Food questions (Priorities!)

Favorite baked goods? Are home made baked goods OK?:

  • Cookies! I love chocolate chip, especially with nuts (pecans, walnuts, macadamia nuts), but plain old chocolate chip is good too. And yes, baked goods are yummy!

Favorite other snacks/treat things? Sweet or savory?:

  • Both! I love chocolate (but not white chocolate). I'm not a big fan of most fruity/non-chocolate candy or coconut. I also like a wide variety of salty snacks (chips, crackers, nuts), and beef jerky is yummy.

Coffee, Tea, Hot Chocolate, or all of the above? What kind of flavors do you like?

  • Not big on coffee or tea, but hot chocolate is yummy.

Do you have furbabies, human babies, or SOs? What kinds of things do they like?:

  • I have a SO and 3 dogs and 3 cats. The cats like cat things. This is a favorite dog toy. SO likes football (New Orleans Saints), Magic the Gathering, World of Warcraft, and stuff and things.

I know this was asked on the sign-ups, but I'm asking again: Any allergies? Or any flavors that you just can't stand?

  • No allergies. Don't like coconut or coffee flavored things.

    Polishes:

    Favorite mainstream polish brands?

  • Zoya, OPI

    Favorite indie brands?

  • Reverie, KBShimmer, Lucky 13, ILNP

Brands that you're dying to try?

  • All of them!

    Any lemmings?

  • Emily de Molly Monet's Garden

Colors & types of polish that you dislike?

  • Not a fan of yellow and gold. Don't like bar glitter alone, plain textured polishes, or crackle.

Colors & types of polish that you love?

  • Love blues and teals. I'm a sucker for jelly/crelly glitters, but I like a bit of everything.

    Other things

If you said that you celebrate a holiday, how into that holiday are you? For example, if you said you celebrate Christmas, do you love ALL THE CHRISTMAS THINGS!!! or are you lucky if you put up a tree?

  • I celebrate Christmas, but I haven't actually put a tree up in years because we don't have room for one.

Do you collect anything other than polish?

  • Star Wars stuff (specifically Boba Fett and Clone troopers, but I love all things Star Wars) and Doctor Who stuff.

What are your hobbies? Can you use anything for them?

  • Video/board games, watching way too much TV/Netflix, reading (occasionally), spending time with my zoo.

Are there any warm things you're in need of, or that you can never have enough of? Hats, scarves, (fingerless) gloves, socks, etc.?

  • I love all of the above, especially scarves.

Do you have any fiber preferences for clothing items? Do you react to wool (soft wool exists, I promise!), or can you not stand acrylic hats?

  • Soft and pretty is all I care about. Warm is good too if we're talking winter stuff.

What's the weather like in your area?

  • Moody. We went from the 20s to the 40s to the 50s that feel like 40s in the span of a week or two, and then it's supposed to get up to 60 this weekend. It does tend to be pretty cold in the winter here though, it just usually happens a little later in the season.

What's the temperature like at your workplace/school/house/etc.? Are you always cold there?

  • I'm pretty much always cold.

Do you like to read? What genre/authors/series/etc. do you like?

  • I don't read nearly as much as I used to. I like sci-fi, read a lot of Star Wars books. The last book I read was the first of the Outlander series.

What else would make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside?

  • Just knowing that some thought was put into it. :)

Anything else that you'd like your stalker to know?

  • I love you! Oh, and I'm also doing the RAoP exchange.

I don't really ever splurge that much at once on myself, but one of my favorite slightly pricey items is Pandora jewelry. If you don't know anything about it, their website is here. It is a modernish charm bracelet, and they are really fun. My husband usually buys me a charm or two for the major holidays each year. I am going to link you some pictures on the assumption you don't know anything about pandora. lol

To start you will need a bracelet. They have several types, but I recommend the normal silver or oxidized silver bracelet. The charms are threaded beads that screw on, so there are two raised areas with threads on the middle of the bracelet to let you space your charms out. The sell clips that go over these areas and lock on, I recommend getting 2 of those right away as well. Then you pick out any of the hundreds of charms they have. They have some amazing ones. My favorites are the koala bear, the seashell, the dragon, and this flower. There are so many it is impossible to choose when you start.

