If you're really going out for awhile, consider a camelback instead of water bottles. Easier to access, and it serves double duty as your bag. LA Police Gear has some nice options that are more budget friendly than the brick-and-mortar sporting goods stores

On the topic of bags, you're probably not carrying a ton of weight, but a decent backpack will distribute that load better than a messenger bag. That's a good thing, in the long run.

Proper shoes make a world of difference if you're walking more than a couple miles. Not just blisters, but sore shins, knees, etc. Basically, you're hiking, with a phone. Treat it like that, and use the same lessons.

Depending on your area, I would add bug spray. This is the one I like. Comes in multiple sizes, but uses a different active ingredient than most sprays. I've used it while wading miles through literal swamps during the height of mosquito season and come through fine, which is remarkable. Doesn't seem to help with hornets, though.

I'd argue that a first aid kit should be higher on the list, considering how many novice hikers staring at their phones this game will have. Blister treatment is a must-add.

I like that you included defensive options, but you must also include situational awareness. Pepper spray does you no good if it's at the bottom of your bag and someone strolls up behind you while you're staring at your phone. Some brief thoughts on options: Pepper spray is good, but it's not so fun indoors. Also, if you can get a trainer (no capsaicin) to practice with, do it. It's not completely intuitive. There is a big difference between a Taser (shoots barbs at a distance, can continually shock) and a contact stun gun (requires being pressed into a person, and stops the pain as soon as it loses contact). I think the former is great and the latter kinda blows. Knives are not an advisable defensive option, and neither are those pseudo-brass knuckle doohickeys. Guns are great when carried legally, but I'd rather not get into those politics here.

I live in northern New England, USA. It's cold here, too. I'm 47, and getting arthritis in my hands quite young. I've always just ignored it, but this winter, maybe because I've been out so much playing Pokemon Go, my hands have been aching a lot. I just bought these gloves: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0014WXCYY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1 They came today, and I've been wearing them a few hours. My aches are all gone, and my hands have been pleasantly toasty. (I've just been inside, though.) I don't know if they'd work for Raynaud's, but I was planning to wear them under my gloves/mittens. And yes, definitely get a stylus! I use one with replaceable tips and it's been great. Maybe with a stylus + good gloves + something like my arthritis gloves you'll be able to play like you want? Gloves good enough to hike or ski in should work...

First thing reboot your phone.

While it's rebooting check the battery in the go plus. I've had a "new" battery be dead. I used a cheap multimeter I've had for years.

After the reboot go into the settings of pokemon go and "eject" the go plus.

Close pokemon go.

Turn Bluetooth on then reopen the app

Reconnect the go plus inside the pokemon go app. Of it's still having issue open the Bluetooth settings and see if you can see the go plus in there.

If you see it in the Bluetooth settings force close pokemon go. Might have to clear the cache or uninstall then reinstall. Redo the steps again.

If you can't and you're sure the battery is good call for a warranty on it. They are serious on the warranty date from what I heard.

Below is the official support page.

Good luck. Also Amazon sells Energizer batteries at a good price for ten of them usually. Go for those, the cheap batteries last half as long as the Energizers. I get a week to a week and a half on one battery. I use the go plus every day for hours at work and my commute. The Energizers are worth it

These are what I've bought. Shipping is pretty quick even though it's not a Prime item.

Hope this helps.

Hey if you're trying to get into running....I HIGHLY recommend getting into trail running instead of road running. Running on the trails is SOOOOO much more fun! Seriously. I switched to trail running from road running about a year and a half ago and I haven't hit the pavement since (unless I have to in order to get to the next trail :P ) .

Either way though, good for you OP! The best parts of this game IMO are that it forces people to be active even if they didn't used to be very active, AND you get to meet cool random people who also enjoy Pokemon which forces anti-social people to break out of their shell.

Stay focused on just walking/running more and more and you'll start shredding the weight. Doind 5k's and 10k's is definitely a great way to stay motivated, especially if you get friends to sign up with you. You can all train (running & Pokemon) together and keep each other motivated!

SIDE NOTE: Not sure if you're having problems with chafing or not (happens quite often with overweight people or people that just have bigger thighs) but THIS STUFF works wonders to prevent the chafing. I'm not a super big guy but when I first started getting into trail running I was having problems with chafing and a more experienced friend recommended this stuff. Also, cotton boxers/briefs will wreck you. Highly recommend investing in some nice compression shorts and/or other underwear that's geared towards running.

There might be, but I've never seen it.

In my experience, when the battery gets below a certain threshold, the Go+ stops easily connecting to your phone. When I first got my Go+, it easily connected to my phone, and after about a week or so of heavy use, it stopped connecting. As soon as I tried a new battery, it connected instantly. I was going through cheap batteries pretty quickly, so I ended up getting a rechargeable battery (link to site; link to Amazon). It's a little pricey and it makes the Go+ kinda thick, but it's definitely worth it to me to not have to worry about changing batteries.

