I usually game on a 47" LG LED 1080p TV which works well for the distance I play at (4-5 feet).
As for audio, I like being able to use the headphones I want instead of buying specific gaming headphones with subpar audio quality, which is basically any set of gaming headphones currently out IMO. I have the Microsoft chat adapter, the Sennheiser HD598 Headphones which are amazing especially for pinpointing locations and hearing footsteps behind you, the Turtle Beach DSS2 to get dolby surround 5.1, and then I use the Antlion Modmic 4.0 which is a third party mic that can be attached securely to any headphones. It's a lot of wires, but it's the best audio setup ever. Very easy to dial in game or chat audio and absolutely terrific sound.
Sennheiser HD 558 with a Modmic 2.0.
It's super versatile and cheap as chips right now
