A bit of a novel, but I hope you find this helpful, OP.
First, to comment on what happened on your call with Microsoft: maybe it's possible you just got one of the really bad reps? But then again, they got a supervisor involved and they still wouldn't just fix the situation for you? Especially seeing as you hadn't even used your subscription... that is pretty ridiculous. Well, I'm confident that you'll find the PlayStation experience an enjoyable one.
-----
Honestly, this is probably the best time to try out a PS3. We're closing out on this generation of consoles and some of the best games of the last few years have been PlayStation exclusives. Especially if you've been using an Xbox 360 this whole time, you're about ready to meet a whole new world of incredible titles.
Quick edit: Just wanted to clarify... I'm including links to Amazon just as an easy way for you to learn more about individual titles. But just as /u/undeadwolfy mentioned:
>You can buy most of these pre-owned at a decent price. Some are digital so they're not much cheaper but still great.
So first and foremost, I highly recommend anything by Naughty Dog -- they are arguably the best developer in the entire industry right now. They released four titles on the PS3: Uncharted 1, 2 & 3 (each game is a must-play), and the absolute masterpiece that is The Last of Us. You've probably heard plenty of praise for The Last of Us (and it is well deserved), but I would recommend saving the best for last. It's such an awesome game that, after completing it, nothing else I played interested me anymore. It took like a month to get back into the gaming groove, so I'd save that 'til after you beat the Uncharted trilogy. It's that good.
Aside from that, there are some other great titles I'd highly recommend. I don't know what kind of games you're into, so I'll just list all those that I've liked, personally:
Not to mention plenty of other great exclusives (Rachet & Clank series, Resistance trilogy, Valkyria Chronicles and more) and the tons of PS1 and PS2 games on the PlayStation Store for cheap, playable on your PS3 if you want to go old school. (Not to mention the many PS2 games being rereleased for PS3 in HD glory... I'd recommend Shadow of the Colossus, which happens to be free for PlayStation Plus members this month... hint hint.) Of course, all the multiplatform games are also here (Battlefield, Bioshock, Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, etc.).
That said, however, if you really want to jump in the game, PlayStation Plus is worth every penny -- a ton of free games each month (and we're talking major titles, in addition to a handful of indies), plus a large variety of other system-enhancing features and discounts. And if you're looking at getting a PS4, getting PS+ is a no-brainer. For one, it is required for online multiplayer on the PS4 (no such requirement on the PS3, but hey, they've got to make their money somehow). But what's awesome is that one PS+ account will work across both the PS3 & PS4, and enable you to get free games for each console for as long as you are a subscriber, with free games on the PS4 appearing on day one.
Welcome to the new age. Now cue up some Imagine Dragons and get ready for a freaking awesome experience. We're glad to have you.
Let me fully explain the whole thing between #1 and #2. In Uncharted 1, you get to know all of the characters and get familiar with Nathan Drake himself. He's a badass, and although the game has some flaws (sometimes clunky controls, gets a little uninteresting a couple of times) it is still a very solid game. However, this game only has a singleplayer mode and no multiplayer, so you might want to keep that in mind.
I did a quick search and found it for $23.81 on Amazon
It's quite expensive, especially since it's been a couple years since it's been out but remember, I definitely think it's worth it. I bet you could even find it cheaper somewhere else.
As for Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, it's quite simply amazing. It's like playing a blockbuster movie Indiana Jones. It's cinematic, and quite possibly the only game that is literally breathtaking. Character development is great, the story is very interesting, and I never felt bored at any time in the game. Literally from start to finish, I was enjoying every second of it, and I can't say that about any game. The controls are much smoother, and after you're done the singleplayer mode (which I played 4 times through, it's that much fun) there's also a multiplayer mode that is very fun. Might not be your cup of tea, but it's great to try out. The Co-Op mode is excellent, imo.
Again, on Amazon I found the Game of the Year Edition of the game for $22.88 (Which is surprisingly cheaper than the first one).
The GOTY edition has all of the DLC and add-ons for the multiplayer which I would say are all worth it.
