Hey there. I'm a graduate of Pitt's BSN program. Just a tip; you really don't need almost any of the books which are advertised. In my opinion, the only ones worth getting will be your anatomy textbook, the chem workbook, and the critical care textbook which should be much later on in the program. I would also get Saunder's NCLEX review book and review relevant info for each exam. Nursing exams take some getting used to, and the Saunder's book will accelerate that. Eventually if you're looking for something more advanced, PASS! CCRN is one of the best critical care references money can buy

I honestly just studied straight from the slides and referenced wikipedia for things which I didn't understand. Medicine on wikipedia is pretty high quality. I still do the same thing in the Anesthesia program. There's also tons of books on HSLS and you can find pretty much everything on there. Save your money for food and beer :)

Mattress protector/encasement: Hypoallergenic bag to seal bed bugs, dust mites, and spills in/out of mattress. https://www.amazon.com/Encasement-Waterproof-Hypoallergenic-Breathable-Protector/dp/B00Z06F2OI/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=Mattress+protector&qid=1562627220&s=gateway&sr=8-4

Mattress topper: Egg crate or gel foam that is placed on top of the mattress for extra comfort. https://www.amazon.com/Memory-Foam-Topper-Mattress-Sleep/dp/B01GICXDN4/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=Mattress+topper+twin+xl&qid=1562627405&s=gateway&sr=8-6

Mattress pad: Lightly padded/quilted but otherwise similar to a fitted sheet, placed below sheets to protect mattress & hold everything together. (Kinda like underwear for your mattress.) https://www.amazon.com/Gilbin-College-Quilted-Mattress-Polyester/dp/B00MGWK06E/ref=sr_1_9?crid=HBFAAZPF1KD5&keywords=mattress+pad+twin+xl&qid=1562627643&s=gateway&sprefix=Mattress+pad+er+twin+xl%2Caps%2C146&sr=8-9

Mattress protectors are a good idea if you have dust mite allergies, or have concerns about the cleanliness of the mattress. Topper is good if you are used to a plush pillow-top type mattress or find the mattress too firm. Mattress pad is really useful if you are using one of the other two things, or to add a little buffer if the mattress material is plastic or rough.

ETA: You can find combo protector/pads, topper/pads, etc. too. So many options.

Windows laptop: ASUS Zenbook UX305UA 13.3-Inch Laptop (6th Generation Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM, 256 GB SSD, Windows 10), Titanium Gold https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BMERZJ6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_EUNpxbVK8FWRH

Mac: Whatever their latest 13 inch is.

13 is a nice sweet spot for screen size and portability. Asus is nice for price, and the zenbook line comes with a free year of accidental damage warranty, which is what makes it top pick for my recommendation to students. My brother got a core M version, so less powerful, little cheaper, but does everything he needs. Macs are Macs. No gaming on either really, if you care. 1080/full HD is generally fine on a 13 inch, and saves on battery vs high res.

Dell XPS 13s are going for a decent price now too. I have a high end developer edition (Linux) and really like its form factor and power. The normal line comes with Windows of course. Going with an i5 w/ 8 gigs of RAM should be fine for any work you're doing.

I studied Esperanto before coming to Pitt and was disappointed that there are no clubs in the area (I looked).

It's been a very long time since I've studied Esperanto, but "Ja mi povas paroli gxin, aux, almenaux, mi povos paroli gxin denove"

I won't be here this summer, but if I'm here next year we should see about getting together and practicing. My book of choice, that I still love quite strongly is this one http://www.amazon.com/Esperanto-Teach-Yourself-Revised-Edition/dp/0844237639. You can find the most recent edition's pdf online somewhere <.<

I imagine you're a freshman?

If you're interested, you should PM me your facebook or pitt e-mail :p

Instead of blocking the noise, you may want to try covering it up. This is usually much easier. I know a guy who used a Brown Noise Generator in the dorms. You can buy a dedicated one, or just get something like this. A more low tech solution would be to put something noisy like a fan on for background noise. If that's not enough, you could also supplement it with a sound dampening sleep mask. This is a highly regarded one.

Edit: In case you are wondering, brown noise is a low pitched hum that is supposed to make good background noise. Here is an example

Please attach this to your underwhelming diploma after framing with a nice mat border: https://www.amazon.com/szminiled-Battery-Powered-Waterproof-Flexible/dp/B012F1EMTG

People still shop at Sears???

FYI The newer model D3300 plus kit lens is $399. The D3200 is going for $350 on Amazon, not $399.

Honestly I'd rather buy new from Amazon or Nikon (which has it for less refurb + warranty).

I bought my diploma frame for $20 on Amazon. It looks really nice IMO.

for the windows, I recommend this: http://www.amazon.com/3M-Indoor-Window-Insulator-5-Window/dp/B00002NCJI you can find similar ones at Home Depot or Lowes.

Nice, but not a dogwood Pic

Use this. Filled them up multiple times. Tuck it in your shirt/pant leg, and you're good to go. I haven't ever had any difficulty.

Couldn't agree more. Had issues last year, then got this modem and this router and have been flying ever since. Spending $90 may seem steep, but you pay monthly to rent it anyways.

Hell, you can even by window locks on amazon for dirt cheap if your landlord is lazy enough to not repair the latches themselves.

Crazy easy to put on (like, you just screw it to the frame where the window slides and it blocks the window from opening), slightly more aesthetically pleasing than a 2x4
