep cramping my hands.

Here's the Amazon link with out any tracker in url link

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MS6MO77/

Basically, having this "https://www.amazon.com/dp/" as base and then looking for "B0......" as you saw from my link. Done! And if it was .../B01MS6MO77?ref=... , don't include ?ref=... until the end. This is also the tracker that saying where did you come from.

B01MS6MO77 is like an ID for the item you are looking on Amazon. So this is all you need.

Hope this help!

Just a heads up, do not get this one. It protects nicely, but even with a perfect application the edges lift up in two spots.

The 128GB version is also $51 with free shipping from a trusted seller.https://www.amazon.ca/gp/offer-listing/B072RT1R41/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new

Ignore the 128GB EVO+. Turns out there's both EVO+ and EVO Plus cards from Samsung, and the + variant is much slower, especially in write speeds.

For 128GB I'd stick with the Sandisk Ultra.

The Sandisk Ultra 64GB card is also $26.72 with free Prime shipping. https://www.amazon.ca/SanDisk-Ultra-microSDXC-Adapter-SDSQUAR-064G-GN6MA/dp/B073JYVKNX/ref=pd_cp_147_3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=4P9X75DYF2BGQ0TRX8MA

12 Switch actually has updates that aren't available for 12 Steam -- allowing you to respec your jobs and gives you your gear in New Game Plus mode. So it's ultimately the best version of 12 out right now.

Final Fantasy X / X-2 is also available for a similar price, although there aren't any major updates to X / X-2 on Switch as compared to other platforms (the names for the ultimate weapons are restored to their better sounding Japanese versions, apparently):

X-2 is a digital download, however.

I have the amFilm tempered glass screen protector on mine and I really like it. I was hesitant about a screen protector at first because I normally don't put them on my devices, but I can hardly even tell that this one is on my Switch. No issues with glare that I've noticed either, and it's usually <= $10. (And that comes with 2, in case you mess up or wanna give one to a friend)

I don't have a battery pack for it, but I've been looking into them for a buddy of mine who is going on a trip from the US to the UK in a few months. The one I've been really thinking about is the RAVPower 20100 . It's on the more expensive end (~$50) but it is compatible with the Switch and will charge it ~3-4 times and only takes 4-5 hours to recharge the power bank.

As for the case I got one at Toys R Us last summer for about $20 and it has been fine. It's got some padding to protect the screen, and has these little plastic cases that can hold like 3 games and an SD card each I think... It doesn't have a ton of storage space, but it works. It depends on how much you want to put in there, but you definitely want some inside padded layer that lays on top of the screen so that nothing you put in there will put too much pressure on there.

u/jrt364 · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

I just want to say... I have this RAVPower one and it's held up after many uses. I think it's worth the asking price, even without a sale. But since it's on sale, it's even better. :)

u/fish_taco_pirate · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitchDeals

I really like this one. If you don't need to bring any accessories with you it's great.

u/RickyCZ · 28 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

If you are going full digital the mininum you need is 200/256GB but if you still buy physical games then 128GB is good enough. I bought one with 128GB but from Samsung because I trust them more when it comes to flash storage(Their SSDs are great) and because I have read multiple times that you can get fake ones when buying this SanDisk model even with Amazon as a seller.

Here is the Samsung model if you want to purchase one:

That is my go to sd card for Switch and certain other devices.

u/iamkluverbucy · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

I like this one, too. But wasn't there one around that charged the joy cons and pro controller, but also had the ability to charge both pro controllers at the same time too? I can't seem to find it now though.

Edit: found it!

u/MrSquamous · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitchDeals

But since the Anker's power adapter won't power the Switch in docked/TV mode, and we're talking about portable here, you'll still need to buy another, better power adapter so you only have to carry one when you travel.

The comparable Ravpower is a better deal, allows passthrough charging, AND actually does come with a power adapter right now. All for $80, less than the Anker.

Then you have to swap between 2 cards. The 256GB Samsung is way overpriced, especially since you can just get this SanDisk for $44.99. The extra $5 to not have to swap between cards is well worth it IMO.

u/GalaxyVulpix · 10 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

Assuming that Screen protector is plastic, you probably shouldn't use it, all you would be doing is putting plastic on plastic.

I recommend getting a protector made out of Tempered Glass like this instead.

u/bruce_wayne23 · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

The claim that the switch only supports UHS-1 cards does not mean it wont work. You need at least a minimum of a U1 and U3 cards such as the Samsung WILL work. The U basically is just speed and won't matter on the Switch.

So the for people that prefer Samsung storage they can also get the same size 128gb for $19.99 from Samsung as well.

I'm not understanding why this is such an amazing deal. Isn't this just an overpriced "switch" branded UHS Speed Class U3 Speed Class 10 Micro SD card that can be bought every day without the "Switch" branding for $19-$20 Example

u/largepanda · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitchDeals

The AmazonBasics Switch Case is fucking fabulous. I have the yellow puke green colored one, and it's great.

Every tempered glass screen protector for the Switch (perhaps excluding the Zagg InvisibleShield one) is the exact same protector, made by the same factory in China, and just put in a different shaped box with different branding and applicator tools.

I suggest the amFilm shaped box, it's the one I bought personally and had a good experience getting a replacement when I managed to accidently crack the first one I got during application, and then fuck up putting on the second one :/.

works well so far, but im sure there will be issues with games that use gryo. (i dont actually own a switch, just borrowing my buddy's until i get one this black friday/xmas )

u/breezytrees · 8 pointsr/NintendoSwitchDeals

I went with the pro gaming elite bundle and it's a game changer.

I also bought this ravpower 26800 powerbank which the case was specifically made to fit and it fits like a glove.

It can also fit a spare set of joycons (complete with the bumpers attached), an 8bit sn30pro, this portable dock, and this small charger, complete with all cables required except the hdmi cable.

Full disclosure, that dock and compact charger works with latest switch firmware, but the dock has died once already and was replaced under warranty by the manufacturer. If I were to do it again I'd probably switch to the bionic all in one dock that includes charger, hdmi cable, and everything.

Edit: Bonus: I also attached a pro controller to the unit via this molded controller case attached to the satisfy case via the provided carabiner - or I would if this particular part of my setup wasn’t stolen.

Also wondering about the 256 GB one as I haven't decided yet
