Going out on a limb.

The E1000/street is just vastly superior when it comes down to my needs. I've always hated the overall design of the later PSPs, especially with the glossy fingerprint-infested surfaces, The black-silver-black "sandwich" look and the transparent L/R triggers doesn't help either.

Its part of why I love the E1000, The matte finish and the all-black monolithic aesthetic is just so well done imo. Though it has similar bulkiness of the 1000, Its also slightly lighter and feels more natural held in hand (8oz) compered to the 1000 (10oz) & 2000/3000 (6.5oz) with the same reasons as OP. There's no noticeable ghosting even when playing gameboy games on an emulator and the horrible interlacing issues from the 3000 are gone, so I'd say the screen is on par with the Go but larger.

The mono speaker and other gimped features of the E1000 doesn't phase me, as I always use earphones anyway and my brand new Vita Slim already fulfills those other roles. My E1000 is my go-to device for playing psp games released only on UMD, ps1 games not on psn, Homebrew, and as my main emulation station.

Now I would of kept my PSP-Go for all that as well, but the big turn off for me was its proprietary memory stick that only goes up to 16gb, that plus its internal memory is only 32gb. That's not enough for me. In my E1000 is a PhotoFast MS Pro Duo Dual Slot adapter with two 64 GB microSDXC cards totaling up to 118gb of glorious free space in my PSP E1000.

Join the master race, get an E1000.

edit: Yup, thought so.

how did you increase the memory to 256gb?

Lol i actually found one of your threads on it. I'm curious when people say to format it, but am finding some posts stating you shouldn't format the sd cards on their own. I noticed someone said it's better to format the disks on their own because the psp will tremendously limit the amount of space you'll get. So how should I format it? And what to? are there any particular microsd cards I should purchase?

EDIT:

I found this explanation, let me know if it's missing anything:
https://www.reddit.com/r/PSP/comments/18s3yu/32_gb_microsd_card_with_adapter_not_formatting_on/c8hkghn

Would this work:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B6DYDZS/ref=pd_cp_107_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=2N0EZ57B9FPH7ZV70TSH

and with this (I actually found like a couple unopened boxes laying around in the house but I'm unsure if psp's require certain sd cards or not):

https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-microSDHC-Standard-Packaging-SDSQUNC-032G-GN6MA/dp/B010Q57T02/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1474339677&sr=8-1&keywords=sandisk+ultra+micro+32

Finally...which cfw should I get? the latest 6.61? I ended up getting a psp 2000 for free from a friend

u/Breadland · 3 pointsr/PSP

It shouldn't bee too hard. There's plenty of PSP Go replacement screens on Aliexpress. Last time I checked they cost $10-15.

If you're in the US, there's this $13 PSP Go screen with free Prime shipping

https://www.amazon.com/LCD-Screen-Display-Backlight-PSP/dp/B00541YO0M

It is a bit annoying though, since you have to take the whole thing apart to get to the screen, but it's doable and way easier than any modern smartphone. It shouldn't take you too long. Just take things slowly and put your screws in places that you can remember them. All you need is a small Philips screwdriver, plus tweezers and a plastic spudger if you want an easier time putting it back together.

Here's a nice guide I used. The guy goes pretty slowly, so it's easy to follow, and he doesn't skip the reassembly.

UPDATE:

These new SONY OEM batteries come in a snap pack rather than a blister pack, which means that theoretically someone could swap out the original battery and put another one in there. That said, the battery that came to me looked to be BRAND NEW and manufactured by SONY. The battery was cosmetically perfect. It was not bloated at all and fit into the battery casing in the PSP easily. Since these batteries are not sealed in a blister pack they are exposed to oxygen and could potentially become puffy. The one that I got was not.

Once installed in my PSP, I put it charging. I checked in on it after a little more than half an hour had passed and the red light was still on. This was another good sign. These shitty things are fully charged after 30 minutes. Which means their capacity is waaaaaaaay below what it should be. I left my PSP charging and checked in again after 3 hours or so. At that time the battery was fully charged.

I then unplugged the PSP, loaded up a UMD, and turned the machine on. I checked the battery information before firing up the game. It said that the battery was 100% charged and had an operation time of 7 hours. I then started the UMD. I played for 10 minutes with screen brightness at a medium level and sound through speakers at about 50% volume. After the 10 minutes I stopped the game and went back to the home screen to check the battery life. It was listed at 99% with 6 hours and 40 minutes of life left. Obviously, it wasn't going to last the 7 predicted hours and dropping 20 minutes off that estimate for 10 minutes of game play actually felt about right. The estimates when the battery is in full charge or close to it are always optimistic. If I got 5 hours out of the battery, I would be happy. At the very worst I would expect 3 and a half by this calculation rate.

The real test will come tomorrow to see how well it holds a charge overnight. I will play with it some more today and see how well the battery is doing tomorrow. Overall, I am quite happy so far. The battery is as advertised and appears not only to be an original SONY battery, but seems to hold a charge well. I would say if you are on the fence about these, that they are worth it.