Now, as for why you should play the first one. There are quite a number of references to the first game in Uncharted 2. Remember, Naughty Dog developed the game so that any person could pick up the second and be completely comfortable with it, but playing the first then this one you will really appreciate it. Uncharted 2 is also so good that you will probably want to play the first game after, just to play some more Uncharted. Unfortunately, you WILL be disappointed. Some people may prefer the first one for a couple of reasons but honestly there's no competition. Finally, it's really nice to get to know the characters and what they are about before you play the second one. Other than that, that's really it.
I really hope you find that helpful.
And as for God Of War, I highly recommend you play the second game. It's my favorite of the series, based off the story and gameplay, but on the other hand GOW3, is simply beautiful. It's almost euphoric destroying Mount Olympus in HD, and you'll see what I'm talking about when you get to it. There is a God Of War collection for the PS3, which is the HD rerelease of the games for the PS3, so you might want to look into that. I really don't think you should skip out on GOW2.
hahah sorry for the block of text btw, I just wanted you to fully understand.
Mass Effect 2 is $20 new, and comes with almost all the important DLC on PS3. If you buy a used copy, the Cerberus network code might already be used, and you miss out on some stuff, so go with new. Even though it is single player, I think it has plenty of replay value, maybe more than any other single player game I've played since the first Mass Effect.
I liked GTA IV well enough to complete the main game, but I never finished the two DLCs, nor did I like the multiplayer. But I know some folks really liked the multiplayer, so who knows.
Uncharted 2 and 3 both have multiplayer, but I never really played them, so I can't comment on them. But I think both games have great single player campaigns. Unfortunately Uncharted 2 seems to be a little on the pricey side right now. I know you can get it for cheaper, but you may have to be patient. again, used copies may have a code that has already been redeemed, so caveat emptor. also you can get it as part of a dual pack with the first one, but that exhausts your budget right there.
I will also put in a plug for Borderlands. it's been on sale for $15 with all the DLC on the PSN for PS+ members, and still was last time I looked. it has a lot of good DLC, but even without the DLC, it is plenty fun, and has good local and online multiplayer. really multiplayer to me is he only fun way to play the game. it also has good replay value in my opinion.
I'm not sure why you would want a used system with a small hard drive for close to the cost of a brand-new system with a bigger drive. Amazon currently has The Last of Us bundle with a 500GB drive for $270:
>PS3 500GB The Last of Us Bundle
>Link: http://amzn.com/B00IA2NYT4
I got a similar bundle on Black Friday for $200, though it was only a 250GB drive but also included Arkham Origins. If you don't have a PS+ subscription, you will absolutely want it because it's worth far more than the $50 yearly subscription cost and you'll start out with a ton of great games right off the bat (Tomb Raider, Borderlands 2, Bioshock Infinite to name a few). And those are likely a lot better than the "under $10" games that Gamestop is offloading on you. See /r/playstationplus/ for more details.
Also, if you're looking to save some cash, you can get a third-party controller such as this one for half the cost of an official DualShock3. I really like this one because it's a clone of the XBox 360 controller so it helped make the transition much easier!
>Pro Elite Wireless Controller for PS3 by POWER A
>Link: http://amzn.com/B003V4AK8E
Here are my favorites:
And I'm really enjoying Spec Ops: The Line right now.
I recommend going on amazon and seeing if there's and 3rd party sellers that are selling new. If you live in Canada, you can try kijiji, or craigslist if you live in USA. It shouldn't be too hard to find, especially if you're looking on sites like ebay. I know you said you don't like to buy used, but if it's from a reputable seller, and they have a good refund policy, then you got nothing to lose.
Or if you want an actual good 3rd party PS3 controller, try this:
https://www.amazon.com/Horipad-FPS-Plus-PS4/dp/B0106XFCPI/ref=sr_1_3?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1538624918&sr=1-3&keywords=hori+ps3&dpID=410GJOh2lSL&preST=_SX300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

Hori is a very trusted brand. Highly recommend them.
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00DVNHOVQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
this is the one i ordered, but i have a cech3001a.
there is a chart there that should help. the best way to be sure would be to open it up first and verify the model number on the deck... it looks like you should be looking for a KES-450A.
now , whether you want to purchase the laser, the laser and the deck, or the whole drive is up to you. i personally, found the deck and laser combo to be the simplest and most cost effective .