Now, assuming you want to start this, most of their charms are $25-40ish or more if they have gold or gemstones. So it doesn't have to be a super pricey thing, and you can add to it a little at a time. The bracelet is $65 I think, BUT! If you could handle waiting until I think September 19th-22nd, Pandora does a sale where you get a free bracelet when you spend $100. Its a really good deal I think, I usually have my husband wait a month and get me presents for our anniversary in September rather than August.

Their site will tell you where stores are for you, it looks like there are at least a couple where your amazon wishlist is set to, (I hope that's not stalkerish of me! I didn't want to recommend all this and then find out you didn't have a
Pandora store.) but there are bigger stores that would carry more of their stuff to the south of you. And most places will let you do two transactions and get 2 free bracelets, so you could try two of their styles. They just came out with a bangle that looks neat and I think that will be the free one I get next month for our anniversary which is this month. Heh.

All that being said, going back to WORK SUCKS! I wish you good luck and I hope it isn't too terrible for you. Hugs! Spoil yourself really well with something amazing!

I am really lemming the rest of the Color Club holos, and would love either Angel Kiss or Cosmic Fate as I don't have anything like those colors. Thanks for the fun contest! I enjoy talking about Pandora as much as I enjoy talking about nail polish. Haha.

  1. You should listen to Say Anything. They are pretty much amazing. EVERY song on "...Is a Real Boy" is EXCELLENT. Seriously. Great stuff. Against Me! is also really good. Try "Walking Is Still Honest" and "Miami."

  2. Here are my kitties playing with a Kitty Kong. They're cute.

  3. OPI "Do You Lilac It?

and Different Dimension "That Is SO Fetch!"

I kind of have a thing for purples.

  4. KB Shimmer "Rollin' With The Chromies" is just wonderful.

KB Shimmer "Iris My Case" because it's amazing and purple and glittery AND has the perfect name.

ORLY "Pixie Powder" is also gorgeous.

    Purple + glitter = win.

ORLY "Miss Conduct" is also pretty amazing.

  5. Have you ever watched Weeds? It's pretty hilarious! I also am now in the second seaosn of Dexter and it's pretty great!

  6. Okay, this is my favorite Oreo cake recipe; I created it by mixing several recipes. Prepare a devil's food cake in a 9x13" pan as directed on the box, with the addition of crumbling one row of Oreos into the batter. While it is baking, prepare this hot fudge recipe. I will say that I usually double it, then pour off a small mason jar of it to give as a gift (I usually make this cake to take places) and then I use the rest in the cake. You could also purchase a jar of hot fudge. Once the cake is done baking, remove from oven and let cool 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, take the handle of a wooden spoon and poke holes into the cake. Pour a can of sweetened condensed milk into all the holes. Then pour the hot fudge on. Put cake in fridge for a few hours. I then like to make a frosting using an 8oz. block of cream cheese, half a cup of sugar, and a container of whipped cream. Mix in one row of crushed Oreos and spread over the cake. Refrigerate overnight. Before serving, crumble the last row of Oreos over the cake. It is epic. I promise. I am actually trying a Butterfingers variation of this for my brother's birthday party on Sunday! Sooo, yeah. Good times. Also, tax season rules! =)

Gonna copypaste some relevant info from a recent topic on the same thing. First thing for cuticle health, and hell, general health is start drinking a lot of water. It is good for your skin and nails, and pretty much every part of you. If your cuticles are dry(or your skin in general), add in a fish oil supplement, it makes your skin more supple and helps it retain water and it also good for your brain. For general fatigue, pick up a B-Complex vitamin, or at the very least a B12. This is the stuff they put in 5 hour energy and the like, and you can't overdo it, because you just pee out anything your body doesn't need. If the fatigue persists I would get some blood work done to check your vitamin levels. Iron deficiency, magnesium, vitamin D and plenty of other ones could cause problems if you are deficient.