Here's the blow-by-blow:

  • There's a great modding guide over in the sidebar. It takes you through getting the most common custom firmwares onto any PSP device, and it's literally a ten minute job, if that.
  • Everyone will give a different answer for batteries. Generally, most aftermarket batteries are terrible, so some recommend hunting down original ones - but you have no idea what sort of condition they'll be in at this point. Another option is removing the UMD drive and installing a LiPo in the void left behind, but that can be a bit intensive, and not everyone wants to lose UMD capability. You can also - with great care - dissect an original battery and install a new cell. Personally, I just picked up a 1200mAh Cameron Sino battery from Amazon two months ago and it seems to be holding up well.
  • Don't bother with overpriced Memory Duo cards - just get a Micro SD to Memory Pro Duo adapter. It's a lot cheaper and you can get higher capacity cards.
  • I've never used a Pandora battery, so I'll leave that to someone else. I don't think you need them now, though.
u/JoeyBlaze · 3 pointsr/PSP

I just recently got one from Ebay, you can try there. I'm sure the preowned from Gamestop are fine as well.

As far as memory..my recommendation is to pick up (2) of these http://www.amazon.com/Sandisk-16GB-MicroSDHC-Memory-Class/dp/B001F7AJKI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1334935355&sr=8-1
and (1) of these http://www.amazon.com/MicroSD-MicroSDHC-Adapter-Converts-Cards/dp/B001RPEJA4/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1334935402&sr=1-1
this will work great in the PSP 3000 and will save you alot of money as compared to just getting a 32gb pro duo card.

u/Its__Cris · 1 pointr/PSP

Good Battery replacements are hard to find. I purchased one of these and it works amazing. You just can't see what percentage the charge is at since the PSP will recognize it as an external power source. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FBM4UQW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_oMAxCbTC5QYK7

As for chargers, I had purchased an Insten charger on Amazon. It came with a battery and a charger. Purchased 2 since the price was like 11$. Both batteries were absolute trash and shorted within minutes. But I gotta say that their chargers have worked really well for me.

Get something like this, and a 32GB microSDHC card. I've used cards of virtually every size and speed from 2GB to 32GB in the adapter, so it should work just fine for you. I don't know if microSDXC cards will work in it though.

If you really need 64GB (like what I currently have), you can get a Photofast CR-5400, which lets you use 2 microSDHC cards as 1 big drive. I've got 64GB in my PSP3000, and it's fast enough to play movies, games, and music with no problem.

Note: When you buy a microSD (or microSDHC) card, make sure it's the fastest one you can buy. You'll often see a circle with a number written inside of it, that's it's "Class" number. I'm using 2x 32GB class 10 cards. The faster your card is, the better it's read/write speed is, so you don't have to wait super long to write game saves and stuff.

u/mikeyseed · 1 pointr/PSP

Did you purchase one that was fulfilled by Amazon? Almost all of the ones available on Amazon.ca are fulfilled by Chinese sellers and ship from China (which takes 20+ business days to ship). Since my last one was lost in the mail I'm considering spending a bit more and getting this one since it's fulfilled through Amazon and I won't have to wait forever (and it probably won't get lost in the mail). I can always use the extra Microsd card for my tablet.

u/jonosaurus · 1 pointr/PSP

well, they're just super expensive. here's an 8gb psp go memory card for 19 dollars. however, here's a 32gb memory card for the regular psp for about the same price, using two micro sd cards, meaning it's also upgradable. i recommend getting a used psp 2000 or 3000, personally.

Can't really give a full recommendation yet since I haven't had time to really experience it to see if it's a good shell or not. But damn it's beautiful.

u/zandengoff · 1 pointr/PSP

Not if you have a PSP 1000.

If you have a PSP 2000 or 3000, you can use the official component cables.

http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Computer-Entertainment-PSP-2000-Cable-PlayStation/dp/B000VIPJ0W

If you have a PSP Go you will need a different set of component cables.

http://www.amazon.com/PSPgo-Component-AV-Cable-Sony-PSP/dp/B002LH4UB0

You get the added bonus of being able to use the PS3 controller for a more "console like" experience.

http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-play-yout-PSP-Go-with-a-PS3-controller/

Do note that video out preserves the aspect ratio and resolution of the PSP and will cause significant black bars on screen. I deal with it fine, but it turns off quite a few people. This can be stretched if your TV supports it.

I know you've put in a lot of effort on getting your current set up to work. But there's a component cable for the PSP go that was made by sony. That would be a pretty easy solution..

u/ps_vita · 1 pointr/PSP

I have a set that I bought from amazon for $10, and I use them frequently. I would not have paid $25 for them, but I do like them enough that I still use them to this day. Purely for video playback though, not games. definitely makes UMDs look better.

u/Ben0ut · 2 pointsr/PSP

I'm having this problem at the minute with a 3rd party battery I've purchased recently and used just once. I picked up a 3rd party as the official small psp batteries seem to have a poor shelf life and wanted to find a good alternative. I am currently awaiting a reply from the seller (they have until the end of today).

