If you're not opposed to getting things separately, then I have some recommendations and suggestions. There's also some info you should know if you want to get better value for your money. I've explained in the least technical way I can. Just ask if you have questions.

🎧 Headphones

---

Open-back:

  • AKG K612 Pro
  • AKG K701
  • AKG K702
  • Audio-Technica ATH-AD700x
  • Audio-Technica ATH-AD900x
  • Beyerdynamic DT880
  • Beyerdynamic DT990
  • Philips Fidelio X2
  • Sennheiser Game One (headset)
  • Sennheiser HD558/HD579
  • Sennheiser HD598/HD599

    Closed-back:

  • AKG K550
  • Audio Technica ATH-MSR7
  • Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro Plus
  • Beyerdynamic DT770
  • Sennheiser Game Zero (headset)
  • V-MODA Crossfade M-100

The first thing you should determine is whether you need sound isolation or not.

  • Open-back: the earcups have perforations/openings that allow sound to freely pass through. This often provides a larger soundstage and better imaging.

  • Closed-back: the earcups have solid shells that isolate sound from passing through to various extent.

Next, you should figure out which sound signature you prefer.

  • Balanced/flat/neutral: doesn't over- or under-emphasize the bass or treble.
  • Warm: emphasizes the bass.
  • Dark: recesses the treble. A headphone can be warm and dark.
  • Bright: emphasizes the treble. Bass may be recessed.
  • U-shape: emphasizes the bass and treble a little.
  • V-shape: emphasizes the bass and treble more than U-shaped.
  • Mid-forward: the mids are louder than the bass and treble. The mids may be emphasized or the bass and treble may be recessed.

Sub-bass is where rumble lies. This is easier to find in closed-back headphones. Mid-bass is where impact lies.

Lastly, you should know what sound characteristics constitute positional audio and pertain to immersion.

  • Soundstage: is produced by the headphone, not the game. It's perceived space and environment of sound. It's the size of the sound field. A small soundstage makes the environment around you sound confined or boxed in. With a large soundstage, the environment sounds much more spatial, open and natural. You can't comprehend it without experiencing it.

  • Imaging: is inherent to the audio content. It's how accurately the locations of sounds/objects are reproduced.

  • Separation: is how you discern individual sounds from a range of overlapping sounds. This is only important for competitive shooters.

Of the listed headphones, I have Audio-Technica ATH-AD700x, Beyerdynamic DT990 (600 ohms), Philips Fidelio X2 and Sennheiser HD598.

  • AD700x: is bright with recessed sub-bass. It has clean bass and a little harsh treble. It has a huge soundstage, excellent imaging, separation and clarity, and great detail retrieval.

It has a lightweight and durable build without flimsy and squeaky parts. The earpads are made of smooth, non-itchy velour and are very soft. They have a good size and depth for average sized adult ears and have very good quality. The clamping force isn't too tight or too loose for an average sized adult head. The wing design is a gimmick to me; the headphone slides down and rests on my ears, but using a headband cover like this prevents it from happening and makes the headphone extremely comfortable to wear.

  • DT990: has emphasized mid-bass, recessed sub-bass, and very emphasized treble. The bass is clean. The treble is slightly splashy and somewhat sharp. It has a huge soundstage and excellent imaging, separation, clarity and detail retrieval. The 600-ohm version requires an external/dedicated headphone amplifier or a sound card.

It has a lightweight and sturdy build without flimsy and squeaky parts. The earpads are made of silky smooth velour and are very soft. They have a good size and depth and have great quality. The clamping force is just right. It's extremely comfortable to wear.

  • Fidelio X2: has emphasized sub-and mid-bass and treble. It has clean bass and smooth treble, meaning the treble isn't harsh, scratchy, splashy, piercing or anything else that's offensive to the ears. The soundstage is very wide, like the others I've mentioned, but it lacks some depth. It's probably only noticeable if you play competitively or compare it head-to-head with other headphones that are deeper. This affects the imaging from front to back somewhat. The imaging from left to right is excellent. Separation and clarity are excellent. Detail retrieval is great. The bass overpowers sound cues a lot.

It's a little heavy and has a sturdy build without flimsy and squeaky parts. The earpads have great quality and are soft, very roomy, and made of smooth velour. The clamping force is more on the tighter side. The comfort is very good.

  • HD598: is mid-forward with recessed sub-bass. It has clean bass and smooth treble. I haven't used it much, so my impressions of its competitive performance are that it has a large soundstage and good imaging, separation and detail retrieval. Clarity is excellent.