As for the cuticle oil question, I noticed the main ingredient in CND Solar oil is Jojoba oil, so I just bought some and decanted it into a amber glass dropper bottle(though plenty of containers would work), and use it like twice a day. If you want to make it fancy you can add some lemon or lavender essential oil, but plain jojoba works amazing for me. I also use jojoba for a hair oil(add it to my conditioner and straight for frizzies), and use it as a moisturizer for my face. Stuff is magic yo.

Oh and using it is easy! You literally just put a drop on each finger and rub it in. Jojoba oil as well as sweet almond oil has the added benefit of supposedly being the only oils that can penetrate the actual nail plate, so it can help hydrate your actual nails in theory as well. I don't have any peer reviews studies about in on hand though, so I'll just have to trust the blogs I've read about it on, and Solar oils claims.

Before that I used coconut and teatree, which also works well(and works as a handy antisceptic). If you have any questions about anything, feel free to ask.

I need a holo in my life! and this color club is only 7.65 and free shipping WOO!

So a story of my life..okay how about the awesomely corny story I told at my wedding??

The first night I met him I was hanging out with his best friend (who was interested in me at the time but...he's not my type so we were just friends). We decided to go pick my future husband up and go to a club. On the way there his friend told me he didn't really have a lot of experience with girls so it would be awesome if I ran and gave him a hug. Being the crazy not shy person I am, I did that..but it was night time and dark. I am 5'...he's 6'. I didn't realize this until I was right in front of him so I literally jumped into his arms to hug him. This was the first time we ever met. We became best friends. Not too long after we were hanging out at a playground alone and just laying on the grass staring at the stars. We saw a shooting star so we each made a wish. My wish came true on my wedding day.. I married my soul mate and I'm still madly in love.

Sorry if I made you gag. He gives me the tinglies and I can't help it!

I was thinking that she could get:

-Wet n' Wild Blazed. it may not look to amazing in this picture, but it's a fantastic coral color that is perfect for summer.
-China Glaze for Audrey. I know it has been mentioned here before, but omg, someone polished me with it a few months ago and I'm so in love. Everyone needs this color.
-OPI Russian Navy. I noticed this was mentioned as well, but I am a huge advocate for it, everyone needs a nice dark polish. I have been lusting after this one for a while. It looks stunning on its own, as well as a matte.
-For good measure, she needs a good top coat. Poshe. I used to use Seche Vite, but switched to Poshe when I realized how thick Seche Vite gets about halfway through the bottle (I don't have this issue with Poshe until the end of the bottle).

I hope this helps! <3

u/dyannnnna · 1 pointr/PolishGauntlet

Well, you can start by taking a Biotin supplement or prenatal vitamins. Those will help speed up the growth of your natural nails. You'll also want to get a strengthening polish of some sort. OPI Nail Envy is popular, but I'm not sure what's available where you live. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. Hand cream as often as possible. Apply cuticle oil at least once or twice a day. There are tons out there. File your nails gently, and if they're not too sensitive, buff the surface to even it out. Don't over buff it. It shouldn't hurt. After your nail surfaces are stronger and less sensitive, you might want to get a cuticle remover gel and some orange wood sticks. Apply the cuticle remover, let it sit for a minute, and then use the orange wood to gently push back any of the stuff growing up your nails. Wash your hands after using the cuticle remover, if left on too long it could burn your skin. Moisturize.

I linked some products on amazon. Just because I linked specific products doesn't mean that's what you have to use. It might take a little while to figure out the routine that works best for you, but you can do it.

u/snowywhiteowl · 11 pointsr/PolishGauntlet

Canada here :) this is too sweet of you, sharing your birthday gift! Good on you! Klean Colours Chunky Holo Purple is on sale right now for only $3.20 right now, and is stunning!

EDIT: I've just started listening to Marina and the Diamonds, and loving them on my summer playlist! Check out How To Be A Heartbreaker or Primadonna. The others are amazing too, so check them out if you like those ones! :) Happy belated birthday!

u/Kittenmittons91 · 2 pointsr/PolishGauntlet

I think you and I both need Essie First Timer. It's a little bit over $5 ($6.08 after shipping), but look at these swatches. It's the perfect minty green but really unique and right on trend with this summer's colors! Plus, Essie makes some great greens.