My experience isn't necessarily the norm, though - I've seen plenty of people talking about having batteries that lasted months without needing changing!

u/deliciousexmachina · 2 pointsr/pokemongo

In OP's picture that's actually one of those bendy, "octopus" style phone tripods, with the legs bent around the handlebars to secure the phone.

Looks like you could get one on Amazon for about $7.50
(that was the cheapest one I saw that was Prime eligible, there are lots of different ones for sale), or I'm sure any Best Buy (or similar electronics store) would have them too.

Alternately there are actual phone bike mounts such as this one
(again, just copied and pasted the cheapest one I saw in the first 5 seconds, best to do your own research)
which would be less risky since they're actually designed to do that.

I'm researching power banks as well currently, and I want to point out there are also power banks that support Qualcomm Quick Charge. Can be handy if your smartphone supports that technology.

I found following 2 supporting it: https://www.amazon.com/Qualcomm-Certified-RAVPower-20100mAh-Portable/dp/B019IFIJW8/ and https://www.amazon.com/PowerCore-Qualcomm-Portable-Backwards-Compatible/dp/B00VLNT9KW/

I would personally recommend this one. It is incredible. It has USB-C qualcomm quick charge which I absolutely LOVE.

I bought this sucker earlier this month (and it was also a tad cheaper). Needless to say my brother, friends, and I love it.

So heres the dilly, pickle. The game is, to an extent, made to be habit forming... the randomized rewards, the triggers, the reason it sends you reminders, the timers on interactions, all of it. https://www.amazon.com/Hooked-How-Build-Habit-Forming-Products/dp/1591847788 I know this is gonna sound a bit messed up, as lots of the other advice is gonna be about willpower or possibly other apps, or just saying quit cold turkey (also an option, delete your account, cut off your ways of going back)... but what I think worked best for me in terms of cutting down on addictive apps and behaviors was reading the book "Hooked" above, and actually writing down/keeping a log every time I notice a feature, function, or reminder in the app that resembled one of those ways that people try to use your dopamine response and biochemistry to induce behaviors. Being able to actively identify when an app, website, etc., is trying to leverage my addictive personality to get me hooked on it has helped tremendously in getting me out of bad habits.

Use their knowledge of biochemical responses and dopamine forming habits to stop them from having the ability to influence you without your knowledge. The principles POGO uses elicit the same physiological responses from people as gambling, just they don't realize that they're doing it... it's addictive, it's meant to be addictive, and you shouldn't at all feel embarrassed or bad about them winning this round. Get smart, get educated on how they won, and beat your addiction in the next chapter.

example of how the log looked for me was:

Type (Trigger/Action/Variable Reward/Investment) : Feature associated

Trigger : game push notice about limited time opportunity (FOMO).

just start listing out the ways they're fucking with you, and the ways they fuck with you work progressively less, because you're aware of them, and you know someone's trying to influence your behavior without actually telling you. If you decide to go the deletion route... delete the whole account, not just the app... get rid of all that time you've "invested" into your addiction, because otherwise its just gonna keep tempting you to come back.

u/Strix_the_Owl · 2 pointsr/pokemongo

Gotcha. In that case, I'd recommend getting a 20,000 if you're out with friends, as all of you can use one charger. Otherwise, A smaller one will do.

If you have a backpack and want to do 20k:

That's why I bought one of External Battery Pack My battery life was already really suspect, so it's an amazing purchase for this game and just a really good purchase in general. And I got it with 1day shipping on Prime.

u/odorous · 3 pointsr/pokemongo

This one.

Scroll down a bit on the page for the promotional offers.

You get THIS and THIS for free with purchase.

Li-PO battery inside gives better longevity. Cheaper than the ankers and bigger. Registering the products at their website gives you 18 months no hassle warranty with a life time warranty. No problems with it so far, have only made 4 full discharge cycles on it. So far, I love them both.

edit:

This is what my checkout screen looked like.

/u/ddow13 down below has some instruction on how it works..pretty simple though

u/iam_foundorange · 1 pointr/pokemongo

I just bought this a few days ago and love it!

u/RoxasTheNobody · 1 pointr/pokemongo

I would say yes. [There is a lower mAh from there, too.] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00ZZN6J0W?pc_redir=T1)

They might be heavy. They charge fairly quick. Yeah, I think they'll do quite well.

Don't let it get too hot, mainly because heat drains batteries. Don't leave it on the charger overnight. Unplug it when it hits 100%. If you are going to leave them for a long time, have it charged to 50%. Do not get liquid on it! Dont drop these and don't take them apart.

u/Elongated_Eggplant · 7 pointsr/pokemongo

Most of the manga (up to BW2, including FRLF and HGSS remakes) have been translated into English and are avaliable on Amazon as physical prints. For the US release, the earlier regions/games are split up into box-sets containing all the books of their respective arc.

