> I can't even remember what made zombies more popular than cat videos.

The Walking Dead pushed them over the top, but the initial groundswell came from The Zombie Survival Guide (which is actually a pretty fun, humorous read.)

The best historical plague novel I can think of is actually about the cholera outbreak in England a few hundred years ago (c. 1830). It's called The Ghost Map, written by Stephen Johnson, and details the first outbreak fought and visualized with modern mathematical methods. Being a total stats nerd, it's one of my favorite nonfiction books and really makes you wonder how many other mysteries could be solved with the right combination of graphing and analysis.

Anyway, the two real life protagonists are perfect for a comedy/action movie; a priest with a giant beard who habitually drank water with whiskey in it and a wacky scientist who discovered one of the first anesthetics and who huffed said anesthetic for fun.

You mean I could hold one of my favorite stories in my own two hands? Count me in.

I'd recommend your work a billion times over if I could, you've always been a favorite author of mine and pretty much the definition of underrated

1.) Recite your dialogue in the mirror. If it feels weird, it probably is. I believe /u/Grindhorse told me this a long time ago. I could be wrong, though.

2.) Don't try to be Tarantino.

3.) People watch. Eavesdrop. Replicate what you hear.

EDIT:

Robert McKee has a great book on writing dialogue if you're willing to read about it. I'm not a big fan of being told how to do something one way because I feel like that's how you end up in the state of entertainment we're currently in. On the other side of the coin, it's a great foundation for you to start at and expand upon. Just my two cents.

There is a list of authors with Amazon pages on the NoSleep authors' non-nosleep pages.

If it needs to be updated, then just let /u/ALooc know.

Also, I was just looking at buying a bunch of these to support the nosleep community. I know the following authors have pages as well (links go to amazon, not their reddit profiles):
/u/bloodworthOOC
/u/1000Vultures
/u/theworldisgrim
/u/AsForClass
/u/The_Dalek_Emperor

Anybody wanna sign a copy for me? :)

Thank you for supporting my work and reading my stories :)

BRANDON BOONE. I listen to Book of Winter quite often when I'm writing.

As for a theme song...definitely not "The Animal" by Disturbed. Like, DEFINITELY not. Hah hah. That would imply that I'm a werewolf, and we all know I'm definitely not a werewolf. No. Probably something more like Momentary.

Sealed In by Jacqueline Druga was a pretty good one IMO. It's about a hybrid virus known as Ebolapox breaking out in the midwest. Scary thing is that it's an actual experiment from during the cold war.

Also, check out Isolation Ward by Joshua Spanogle. This one isn't about a big scale breakout, but more of the CDC preventing one. Still, it's one of my favorite medical thrillers (and a big inspiration for my writing); so I would definitely suggest it.

Psst.

When you're sharing a book link, make sure to cut it off after the ASIN or dp number like this: https://www.amazon.com/Last-Tower-Elias-Witherow/dp/1949759040

Everything after that is tracking info. If Amazon ever links you with purchases, they'll often delete any reviews from them because they think they're biased.

Also congrats!

Thanks, I appreciate that! Currently, the only place that specific story is available is in my book found here

And one of my personal favorites is probably my story "What I Saw Beneath the Riptide" which can be found on NoSleep

Publishing a book of short stories. I'm hoping my next achievement will be a full fledged fantasy novel, but we'll see! Fingers crossed (:

u/PoloniumPoisoning gave a lovely shoutout to "13 Days of Christmas" (we also both wrote about the same universe and I promise that we're different people).

I just wanted to mention that it's now a 26-author book on Amazon!

I had 365 Short Horror Stories many years ago and I loved it. I've been contemplating buying it again. Lots of different authors, so it makes for good variety. Fashion Victim (yes, it's an Angelfire site! Like I said this was MANY years ago) is the one I remember most of all. Cheesy, maybe that's why I remember it. There were others that were much better.