Or for something a little cheaper, China Glaze Surreal Appeal is under $5 and a gorgeous bright coral! This would look amazing with a tan or as a pedicure.

u/unlodgical · 2 pointsr/PolishGauntlet

Yay! Thanks for hosting! <3

For a blue I think this would be awesome! It's a darker blue like the hoodie, and the swatches look fantastic with shine and with a matte top coat!

I would totally pair it with this gold. It seems to be a more yellow gold like the hoodie as well.

Woo! I bet you're gonna love the games. All that ice and fights and stuff!

u/secretagentkitty · 1 pointr/PolishGauntlet

I think this is a great idea! C'mon spring!

u/CrossedWires · 2 pointsr/PolishGauntlet

Striping tape manis:
Here's one that I did which isn't too hard. I've also always wanted to try this one.

The house I lived in during most of university was a nice house but had an awful landlord. He wouldn't give us any notice that he was coming and randomly enter the house... once when I had just gotten out of the shower. Creepy and illegal.

Here is a picture of a European cuttlefish I took at the Toronto aquarium. I too love sea life. Here is one of four Carribean reef squid I saw while snorkeling in the Dominica.

Drink: Take a half a can of of frozen lemonade mix, half a can of frozen orange juice mix, a cup of sprite/7up or gingerale, and 1-2 cups of ice. Blend together. Delicious citrus slushee. Add optional rum.

I think these sunglasses are pretty adorable.

EDIT: Essie list :)

  • curve ball
  • raspberry
  • china doll
  • super bossa nova
  • charlseton
  • uptown taupe
  • pound cake
  • vanity fairest
  • jewel
  • antique rose
  • pop art pink
  • jam n jelly

<3 Feelings suck sometimes :( It'll be okay!

I'm going to spam you with random adorable, mostly lamb pictures from my Black Sheep gauntlet that just ended, since a lot of them made me smile :)

an awesome sheep video with lights!

lamb

fuzzy sheep!

happy black lamb

a lamb and a duck!

not quite a sheep...

another cute lamb

and another one...

and yet another one!

erm, I think you might notice a theme here...

a random rainbow sheep

mom's a playground, right?

and a random sheep lamp because I kept typing "lamp" instead of "lamb"

And this is what's on my nails right now -it's Pretty & Polished Dancing at Dusk in the cold state, since my fingers are freezing, topped with Urban Outfitters La Luna. It makes me think of princess nails or something, especially when they're warm and change to a light blue.

Color Club Over the Moon is pretty high on my wishlist right now, since I've recently discovered just how amazing Color Club holos are.

u/FireInsideHer · 2 pointsr/PolishGauntlet

Woop wooooop!!!!

Let's see... I'm Annie. I'm 21, from Indiana. I'm just a little bit type A. I really like to plan things and I get really antsy when things go off the plan. I've lived in five states and I've done a bunch of traveling besides that too. I have cats and rats for pets. Someday (SOON) I want to settle down and start a family and all that other stuff but it doesn't look like that's going to happen so I'm trying to make myself okay with that. Fall is my favorite season and I can't wait for it! I have so many new fall colored polishes to try!

Edit Here's my part two:

  1. I love this subtle Little Mermaid mani.

  2. Tetherball Corgis!

  3. Right now that would be this.

  4. "Women speak two languages- one of which is verbal"

  5. Boots and Cats. Not your standard cat video.

  6. I love the details on this mani.

  7. I am lemming: Rica, Solange, Lucky Goldfish and any Fall Pixiedusts and the entire OPI ballet collection.

  8. Whatever you're going through, just keep pushing. You can get through anything with enough effort. Just keep trucking and you'll get there. Also, whoever reads this, I love your face. <3
u/netters_nails · 2 pointsr/PolishGauntlet

Carpe Noctom cosmetics has Prince Eric and Seawitch There's also LynB Machiavellian and From Night To Day Unfortunately I think this is permanently sold out but I am in love with Nail Pattern Boldness Vincent Price Is Right (though I don't own it) and there's Color Club Beyond and Revolution Lucky 13 Lacquer has Bad Wolf

