Good stuff dude. Hobbies is tricky, not many people have any idea what the hell would be a good hobby for them. It also depends on if you have spare cash or not, and your living circumstances. I've always wanted to do this: https://vimeo.com/56287630 but it seems like it'd be an expensive thing to start.
There are a lot of artistic things that can be great fun that can later lead to a career if you enjoy it and stick with it: drawing, painting, graphic design on the computer, illustration, calligraphy, 3D rendering, movie making. Photography is a fun hobby and easy to get into.
Here's some sites with suggestions:
http://freeintenyears.com/frugal-tips/100-cheap-hobbies/
http://www.mantelligence.com/50-fun-hobbies-for-men/
Really you just have to choose something that sounds fun and go for it, don't let yourself get too hung up on picking something, there's no harm in trying it and then if you don't enjoy it moving onto something else. Even if it does cost you a bit of money to learn that its nothing something you want to continue to do.
Ultimately I suggest people find things outside of gaming, as overall it's rather unproductive (no long term reward, doesn't produce anything other than temporary entertainment). Same with docos and movies and stuff, they're great for learning and entertainment but they still don't produce much tangible results in your life.
I was bought this as a present recently: http://www.amazon.com/Metal-Earth-U-S-S-Enterprise-NCC-1701-D/dp/B00NCCJVNU/ref=pd_sbs_21_2?ie=UTF8&dpID=41jbeyD5%2BPL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_&refRID=1QHGYMTYW7P16NM9F288 and it was the most fun I've had in a long time, believe it or not. It really took my mind off things and felt refreshing, and it felt really rewarding finishing it. It's obviously no long term hobby (unless you want to build all of the different models they have!) but it was a lot of fun. Plus it was challenging to do as well, which added to the reward factor.
There is a product out there called Powerline Adaptors that might be able to help you out. That link is just the first one I saw, but they range from 35-90 bucks. They use your home power outlets to transmit internet signals to other rooms. The rooms have to be on the same circuit, I believe. Do some research, but it would essentially allow you to run wired internet to other rooms easily.
Having a wired ps4 makes a literal world of a difference. If I was on wifi, I think I would literally get 1/10th if my actual speed. Last time I check I went from the 180/20 to like 20/2. For the actual remote play, there is an option in the ps4 for the vita to connect directly to the ps4. In some cases that works best, but for me I opt to go through my router to the ps4, and it’s a dream. There’s some boxes to check/uncheck on the vita and ps4, plus a few other network actions like changing device channels and so forth for additional fine tuning. I did tons of research and spent tons of time tweaking it. Once you go through it all and get it just right, it’s just...chefs kiss....perfect. Regardless, id highly recommend getting a Vita anyway if you don’t have one! Loads of great games, a wonderful feeling handheld, and of course, the remote play. If you ever do decide to pick one up, feel free to hit me up if you have any other questions
To play the game, you would need something like this: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B015PYYDMQ/ or http://www.amazon.com/Dell-Inspiron-i7559-12623RED-Generation-GeForce/dp/B015PYZ186/
These 2 would be the bare minimum for the game when it comes to the graphic processor (GTX 960m). They will as far as we know now, handle the game, but most likely at minimum settings.
A lot better would be something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834233094R
But... laptops aren't so good for gaming, not even gaming laptops. Graphics cards produce a lot of heat and laptops don't cope too well with heat. For laptops graphic processors to work well in a laptop, the make them slower and less powerfull then a desktop one. This way the consumer less power and produce less heat. Laptops aren't build for gaming.
For less money you can buy a desktop, the handle heat well and don't need to take power consumation into consideration, since they don't have a battery. Something like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883227604 or this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883102076 both will run circles around the laptop when it comes to gaming. They will run NMS very comfortably. You would of course still need a monitor.
Then there's the PS4.... for half the money, you can get a PS4. It has everything you need to run the game, no worries, no hassle. You don't need to worry about drivers, settings or if your laptop/pc will run the game. Whatever game is released for the PS4, always runs well on the PS4. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16868110152
.
