No problem , thanks for the input:). I meant ego in the sense that, I have lots of pride in what I do, but I always take constructive criticism seriously whenever its given to me, because most of my life I just had to constructively criticize myself to get by. In order to learn things and what not

I decided to actually write 3 books on these topics,

  1. One for evernote, and just how to use it in general, as well as things I found helpful, such as embedding gifs in there. I actually will keep this book pretty short and sweet, like you can read it in an hour.

  2. One for onenote, same as above. There's some things like embedding images and collapsed screenshots that I did not find in any books that I made up myself. Also, I made many diagrams in onenote, I will mention how to use onenote like a visio tool. Everything else is pretty standard

  3. One really big book, where I talk about history, LEAN, onenote+evernote (but I won't tell you how to use it, I will tell you to youtube how to use them and where), how to maximize workflows, whether 1 or 2 software programs are best, calendar apps, time management. Its basically a book that compiles the best resources on optimizing yourself in this day and age. Its like David Allens GTD book http://www.amazon.com/Getting-Things-Done-Stress-Free-Productivity/dp/0143126563/ref=cm_wl_huc_item but more expanded on newer technologies. Essentially a lot of my rambo thoughts go here

    > I will say this though, those programs change a lot quicker than your book will pick up on popularity. If you made a book about note taking as a decent sized book that might work and then smaller book that could be updated on the uses of ON AND EN then you might be better off. But that's just strictly my opinion.

I agree with you on everything here, from first hand experience. Evernote (especially) more than onenote, decides to change UI things at random sometimes. The book will get outdated on evernote for sure, since its got BIG changes sometimes <1 year, whereas Onenote is about 3-6 years on average (Biggest change was 2010 to 2013 on its UI, some people reallly hated it)

    > For clarity, I usually don't even like to read. I use audio books. I just say all that to get at the point of I think an in-depth manual is great just don't want it to not keep up with the times. If that makes sense. Hope I didn't offend especially since you said u have an ego. Cheers

I guess you are referring to audible.com. I thought people mostly did that for fiction books if they did audio books. Do people actually use that for short manuals in evernote / onenote or software tutorials? I haven't really explored audio books a lot

    > in-depth manual is great just don't want it to not keep up with the times

On this thought, there are some things though, with evernote and onenote. I don't believe that ON especially will change much overtime (it really hasn't change a lot over the years imo), but EN will adapt to newer technologies, granted its UI won't change a lot. This book written now, won't be needing that many updates in the future. Even if evernote were to disappear one day, its had such a long lasting impact that many people have made EN clones off of it

  • EDIT: Also, I had a bunch of other books that I might explore afterwards, but that's until after I finish those 3

I just ordered a Rocketbook Everlast. It's rather expensive for a notebook, but it's pretty cool for a few reasons:

  1. The pages are made with a dot grid, a QR code and icons (see below), to be perfectly scanned by the app for upload as an image or pdf.
  2. The icons along the bottom allow you to decide where your page will be scanned to (OneNote, Evernote, Google Drive, Slack, etc) with just a checkmark.
  3. The notebook is completely reusable. You use a Pilot Frixion pen, then when you're done with the page, simply wipe it clean with a moist towel.

You can see a PDF sample here. You can print it out and try it with the Rocketbook app. I did and it worked nicely. If you didn't want to purchase the notebook, you could use these pages with the app.

    Good luck!

Basic iPad 7 10.2” can be had for $250 or 5% less at Target if you have a red card. Buy a refurbished pencil from Apple or used from amazon and your good to go for a great budget note taking device. I take hand written notes.

If you want a keyboard buy a refurshed iPad keyboard for the old iPad Pro 10.5 from Walmart ... w/ the $8 warranty. It’s the same keyboard as the new iPad 7. You might want a dbrand skin to protect the back from scratches too.