It has a lightweight and sturdy build without flimsy and squeaky parts. The earpads are soft and made of smooth velour. They have a good size and depth and have very good quality. The clamping force is tight, especially when the headphone is new. It's comfortable to wear.

I also compare to AKG K52, AKG Q701, HiFiMan HE400i (the revision), HiFiMan HE500, HyperX Cloud, Philips SHP9500, Monoprice Monolith M1060, Sennheiser HD700, Sennheiser HD800, Superlux HD662 EVO, Superlux HD668B, Superlux HD669, Superlux HD681 EVO, Tritton Pro+ and Turtle Beach Ear Force XP Seven MLG Pro.

My evaluations are based on games -- not music. I test headphones mostly in BF:BC2, BF3, BF4 and R6S.

    🔊 Microphones

    ---

  • Antlion ModMic 4: it attaches magnetically to a base that sticks to either earcup. It's easy to attach and detach and doesn't fall off unless you accidentally hit it or violently move your head around. The mic has a flexible neck and can be tilted up and out of sight. It has a very good build quality and great sound quality for voice chat. It's compatible with all headphones.

  • V-MODA BoomPro: it inserts directly into the headphone, replacing the original headphone cable. It's compatible with Philips Fidelio X2 and V-MODA Crossfade M-100. It has a great build quality with an aluminum gooseneck and a tangle-free and braided cable. It has volume and mic mute controls. It has great sound quality for voice chat.

    Alternatives:

  • Antlion ModMic 5
  • Audio-Technica AT2020USB
  • Blue Snowball
  • Blue Yeti
  • Massdrop Minimic (currently unavailable)
  • Neewer Clip on Mini Lapel Microphone
  • Samson Go
  • Sony ECMCS3
  • Zalman ZM-Mic1

    Additional gear and accessories

    ---

Volume and mic mute control for use with DS4:

  • adjustR
  • Fosmon
  • Insignia
  • Lucid Sound AdjustR

    USB adapters:

  • BENGOO
  • Ugreen, single jack
  • Ugreen, dual jacks

    Amplifier and DAC combos:

  • Audioengine D1
  • FX Audio DAC-X6
  • Micca OriGen G2
  • Schiit Magni 3 + FiiO D3
  • SMSL SD793-II

To use an amp, you need a DAC (digital-to-analog converter) because USB and optical are digital signals and PS4 has no analog outputs. USB DACs may reverse the left and right channels or not work at all, so I have only included DACs that use optical, which is completely reliable. You can use an HDMI-to-optical converter if you have Slim.

    Sound cards:

  • Astro MixAmp Pro TR
  • Creative Sound BlasterX G1
  • Creative Sound BlasterX G5
  • Turtle Beach Elite Pro TAC

    Setup

    ---

To connect the headphone and ModMic, Minimic, Neewer clip-on mic, ECMCS3 or ZM-Mic1 to the controller, you need a Y-splitter with three black rings on the connector, which is called a TRRS or 4-pole Y-splitter.

If you want to use an amp and a DAC, then the mic must connect to the controller with a Y-splitter. The headphone connects directly to the amp. To avoid this clutter, you can use a sound card / USB adapter instead. You may have to use a Y-splitter if it has just one jack.

The BoomPro doesn't require a Y-splitter and works only with the controller, sound cards, and other devices that have a TRRS jack, meaning they are designed for headsets. The BoomPro doesn't work with amps and DACs.

I don't think this has anything to do with the PS4 specifically, but it is definitely a good idea to customize your TV's settings. Usually 'Movie' mode or some equivalent will be significantly better right away, and then you can play around with it as you see fit. Like some suggested, AVS forums has some good information if you search for your TV, and reviewers like CNET, digital trends, etc generally post their recommended settings in the review. The best option of course is to get your TV professionally calibrated by an ISF calibrator, but that can cost around 300. If you're really interested in getting the best picture out of your TV but don't want to pay for calibration, I suggest getting a Disney WoW or Spears and Munsil calibration disc. They walk you through the calibration process step by step and give you test patterns and footage so you can adjust your settings till it looks right to you. The Disney one is especially useful for beginners, I've linked both below.

Most 120hz TV's are really 60hz displays with software that makes it look smoother. Many TV's come with a game mode that disables the software because it adds input lag. Also look out for input lag in TV's. Some brands tend to have a higher input lag but generally Sony, Samsung, LG, and Vizio are pretty good.

