Features:
i7 7700k (4.2Ghz, not big on overclocking myself, just the increased single core speed + the auto-overclock option on motherboard for sake of a tiny gain.)
RTX 2080 (not sure, but prob is thermal throttled, but to be fair it is meant to be going into a new 380t Corsair build once I get an 8th Gen CPU for my H370M-ITX/ac I have from Asrock.
(GREAT I/O for functionality is why I chose the motherboard, and again, the CPU will probably be an 8600k or such, I managed to mod the case to allow an NH-D15 in there (it was dry fitted/test fitted with the motherboard to make sure the tolerances cleared.) and a Noctua 200mm intake.)and if load times matter, I have 32GB of 2666Mhz speed.
(one kit is 2666 and other is 2400, but I believe they both are clocked to 2666Mhz after XMP is turned on.)and a 1TB Samsung 860 EVO for programs that need to be loaded fast.I'm a fan of FANS and so have some beefy air cooling in my airflow-happy 750D, and as soon as I get my replacement Delta PFB1212UHE, I'm going to be replacing my current fan controller
(Sentry 3, good for mainstream-fans, decent LCD display.)with the Lamptron CF525 so I don't need to use Molex, but rather can connect up some power cables to the fan controller and use granular analog speed dials so I can not have the full 252.85 CFM (really am so happy with this guy, my first one broke during the time in which I had an external fan connected up from the inside that was blowing air at my body, propped up on a pencil, the pencil slipped, the blades broke, thankfully I had a fan grill and it was on the side facing me, otherwise I may be dismembered right now...) being pushed out at times in favor of quieter system usage.~~TL;DR 7700k, Z170 with a BIOS update to support 7th Gen, RTX 2080, 32GB of 2667Mhz, 1TB of SSD space which may help for load times. ... also, a whole ***load of air cooling, with 5 nice noctua fans at the moment, looking to change back to a 2 Intake, and 2 CPU-cooler fans from Noctua, and 1 exhaust fan from Delta (PFB1212UHE-F00) fine tuned by a fan controlled from Lamptron (CF525) which will be an intermittent use ideally, my computer can do great cooling when only running 2 CPU cooler fans, so intermittent exhaust should be okay with the chassis fans still moving air to keep all the components cool and never being throttled back.
edit: sorry I get too talkative about my computer, am quite happy about the upgrades I've made over time., my first computer I've built and upgraded upon, but still my main personal rig even though I have a lightweight HTPC and am "building" (aka postponing buying the final part.. the CPU of all things facepalm*) a portable "travel PC" meant to support great VR games/experiences.
A 3b+ (or even a 2) will play PS1 games just fine, as long as you're not using a GL plugin to render the visuals at a higher resolution. I'd rather have my PS1 games looking "stock" than using some ridiculous upscaling anyway, myself...
GameCube, though, is a different story. And also, N64 games tend to take more power than PS1; a Pi will run quite a few N64 games well enough to be playable, but it's a bit hit-or-miss as far as framerate goes. Probably best to use a more powerful computer anyway, /u/CommonGap.
As far as controllers go, it might be better to just use a wired 360 controller for everything; it plugs into USB, so no need for adapters, its face buttons are laid out very similarly to the SNES, it has joysticks so it'll work fine for PS1 and PS2 (if your system is powerful enough to run PCSX2), the right stick can be mapped to the N64's C buttons similar to the C-stick on the GameCube, etc. Alternatively, there are some great Logitech pads available for fairly cheap online; I've never had any problems with my Rumblepad 2 or Gamepad F310. Or you could get one of these adapters to take advantage of a PS1/PS2 controller's superior d-pad...
I would buy this lenovo laptop. Its $162 and its got an HDMI outlet so you can hook it up to your television or you could use the screen to play games on it. Linked for the model my mom recently bought. https://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-130S-Bluetooth-Personal-Included/dp/B07S8CGX9X/ref=sr_1_15?keywords=laptop&qid=1572735637&sr=8-15
Also worth mentioning this laptop comes with the S version of windows making it hard to download other stuff. You can easily switch it over to windows regular version for free online. Its not hard as someone described how to do it in the amazon reviews.
It should play a lot of emulators fairly well. Dolphin on the other hand requires an i5 2500 to run reasonably well. I tried running dolphin on my laptop its an i3 and a lot of the games just ran really slow. On my desktop i5 6400 it runs perfect. Like someone else mentioned the Playstation classic can play other games if your really strapped for cash. However its a mixed bag overall. You have to mod it and then use retro arch. Nothing wrong with retro I just like the more simple method of click on one program and the game. Instead of a do everything front end emulator. Just my thoughts.
How in the ever loving balls..... has nobody mentioned devices like this!!
There are literally 100s of them, many of which are reviewed on YouTube, I suggest you do watch those reviews too as there are some great examples and also total trash examples.
Honestly, I would check out something like the below and just plug it in when you need to rip something. Unless you need to use cd-based media frequently, the use cases for installing one of these drives permanently are disappearing and you can leave the front of your PC looking fresh.

It's a great time to revisit it! I recently just upgraded my hard drive so it'll last a bit longer. An old hard drive from the early 2000s is bound to fail eventually. I also replaced the fan and reapplied the CPU thermal paste. It's now much quieter than before. The POUND HD Link cable also makes it look a bit better on modern TVs.
There is still a community of modders at /r/originalxbox.
I can recommend anything from 8BitDo, especially the SNES ones.
Since a few months i use the HORI Fighting Commander for most retro systems up to PSX. It feels great + there's a PS version, if you prefer that.
An Xbox One controller with this clip or any clip like that
I'm not very server literate, but if you're looking to store data you no longer need but do not seem to want to delete just in case, would buying something like this be an option? Or even a normal HDD and then running a SATA to USB cable, which would be cheaper but imo less durable.
I got this one last year will it work? https://www.amazon.com/Flux-Capacitor-Makes-Travel-Possible/dp/B01N7CVF78
Get a Wii Sensor Bar then you can configure it with Dolphin emulator
i would say these https://www.amazon.com/8Bitdo-SF30-Controller-Windows-macOS-Android/dp/B0748S3GXG?th=1 but the d pad on them SUCK, they can be fixed but thats a bit involved, i have a video on how to do it. but if you can wait they have these coming out, but no one knows how the d pads will be on them. https://images.idgesg.net/images/article/2018/06/dscf6917-100761444-orig.jpg
