For your specific situation, 500mcg of melatonin and 400mg of magnesium glycinate should fix you right up. Melatonin is extremely safe and nontoxic. Same with magnesium (to a far lesser extant than melatonin, though).

A note on melatonin dosages: Less is more. It is frequently sold in 5-20mg pills. This is way way way too much for most people^[1].

As far as taking other things like St. John's Wort, kava, etc: Do not start out with these. You are a young person. There are many other things to try before these things. If the magnesium and melatonin don't work for you, feel free to PM me, and I'll do my best to give advice however I can.

Here are some links to brands of melatonin and magnesium that I would recommend:

Pure Encapsulations - Melatonin 0.5mg - 60 capsules for $9.30: this is the one I would most recommend in terms of quality, and the price happens to be pretty reasonable. If it's too much, let me know.

Pure Encapsulations - Magnesium (Glycinate) - 90 capsules (120mg each) for $19.50: Once again, this is ideal but if it's too much let me know. Here is a cheaper option that will work.

Best of luck to you my friend. I have had sleep problems before, and I know all too well that they will fuck your life up. This is an important issue to me, so I'm quite serious about offering my help. Feel free to PM me. Hope this helps.

I have been using this brand: https://www.amazon.com/NOW-Magtein-90-Veg-Capsules/dp/B00JEZQAFG

I use it as it says. 1 capsule at noon and then 2 before bed. I think thats about 2g if the nutritional label is correct.

At first it felt really good, super focused, but now the effect is less noticeable. Nevertheless I prefer to not increase that dosage and simply continue with it for supplementation purposes.

One thing to say its that because I researched about this type of magnesium I now eat more salads and magnesium rich foods. Ha now I feel I'm drugging myself with salads.

Benefits? Super focus, I think I respond easier to questions, take decisions faster.

> I will be contacting the Leeds police department in the UK to discuss it with them. UK libel and defamation laws are a lot more strict, and him using his real personal Facebook page makes it pretty easy to link.

/u/MisterYouAreSoDumb you know i love you (and that sexy pork pie hat) and you know exactly who i am in RL but please think twice on this.

Few reasons:

  1. The UK has clamped down on "libel tourism" making it much harder for foreign nationals to bring cases in the UK.

  2. Facebook's servers are likely in the U.S so you get into a jurisdiction clusterfuck where you would have to get UK police to act against Facebooks EU office (which is probably in Ireland anyhow due to tax laws) only to be told it's hosted on a U.S server and therefore first ammendment.

  3. Police really in the UK really don't act on this sort of thing unless they have to and computer based cases are backlogged. Even then Crown Prosecution Services are likely to kick it out as "not in the public's interest. I have a couple of friends in two different police forces and will run it by them but likely you will be given a run a round and then told "nah"

  4. PBS (possibly) makes your products illegal. If you were a licensed pharma company then it might be different. Combine with 2 & 3 and CPS are almost certain to reject any criminal case the police put forward.

  5. You can still go civil in the UK but you would need to prove it effected the business.

  6. Streisand Effect.

  7. He said he "felt like" in the UK even under criminal libel this is not strong enough. A bit like ii could post to Red Bull and say it felt like my heart was about to explode.

Honestly the guy and his stack are a moron. You would be better off complaining to MHRA for an unlicensed medical product as thier Amazon page is making medical claims:

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Brainpower-Concentration-Scientifically-Multivitamin-Entrepreneurs/dp/B01ET2DDAI

    Specifically:

    "
    What are the effects?

    •Enhanced memory and information retention
    •Increased alertness and concentration levels
•Boosted energy levels and improved mood "

Also the Advertising Stands Agency (False advertising). Also complain to Amazon UK for the same reason as they pull stuff in a heartbeat and as they are shipping from Prime they have sent a load to Amazon's warehouse. So they will be out $$$ when blocked.

They fly under PBS (Just) but you can also sic local health inspectors on them although it looks like it might be something subcontracted.

The Amazon page also misspells ingrediants and if you tip Amazon off both to the product and them fake reviewing you they will likely look at there feedback which is also liikely faked. Amazon HATE that and will permaban people for much less. MHRA will investigate false claims, they love going after supplement companies.