I'd definitely pick a 1080p display over a 720p one. Even though a few games like assassins creed unity output at 900p the ps4 will scale it up to 1080p and there is a very noticeable difference between 720p and 1080p.

If you have kids or need to be quiet at night pick up a pair of headphones. They can plug right into your controller and the games audio will go through them. If online will be your thing skip the headphones and pick up a headset. Sony's gold wireless headset is a pretty good one and should be on sale either right now or by Monday. No cooling fans will be necessary but make sure you have a spot set up that gives your ps4 enough room. If you're picking up a second controller consider picking up a charging station that plugs into an outlet. I have the nyko one and it has been great so far but I've also heard really good things about the power A one. If you're not getting a second controller don't worry about buying a dock. I don't own the PS camera or a sound bar/sorround sound system so I can't really help there.

Here's a few TV's that an input lag website recommends for gaming: http://www.displaylag.com/best-hdtvs-gaming-2014-introduction/

Power A charging dock: http://www.amazon.com/DualShock-Controller-Charging-Station-PlayStation-4/dp/B00ENFVJJO

Edit: Target has the gold wireless headset for $40. The deal is for in store only.

This guy definitely knows what he's talking about. I personally rock the Superlux HD668B. The treble on them is a little high, but as your ears adjust to them, they sound excellent, especially for their $50 price tag. They beat out many $100-250 headphones.

However, the HD700s are some of the best headphones ever made, and will be good for pretty much anything; gaming, music, late-night movie watching, so if you're able to burn some money, definitely get those as they will likely be your go-to headphones for years to come.

Also, the headphone jack on the PS4 controller is pretty weak, not really meant to power great headphones, and it also uses Bluetooth which compresses the audio quality. If you have a home theater receiver connected, you can use that to plug your headphones into and it'll do you well. If not, I'd suggest getting a headphone amplifier. You can probably buy something like the Prozer DAC, which is remarkably cheap for it's quality. They have a $20 version as well, but headphones don't come anywhere near being able to hear that kind of fidelity (192 kHz, CD quality is 44.1 kHz), so it's really useless outside of maybe a studio where they have specialized gear for that sort of thing.

If you're going to be using headphones, you can get a cheap USB condenser mic, plug it into the PS4, and just set it near you on a table or something. The Samson GoMic is great, and very portable (about the size of a bite-sized Butterfinger candy-bar).

The headphones he listed though will absolutely get you where you need to go and a wide range of prices. And they all range from "damn good" to "excellent."

Of course, there are a plethora of "gaming" headphones, but most of them are junk because they cut a ton of corners on parts so they afford to put in "virtual surround sound", license Dolby, the microphone, and the software in the headphones to process/EQ the audio to bring you the sound "as intended" which is marketing bullshit, because the audio that comes out of the PS4 is what was intended, it doesn't need any additional processing. It's the same tactic Beats uses, and sadly, people fall for it. Gaming headphones, 99.999% of them, are just marketing scams with fancy buzzwords, really.

So yeah, TL;DR, grab the headphones you want, a headphone amp/DAC if you need, and a mic, and you'll have an audio setup that will blow most people's headphone setups away.

Edit: Fixed since I made this post on no sleep and there were some errors. lol

u/Hellraiser_Fanatic · 0 pointsr/PS4

My reply is certainly going to reak of "sony apologist/asshole". That is not my intention.

Your biggest problem with the DS4 is the battery life, and even though you play it 3 hours a day (based on your post) you can't be bothered to do something extremely easy to fix it? Charging the controller is easy to do man, just plug the thing in...how hard is that? It takes you less time to plug the controller in than it does for the PS4 to turn on!

In all seriousness I do agree with you on finding plugging things into the stupid cables every single time you touch them to be annoying. You know those memes about "I plugged in the usb cable...and it was facing the right way on the first try....winning!" That is a real thing. But why? Back in the day the only device commonly found in the house that was used every day that had a rechargeable battery was our home phone. These always had a desktop cradle charger. Can you imagine a cordless phone where you had to charge it by plugging it with a cord all the time? And let's not forget how shitty those nicad batteries were...I kid you not, there are people who made their fortune on selling those stupid things in a retail store, having to be replaced every 6 weeks, people buying the wrong ones, or heaven forbid if you had the audacity to not follow the impossible charge/discharge practices they recommended.