Aaaaaaand then there's Colors by Llarowe:

u/dinos_rawr · 2 pointsr/PolishGauntlet

I have lots :) CG Def Defying is $4.63, CG Red Satin is $4.66, CG Surreal Appeal is $5, CG Whirled Away is $5.27, Essie Ballet Slippers is $5.79, and this stamper is $4.35. There's more options than that, so if I win you can look at those too if none of these tickle your fancy :)

I also have lots of favorite shows! I love Supernatural, Weeds, Pretty Little Liars, the new Hawaii Five-0, Scrubs, Grey's Anatomy, Psych, Fringe. (The bold ones are the ones I recommend you watch if you haven't seen them already)

edit to add Fringe. More may be added haha

Disclaimer: A couple fit that I think with shipping might be over $15? If so and the numbers gods smile upon me, totally choose one of the other cheaper ones. Because when it comes down it, I just really like getting things in the mail. It makes me feel loved. <3 Fun gauntlet, good luck ladies! And gents if you are here!

u/silentwail · 1 pointr/PolishGauntlet

I know you want my lumps

It might take a while before I can get a mani done for this if it has to be a new one. I've got too much BS going on these days.
I decided to go with this mani because it was one of the few times I actually got to take the time to do "art".

I do not know any men that would allow me to paint their nails in any capacity. This is a bummer for me. I did, however, paint the nails of a robot hand today. Even gave it stiletto tips... Sadly I do not know it's true gender so I don't think it will count.
I'm still working on finding the time to paint my coworkers nails..we've been super busy at work (we only get 15 minute breaks and I know he'll want to remove it ASAP so I have to move fast) Hopefully I'll return soon....

I HAVE RETURNED WITH A "MAN"I!

I would like to request this if I happen to win. =) Thanks for hosting!!!

In Crimson Flame

Thanks for having this! The box looks AMAZINGGG

  1. Number 1 is expensive so here's number 2

  2. Not really!

  3. I am not very picky! I like most things (especially shiny things) but I am not a huge fan of jellies or neutral polishes.

  4. I do not own a nice file or cuticle cream...or a basecoat...yeah I'm the worst prepper

  5. I love baseball more than the average person does (Go Dodgers!)

  6. Ooooh I love treats. Dark chocolate, gummy bears, sour thingies, all of the things

  7. I do not have any of those thingies. Roommates have pet allergies so no furbabies :(

  8. Honestly anything you put in that box I'm going to adore because it's such a nice thing! Anything I see off my wishlist will make me smile

  9. Dark chocolate is a really safe bet

  10. No allergies! I don't like caramel or milk chocolate (unless it's mixed with peanut butter...then mmmmm). I would probably prefer a more expensive polish to several drug store ones.

  11. I do not but think lots of Essie and not so much of anything else!

  12. I do not!

    Thanks again :D

Here are two striping tape mani's I love, both because of the color and design! Mani #1 and Mani #2

This cephalopod lamp is AMAZING and I want one so bad.

Nothing says tasty summer beverage to me like a delicious "sonic" cherry limeade (copycat recipe)

How about some adorable Hello Kitty Sunglasses?!

As for a terrible apt story, I remember the first apt we lived in when we moved to Seattle as a kid was a one bedroom on the top floor right on the on-ramp headed down town. My sister and I shared a pull out bed while my mother slept on the cushions on the floor. We had one small black and white tv and a chair to sit and watch it from, and the only light the apt had was either the bathroom or small kitchen overhead light. At night I would fall asleep to the feeling of the building shaking from the mac trucks driving past either on the ramp or already on the high way. Really the only good thing about that place was the amazing view of the city at night.

As for my list, the only ones I REALLY want are pound cake, capri, vanity fairest, who's she red, pop art pink, raspberry, watermelon, and charmeuse. I know that's not 12, but those the ones that struck me as the coolest...really I would take any of the red/orange cremes :)

u/Paracontra · 2 pointsr/PolishGauntlet

  1. oh hey errmagerd how are you today?!