I'd recommend the Legacy Collection new off Amazon. I got the one without the artbook for $29.99. I wanted the codes for MGS1 and MGS VR Missions so I could download them to my Vita (MGS1 needs a PS3 to transfer in NA, FYI). Even at that price for the amount of games you're getting, this is a steal. I've only ever beat MGS 1 & 2. MGS1 for PS1 may be hard for someone who's never played it before to get into. If you played action games from the PS1/N64/Dreamcast era though you should be able to pick up and play. Easy mode is pretty damn easy for MGS games (MGS2 even has a "very easy" mode if I'm not mistaken) so if you just want to play and catch up on the story for those games, you can do so with minimal frustration. If you like a challenge, start on Normal and work your way up.
EDIT: $29.99 Canadian, FYI. Looks like it's down to $27.50 now too https://www.amazon.ca/Metal-Gear-Solid-Legacy-Collection/dp/B00KTZELMY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1466955575&sr=8-1&keywords=metal+gear+legacy
>he drive doesn't have to be an official Sony one right?
Nope, it can be any laptop HDD! Has to be 9.5mm though! Most are, but some 1TB might be 12mm and those wont fit.
I am using the WD Black 7200RPM 750GB
http://www.amazon.com/Black-250-Mobile-Hard-Drive/dp/B001CO3EKG
You could also get a cheaper 5400RPM drive (That type is in PS3 stock) or 5400 and something bigger like
http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Momentus-2-5-Inch-Internal-Notebook/dp/B007PG25UU/ref=sr_1_7?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1372845305&sr=1-7&keywords=seagate+momentus
or
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148371
But seeing as something like
http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Momentus-Internal-Notebook-ST9750420AS/dp/B004MME0N0/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1372845305&sr=1-3&keywords=seagate+momentus
is not that much more expensive I would not go below 500GB.
Do NOT get the WD Blue series for PS3. From what I read when I was upgrading mine they have a too aggressive head parking "feature" to save power so the head parks and takes a while to spin up again.
I actually just bought a PS3 last week and had the same questions. Thankfully, while I had no help from others I figured it out myself.
I have a Dell LCD monitor (1920x1080) that I connect to my PS3 with and a set of speakers for audio output.
Mine works perfectly fine and I have never had any problems with display (or any of the horror stories that you mentioned.)
I do not have MW3, but I do have many games that output video from 720p to 1080i to 1080p and they all work fine and look completely natural as you would expect.
Pieces of hardware that you will need:
A HDMI to DVI cable, a 3.5mm Stereo Male To 2X RCA Female Adapter or Y splitter as some people call it, and female stereo coupler if you are going to plug it into a speaker instead of your PC. If just using PC speakers, then you do not need a coupler.
As for monitor recommendations, chose any that have a 1920x1080 resolution and has a DVI connector (most modern monitors should have this as default).
Hope this helps!
Edit: If you have any questions, feel free to ask! I remember how confused I was trying to set everything up.
You need to go into the playsation store (on your ps3 or I prefer on a PC: https://store.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com) and "purchase" the games for $0 and then they'll be available in your account to download whenever your PS+ account is active.
As I understand it, you can have a lapse too, so activate it today, pick up the january titles...then grab the february titles. Then if it lapses before you install a new drive, just re-activate it whenever and you should have access to the titles from both of those months.
Also, you should consider throwing in a 1tb instead. The price difference is less than $20 at this point and you'd be set for life. Here's the one I threw in mine:
WD Blue 1 TB Mobile Hard Drive: 2.5 Inch, 5400 RPM, SATA II, 8 MB Cache - WD10JPVT
$62 It's worked perfectly. Looks like they have a newer model for a buck more so I'd probably go with that one today (looks to be compatible with all models):
Western Digital Bare Drives 1TB WD Blue SATA III 5400 RPM 8 MB Cache Bulk/OEM Notebook Hard Drive WD10JPVX
Why don’t you get a vertical stand for it? I got the official one from amazon recently and the quality is amazing. Right now it’s $6.99 with free shipping which is a really good price.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B008UTF3W8/ref=mw_dp_olp?ie=UTF8&condition=all
This is the exact one I'm using. I got it in-store at Fry's Electronics, and it was on sale at the time. http://frys.com/product/5442979
Amazon has it for a tad cheaper atm http://www.amazon.com/Thermaltake-Mobile-Fan-External-Cooling/dp/B00080G0BK
Basically any USB powered fan should be fine. I have the PS3 placed vertically, with the USB fan resting on top to help blow hot air out.