Thankfully, battery technology really improved, but unfortunately the GOOD thing about that era (the cradle charger) went the way of the dinosaur and for some reason (profit) companies stopped including them.

The cradle charger suddenly became a "premium" ie: overpriced accessory. I remember the last cellphone I purchased that came with a cradle charger. This was over 10 years ago, in the era before phones even had color screens.

What I'm trying to say here is a cradle charger is the way to go, and there are multiple options for PS4. Here are just a few:

This is the one I personally have. It works great! I have 3 controllers, and it comes with 2 of the little attachments that go on the controller to charge it. Nyko sent me another 2 for free when I asked them.

http://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Charge-Base-PlayStation-4/dp/B00FLLFJ68/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1422371016&sr=8-2&keywords=ps4+charger

This is another very popular one, it is very commonly recommended on reddit. It doesn't require any adapters to be connected to the DS4 since it uses the extension port to charge.

http://www.amazon.com/DualShock-Controller-Charging-Station-PlayStation-4/dp/B00ENFVJJO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1422371016&sr=8-1&keywords=ps4+charger&pebp=1422371073104&peasin=B00ENFVJJO

There are other options, but most of the other options work by the charger physically plugging in to the micro-usb port on the top of the controller and hanging from it, which seems problematic to me. The 1990's style cradle is where it's at! The Nyko one is the closest thing to that style. And no, the little adapters that let it dock do NOT interfere with the operation at all, it's very small and you don't even know it is connected. Because everyone asks this (completely unnecessarily, as every lithium ion based charger behaves this way) yes, it will automatically stop charging the controller when the battery is fully charged.

There's even another style that connects directly to the PS4, if you are wanting to keep the controllers near the PS4 itself. Although personally, I think it makes much more sense for the controllers to be stored where they are used...ya know, on the couch. But I literally have not touched my PS4 since I purchased it, since I am (obviously) one of those people who only buy digital games, because damn, why should I have to swap a disc just because I want to play a different game?

http://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Modular-Charge-Station-White-PlayStation/dp/B00MUTASR4/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1422371016&sr=8-13&keywords=ps4+charger

Why did I post all of this, especially with the assholery beginning? Because so many people just love to complain about every little thing they don't like, when there are a multitude of products available to make all their woes go away. Even if the DS4 had 24 hours of battery life, if they wanted to not buy a charger for it, they'd still be messing with that stupid USB charging cord eventually...which is a crime against humanity.

Spent $20, and you can be a smug asshole who is much happier in life, thanks to having one less usb cord to have to plug in.

(PS: If your phone supports wireless charging, buy a few of those chargers for your cellphone...and if it doesn't, make sure your next cellphone does!) The only time I plug my phone into ANYTHING is when I flash a new rom to it. Charging is as simple as setting it down on the charger, it synchronizes data (such as music/pictures) over wifi, and earphones are bluetooth. They call it a wireless phone...right?

Modern consumer electronics used without wires...will make you a happier person. Your thinning hair will grow back, your penis will become longer, your belly fat will get smaller, you will get a promotion at work without even asking for it, your children will do their chores without complaining, your mortgage company will approve your refinance, and you will get the bonus onion ring every time you purchase french fries.
Comcast will still give you shitty service...but hey, this new way of life can't work miracles or anything.

Do you have an Apple TV and an iPhone/iPad? Or an iPhone/iPad with an HDMI adapter? You can use the THX Tune Up app for an easy way to do basic calibration in a pinch. - http://www.thx.com/consumer/home-entertainment/mobile-apps/thx-tune-up-app-for-ios/

Otherwise check out Datacolor's Spyder4TV HD - http://spyder.datacolor.com/portfolio-view/spyder4tv-hd/

Or Disney's World of Wonder blu-ray calibration disc: http://www.amazon.com/Disney-WOW-World-Wonder-Blu-ray/dp/B0045ASBLG

Or, as Endymion86 said, google your TV model name and 'calibration.' If it's a popular model, you'll probably find people who've got good stats you can adjust your TV to.

Typically you'll want to turn off any feature that has an "On/Off" switch in the settings, in my experience.