Hope you can see where i'm coming from here, not trying to be critical of you but i think you have a better course of action then libel.

I bet the real breakthroughs happen using antibiotics and repopulating with more desirable populations from your own biome.

We're pretty far from a predictive model of what does what even among identical twin there is huge microbiome variation.

This is the most moving paper so far showing that lactobacillus GG(also called L. rhamnosus) profoundly effects mood via the vagus nerve.

"these findings highlight the important role of bacteria in the bidirectional communication of the gut-brain axis and suggest that certain organisms may prove to be useful therapeutic adjuncts in stress-related disorders such as anxiety and depression."

I think crowd funding is doing the heavy lifting as industry can't find the profit motives yet. These guys haven't shipped yet. There should be a lot more data soon.

Supplements are spendy. I want to learn how to safely culture my own. Then barring contamination one purchase lasts indefinitely. Anti-depressant pickles? Shiny Happy Go-gurt?

This is the brand of K2 I take. Good high dose.

https://www.amazon.com/Relentless-Improvement-Naturally-Derived-No-Fillers-Science-Based/dp/B00GZVM092

If money is no object, the Thorne drops are considered the best in terms of bioavailability:

https://www.amazon.com/Thorne-Research-Vitamin-Liquid-drop/dp/B000FGWDTK

This is MK4, which is the K2 form that's been studied the most in terms of increasing bone density. MK4 doesn't stay in the blood for very long though - for that, you need MK7. It stays in the blood for much longer, but the studies haven't yet been done to determine whether it's as good as MK4 for building bone density (the reason why I take K2). If your primary need for K2 is for improving sleep, maybe MK7 might be better? I also take MK7 sometimes, the best one I've found is this one:

https://www.amazon.com/absorption-clinically-Formulated-Certified-Veggie-Softgels/dp/B00JGCPAYY

Bear in mind that you need to take K2 with a fat source to maximize availability - taking it without fat is a total waste. The K7 brand above includes coconut oil in the capsule for this reason, but I'm not sure it's enough. I always take K2 with a nice big spoonful of hemp oil.

It's also worth pointing out that K2 MK4 has been shown to increase testosterone levels, which may be a bonus or a deal killer depending on your current levels.

How long have you been taking cold showers and what benefits did you notice?

Been 2-3 months. It makes me feel like a coffee in the morning and wakes me up. When it's cold enough, your body releases dopamine. It also helps your skin qualität.

What taste would you compare to that smoothie?

haha I don't think there's any taste that can be compared. It's just green and if you like green you can almost say that it looks delicious haha After some time you get used to it and meanwhile it doesn't bother me any more...I would almost say it's tasty

Where do you get your stuff, especially the supplements and the tea?

from different sources. What do you mean exactly? I get the tea from them:

https://www.sunday.de/

What's your occupation?

I have my own IT company. We sell internet lines and telephone connections.

Aby garlic extract and not pure garlic?

I take this one https://www.amazon.de/Wakunaga-Knoblauch-Extrakt-Strength-Reserve-Kapseln/dp/B005W41JI6/ref=sr_1_8?__mk_de_DE=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&keywords=kyolic&qid=1571989981&sr=8-8

That's why you have to buy one of these suckers

It's pretty easy to make phytosomes actually. Just liquify some lecithin (equal amount to the amount of substance you're trying to prepare) by letting it sit in warm water than blending it. Add your desired substance to the mixture, then pour some of the solution (I think doing small amounts at a time works better than doing the whole thing at once) into the ultrasonic cleaner, turn it on and stir it as it is running.