Here's the first set: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1421550067

EDIT: XY series is currently being released as individual volumes in the US, with Vol. 8 coming in October. You can either buy them individually for ~$5 each or wait for the eventual box-set.

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07L5JXFQ2/ - I have this and get ~1k every 10 minutes, which is about average walking speed. If you do buy it, take the advice below, otherwise it might not track properly. Also helps if your phone isn't in the case as the device moves slower if the phone is in the case. You also can't have your phone charging while using this.

Advice: Close Pokemon Go. Start google fit, change the setting to speak every 1km, click "Track Workout," put the phone partially into this holder, click "Start" and put the phone completely in the holder and swing it.

When you have however many kms you want, stop google fit, let the journal refresh, then open PoGo and it should sync. Sometimes it still doesn't track all of it - I've found roughly 2 hours to be about the point it decides not to count anything, so I'd say maybe stop at 5-6km.

If you don't want that device, another option is to have it in your pocket and run/walk on a treadmill.

u/JustDroppinBy · 2 pointsr/pokemongo

This one was recommended by someone on this sub who was very proud of their mobile power and carried around 50,000mAh.

I bought it (this one alone holds 22,400mAh) and it's worked flawlessly for me. I've let other people charge from my spare slots and still haven't run out of juice before getting tired and going home. Just make sure you've got a belt or draw string on your pants.

u/Evillar · 1 pointr/pokemongo

According to this it'll only take 8 hours due to double 2A inputs. I got a wall port pretty much specifically for it

A better version of the go plus

u/Sequel_P2P · 2 pointsr/pokemongo

off-topic, but i'm seeing a lot of people sour about how little their batteries are helping because of the massive battery reqs, but there's a solution

i use two of these, and bring them to lure zones in case people really need charges ++ also, they double as flashlights in case you're for whatever reason in the dark with your chargers.

Its an unofficial device that mimics the Pokemon Go Plus except instead of just alerting you about pokemon and pokestops it can actually grab them automatically. Theres also a manual mode that acts just like a regular Go Plus, but the main feature is the auto mode.

good looking out but I perfer this one with quick charge:

I just bought this one EasyAcc Monster 20000mAh Power Bank and one of these iClever BoostCube 4.8A 24W Dual USB Travel Wall Charger.

The power bank has 2 inputs for recharging the battery pack, and with the wall charger I bought with it, it can be completely recharged in about 6 hours instead of the typical 10-12 hours a 20,000 mAh battery pack normally takes.

Also the output is up to 2.4A per port up to 4.8A total. Meaning that you could charge 2 devices simultaneously at 2.4A each, or 4 devices simultaneously at 1.2A each. Assuming your devices can accept a 2.4A input, but if not the power bank will automatically limit the output to whatever your device can handle.

After having to charge my phone several times today, I was looking at this.

What are you using?

u/strifezero · 2 pointsr/pokemongo

To put it simply mAh is the capacity of the battery and the A is the charging speed.

e.g. If you had Powerbank A with 2500 mAh and 2.4A and Powerbank B with 5000mAh and 2.1A

Powerbank B can hold more charge than Powerbank A but A will charge your devices faster than B. I personally have this one:

Last night there was a pogo meet up in my city. Lures and poke stops everywhere. Since I am battery God I shared my extra 50,000 mah with who ever needed a charge. I felt like a hero.

Edit: To any one wondering, here are my two biggest batteries https://imgur.com/a/zFhRT
20,000 and 22,400 respectively

ZeroLemon- https://www.amazon.com/ZeroLemon-SolarJuice-20000mAh-Portable-Battery/dp/B00NIOGKL8

EC- https://www.amazon.com/EC-Technology-22400mAh-External-Battery/dp/B00FDK2G2C

PNY- Cannot find it online for whatever reason, but it's 10,400mah. I could add a picture but its in my car right now. You guys understand.

MyCharge-Also can't find. Guessing it's retired. But it was 6,600 I believe

MyCharge- https://www.amazon.com/myCharge-Transit-Plus-3000-Power/dp/B00KDJ4EBE First one I got. Started my unhealthy addiction of never charging my phone from the wall.

So my total mAh is 62,400, giving me about 30 charges from 0. If you ask for a recommendation I will tell you go with EC. It's been nothing but perfect to me, has 3 ports and a flashlight.

I'm using a Samsung Galaxy s4 mini. This phone will have issues with the "GPS location not found issue." I found the fix for this is to download another app known as: "GPS status & toolbox" run the "Gps status and toolbox" app before opening the "pokemon go" app. The game will now work. You will see pokemon. Note: The servers are currently being slammed. So the game is not really playable. But once the servers calm down. Your phone will be able to play it. I was playing early this morning with no problems. Then people woke up and slammed the servers. I hoped this helped! BTW: The battery drain of this app on our phone is killer. Expect 4 hours max before a dead battery. I recommend grabbing a EasyAcc Monster 20000mAh Power Bank right now. They are on sale for $32.99, which is a 90% discount from the original price of $122.99.