Good luck. Calibrating a TV can really change your viewing experience for the better.

u/pizzaghoul · 2 pointsr/PS4

Yes, yes, and yes. They also make this controller that I used to make the jump in March. I very quickly got used to the newer one though, as I loved the kitchyness of the touchpad and the speaker and the motion aspects. Like, in Infamous: Second Son, you have to shake the controller and move it around to spray graffiti. Its so cool. But here is the controller that feels like the Xbox one: https://www.amazon.com/Horipad-FPS-Plus/dp/B0106XFCPI/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1498607773&sr=1-1&keywords=Horipad+fps

EDIT: Also, I literally sold my new PS4 and bought a Pro like a month after and the difference even on a non 4K tv is worth the extra hundo. The FPS improvements are night and day in some games.

u/ZebraMuffin · 3 pointsr/PS4

Yes, there are. Also yes, you're asking too much.

You're asking them to give you free money, when you're the one who should be paying them. Do you think if you went into a Best Buy to purchase a $60 game with $56(ignoring the sales tax you would also need to pay), that Best Buy would give you $4?

If you wouldn't expect it from Best Buy, why would you expect it from Sony? They're both trying to run a business, not a charity.

u/DaNewChamp · 2 pointsr/PS4

I know this is the same answer on every thread but Hyper X Cloud is gonna be the best. Comfort is top notch, only has 3.5mm so it works on pc, ps4, xbox, and mobile.

I got https://www.amazon.com/HyperX-Cloud-Gaming-Headset-Line/dp/B01MTLMV89/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1485283574&sr=8-8&keywords=hyperx+cloud

Has an inline cable to mute and turn volume up and down.

Also https://www.amazon.com/HyperX-Stinger-Headset-HX-HSCS-BK-NA/dp/B01L2ZRYVE/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1485283933&sr=8-4&keywords=gaming+headset

$50 USD and is also great, just mainly plastic but has volume slider on ear cup.

u/Freakysheikh · 1 pointr/PS4

It’s a little usb stick that lets you use a certain controller on a console. For me i have the Xbox elite controller but started to play more on the PS4 over the last year or so. I decided to use my elite and it works great just plug and play. Only issue is an update from Sony could break the compatibility. It rarely happens but it happened this time. The company is usually pretty quick about updating the software for the converter.

If you want to take a look

I have these installed. Love my Ds4 more than any controller since the Wavebird now I have these. I don't even use my other two DS4's, or won't until I get the other sticks shipped & installed! The concave is ideal for folks like me with bigger hands. The cool touch of the aluminum is great for intense gaming sessions.

I got a Samsung 40 inch which will replace my old RCA 1080 I've had since 2012. It's currently the best selling 4K set on Amazon and supports HDR as well. Plan is to sell my old TV for $150 or whatever I can get from Craigslist that way I'll end up spending only slightly under $300 on the 4K set because free Prime shipping and Amazon doesn't charge tax in my state.

Really eh. If the controller's all you like, get the Horipad FPS plus.

I prefer the xbox controller, but I don't hate the PS4 controller. It still feels nice imo, and has way better features. But if I could only recommend one console, I'd go with PS4 just because of all the exclusive titles that xbox lacks, especially if you're not into Halo or Gears.

u/bgoods1221 · 1 pointr/PS4

Nice!! Yeah man it works well. I've actually changed my set up since my last post. I now use a Magni 3 so I have my PS4's HDMI to TV and then TV's RCA out to the Magni 3 input. Then Magni to DT770s and separate ModMic directly to controller using one of these

This setup works great for me as I was having a little trouble using a usb dac/amp like I previously posted. For some reason, the usb wouldn't always recognize the mic..

Hope this helps!

So, I worked as an HDTV engineer for five years and can tell you about my experiences.

In order to achieve market differentiation and tv selling features, TVs (at least the ones from my company…) will ship with a bunch of image processing effects that, frankly, are gimmicks. Without "game mode" on input lag will be increased as the TV applies effects before displaying the image. (It should be noted that no HD signals--including those produced by games--are engineered anticipating to be processed a second time by another device. They expect just being displayed on a well-calibrated display without any other processing.)

My two cents: if you're concerned about image quality, start with a really good calibration disc (like http://www.amazon.com/Disney-WOW-World-Wonder-Blu-ray/dp/B0045ASBLG/) with game mode set to on. At the conclusion, the image displayed will be the closest match your tv can produce to what the content creator intended AND with the smallest amount of input lag. If you don't like it, turn game mode off and play knowing you've made an informed decision and explored your options fully. :)

Edit: game mode doesn't affect 60fps--you're still going to get 60 (or more, if you have a tv that adds frames to simulate faster refresh…) frames either way, but with it on, the time that the PS4 produces the image to the time it shows up on your screen very well may be increased. And I game with game mode on. In answer to your questions, which I forgot in my original reply. :)

None of which might fit great now that the rubber on your controller is actually falling apart. Might require some hot glue or something else if you want them to stay in place.

