"In the future, things are anything but ordinary..."
In 2022, the United States commissioned a group of scientists to experiment with genetic mutations. Their goal was to create a serum that would alter the human genetic code, making the subject stronger and faster. They succeeded but their victory was short lived. Not only had they created a super serum, but also an airborne virus. By 2025, seventy-five percent of the world's population had perished. The survivors, well their lives would never be the same.
175 A.V.
Ally is an Ordinary; a human immune to the virus. She lives in a settlement outside the City with her mother and twin brother, but lately it doesn't seem to be enough. She is wrestling between being with her family and volunteering to move to the City, where she can work for the Exceptionals.
Luke is an Exceptional; a superior human being. His ancestors were infected with the virus and lived through it, leaving their super human strength and special abilities to him. He has never given much thought to Ordinarys, despite pressure from his father to choose one from the ORC. But all of that changes when he meets Ally...

"Boy" is probably "beneath" your son's level and "The Code Book" is may challenge your daughter but I think that those are books that they could both enjoy, so that'd be good bang-for-buck.
I'll also recommend "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes," for your son, and, maybe, some classics, like "The Swiss Family Robinson" or Jules Verne but it's difficult, not knowing anything about them (not that you should be posting detailed descriptions of your kids).
I've got Fight Clubon My list I really love the movie so now that I realized it's a book I'd love to read that. Happy Early Birthday :)
Thanks for the contest! Yay on upcoming birthdays!
I'd love Onyx by Jennifer L. Armentrout if the random raffle gods choose me.
You are the best! Birthdays are so different as we become adults. This book has been on my 'intrigued' list.
Thank you for the contest and I hope you have a wonderful birthday!
I'm a normal college student, except for one thing: I'm the only person I know, even in my program, to have a passion for Economics. There's something about it that amazes me... it's mathematical, yet fluid in a profoundly human way. It may not be an instructional book, but Adam Smith's The Wealth of Nations is referenced in almost every textbook and by almost every professor I've seen. Being able to read through it, again and again, would help me to peek into the mind of the father of economics.
Hey.
I don't remember when I first fell in love with literature. But ever since I've been a kid, the house was alive with the clitter-clatter of typewriters (for my family was quite oldfashioned), and later computer keys.
Thing is, I'm no silver tongue poet. I'm still an amateur, a neophyte to the art of stirring emotions. I've got no sad story to sell, no deep loss to bleed out on paper. So let me just say it from my heart, and hope it'll be enough to move you an inch.
I love writing.
I've heard from others this book has it all. And maybe I've little chance for improvement. After all, it has to come rocketing out your soul, right? But to hell with all that, I'm trying anyway.
Who knows, maybe some years from now, I'll be passable, and then I can write you something pretty. You can be that first outstretched hand.