If you don’t need a keyboard like me, My fav case is like the one I have for my iPad Pro 1 ... the Ztotop case for iPad 7th Generation 10.2 Inch 2019. Holds the pencil inside the case.

Hope that helps!

Really? For the price of another good software or game with DLC [this model doesn't seem bad at all.]

https://www.amazon.com/Wacom-CTL490DW-Digital-Drawing-Graphics/dp/B010LHRFM2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1478125017&sr=8-2&keywords=wacom+bamboo

Or at a price of another keyboard periphery, or any PC periphery for that matter (be it a good headset, etc).

And this is from a person that has once owned and rocked an Intuos 2 back during the Pentium II days!

Biggest benefit of a PC periphery, is that it can be as mobile as one's own keyboard/mouse plug in, via laptop or PC box at a desk. Though, not as mobile and compact as the tablet PC, such as the Surface Pro lines.

Edit:

The OTHER MAJOR drawback of the graphics digitizer, is the visual disconnect. You would have to track the cursor on screen and match up with your writing on the graphics tablet, which is why I ultimately was ESTATIC about the Surface Pro 1 initially, being AT COST to an all inclusive mobile PC with the periphery, without the expense or form function of other at the time of market tablet PCs.

One would have to learn this disconnect and be able to deal with it, as many digitizer users have in the past. It would not come as naturally as a direct visual feedback to writing point, but it is certainly more natural than dragging a heavier cursor periphery on a pad!

upvoting in hopes others add to this.

Here's mine. As a student i have a courses notebook. each class gets a section. Each semester of classes get a section group. Thats the hierarchy. I too use a surface with the pen. when i get to class i pull out the tablet, launch ON with a click of a pen, if its not already open and add a new page. ill write down what is being taught while simultaneously recording audio for anything i may have missed. after class or at the end of the day ill go back and rename the day's page and might highlight some of the key points from the lecture. if the teacher passes out any papers, ill take a quick snap with Office Lens and file them with ON. I don't like holding on to papers so they get tossed. and thats pretty much it. Every thing just gets either written, sent to, saved in, or printed to ON and filed to the proper notebook to keep for ever.

I'm sure the venue should suffice for your note taking need. your method of note taking is completely yours. whether its web, outline, bullet journal or any of the many other ways. My question is are you using the app or the desktop version of ON? that might be the difference maker for you. and if you do know the difference and use your preferred version, than perhaps it is the device and possibly consider the surface.

And if its how tablet writing feels in general than perhaps you might consider this https://www.amazon.com/Rocketbook-WAV-S-Wave-Smart-Notebook/dp/B01GU6TINM/ref=pd_ybh_a_22?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=NZC9YFC01AY4TFQ15C8P

its a notebook that you can use with an app to upload to any of your preferred note applications and when you're done with the page, pop it into the microwave and the ink erases like magic.

Best of luck op

If you want a cheap one then the Picasso Tab is under £200 on Amazon and has an actually pretty decent pen experience. I don't think it's much use for anything else but it's what I use at work (where only ios and android devices are supported by our security stuff).

this is a good (and cheap) small mic option that you'll clip on top of the laptop screen

http://www.amazon.com/Blue-Microphones-Snowflake-USB-Microphone/dp/B0012AUHXW/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&linkCode=sl1&tag=aliqus09-20&linkId=a062dc42c9ab4d8891c3b8c5ba564b0f

it also use USB so you can still have the headphone jack, usb also means better recording quality , just make sure to change your recording device in onenote settings to the external mic

If the only issue with the Galaxy Note phone was the size, then you could get a Galaxy Note tablet

Note there is a 10 and 12 inch.

I have one and love it.

The online tool should cover most of your needs and it's probably accessible through the Chromebook. That said, if you're on a budget, I've found this Samsung Tablet to fulfil all my needs and I got it on the cheap around Black Friday two years ago. That said, Black Friday sales are coming up, so if you shop around, you could probably also pick up an iPad which do have better build quality and overall UX as well as inking capabilites.