  2. such nail art is this one. I love Hello Kitty!

  3. My miracle product for nail care would be OPI Nail Envy. It keeps my nails incredibly strong. I would also suggest keeping your cuticles moisturized, I'm obsessed with E&A oils. My fave is Pumpkin Apple Butter. Finally, I don't know what kind of remover you use, but I swear ever since I switched to Zoya Remove it feels like my nails peel less. I'm not sure if it's because there is no acetone in it, but it's incredibly gentle yet still tough enough to remove glitters and such. I know it's pricey, but it's worth it 'cause this is how we do it!
u/its_plastic · 2 pointsr/PolishGauntlet

This isn't a new color, so you may have it but I'm pretty obsessed with Orly Fowl Play.

Just look at it! It would be PERFECT for fall :)

Orly Bonder is something I've been eyeing for a while :) $6.75!

u/snackzzz · 2 pointsr/PolishGauntlet

We actually had 6 similar items!! i'm gonna say we both need nail envy because i only have a few drops of mine left (sads:/) and we want BEAUTIFUL nails! this stuff is seriously my god. i can't get over how much my nails have improved! i know you want strong ass nails, too, because who doesn't??:)

also, yay for birthday!!

u/mobscura · 2 pointsr/PolishGauntlet

Manglaze isn't specifically marketed towards men. Their company and nail polish names are naughty, to be sure. Their main thing is their polish has a matte finish. Using a matte top coat will give anything a finish like that.

As for the nail splitting, try a nail strengthener and make sure the nails are moisturized frequently with hand cream and/or cuticle cream.

u/hollysglad · 2 pointsr/PolishGauntlet

LOVE
My plans are to not go crazy during this tax season (my job) and to hopefully help my husband find a job that he is comfortable with (he lost his after 5 years last April). So, pretty much my goal is for the 4 of us to survive and get back on our feet.

u/Hipashia · 2 pointsr/PolishGauntlet

I am so happy for you! Ever since I had my baby, I have been mourning what I used to have. I am struggling with being large ever since I got pregnant and gained 50 pounds, which I cannot seem to lose for the life of me! I can't even lose one damn pound! I too have had to cut out soda and I take walks daily now.

I really would love to have Orly "Fowl play", It is gorgeous, plus flakies, and whenever I wore it, it would make me think about commitment to a healthier me. That is pretty damn cool!

1: oh hey errmagerd! Thanks for the contests!

2: such nail art - Star Wars mani. I worked really hard on this one.

3: this is how we do it - I wish I had a secret for nail care! I've tried SO many products recommended here (and given them each a month of use) with no luck - but maybe one will work for you: Sally Hansen Complete Care, OPI Nail Envy Original, OPI Nail Envy Maintenance, ORLY Bonder, and Nail Tek. Still my nails peel at the tips. I really don't know what to do, aside from keeping my nails trimmed short or not polishing at all. I'm trying this by Sally Hansen, now. I've only been using this for one week, so it's too early to tell. I do use cuticle oil, and like most people here, I use Emerald & Ash (as well as Rainbow Honey & Essie Apricot Oil) - though, I'm not as religious about it as I probably should be. I tend to wait until my cuticles look in rough shape. >.>

Orly's glowstick seems really cool, and I don't have a color like it!

Life story- going on vacation on Tuesday and I'm SO EXCITED

We both have Color Club Holo in Peach on our WL.

I only own one Color Club and it's lonely hehe. Seriously though its drool worthy and has great reviews :)

We both have nail envy! My nails are definitely not at their strongest right now, and nail envy would definitely help. Thank you so much for the contest!

EDIT: hay, look, we both have knackered too. But I'm not sure if that one counts because it's TOO DAMN HIGH. I hate BL for that. You can't just make beautiful polishes and then make them EXPENSIVE. :P

Both /u/rachelrad and I are both long-time lurkers that have just introduced ourselves, and we both have Orly Sparkling Garbage
on our wishlists. I think we should all get it because it is without-a-doubt a must-have polish for our collections! It's so so sparkly, and that name is amazeballs too :)