That sounds cheap for an upgrade, but you'll be throwing that money away when you inevitably upgrade from that 320 GB to a larger drive. Beyond the cost, it's not that easy to transfer your data from one drive to another; you'd need an external enclosure to attach the new drive via USB, which is likely going to be an additional cost on top of the $25.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AUH3L04
You're looking at $50 for a 1 TB HDD versus paying $25 extra and then maybe another $20 or so on top of that for the enclosure when you're ready to switch it out. To be fair, I should note that the option to just redownload everything does exist, so you can do without the external enclosure, but PlayStation download speeds and install times aren't the best, and YMMV based upon your own network speeds. You may also need to subscribe to PS Plus to preserve your save data as some are locked out unless you do the system backup or upload to the cloud. I just believe it's more practical and cost effect to do it now.

Honestly, I do not know how you can not find the game somewhere. :) If you live in the nordic region (denmark, norway, sweden) I know even more. All those I listed, is stores that I've used and trust.
XBL: AC2 is now free!
PS+: Bitch please, AC3 is now free!
Go ahead and make the switch when/if you can afford it. I recommend this...http://www.amazon.com/PS3-Uncharted-Plus-Bundle-Playstation-3/dp/B00D6LPE2E/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1377196242&sr=8-2&keywords=ps3+bundle
It comes with Uncharted 3 and a year of PS+.
Or you could wait for the GTA 5 bundle as well.
Amazon has the base system for $249 with free shipping. I'm in a 6% sales tax state so for me, that would save $15 versus buying it locally at Wal Mart or somewhere like that.
I actually want to buy a PS3 to play GTA V. I find a lot of great deals (like this one), but if you add the import fees, I'd end up paying more than if I would just buy the PS3 from my friend and pre-ordering GTA V separately.
How about the WD Blue ones? Or do they all have this auto-park issue? This one seems to work well with the PS3: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0037NYQ6Q/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
That should be fine. There's a similarly priced 1Tb WD drive, which seems to include 2 year warranty. It's really up to you, as they both should work fine.
http://www.amazon.com/Blue-Mobile-Hard-Disk-Drive/dp/B00C9TEBJQ/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1463951685&sr=8-11&keywords=ps3+hard+drive
Ah yeah, thanks for correcting the URL :) They also have an awesome extension for Chrome (and I would assume Firefox) so you can make the notifications right there in amazon's website. It's quite cool. You'll also get the historical data there as well.
Used will always be cheaper because it needs to compete against new. Why by a used product if you can buy new? So you price it less. New can't keep chasing used as you'll just eventually bottom out (ie: shits just free). The used market can't be used to direct prices.
Movies usually make all their money in ticket sales in theaters, the DVD release is just icing on the cake. Unfortunately for games, they don't have theatrical releases. Most games will eventually sit around $20 once they're old enough, Metal Gear Solid 4 has been $20 for ages, same with Resident Evil 4 and even Assassin's Creed II, which comparatively isn't as old as those other games. You can also get Medal of Honor and Dante's Inferno for $20, and I think they're barely 2 years old, perhaps only a year and a half actually (and the list of $20 games goes on and on).
There's a good deal going on at Amazon right now. 300 dollars with a 50 dollar amazon credit (which you can use for an extra controller)
http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-3-160-GB/dp/B003VUO6H4
The price is less than $7 with free shipping. And the base definitely makes it more solid than it would stand without one> https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008UTF3W8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Afterglow controllers are pretty good. Around 25 normally, and on sale through Amazon right now.

Nothing in the PS3 lineup will ever SCREAM stealth game like Metal Gear. Metal Gear is to Stealth games what Super Mario Brothers is to platformers.

MGS 2 + 3 + 4. You're looking at well over 100 hours of gameplay for super cheap if you go used.
Seriously, this series is what defined the entire stealth genre. get this, dear god.
Mine was doing the same thing as well. I sent it in for repair, and a year later it started happening again. I tried everything. The thing that finally worked was this. It is a USB fan. My PS3 was getting to hot where it seats in my entertainment center. I have not had any random shut downs since putting this behind my ps3, and letting it run.