A lot of people eventually switch to xbox style sticks, not just because the material doesn't fall apart but because it's actually a much better design. These compared to the DS4 sticks is night and day in terms of control and your thumb not sliding all over the place.

http://www.amazon.com/GAMING%C2%AE-Original-Xbox-Controller-Analogue-Thumbsticks/dp/B00JQX91HU/

Not that hard to install. Hardest thing about taking the controller apart is getting the shell separated for the first time and the fact that the triggers and springs might fall out, so just work on a clean table where you'll be able to find the little springs. Watch videos on how to take it apart.

u/madethistopost · 1 pointr/PS4

A little off topic, but get one of these. It will help you calibrate your new TV and get the most out of the picture. I did it with my TV and the difference is huge. This is one of the best calibration discs available that you can get without a professional doing the calibration.

u/Jrrolomon · 2 pointsr/PS4

I have the 60" version of this TV and love it. One criticism is that if you are sitting to the side the color can appear washed out, but sitting straight in front of the TV it looks great.

I linked the 40" version if that's the size you're after. It also has HDR.

This is the hard drive that I swapped into my PS4. I chose this one over some of the older 2tb drives for two reasons.

  1. To me at least, the Hybrid part does make a slight difference because the way it works is that it recognizes the files that are used most often and switches them over to that to increase load time, a slight improvement but it is noticeable with certain games.

  2. My new drive is 7200 rpm and not 5400 rpm. That was the big difference, i have seen much faster load times in games like destiny, tomb raider, and other games that have a lot of loading time.

If you are just going for space then get the 2tb but if you want some extra speed, go for the hyrbid.

I've only filed about half of my hard drive with every free game for ps plus and about a dozen physical games.

u/pixelpushing · 4 pointsr/PS4

That's not actually an SSD, it's a SSD/HDD hybrid. These types of drives have negligible benefits for load time over a 7200rpm HDD and provide no benefit in terms in actual game performance.

You'd be better off purchasing a cheaper 1TB 7200rpm HDD like this one.

If you aren't bother about saving an extra second or two on load time you could pick up a 5400 rpm drive even cheaper (this is the speed of the default PS4 HDD).

If you want to hear footsteps get the Game One*, they're open backed so you get a better soundstage which is exactly what you need for positioning footsteps.

From what I read make sure you get the 50 Ohm version as the 150 Ohm version you wouldn't be able to drive very well via the controller, but all new versions are the 50 Ohm so you should be fine. I'm not sure how the cable is but if it's a split microphone and headphone jack (which I assume it is seeing as this is in the frequently bought together thing) you'll need to get this: http://amzn.com/B00IM36VU0

Right now I'm between the HyperX Cloud Stinger and the PlayStation Gold Wireless. Has anyone gotten a chance to use either of these that can speak to the quality? The Ps4 controller is probably the best controller Sony has ever made (despite the battery life). It won't take long for you to adjust to it, and the shoulder buttons are superior to the Xbox One's.

As for adapters, I don't believe any exist. The PS4 uses Bluetooth technology, while the Xbox uses radio.

calibration settings aren't an objective thing, they vary based on your model and environmental conditions. using simple calibration patterns and tuning even just brightness/contrast and saturation will yield better, more accurate results than copying values.

I haven't had any controllers completely break on me (bought two on day 1 release and one additional controller a few months later), but I have had to take them apart several times to clean them. The only adjustment I have done is replace the stock thumb grips with metal thumb grips (link). I usually try to clean the connectors and buttons with alcohol once or twice a year. I would also suggest replacing/upgrading the battery and possibly buying new springs for L2/R2.

If his acct is set as primary in your console and you buy Destiny with your acct, he won't have access to the game because Destiny is in your acct and he is the one gamesharing with you. If you buy the game with your friend's acct, then both of you will have access to Destiny.

As a general recommendation, if you want to buy a game for the both of you, you better buy it with your friend's acct. Just buy a PSN prepaid card, give him the code and ask him to buy the game.

TL;DR just buy Destiny and the DLCs with your friends acct and the both of you will have access to his entire game library and to Destiny and its DLCs. games in your game library won't be avail to him.