Bam! You have your own phytosome complexes :)

From my understanding, PPI´s in the longterm sounds like a real bad idea. Basically you are starving yourself because of the lack of stomach acid, absorption of minerals and amino acid is impaired

I don´t have heartburn so i can´t tell from my experience but it seems like heartburn is a symptom of having not enough stomach acid and not too much, sounds counterintuitive but i heard that form lot of sources

There is a supplement called Betaine HCL which provides hydrochloric acid to the stomach, seems to help for heartburn and other hypochlorhydria symptoms

This book sound interesting, check out the reviews

No formal education but I have some friends in the field and I've been studying some of their textbooks and talking to them about it a lot lately. Molecular Neuropharmacology is a great book, not an easy read, but full of information. NMDA antagonists like magnesium are also supposed to help prevent neurotoxicity from Ca influx, many people take them for tolerance prevention:

After reading the very excellent Edge Effect, I've been taking his recommended dopamine enhancement stack twice a day and it makes such a profound difference on my productivity! I only drink green tea no as well so I get the caffeine kick but also enjoy the effects of the l-theanine as well.

I've slightly adjusted mine but it consists of:
L-Tyrosine - 500 mg
L-Phenylalanine - 500 mg
L-Methionine - 500 mg
Vitamin B50 (with Rhodiola)
Vitamin C - 500 mg

For reference, I'm a (game) coder.

There are a few cheap electrolyte mix options out there that you could look into, I've tried this one and liked it, tasted pleasant. It doesn't have any sodium so you may want to grab some sodium bicarbonate to throw in.

Nuun isn't terrible either, lesser amounts of everything but has some sodium, couple of the flavors are pretty good.

As mentioned taurine helps, it's also dirt cheap at bulk powder sites.

Lastly, watch how much you take at once and the speed with which you drink it. Keep the doses sane and you'll be fine.

I found these to be a much cheaper version, better design than the dorky/bulky construction ones. A bit too good to be driving with. A good blue/green blocker will block all the light, so you won't see a green signal. That's your street test. A lot of glasses out there don't do what they say (but might be useful for driving at night).

F.lux is really good, though Iristech blocks more of the the spectrum that ought to be. However, f.lux is ineed the free one, and not bad in and of itself.

"Neurology" is a medical discipline, i.e. a department you would find in a hospital, so that would not be appropriate for your case. "Neuroscience", on the other hand, is the name of the scientific study, which is what you should look into, but overall that is too broad of a field.

For what you're trying to learn, I'd just start directly diving into neuropharmacology. Any good resource should give you enough of an overview before things get more complicated; perhaps having a review of high school science might be good, but not necessary.

Here's a recommendation for a good reference textbook: https://www.amazon.com/Molecular-Neuropharmacology-Foundation-Clinical-Neuroscience/dp/0071481273

u/norepinephrinex · 2 pointsr/Nootropics

I always liked the idea of taking lecithin for the full spectrum of phospholipids, but disappointingly, didn't find it gave me the benefits that people report with cholinergics and PS. On the other hand, even standard doses of CDP seem to bring on a rapid, temporary depression.

Fortunately, I've had luck with this guy (http://www.amazon.com/Doctors-Best-Enhancers-Vegetable-Capsules/dp/B00309ZDHS). Seems to clear my head in the morning and stacks well with DHA+uridine. Those, along with tyrosine, caffeine and theanine form a pretty reliable base stack IMO.

u/Debonaire_Death · 1 pointr/Nootropics

Indeed. Chloline deficiency can cause headaches.

I took these when I was on SEMAX and never once suffered a headache. I think it's a great product. The GPC gives me the cholinergic boost I need and meanwhile the phosphatidylserine keeps cortisol levels from getting out of hand.

I also enjoyed adding ALCAR and B12 to my diet, but I hadn't thought about how those may have helped. ALCAR for sure would provide you with a good supply of acetic acid for the acetylation process.

I love ginseng but I've only dealt with the little bottles from the Asian Market that are the extracts and then the pellets which are made in a tea. I've also bought some panax ginseng root (dried) before and just chewed on pieces of it. These methods have been pretty decent. So that leads me to the next level in the ginseng game, and is the more expensive ginseng stuff worth it? There are some for $50-200$+ on Amazon and I'm currently looking at one that is just under $100 https://www.amazon.com/Cheong-Kwan-Jang-Ginseng-Extract/dp/B06Y1Z7FXT/ref=sr_1_21_s_it?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1540866651&sr=1-21&keywords=ginseng+extract

but seems to be a lot of extract. Just wondering how much more these more expensive ones are compared to the cheaper ones and if they are worth it.