This may not fix your issue, but it may help, and it is a lot cheaper then sending it in for repair.
I upgraded my PS3 HDD a few months ago from a 160 GB to a 750 Western Digital 7200 RPM HDD. The space that I currently have left on my HDD is only 360 GB. With PlayStation Plus becoming better and better every month I would suggest using a bigger HDD than a 500 GB.
Here is a link to a 1TB 5400 RPM 2.5inch Hard Drive from Western Digital Total cost is only $78.05 with Prime, if you don't have prime I suggest signing up for a free month or use a school email to make an account, this way you can get Amazon Prime for 6 months for free and half off for up to 4 years after that.
I might be the exception on filling my HDD up because I do own quite a few games myself, I own around 60+ games that are all disk based. Some will argue that they are on disk and will not take up much space on your HDD, but a lot of games in this generation are going to a manual install on your HDD. I can name a few, GTA4, Ni No Kuni, and MGS4. Also Rock Star just announced that GTA5 will have a mandatory 8 GB install on your HDD before you can play the game.
What I am trying to say in short is, if you can spare the extra cash go ahead and purchase a 1TB because with PlayStation Plus you are going to need all the HDD space you can muster up.
Got these games last month:
Heavy Rain - $15 (BF @ Gamestop)
Dirt3 - $15 (BF @ BB)
Uncharted 3 - $30 (BF @ BB)
Uncharted 1 & 2 - $25 (BB Deal)
Ico & Shadows of the Colossus - $20 (BB Deal + Rebate)
Batman Arkham City - $30 (BF)
Need for Speed: The Run - $30 (BF)
Resistance 1 & 2 - $25 (BB Deal)
Total cost = $190 (before taxes)
BB = Best Buy Dual Pack Deal
BF = Black Friday
The next games I'm looking into getting are Goldeneye 007 Reloaded (Bundle Edition), Saints Row: The Third, and Skyrim
I justgot this one and it seems pretty good.
If it's in some sort of cubby and feels warm, you can get a decent and cheap USB fan to circulate air. I have this one and it works great.
Buy a HDD from Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0037NYQ6Q/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I bought this one a few months ago and it works like a charm.
get this drive. it works with no issues and is 1.5TB, the largest 2.5” drive the PS3 will accept.
I’ve had one in my PS3 slim since April. love all that extra space!
Hey buddy...sorry for the late response. Some days I'm on Reddit full-time and others I forget about it and go play Monster Hunter for a few days.
Here it is. REMEMBER to check your model number because not all lasers are the same. This package also comes with the T8 security driver that you need.
EDIT: Just to be clear, mine is a PS3 Slim model CECH-2501a 160GB (though I swapped it out for this at the same time. Just have an external drive handy for backup if you do this but super highly recommended.
Ditto. I just put a Western Digital 750gb in mine a month or so ago.
OP, here's a WD 500GB for near the same price.
Or a 750GB for only $10 more.
I use a similar setup, HDMI to monitor... but then I run the red&white cables from the AV cable (that came with the ps3) into something like this C2G / Cables to Go 40645 3.5mm Stereo Male To 2X RCA Female Adapter, and then into my line-in. Works just fine for me.
You would want to use the composite cables that came with ps3.
http://www.amazon.com/C2G-Cables-40645-Stereo-Adapter/dp/B000J1H4VI/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1372095739&sr=8-9&keywords=rca+to+3.5mm
using that you can get the audio to a 3.5mm jack
http://www.amazon.com/FiiO-E5-Headphone-Amplifier/dp/B001P9EQH8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1372095704&sr=8-2&keywords=Fiio+amp
http://www.amazon.com/FiiO-E11-Portable-Headphone-Amplifier/dp/B0053KWDES/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1372095704&sr=8-4&keywords=Fiio+amp
get yourself and amplifier so you can control volume.
plug the RCA->3.5mm into the amplifier input and plug anything you want as the output be it speakers or headphones.
This is what i use to get my HD650s working with my ps3 :D. It works quite nicely
If all else fails you can buy a PDP branded third party controller. To which 2 were made by them. Afterglow, and rock candy. They'll be the closest thing you'll get to a Dualshock 3 on PS3. That and they are quite reliable compared to the cheap knock-off Dualshock 3 controllers commonly found all over the place nowadays. Only downside is they are for the most part obtainable online since they were part of the PS3 era, and for the most part mainly PS3 games can be found.