I'm a pc gamer and pc gaming has a number of advantages over PS4 gaming, I've owned a PS4 as well as a gaming PC. Seriously, if all you care about is this game, then do yourself a huge favour and save yourself a lot of money and hassle and get the ps4.
Good luck in your journey. Cheers!
Thanks for the responses everyone. I think I might do what 8_BIT_FOND suggested as another option and go with a [Lenovo Yoga 720 $1339] (https://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-Yoga-15-6-Touch-Screen-Thunderbolt/dp/B072M22XK8) and a [Gigabyte Aorus GTX 1080 Gaming Box $699] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076PZ6PRK/ref=psdc_284822_t1_B073PYMG3G). I don't understand why the gtx1080 box is cheaper than the 1070, but whatever.. Only $100 more for the 1080 than the 1060. I have no idea, but it seems like a good deal : \
I just need to figure out if it will work together. I'll probably be dragging my feet for a month or three. In the meantime, maybe NMS will get the shit optimized out of it and will run adequately enough for me without needing the egpu box (ha ha).
On this front, if you don't need a mic on PS4, I highly recommend these:
https://www.amazon.com/Samson-SR850-Semi-Open-Back-Reference-Headphones/dp/B002LBSEQS/
I use these for mastering, and the soundstage is phenomenal, and for $33? Holy shit! Amazing! And they are semi-open back, so you aren't locked out of your environment (someone in the room can still communicate directly with you, like a hungry pet, or a pet who needs love - always remember to put down your controller and love your pets). But don't worry - the outside world does not intrude, nor does what you are hearing in-game bleed into the outside world (as can happen with true open back headphones).
I have a channel and my setup works for my ps4. First, gonna need a recorder. I use a hauppage hd pvr 2. They've gotten newer ones since. The thing is you will need to bypass hdcp. They have a method that turns off hdcp but i don't know how well it works. The ps4 function only works for 15 minute chunks. For audio i use my phone and mic. I think the hauppauge official program works, but my laptop isn't beefy enough.
For the bypass is use a powered splitter i got off amazon.
This is the splitter i use. Super easy and works fine. Have had 0 issues with it. Hope this helps.
Well the upcoming DLC is worth $30 alone. But there is this collector's edition that has everything including the upcoming DLC for $60.
The Taken King was worth the original $60 price in my opinion (it had an actual story and the April update made the grind negligible!). Year 1 Destiny absolutely did NOT earn it's price.
Year 1 Destiny had a bunch of problems, but you have to hand it to Bungie because they listened to our feedback and improved the game drastically to answer that feedback.
$60 for Y1+Y2+Y3 Destiny is a great deal, considering it is technically a $190 value.
The only problem is you'll have a hard time catching up since the whole community will be focusing on Rise of Iron. But there will be new players you can find.
Amazon has it now, too. I'm tempted to switch my Best Buy Preorder to Amazon, because there's a pre-order bonus. Does anyone know if the BB edition has a pre-order bonus too??
Definitely "Blindsight" by Peter Watts. It's about as hard as sci-fi can get, but it's one of those rare books that can completely blow your mind. It's a First Contact story with a really fascinating take on the evolution of consciousness, with profound implications for human cognition. Watts just released a sequel, "Echopraxia," which is equally great.
I have both a PC and a PS4. Facts are facts like /u/Hello_Hurricane pointed out. The truth is that PC's have more graphics potential and the consoles are not nearly up to what a high end PC rig can handle. While the increase in performance is not always linear or can be cost prohibitive to some, it doesn't mean they don't exist just because you say so.
I've wrangled up some sources to educate you as you seem ignorant on the subject.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask or contribute to the dialogue beyond circlejerking your position on the internet.
PS4 Breakdown, it's a modified HD 7870 in there
PC GPU Hierarchy Chart
Link to Amazon Page for HD 7870, 8th tier of hierarchy
Link to Amazon Page for the GTX 1080, Top tier of hierarchy
EDIT: I didn't even talk about the min system requirements for NMS, I can't believe it! The minimum GPU recommended is a GTX 480 which is one tier below the consoles coming in at 9th tier of gpu available on the market. Consoles barely meet the minimum system requirements for this game.
A temporary pop-up shelter we can deploy in emergencies. It could be a single-use, time-limited force field, or even some kind of pop-tent. Remember this drop shield? A scifi variety of something like this standing tent(Amazon link. I have no affiliation with the product. I don't even know if it is good, but it had the "look" I was going for) would work too.