u/BatcaveBruceWayne · 1 pointr/Nootropics

This is the only brand I ever experienced substantial positive effects:

https://www.amazon.com/AshwaTraxTM-Bio-Enhanced-KSM-66-Ashwagandha-Extract/dp/B01N5HNYMN/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1549040580&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=ashwatrax&psc=1

They add a couple other things to it which help as well. I would take 2 capsules in morning and night. I noticed I felt very balanced mood/stress wise. Nothing earth shattering.

u/bob1000 · 2 pointsr/Nootropics

I'm starting out as well.

From what I read in the FAQs, this is what I have found:

  • ~1600mg of Piracetam
  • ~ Lecithin 2 pills
  • I occasionally also do Nature's Bounty Fish Oil as well

Why Lecithin instead of Choline? Mainly because it has other components instead of just Choline, that has a synergistic effect with Choline.

What I have observed so far:

I do notice a difference in mental clarity, there are moments where everything becomes very clear. I've also noticed that I have occasionally been having very vivid dreams. However, I have only been on it for a few days and still understanding its effects.

Additionally, I have heard that Aniracetam is a much more potent alternative to Piracetam, but I will do some more testing with Piracetam before I shift gears.

    http://www.reddit.com/help/faqs/nootropics#HowmuchaniracetamshouldItake

    http://www.reddit.com/help/faqs/nootropics#HowmuchpiracetamshouldItake

Edit: Please watch out for the headaches, I've noticed that it happens when I don't have move around too much. Just do a little bit of exercise to get the blood flowing and an Advil helps.

My man asking the important questions. Here are the exact brands I take. And yes astaxanthin was taken the entire time as well. I was trying to go for a nice tan pastel coloring, I didn't want to just turn yellow, orange, or pink. Cost to do this is only like $12 per month or something. If you do it, post your results!

1x astaxanthin with breakfast

1x carotene with each meal - breakfast, lunch, dinner.

I do keto and love it.

If you're suffering from the adjustment period you need to up your electrolytes. I suggest this: http://www.amazon.com/EMERGEN-C-ELECTRO-MIX-Lemon-Lime-4-2/dp/B002HWRY5S/ it's a powder you can mix into any liquid and get your daily fix. If you need something now go to the grocery store and pick up some salt-substitutes, those have almost 1,000mg of potassium in 1/5 a teaspoon which is way more than you'll find in any supplement.

Also remember that low carb isn't just about low carb, it's also about increased fat intake. Pecans, almonds, and avacados always give me a nice boost. I used to read about people dipping their bacon in mayo in order to up their fats and thought they were insane, but when my doctor recommended dipping bacon in guacamole and explained why it all made much more sense.

As far as nootropic-like effects I need a lot less sleep, no morning sluggishness, lots of energy, and less symptoms of ADD. This is all anecdotal of course but if you look at /r/keto and /r/paleo you'll see many feel these benefits as well.

u/goldstartup · 3 pointsr/Nootropics

This product strikes me as desperate. It's like a GoogleScholar search cobbled into a dubious product. (3kmg in 2 caps? No way.)

Amazon sales page claims: "The UK's #1 NEW BEST, STRONGEST AND MOST TRUSTED Nootropic Supplement for FOCUS, MEMORY AND CONCENTRATION." mmmmyeah, that's believable.

The emails and threats are pathetic, and that's great that you documented them. They also claim GMP- yeah, that's believable too.

u/zeroisinfinity · 4 pointsr/Nootropics

A book I read called The Edge Effect outlines this, it talks about 4 neurotransmitters: dopamine, acetylcholine, GABA, and serotonin. The TLDR of it is just eat healthy, and particularly a good amount of protein as your body breaks it down into amino acids, many of which are precursors to neurotransmitters. Here's a link which details what a number of aminos do: http://www.getbig.com/articles/protein.htm

and here's the book if you're interested: http://www.amazon.com/Edge-Effect-Longevity-Balanced-Advantage/dp/1402722478/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1422131157&sr=8-1&keywords=edge+effect