I don't agree. The only 1TB 7200rpm I can find from New Egg is this one, and it's $270, more then twice the price of the 1TB SSHD. [EDIT: Found this one for $86 at Amazon]Maybe it's worth it if you constantly switching games, but I think that's it's a small sample of players who do that (mostly, players who are constantly playing different games, and people with PS4's constantly being used by more then one player).

As well, it depends on the size of the SSD portion - you are likely to need around 50GB of SSD for a single game. If the SSD portion was around 100GB, then you could keep two PS4 games in the SSD portion, for quick loading of two games at a time (not including other file usage and PS4 bootup files).

http://www.amazon.com/Custom-Thumbsticks-Analogue-Controllers-Playstation-4/dp/B00K23LKK4

they're shorter than the x1 thumbsticks, don't rub and look friggin fantastic.

You can cancel right away, by going to Audible.com and going through the cancellation process that is like 3-4 clicks. You will get a $10 credit on Amazon that I use, and you can to get a $10 PSN card digitally - https://www.amazon.com/10-PlayStation-Store-Gift-Card/dp/B00GAC1D2G/ref=sr_1_2?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1467921884&sr=1-2&keywords=psn

u/bottyliscious · 0 pointsr/PS4

I mean, right now on Amazon you can get a 4K Samsung 40" for $427 shipped.

If we take it a step further and look at [CamelCamelCamel] (http://camelcamelcamel.com/Samsung-UN40KU6300-40-Inch-Ultra-Smart/product/B01DUTL4OI) you can see that this price is the current bottom, but I think by the holidays the prices are going to fall through the current floor.

EDIT: Clarification, I don't pay Amazon tax directly since I live in a tax-free state.

u/HalcyonSin · 1 pointr/PS4

If you buy a Bluetooth connector on Amazon you can just use the mic that is in your beats. I believe the Avantree Leaf is a popular choice.

u/FelixaLaCarte · 1 pointr/PS4

From researching, some good quality headsets that are $50 or less would be the HyperX Cloud Stinger, Skullcandy SLYR, or the Logitech G430

u/Aetyrno · 1 pointr/PS4

I can't help with the address issues, that will depend on your card company and whether they reject it based on an incorrect billing address or not...

To add something to the people saying to use amazon, use smile.amazon.com. It's still Amazon, but a small portion of the proceeds go to a charity of your choice. Doesn't cost you anything extra, it's just a donation made from Amazon's end.

u/Kamykazi · 4 pointsr/PS4

Nobody has mentioned this one yet? http://www.amazon.com/HGST-Travelstar-2-5-Inch-Internal-0J22423/dp/B00B4QESVQ

As far as I can't tell it is the only 2.5" 7200rpm 1tb available and has very good reviews.

u/hhhealthy · 1 pointr/PS4

yup. i've grabbed this multiple times (they sell a 4x pack too http://www.amazon.com/Original-Black-Xbox-Controller-Analogue-Thumbsticks/dp/B00JQX91HU)

i've converted 6 controllers so far for myself and friends and these are the go-to sticks.

I bookmarked this one to buy after pay day, looks pretty solid. There are bigger versions but the price goes up (obviously)

u/I_am_a_bear_AMA_ · 3 pointsr/PS4

It's fabulous. Hibernation is greatly underrated.

The sticks I bought cost more than I remember... I'm not sure if they went up or I can't math.

Here's the link anyway. (I'm on mobile so I hope it works.)

There's a new version of those, here. Have them and switching from using them with the PS3 to my PC is as easy as switching the USB wireless receiver, it installs the necessary drivers automatically.

If you can't get used to the pad try this, I have one myself only real con is there is no rumble function or headset input, otherwise its a great pad

u/satona · 1 pointr/PS4

I have the Nyko station, which is great. http://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Charge-Base-PlayStation-4/dp/B00FLLFJ68/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1412059681&sr=8-1

It has charging indicator lights and comes with dongles you leave plugged into the controllers, so all you need to do is just drop them in to the charging station, you don't press them in or anything.

u/The_Evil_Potatoe · 1 pointr/PS4

If your headset does have 2 connectors, you can buy an adapter which will allow it to work. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IM36VU0/ref=oh_details_o07_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I use that adapter with my Sennhesier PC360, and it works flawlessly.

You need something like this Link

u/WhySoBoring · 1 pointr/PS4

I bought this and works perfectly with my airpods. You can change it from just audio to voice chat with just a button. Haven’t had any problems so far.