My battery, when put on charge, takes just a few minutes before the orange light disappears. However it will not switch on unless the mains lead is connected to the wall. When on the home screen I can see the battery icon flip from being shown to being hidden. Clearly it's a battery issue - my other battery works fine for charging and using.

The link below shows the battery I purchased just in case anyone wants to know.

Not that I know of, dude. If I had an extra battery I would send it over to you but they are hard to come by in good reasonable working order. I can link you to a dirt cheap one that will at least work for the most part!

Micro SD make sure its not SDXC, and not larger than 64gb. otherwise some adapters does not read. not to mention if its SDXC then you will have to change the memory format to Fat32.

so I suggest dual slot incase you need more room. and also get 16-32gb Micro sd Class 10 U1 SDHC. because some 64gb comes in SDXC which in some cases you need to format it.

and some people buy whatever they find and plug and play with no issues.

however the following works with 0 issues

I use this Kingston 32gb

my friend uses Samsung 32gb

u/7Votorious420 · 2 pointsr/PSP

Alcohol wipes and vigorous but precise scrubbing on the joystick will remove the finger grim. I have a white PSPgo so it's far more noticeable.

If you've owned a older PSP or just needing a case here's one of those slider pouch ones, it doesn't come with that white strap but the case is nice and the strap is just generic.

https://www.amazon.com/Generic-Protector-Pouch-Strap-Compatible-N1000/dp/B00FBM631C

The cradle is only good at being a charger while playing on your TV. You will also need a PSP 1000-3000 charger and i don't think it comes with component cables and it's around $85-$100.

u/tvoretz · 1 pointr/PSP

Copy the entire contents of your memory card to your PC, replace the old memory card with the new, larger one, and copy the contents to the new one. Done!

Edit: if you're looking for advice on picking a memory card, I recommend a single slot micro SD to MS Pro Duo adapter in conjunction with a micro SD card of a reputable brand. If you're located in the US, you can get a 32 GB Samsung card for $10 or a 64 GB SanDisk card for $15 via Amazon, and I'm sure you can find reasonably priced cards at Wal-Mart or the like. (There are dual slot MS Pro Duo adapters available, which let you combine two micro SD cards into a single, higher capacity card, but they're more finicky than the single slot adapters. I don't specifically recommend against them; lots of people use them with minimal to no issue. They're just cheap enough that you can wait until you need to combine two cards to purchase a dual slot adapter. Better to get maximum reliability in the short term, IMO.)

I have a pretty cool little case for mine, it has enough room for the psp and the charger, and a little bit of fluff to keep the psp safe. It also has a zipper at the top where I put my games. I got it with my psp, so I cant find the exact one I have, but this one looks similar https://www.amazon.com/Orzly%C2%AE-Consoles-Compartments-Accessories-Shoulder/dp/B01GG9MUXI/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=PsP+bag&qid=1570467189&sr=8-2

Would this one work in a normal PSP battery instead https://smile.amazon.com/uxcell-2000mAh-Rechargeable-Lithium-Polymer/dp/B0798H3762/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1518610129&sr=8-13&keywords=lithium+ion+polymer+2000mah

It is still 2000mAh instead of 1200mAh the thickness is 6.5mm instead of 6mm like the one you posted, but maybe it would fit?

Edit: I will be finding out, won't get here til tuesday, There was a piece of plastic inside the battery case that was about .5mm so I am hoping that will account for the extra space needed if I omit it in the rebuild.

You could get a knock off for like a dollar at aliexpress

  1. There is no downside to using bigger storage. Storage size is indepedent of read/write speeds

  2. Not sure about this, I haven't tried yet

  3. The biggest capacity for the PSP is 32GB

If you are looking for a good microSD with adaptor all included I bough this recently and I am very happy with it.

Google the dimensions of the battery, & specs. Then google around until you find something more powerful / same size. That's what I'd do.

Can try this

I like to use these if just carrying a PSP around in my pocket or workbag: https://www.amazon.com/Sony-PSP-System-Pouch/dp/B00B8WPEE6

I also use them for my Vita's too.

If you need a heavy duty case I use these both both PSP and Vita:

I have 32 GB and I found myself playing maybe 2 or 3 games at any given time.

SD cards are cheap enough though that there's little point to getting a tiny SD card and having to pull your card in and out every time you want to play something different.

Smaller cards are also ridiculously expensive for what you're getting. A 32 GB Sandisk costs $10.59 or $0.33/GB. An 8 GB Sandisk costs $7.08 or $0.88/GB. You're paying 50% more for a 300% increase in capacity. It's a no brainer.

u/ragequick10 · 1 pointr/PSP

That micro sd card comes with an adapter for sd cards. You want an adapter for memory stick pro duo cards. Something like https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00EJWVNLK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

You can get a converter box to then go to HDMI if that's all your display has.

You would need to buy a TV component out cable, a USB video capture device for your MacBook (can't help ya there) and probably some video editing software to crop out the black borders.

(Be aware different PSPs have different ports for TV out, the one above only works on 2000)