We can build signal boosters just about anywhere. It wouldn't need to be something much bigger than signal booster to provide shelter.

I don't know if it would make more sense for it to be "Tech" or an expendable item like a defense chit. I leave that to people knowledgeable about making games.

For gameplay balance, it should probably only protect against weather hazards and not sentinels or animals (though it might make sense to have it prevent animals from going aggro on you).

I know the response to this is: "use the terrain manipulator to make a shelter", but that isn't always desirable, and having another option can be nice. Just a thought.
Edit 1: removed repeated word
Edit 2: Amazon link disclaimer
That joystick has been out for a while now, it's now got blue accents instead of silver to retrofit the "PS4" vibe but it's been available for PC and PS3 for quite sometime (years).
https://www.amazon.com/Thrustmaster-T-Flight-Hotas-Flight-Playstation-3/dp/B001CXYMFS?ie=UTF8&*Version*=1&*entries*=0
I prefer mine though, it has much better feel in the hand and not as bulky.
My stick: https://www.amazon.com/Mad-Catz-F-L-Y-5-Stick-PC/dp/B001EYU1VO/ref=sr_1_sc_2?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1464781439&sr=1-2-spell&keywords=mad+katz+sky+5
These sticks work great in other games too flight sims, Battlefield Series, Arma 3 etc...
Buy it second hand. I can buy it for about £20 locally at the moment. It keeps you hooked, yes, as long as you let yourself enjoy it and not enter into the game with a preconceived notion of playing it with a critical eye. Just enjoy the moment to moment gameplay. I'd suggest Survival right off the bat, if you have patience and understand something that seems impossible becomes second nature after a while. And remember, NMS has had several patches and two huge updates to flesh it out. With more coming in the not too distant future, it's a game to own in my opinion.

Sean's favorite book is Dune and this is HG's list of favorites from the community. My favorites are the Hyperion Cantos and pretty much anything by Asimov, Heinlein, and Bradbury.
>Rating, we're still not sure, that will infuence the sales also. Minecraft is 7, so parents have no problem buying it for their kids.
I'm pretty sure I've seen the NMS PEGI rating of 7 on Amazon or elsewhere, despite the ESRB rating still pending.
>Yes, it will appeal to a certain group of players that will play it for many years to come, but not to such a broad audience.
Agreed.
>It will be as many other games..... it will be in the picture for a moment and then slowly fade away.... unless HG has a secret plan, but I somewhat doubt that.... unless the miraculously learn to interact with the NMS community all of a sudden.
Interacting with the community is exactly what Sean has said in multiple recent interviews, in order to help determine what they should work on next for the game. I think the only post release support that could cause the game to be anywhere near as big as Minecraft would be mods though.
I would suggest contacting [PSN Support ] (https://scea.secure.force.com/LiveChatRequest/?lang=en_US) They have a Live Chat.
Beyond that, I'm not sure. I have physical disc pre-ordered. However if you find an answer, can you post back? I've been considering cancelling my pre-order on physical disc and doing it via PSN so that I can have it pre-loaded and ready to go at midnight :)
Edit: Added the following:
Or another option is to order a download code via [Amazon] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ZQB28XK/ref=s9_cartx_gw_g63_i1_r?ie=UTF8&fpl=fresh&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=desktop-1&pf_rd_r=CRJNSGCQPERG3HJYFZJ3&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=6aad23bd-3035-4a40-b691-0eefb1a18396&pf_rd_i=desktop).
Not sure if it supports Pre-Load though.
I think there are more options than people assume. It isn't "Delayed" or "Not Delayed," but it could be production issues for the PS4 physical version, which would require Sony to do SOMETHING since Steam would have a lock on the their date, and wouldn't be inclined to changing it, it could be that there's just some fuckery with Gamestop, and Sony/HG has no idea where it's coming from, and wants to work that out before issuing anything, or it's not delayed at all, and they just want to enjoy the huge pop in news they got for a few days, and they'll clear it all up (one way or another) come Monday.
Since EVERY retailer (Amazon... Best Buy... Steam...)but Gamestop hasn't had this information, and every retailer including Gamestop still has it as June 21st, there's really no reason to address these rumors.
It's up on amazon, just bought my copy :)
http://www.amazon.com/No-Mans-Sky-Limited-PlayStation-4/dp/B01CINIAKS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1457036793&sr=8-2&keywords=limited+edition+no+mans+sky
and it's only $63 with Prime!!!!!
Sell your laptop (You should get at least 400 bucks for it).
And buy one of these two: Dell Inspiron i7559-763BLK (Core i5, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, NVIDIA GeForce GTX960M) .
Dell Inspiron i7559-12623RED (6th Generation Intel Core i5, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD + 8 GB SSD).
They both pack a decent processor and a 960m which is 40% faster than the gpu in the minimum announced spec, and best thing is they are under 800 so I suppose you can afford.
The difference between both models is storage, one packs a 256GB SSD the other a 1 TB HDD, so if you need lots of storage get the HDD one, else get the SSD one since it is faster.
Is there any speculation that the LE will eventually make its way to Amazon? I'd prefer to preorder there over Gamestop or Best Buy.
Edit: Amazon pre-order for the Limited Edition is finally up.

I just got a used PS4 copy off Amazon for $12. They have some auto discount holiday code applying. Originally $16. I think it's a good time to get it (at least used). Can't be that bad I'm mad at losing $12. https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00ZQB28XK/ref=dp_olp_all_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=all

Just a heads up everyone: Amazon.com restocked today and for some reason they let you buy it even if you live in Canada. It will ship internationally.
Total price is like 2 bucks less than Gamestop.com, but we all know that unlike them, you won't get any surprise UPS import fees at your door.
