You could try using a front clip harness which will tend to turn the dog around when he pulls. I've heard that Canny Collars can be effective, but I've always worried my dog could hurt her neck if she sprinted for a squirrel while wearing one.

We’ve never had an issue using a harness with our 1 year old pit. She wears a collar with her tags at all times, but we use a harness for walks and the park.

I really dislike them. I would recommend a nose leash style for calmness while walking. Watch some YouTube videos on how to safely use them and no harm will come to your pup and you'll notice an immediate change in walking behaviour!

The whole thing about owning a pit bull is knowing that they are aggressive by nature. You're supposed to be prepared for them to get in a fight.
