Another TL;DR at bottom.

Yeah, that's about the norm for pre-bought computers, cheap drive. Replace it if at all possible.

I'm pretty sure there's something about Toshiba HDDs being pre-installed with a vulnerability. Either that, or they're just generally cheap pieces of cubic crap.

In terms of replacing your laptop's hard drive, I found This drive with a quick google search. Edit: This drive will not work your your laptop. See end of paragraph. I'm sure there's more affordable things out there, and certainly with larger sized (I got a 1 TB drive for the same price as this one, albeit a desktop drive) so you should certainly look around. I'd stay away from Seagate drives, as I believe they have a reputation for failing earlier than most drives. Edit: If you're looking for a replacement hard drive, make sure you see 7200 RPM in the disk title. I prefer to see the full set of what is shown in my example: SATA 6 GB/s, 32 MB cache, and, Most Importantly for Laptops: 2.5 Inch. a 3.5 inch drive will only fit in a desktop and (maybe?) special laptops. Almost all SSDs come in 2.5 inch, and require a rack adapter for a desktop computer.

Although, I have to say again, there's some sort of inefficiency keeping you from loading in quickly. It is completely possible, with a drive of your current speed, to load in well before your countdown finishes, as you have seen in the past. This suggests to me that upgrading your hard disk alone will not improve your game loading time until whatever else is slowing you down is removed.

Diagnosing the problem: Windows has a task manager, as you are aware. Open up the running processes, and sort by disk access, if that's possible. You should be able to view the process that is eating up your disk speed. Google the process, find out what is running it, and remove/uninstall the program if at all possible.

If you want to keep the program, but do not use it often: Consider disabling the program from your start-up menu. In windows Vista and 7, you could simply run "msconfig" from the start menu, and get a list of every startup program, and an option to enable or disable it. Windows 8 changed that somehow, and I haven't worked out the new system yet. You should consider finding out how that works... disabling uneeded startup programs may not impact how your game performs, but it will always speed up your boot time, and decrease "boot lag." I'm sure you can guess what that is. Also, If a program you don't need is started with the computer, and it's the program hogging your resources, you can disable it here, while leaving it available to launch manually when you want it.

TL;DR: You should consider upgrading your hard drive, however given your previous success with your current drive, it's most likely not at fault, and changing it won't bring significant changes to your game experience until other problems are solved.

Consider using the task manager to find the culprit disk-eating program. Uninstall it, or disable it from startup. Google how to do that though, I'm not familiar with windows 8.

Another edit: Consider running a SMART test on your drive. Here's a relevant post, if you're on Windows 8. It's not quite smart, but if you fail it, backup your data to another disk right away. This is the link for a true-blue, step-by-step on how to run an actual SMART test. Don't install the browser widget.

By no means the best mic in the world, but I use this and it more than gets the job done. Add a pop filter if you're feeling fancy.

Blame your wifi and probably your computer, too.

Maybe you need a new computer. I know a computer you can buy so just copy and paste the link below
