I made the exact switch you made, N5 to S7E.

I also have difficulty with the fingerprint reader, but not to where it won't eventually work. I sometimes have to try it two or three times but it does work. I would consider trying mapping your dominant thumb as two separate prints like another user here mentioned... if anything my main complaint with it is only being able to save 4 prints (I also have my wife's saved).

I had difficulty with text messages not sending, and more often than not Messages would simply crash upon sending anything. I have a feeling this was due to me importing 350MB of texts and Samsung Messages not being able to handle a database that large. Switching back to Google's Messenger fixed the crashing and failed sends.

Biggest gripe of all is the edge screen. If you're like me you got the phone for the nice large display. I had no interest in the actual features of the edge screen, and in fact the thing gets in the way most of the time like what you described. I turned off all edge features in the settings, and bought this case www.amazon.com/dp/B01BD02SD2/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_DWLvxbPTMCAKY which solved all of my problems.

I still do miss my N5 and debated taking my S7E back for the entire first week I owned it. Especially once #bootloadergate became well-known, I considered exchanging for the G5. But in the end the pros you mentioned outweighed the cons and I'm happy with my decision to keep it. I've adjusted pretty well to TouchWiz, albeit combined with all the Google Nexus flavoring I could pack in.

Feel free to pm me if you have any more questions on the adjustment. I LOVED my N5. Still have it plugged in at my bedside for when I'm feeling the itch to tinker around (it sadly won't boot under its own power any more).

I use Spigen slim armor card case. Its not a wallet case but I can usually store up to 2 cards and a couple bills folded flat in there. Anything more it might start bulking in the back. Otherwise Ive been using spigens products and have been more than great. Ive used this case even when I used an iphone before i switched to android.

As for screen protector I use the armorsuit. It covers the edges nicely and fits with the case. Ive had this screen protector for about 3 to 4 months now and still responsive and working great!

I really like my case. It's pretty thin but has corner bumpers and a lip on the front so it's good for minor bumps or falls and is protected from scratches on the back or when face down on a flat surface. I would recommend it as a nice balance of clear low profile and a bit of protection, plus I have no issues at all with wireless charging or using the edge panel.

I just got this case yesterday and love it! It is as good as an OtterBox (although it does not have the plastic screen protector) for less than half the price. $17.99 @ Amazon

I am using an Armorsuit screen protector, which is also pretty cool. Installation is a bit daunting but it seems to be great so far. Good luck.

Zerolemon is known for making ridiculously huge batteries. I received this one just yesterday, so I can't say too much about it yet, but it seems to work well. It is admittedly quite huge and heavy.

I have had Zerolemon batteries in the past for my S3 and S5. They are great, but (like most batteries) have a limited lifespan. I won't be shocked if it dies (or just swells up) after 1-2 years. I just accept that I'll have to replace them every year or two, and in the meantime I get to enjoy days of battery life.

Note that you lose NFC and Qi charging with almost all battery cases.

Anyway, my plan is to not use the Zerolemon battery in normal daily life (so that I can use Qi charging and have it not be so huge and heavy), but have it around for traveling, music festivals, and other situations where I really use the phone heavily and need it to to work all day for important things like navigation.

Here's the protectors I got.

Nice and clear, application was a bit of a pain. Followed the video exactly and still had to try several times to get it on right, but it's still not perfect. Unfortunately, they don't give you enough solution for multiple attempts, so I can't even try again.

Quality wise, they are pretty good, not great. Still have that squishy, gel-like feel, but I guess that's just film. Next time, I'll be going glass.

I picked up this case:
http://www.amazon.com/Spigen%C2%AE-PREMIUM-Premium-Protective-Samsung/dp/B01B1I6JMM

Wireless charging works great with it on, and the case is very nice. I like it. Often I buy a few cases before I find one I like, I think I did well on my first try with this phone.

I use [this one] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01ACXRZNY/ref=sxts3?ie=UTF8&qid=1469317605&sr=3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65) with my unicorn beetle pro case. The case friendly version slightly lifted up with this case, but this screen protector has stayed on perfect and covers the entire screen. A lot of people like the skinomi or iq shields as well.

u/Inoimispel · 1 pointr/S7Edge

I got the unicorn beetle from amazon. Cheap but built surprisingly well. It is designed with a bezel the clicks into place around the the front of the screen and holds down the edges to any screen protector you add.