100% recommend Hyperx cloud stinger, wait for a deal i was able to get $20 off
https://www.amazon.com/HyperX-Cloud-Stinger-Gaming-Headset/dp/B01L2ZRYVE

u/jaseofbase · 2 pointsr/PS4

I'm using the HyperX Cloud Stinger. Very light and comfy, a short wire that plugs into the controller, on headset volume control, and flip up the mic for mute made it perfect for me. Decent price at $50, but I got them on sale during Black Friday for $35.

u/Fuzzy_Dan · 2 pointsr/PS4

Metal Thumbsticks. Bro.... just buy these. Dead easy to replace and they're a million times better than the originals. I've replaced the thumbsticks on all 3 of my controllers and it's the best.

My Controllers Sorry for the poor quality photo

u/SinisterRecette · 1 pointr/PS4

Could be something wrong with the cable or plug. I use a Y adapter for my ATH-M50x headphones and an inline mic and it works perfectly on my DS4.
https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-PCV-05-Combo-Adapter/dp/B00IM36VU0

u/cynicalfx · 2 pointsr/PS4

Yup you can use Amazon

In fact you can just use Amazon to buy the 1 month membership code outright instead of buying a PSN card and then purchasing the 1 month on the PSN store. Here is the link for the 1 month card.

u/cantfadethis · 0 pointsr/PS4

Mind if I ask where you're seeing it for $20?

edit: nvm, found it here on amazon.

double edit: just saw OP's link, canceled my amazon order and got it from there, got the code right away.

This is the official one: https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Store-Gift-Card-Digital/dp/B00GAC1D2G, it says [Digital Code] on the title.

Here is the link to buy digital amazon egift cards if it doesn't let you buy the PSN code with a random US address https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07TMNGSN4 (i used this method a month ago to buy some PSN codes).

This thingy on amazon might do it It's a standalone USB audio to Bluetooth transmitter. The PS4 should see it the same way it sees the USB dongle for the PlayStation Wireless Headsets.

u/turdlop · 2 pointsr/PS4

I use the $50 Hori FPS Plus. The right and left triggers behave strangely in some games, both GTA and Red Dead I use dualshock 4 because the aiming and shooting doesn't work properly on the Hori. But other than that it's easily my favorite 3rd party controller that I've used.

u/mmiski · 1 pointr/PS4

This is the only 3rd party controller for the PS4 that I know of. The added complexity of current gen controllers (touchpad, lightbar, built-in speaker, etc.) made producing affordable third party options more difficult I think.

I personally haven't had any issues with the stock DS4 controller. I think there was maybe one time around launch when I felt discomfort with it. And that was from a binge gaming session with Battlefield 4. But after turning the vibration feature off I never experienced it again (it also improved the battery life dramatically).

u/DITC01 · 0 pointsr/PS4

If you want to go the headphone route, Audio Technicas and Astro's Mixamp Pro.

u/assbread · 1 pointr/PS4

they're uncommon, probably for the reasons /u/cstrife991 stated.

there are a handful more tailored to 6 button fighting games, and there's this which isn't really cheap enough to justify getting it over the regular ds4. that's pretty much the problem, there isn't a good way for 3rd parties to include all the features of the DS4 and produce it cheaply enough to be relevant.

u/gobongo · 4 pointsr/PS4

You can actually just use the Xbox Elite controller directly on the PS4 using an adapter like this:

https://amazon.com/Gam3Gear-PS4-Converter-Gaming-Adapter-Keychain/dp/B01GDVGQ48

There are other options like the ChronusMax, but the Brooks one is the one I use (can vouch for it, unlike the others) and it works really well, no noticeable lag. The only semi-complaints I have about it are that the Xbox One has no touchpad so you're boned for any game that requires that (though it does emulate a generic touchpad press if you press the 'select' button on the xbox, so for games like Destiny that use the touchpad as one big button it is fine) and also you have to use it wired via USB.

Would buy a real Sony pro controller if they made one of similar quality, just to get that 100% compatibility and wireless functionality...

u/dvd_sandwich · 9 pointsr/PS4

The Pulse Elite headset will work with all three.
It will work wirelessly (with the usb dongle) on PS3 and PC. It won't work wirelessly with PS4 at launch, but they will put out an update to add compatibility. While waiting for the update, you can plug the headset into the controller with the included cable.

u/jscar · 2 pointsr/PS4

Sony Pulse Elites. I've been trying to decide between these and the Golds.