The few chances of a genuine Dualshock 3 used in a store are rare, along with any official third party controllers like the ones I noted. Anyways I've linked both below.
Rock Candy wired https://www.amazon.com/Rock-Candy-PS3-Controller-PlayStation-3/dp/B008U2XEBM?th=1
Afteglow wired https://www.amazon.com/Afterglow-AP-1-Controller-PS3-Playstation-3/dp/B003IU01LC?th=1
what'd you pay for the system, and what kind?
first, before you buy anymore games, i strongly suggest you get a FREE amazon Prime subscription. don't know how? sign up at any community college, DO NOT register for classes, you are only doing this to get a ".edu" email address. use the .edu to register for an amazon prime account.
i'm not a fan of red dead redemption, though i loved red dead. also the mass effect series was one i had a hard time catching on to. rather than rank by number, i'll just put an asterisk next to my top choices.
If they have any more of the white 500GB ps3 with a 1 year ps plus subscription, that's the best bundle I've seen:https://www.google.com/shopping/product/357152954471901647?q=ps3%20white%20classic%20bundle&safe=off&bav=on.2,or.r_cp.r_qf.&bvm=bv.50500085,d.aWc,pv.xjs.s.en_US.ciY8R2R6XC8.O&biw=1024&bih=511&tch=1&ech=1&psi=f-AHUpefD8nayAGcw4DIDw.1376247941469.3&sa=X&ei=ieAHUoC7IomMyQHzuYFY&ved=0CEgQgggwAA&prds=scoring:tp
Or this if you can wait: http://www.amazon.com/Grand-Theft-Auto-Bundle-Playstation-3/dp/B00DBKSN8M/ref=dp_ob_title_vg
This is the one I got. It works great for me.
So it is just any 2.5" drive for laptops? Any other specifics I should be worried about?
Would this one work in a Slim PS3? $80 seems like a good deal for a 750 gig hard drive.
https://www.amazon.com/Metal-Gear-Solid-Legacy-Collection-Playstation/dp/B00KTZELMY
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Metal-Gear-Solid-Legacy-Collection-for-Playstation-3-Brand-New-Factory-Sealed/293155988043?epid=65844957&hash=item444175624b&_trkparms=ispr%3D1
amazon is $25 and the ebay one is $23 but slightly slower shipping
make sure you buy it sealed! do not buy it used, MGS1 and vr missions come in voucher codes and you need them unused
It's only like $25 on amazon?
https://www.amazon.com/Metal-Gear-Solid-Legacy-Collection-Playstation/dp/B00KTZELMY/
metal gear solid hd collection has all the metal gear games besides V and allows you to play them in chronological order of the story so its more cohesive.
Sony made an official vertical stand footer for it, so it should be OK.
The GTA 5 500GB PS3 bundle might be a good option if you're planning on getting that game. and its only $269.99
I've tried several controllers and there are only 2 I really like (not counting the PS4 controller):
I'd do it ASAP just so you don't have to reinstall whatever games you get in the future. If you have a lot of games, definitely get a 1tb drive. I got a 5400RPM 1tb Toshiba drive for 46 bucks: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XGQRGY4/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_UHqazbE2XDXN7. There are also 1.5tb drives (the maximum that a PS3 can address): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KY9M6FY/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_oMqazbC5EZE3E
Sony brand PS2 controller + PS2 to USB converter = best PS3 controller for cheap.
http://www.amazon.com/PS2-Playstation-Controller-Adapter-Converter-3/dp/B000PS1TG6/
When the PS3 is on and the controller is plugged in, press the Analog button to "sync" the controller. The Analog button acts as the Home button. Press once for the XMB and twice for the controller options.
Want Xbox a styled controller? Look in-store Walmarts for Power A controller. http://www.walmart.com/ip/Pro-EX-POWER-A-PS3-Wired-Controller-Black-PS3-PS3/14962336
Another Xbox style: PDP Afterglow
http://www.amazon.com/Afterglow-AP-1-Controller-PS3-Playstation-3/dp/B003IU01LC/
Third party controllers are known to have more dead zone in the analog sticks. So I'd go the PS2 controller route if you need that precision.