I got the Zagg soft screen protector but I see the Yootech gets excellent reviews on Amazon for a fraction of the price.

u/hbomb4444 · 2 pointsr/S7Edge

I tried several screen protectors from amazon and the're garbage. Do yourself a favor and head over to best buy and have them put the geek squad one on. It cost me $30 CDN but it's the only option that isn't crap and they guarantee it. I have this case and it's fantastic. https://www.amazon.ca/Spigen%C2%AE-Resilient-Ultimate-protection-impacts/dp/B01A7IDHOU/ref=sr_1_5?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1466553684&sr=1-5&keywords=s7+edge+case

u/Art0fLife · 1 pointr/S7Edge

Not really. I have in the past, when I first got it. Just because I could and thought that was kind of neat. For two reasons though mainly. Number 1 because a shower is about a 5 minute max thing for me. It just doesn't take much time to wash head to toe. So no need for music or YouTube as some seem to do. But most of all, sometimes it's just nice to get away from the thing. I love tech but I'm also a fan of the days when I wasn't connected to everything every moment and could enjoy a shower or read a book in bed without interruption.

As for cases, I swear by this one.

u/exelero88 · 2 pointsr/S7Edge

I use Spigen Rugged Armor and Spigen Neo Hybrid Crystal.

They provide good protection without adding much bulk. The rugged armor feels a bit better than the neo hybrid crystal but the neo hybrid crystal is transparent and sometimes I just love looking at this gorgeous back.

u/Swaginator_v2 · 2 pointsr/S7Edge

Paid $14 for it. Ordered the Cherry wood. It looks and feels great just like real wood. Definitely not a case for drop protection, but it does get complimented a lot.

u/umjammerlammy · 5 pointsr/S7Edge

I use this case, dropped it a few times and it's protected the phone back and edges.

I use this in tandem with the case, best screen protector on the market.

u/TheBG · 2 pointsr/S7Edge

The S7 Edge is impossible for me to use without a case because my hands hit the edge of the screen and it's uncomfortable. I highly recommend https://www.amazon.com/Spigen-Cushion-Technology-Protection-Samsung/dp/B01AUR1362 looks great and has worked wonderfully when I drop my phone.

u/ModuleNerd · 1 pointr/S7Edge

I don’t think they exist. Best I found was this 360 gel case that I liked for the phone Galaxy S7 EDGE Case, Spots8 Full Body Protection Case WIth Anti-Scratch Built In Screen Protector For Galaxy S7 EDGE https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EO36ZEI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_AM8TBbTVM5ZJM

u/legos_on_the_brain · 2 pointsr/S7Edge

I just ordered some of those OEM buds. The S7 headphones have been some of the best I have ever used.

I wanted to add that the Samsung active headphones seem to be the same thing in another color.

u/MntyBntz · 1 pointr/S7Edge

So far for me only two screen protectors have worked, otterbox alpha glass and iq shield which has a lifetime warranty. There are tons of other good options but almost none of them will fit with a case.

iQ Shield

u/BeatEmLikeLiam · 1 pointr/S7Edge

I recently bought an armorsuit screen protector. The tempered glass protectors aren't really great for the s7 edge, mostly because I've heard that they don't stay on properly with the curved display. This one is pretty good quality, and it has a set up video that you can watch if you aren't an expert at applying screen protectors. Comes with the protector, cleaning/application fluid, a squeegee, and a microfiber cloth with instructions.

and for days/activities i may be more worried about drops and rough conditions i have a Vena Slim Tough Wave armor case

I just got this case: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01A7IDHOU?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00

Works well, and I still have edge functionality. I've been using the edge night clock, and with DND on I don't get any notifications. TBH I wasn't sure I'd like it, but I definitely do.

u/ga9213 · 3 pointsr/S7Edge

I'm quite careful with mine and was a fan of the spigen rugged armor for my Nexus 6P so that's what I'm going with again here. Very slim, yet adequate protection for the occasional minor drop.

Here's what I'm working with:

u/geilt78 · 2 pointsr/S7Edge

I have the Spigen Liquid Crystal case.
https://www.amazon.com/Spigen%C2%AE-Crystal-Ultra-Thin-Semi-transparent-Bulkiness/dp/B01A7IDF3S
This is the first phone I've had that I've used a case on, mainly because it's so damn slippery!
Plus, if you have the Gear VR, this case is easy to take off.

Most caselogic and spigen work. Though the plastic ones from Caseology do not and they are thin. Seems to be if they are a hard plastic shell type case, it will interfere.

Both of these work:
