For a more... detailed guide of how you want to get things set up, here's what you need to know:

Cable Modem - Must support DOCSIS 3.1. From what I can tell, anything rated for DOCSIS 3.1 must support enough channels for gigabit, but if you want to be doubly sure, backwards compatibility with DOCSIS 3.0 at 32x8 (True of every DOCSIS 3.1 modem I can find on the market) will guarantee you get there. Note that DOCSIS 3.0 at 32x8 does not actually get you gigabit on Cox. It has to be DOCSIS 3.1.

Router - Not including the wireless portion, your router must have gigabit WAN and LAN ports. Just about any router with wireless AC, and even most with wireless N, is likely to have these, but not all routers need have wireless connections.

Switches, MoCA, Powerline Adaptors, etc. - Must all support Gigabit Ethernet, and for alternate methods (e.g. MoCA, Powerline) must also be rated for at least Gigabit speeds... preferably higher, because rated speeds are rarely achieved. Additionally, if you connect any devices that run at less than gigabit ethernet, on most cheap home network switches every device connected will be forced to run at fast ethernet speeds. You can fix this by having such devices connect, say, wirelessly, or only plugging them directly into an appropriate switch. Rather than playing the guessing game with cheap switches and ending up disappointed, it might be worth going for a managed switch, which should almost assuredly support different negotiated rates on different ports. Your router may also support this. Common devices that only run at fast-ethernet speeds and can therefore slow your network way down include Smart TV's, Wired Chromecast / FireTV connections, Steam Links, and other older or cheaper devices.

Wi-Fi - Current Wifi standards mean that your odds of actually getting Gigabit speeds on your individual devices is effectively nil. If your device, like most devices, has only one antenna, your theoretical maximum speed under wireless AC is 433Mbit/s, and in most cases, you'll get less than half of that. Your wireless access point, meanwhile, likely has multiple antenna and can support a lot of devices at high speeds, meaning that it can do gigabit collectively between all your devices. Wi-Fi 6, (a.k.a. Wireless AX), meanwhile, will provide a reasonable possibility of support, but you'll have to replace both your access point and all of your devices. Fun fact: the number after AC (for instance, the AC1900 Router in the OP) lists the theoretical maximum if all built in channels were at max load. Your AC1600+'s should be able to fill up your gigabit link fairly nicely if you have enough devices. The only reason to consider higher numbers is that they typically come with higher quality internals, which can lead to closer-to-theoretical speeds and longer range, but if you're going for more than AC1900, it's really time to consider dedicated access points, rather than wi-fi built into the router.

> If equal rights is a motivating factor for you, then you really only have one choice and that is to vote Democrat.

Equal rights to me means the rights of everyone, not just the people I agree with. Democrats tend to be a little too selective about which groups deserve which rights IMO. Like this, but the umbrella also represents other Constitutional rights. Republicans aren't better, they just favor other groups. My view is that it should cover everyone equally, but that feels like a minority opinion.

> Also, could you explain what frightening ideas the Democrats have said they would do if they have power?

Off the top of my head: stuffing the SCOTUS, breaking up Democratic strongholds into multiple states, allocating more Senators to states with large populations (or eliminating the Senate altogether), eliminating the Electoral College, etc. In fact, here's a book, written in earnest by a liberal Democrat, that offers a breadbasket of ideas many in the party are seriously considering for after they win back Congress and the White House.

I'm not going to quibble over the merits of these ideas. What's frightening to me is the serious consideration of proposals intended to create a "lasting" (read: permanent) majority. While I understand the appeal from an emotional standpoint, I think history is rife with examples warning against this type of arrangement.

Why? For one, it seems like the surest way to bring one of the most ambitious social experiments in history to a disappointing conclusion. Broadly, a one-party state that controls the Legislative, Executive AND Judicial branches is an oligarchy. What is the point in having a Bill of Rights if the court is packed with justices who will arbitrarily reinterpret those rights to suit the whims and political expediency of Congressional leaders? It gives the illusion of legitimacy, but really it's a democracy in the same way North Korea is a democracy.

To circle back to what I said earlier about equal rights, this concept is terrifying to me personally because a group with a tenuous relationship to freedom and equal rights is openly talking about how they can rig the system to grant themselves the ultimate say in the matter. I 100% do not trust them with that kind of power.

To be clear: I'm not saying "IF TEH DUMBOCRAPS WIN, THE US WILL TRYANNY AND WAR IN TEH STREETZ!!" What I am saying is that I am hesitant to vote for people who fantasize about how they could take over and rule over me the rest of my life. I don't want to enable Trump any more than I want to enable that agenda. I don't trust either party with my life, safety, liberty, economic security, etc. Hence why I'm conflicted.

15 is really young. If you're relatively presentable, you might want to try Hyvee.

That said, it looks like from your profile that you have an interest in math and coding.

If this is something you're naturally skilled at, you shouldn't be working in fast food. You should be ignoring temporary financial gains to put yourself in the best place possible for college and technical internships.

The primary way to do that is to double down on your academics. At 15, you'll probably be going into your sophomore year? Don't accept any grade but an A from here on out. There's just no reason for it. You're obviously not retarded and school is easy.

Grab an ACT/SAT prep book. Take every practice test you can find until you get your scores into the absolute highest percentile you're able to.

If available, join a cyber academy, coding, math or robotics club at your school.

Go to things like this:

http://siliconprairienews.com/2014/08/meca-challenge-2014-preview/

Read books like these:

http://www.amazon.com/The-Pragmatic-Programmer-Journeyman-Master/dp/020161622X
http://www.amazon.com/Clean-Code-Handbook-Software-Craftsmanship/dp/0132350882

You'll lose a few thousand dollars over the next few years from working a shit job but you'll also be able to get a technical internship as soon as you turn 18 making double/triple minimum wage, while you gain proficiency in a relevant field.

You'll also go from $Texas in student loan debt to a free ride, saving you 30,000 to 100,000+ depending on what school you can get into on scholarship.

You may be 15 but I have to disagree with anyone else that you're only worth minimum wage. Everyone has skills they can work on and if you really want to help your family in the long term, work on what will make you successful.

If you have any questions regarding any of this, PM me.

Although I used to have a security system, we took it out. Here's what I suggest:

Cox homelife is not so much a security firm as it is providing interconnected devices then attaching an alert to them. You could easily build your own security system and set it up to alert you when it's triggered. I would go with SEi, ADT, etc if you want a full blown system.

Personally, I would just set up some [IP Cameras] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00K9632H8/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_1?pf_rd_p=1944687462&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B007RFFTUW&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=0PW956PP2DDH446ZCSYB) and slap a fake security sticker on the Windows.

Edit: See [here] (https://www.ubnt.com/mfi/mport/) for some more secuity products. Personally, I like Ubiquiti because they are reputable and most of their equipment is set up via PoE. Easy to install and easy to use. If I had the $ I would totally install a system myself and have it alert me of an intrusion. I'm more concerned on having footage of what the perp took, and what he looked like as well as seeing how he got around (plate #) instead of having the police called and show up after the perp is gone.

As others mentioned videos are great. Wizards has some good resources. https://dnd.wizards.com/articles/features/basicrules For campaigns to start with, I really liked the one in the starter kit https://www.amazon.com/Dungeons-Dragons-Starter-Wizards-Team/dp/0786965592/ They also released https://www.amazon.com/Dungeons-Dragons-Essentials-Kit-Boxed/dp/0786966831/ which I haven't played through the campaign yet but it looks promising. There are also tons of materials for purchase and some for free on the Dungeons Masters Guild site https://www.dmsguild.com/
Any questions, feel free to ask in this thread or dm, otherwise r/dnd may be a better subreddit to answer.

Be careful not so much for the snow while driving, but the ice. Especially the ice that forms at intersections -after- the snow plows have come through. Seems like they put a Zamboni like shine to the intersections. AWD and ABS won't really help you to stop. So approach intersections slowly.

About your AWD. I don't think you'll need true "snow tires", but check that you have all-season tires.

If heavy snow is forecast, top off your gasoline and your cell phone battery. Kinda like the folks saying to bring extra gloves and such in your car, wouldn't hurt to get a small portable USB charger, like one of these https://www.amazon.com/Anker-PowerCore-Ultra-Compact-High-Speed-Technology/dp/B01CU1EC6Y
[Not an endorsement. Just that or something like that]

If you already make fried chicken at home, frying chicken with popular Indonesian spices is probably a very easy introduction to some Indonesian flavors.

Putting spices together from scratch is best, but premixed spice packets are OK. Especially when you don’t have access to spices like galangal. (And if you make it from scratch, don’t use Turkish bay leaves. If you don’t have Indonesian bay leaves, omit the leaves.)

(Same with dishes like rendang. There are premixed spice packets for rendang, and they’re totally fine, but I’m never impressed.)

If you like spice, I highly recommend going out of your way to make sambal (spicy chili paste) to go with your meal. There is no one way to make sambal, so if you’re unimpressed with the one you make, use a different recipe next time, and experiment with different varieties.

I'm going on Dash #10 or 11, having done at least one a year since 2009 and sometimes two since Ohio was hosting multiple events. I like them, they're fun, and it has gotten to the point where my non-running friends will join me for this race just because of the environment. It's a 5k* where you're not gonna kill yourself on any obstacle and where you're not forced to run, run, RUN. Plus the afterparty is kinda cool too.

As greenVneck said below, it's more of a social event and I don't mean that in a bad way. Trails and obstacles tend to bottleneck (which tends to happen at most obstacle runs in general) so you end up talking to people along the way, something you typically don't do in your 5ks/10ks/etc.

They had a shower area that was sponsored last year when I did my Dash in Pocono. Hopefully they continue that, since it's definitely a better option than jumping back into a pond to get clean. I think this year we're doing 5 gallon solar showers and buying a shower tent. A group had one last year and they said it's the first thing they pack when they're heading out for a Warrior Dash, Spartan Race, or a Mudder. It's still sitting in my Amazon cart from last year. I probably should buy it sometime before my next Dash in August. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AT3T0GC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Edit: bonus points for me. I turn mid 40s in 40 days.

I got this! It's fairly cheap, the onboard speakers work pretty great, and the ability to digitize your albums is great.

I'm also in Bellevue and we cut the cord a little over a year ago. I started with a Mohu Leaf Ultimate available from NFM if you want to get it locally. It worked pretty well, though where we are we have a lot of trees and I got some interference on Channel 6.1.

This fall, I stuck a Winegard MS-2002 on my roof. The issues with 6.1 went away, and we now get better PBS coverage, including a lot more Iowa stations.

I have the Mohu on our TV in the basement and it works pretty well down there. We don't watch it as much as the TV upstairs, but I'm happy with the basement performance. I have the antenna pinned to a wall, not in a window, and it's still working well.

u/TLGJames · 3 pointsr/Omaha

Well those work too, but they make a ton of indoor ones that work quite well.

http://smile.amazon.com/Mohu-Leaf-Paper-Thin-Indoor-Antenna/dp/B00EWEHEL8/ref=zg_bs_172665_1

Just something like that.

You can use a site like

http://antennaweb.org to see what kind of channels you can pick up where you live. Though I live in an apartment on the bottom floor, so I can only literally get fox/CW in one of the rooms, so you have to consider your surroundings.

u/mancusod · 2 pointsr/Omaha

I don't, but I've fixed air mattresses with something like this before and it's worked like a charm. If I had to guess they'd have this at walmart/mangleson's/target.

u/omapuppet · 2 pointsr/Omaha

I have a Buffalo WZR-300HP which is connected to the cable modem at one side of the top floor of the house, and then some no-name $15 router at the other end of the house, connected by ethernet cable. Also I had to upgrade the cable modem last year to get the higher speed downloads.

No special setup to join the LANs, devices connected to one don't see the other. I don't do that enough to bother figuring out how to make it work.

I have one TV connected via ethernet, but everything else runs on the Wifi. I think there about 6 Rokus, 3 consoles, and a couple of smart TVs that run Netflix (lots of people in the house, all with their own gear).

Once in a while the cheap router will flake out and the netflix streams go to shit until I reset it, but otherwise everything works great, the gamers report good network conditions (the game PCs are on ethernet though).

Here you go:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B009LL9VDG/ref=mp_s_a_1_8?qid=1425786254&sr=8-8&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70&keywords=chromebook&dpPl=1&dpID=41pK4rlZbdL&ref=plSrch

They haves a used one, same model as your link $122, letting you get the hardware you need more than $47 less than what a new one is. You can buy Amazon gift cards at Walmart if you don't have a credit card. Good luck with everything!

I have had this Terk amplified antenna for about 8 years:

http://www.amazon.com/TERK-Amplified-Indoor-HDTV-Antenna/dp/B0007MXZB2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1452006609&sr=8-2&keywords=terk+antenna

I used to live near 168th and Pacific and it got all channels great, would sometimes have to point it slightly toward Gretna to get Fox.

I now live 37-41 miles from the broadcast antennas and I have the same antenna in my basement (not next to a window) and all channels come in perfectly.

The Terk is a little more expensive than most antennas but most people speak highly of them.
