This is pretty helpful and I use it in acute and inpatient settings.
(But to be honest, it was a lot cheaper when I got it a few years ago.)
Edit: autocorrect correction and I can't spell.

I'm a little confused. The OTs at school have recommended something, so doesn't he have access to them? Are they not interested in treating him further? They also might be able to direct you to a place you an get fat pencils. Also, he is borderline for what?

If you can't find thicker pencils, you can probably get thick pencil grips to put on the pencils, which will do essentially the same thing.

There are also other kinds of pencils he might be able to use, like this one.

Also, is he taking notes verbatim? At 16 he may not be taking effective notes yet. If he can develop shorthand well enough, he will not have to take notes as quickly and should have an easier time reading them afterward.

It might also be worth seeing what the school's policy is on electronics for taking notes. This might be especially viable if you can get him an IEP. Some schools also have programs that allow another student to physically take the notes.

This book is awesome! Just do the sample questions over and over. The answer guide explains the right answer. It’s too hard to focus on any one thing and go back and study textbooks.

I am about to go into my level 2s as an OT student and this is the top of my wish list! WhiteCoat makes this awesome clipboard for PTs. Depending on her clinical areas, she would be able to use it as a clipboard and it folds to show charts of assessment areas.

Not sure how well this would work on a face, but they make tons of razor extenders to aid women with shaving legs. This one I know is adjustable in length and angle, so I think it's probably one of the better options for shaving a face.

Here is a link for it by the way. I think the other colors might look better.

Can they manage a grip like this?

This is close to how a mandolin player might hold a pick.

You could possibly build up the gripped edge with foam to make something more substantial to squeeze.

If that doesn't work, another possibility might be fingerpicking picks that fit over fingers that could be something else to try. They stay on your finger without having to always grip them.

What about a kit with nuts and bolts to thread, some screws and a screw driver to use, or like a small kit that you can assemble and disassemble. Like at some hardware stores they sell the diy bird house kits. Maybe if you can make one to assemble and take apart with pre-drilled holes and nuts and bolts. Or from a craft store- remember those kits that you put the beads on in a pattern- there’s like a plastic thing with little spikes for each bead- then you iron it and it makes a coaster. There’s also those weaving things that you make pot holders out of. I’ll post a couple links.