PS3 500GB The Last of Us Bundle = $269.00 & FREE Shipping
This seems like a deal, and no worries about whether the used machine works.
Edit: I now see you're not in the US...
It's like $25 on Amazon US. If you're on some other country the price may be different.
i'd recommend the uncharted with ps+ bundle. 250gb hard drive. $249 right now.
http://amzn.com/B00D6LPE2E
I don't think it includes the headset. If that's the case, that's a hell of a deal. Over $210 (MSRP) worth of extras and a PS3 for only $299.
I think that's too good to be true.
Edit: [Here's](
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DBKSN8M/ref=cm_sw_r_an_am_ap_am_us?ie=UTF8) the listing.
You could get MGS Collection and Uncharted 3 for about the price of BF3 Premium.
A quick Amazon search reveals:
UC3 is $33 new, $25 used:
http://www.amazon.com/Uncharted-3-Drakes-Deception-Playstation/dp/B004EQCCI4/
MGS is $30 new, $29 used:
http://www.amazon.com/Metal-Gear-Solid-Collection-Playstation-3/dp/B0050SX97I/
so I say go with that!
I recommend you DO NOT but a solid state hard drive! They are too expensive! What you need is a 2.5" 5400 RPM SATA hard drive. I recently upgraded my PS3 using this guy [link] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00C9TEBJQ/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) You can get one on Amazon for under $80. The review that you see in there is from my wife.
You need to catch up! Get the Metal Gear Solid collection
http://www.amazon.com/Metal-Gear-Solid-Collection-Playstation-3/dp/B0050SX97I/ref=acc_glance_vg_ai_ps_t_6
At the moment the GTA5 500GB bundle starts at $360 (on Amazon). I'd say $269 is a price drop. 12GB systems go for $199 without a game (at Walmart). For $20 more and the price of a game you get much more storage.
So yeah, you could technically just go ahead and spend $199 on a 12GB system... but you'd eventually want to upgrade the HDD.
This is one of the pest drives you can get for a PS3. I don't see the point of replacing the PSU if it is not broken.
same brand
That shouldn't be the case, unless they come with games/movies/move. They are all the slim model now; they won't be labeled as slim. [This] (http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-3-160GB-System/dp/B003VUO6H4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1325096787&sr=8-1) is what you're looking for.
Typically you would refer to this as storage. Generally, "memory" refers to RAM which in the case of the PS3 is non-upgradeable. That said, the PS3 maxes out at 1.5TB. You should get this one:
https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Spinpoint-2-5-Inch-Internal-ST1500LM006/dp/B00KY9M6FY/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1492112703&sr=1-1&keywords=1.5tb+2.5
how's this?
$45 on Canadian Amazon
I'd go with this: http://www.amazon.com/PS3-Uncharted-Plus-Bundle-Playstation-3/dp/B00D6LPE2E/ref=sr_1_6?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1377728859&sr=1-6&keywords=ps3
According to Amazon, it'll arrive when GTA is released
I am getting a PS3, but am going to wait till September and get the GTA V bundle.
Buy a stereo female RCA to 3.5mm male Y adapter. Then, you can connect it to your PC speakers. Just remember to change your PS3's audio output settings to output using the RCA cables. Here is what you need.
http://www.amazon.com/Cables-Go-Stereo-Female-Adapter/dp/B000J1H4VI/ref=sr_1_8?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1289730471&sr=1-8
Well stop what you're doing and go buy this right now.
I had to do the same thing back in May.
This is the one I got:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00C9TEBJQ/ref=mp_s_a_1_11?qid=1416481656&sr=8-11&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70
So far I've had no problems with it, I recommend it.
I don't know which ones you haven't played, so I'm just going to list whichever ones come to mind.
Infamous collection
Tomb Raider
GTA IV Complete Edition
Assassins Creed 1
Assassins Creed: Ezio Trilogy
Far Cry 3
Skyrim
Hitman: Absolution
Uncharted 1 & 2 pack
Uncharted 3
ICO and Shadow of the Colossus Collection
Heavy Rain
Though there are probably many more that I'm forgetting.
Edit: Had to remove Assassins Creed 3 because the price went up to $34.77.
