I've been pretty happy with Blackvue cams. I've owned the DR650S-2CH and DR750S-2CH, both of which include a model of rear-facing camera you can mount internally (e.g., Lyft/Uber driver) or on the back window, or one that can mount to the cab of your truck, or has IR LEDs to see in the car at night. They've worked well, and the hardwiring kits are pretty nice with options to turn off automatically after X hours or when the battery reaches a certain voltage.

My DR650S eventually died, I think due to electrical issues my car's ECU was causing. Most of the other electronics started going wonky until the ECU gave up the ghost and caused an explosion in the intake manifold, cracking half the engine. Until it fried, it was very reliable as long as the cheap microSD card I was using needed to be reformatted, and the videos it recorded were pretty decent.

On my current car I've installed the DR750S just recently. This time instead of the Power Magic Pro hardwiring kit, I decided to go with the Power Magic Battery Pack. The battery's hardwired into the electrical system on a circuit that only has power when the car's running, and I placed the battery in the glove compartment so that I can use the USB ports on it if needed for like a Wi-Fi hotspot. The 750S has been fantastic and the video quality's great. Just gotta take the time to adjust the accelerometer sensitivity and whatnot.

I also picked up a polarized lens filter which fit both models, and that helps cut down on the glare and helps keep the video from getting too bright. I also picked up much better microSD cards for the 750 to avoid the issues I had on the 650. The only real complaints I've had with them are around the apps used to connect to the camera (both desktop and mobile), and the Wi-Fi support. Basically, both units only have 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, and can only support network SSIDs and passwords of up to a certain length. I have the Wi-Fi access point closest to the garage transmitting a second network just for the dashcam to connect to as a result. The apps feel very much like someone's one-day project when you use them, but more frustrating is that you can only sign-in on one device at a time. So if you sign-in to desktop, it'll sign you out of the mobile app, and vice-versa.

I have a friend who, in one hearing, went from having a restraining order (w/supervised visitation) against her ex, to losing primary custody and no RO.

If you are able to pursue this more, here's few resources FYI:

https://www.amazon.com/Women-CourtWatch-Reforming-Corrupt-Family/dp/0292709587

This book recounts the inspiring and courageous story of women activists who came together to oppose Houston's family court judges and whose political action committee, CourtWatch, played a crucial role in defeating five of the judges in the 1994 judicial election. Carole Bell Ford draws on extensive interviews with Florence Kusnetz, the attorney who led the reform effort, and other CourtWatch veterans, as well as news accounts, to provide a full history of the formation, struggles, and successes of a women's grassroots organization that overcame powerful political interests to improve Houston's family courts. More than just a local story, however, this history of CourtWatch provides a model that can be used by activists in other communities in which legal and social institutions have gone astray. As a college student and father, I couldn't afford an attorney and had to learn how to navigate the sometimes perilous and oft stressful court system. I ultimately was awarded primary physical custody of our son, and throughout the process, I won four appeals to the Supreme Court of Nevada, and was published on an original writ petition. I graduated and become a software engineer, and later the court terminated my ex's parental rights. My choice of the name "The Proper Person" is a reflection of the designation before a court that a person representing themselves is appearing "in proper person".
I maintain a website that tracks statistical data on Nevada judges

"..I have 32 years experience dealing with Family Law. 24 years as a law enforcement officer, the last 8 years as a Child Custody and Divorce Coach...... While still a law enforcement officer I spent ten years researching Family Law. In the process I identified that Family Law may be responsible for 25% of the crime in the United States; homicides, suicides, child abuse, abductions, domestic violence, violation of restraining orders, violation of court orders, stalking and more."

This disk lock/alarm thingy I got off Amazon is pretty cheap and awesome, if you’re looking to up your lock game.

It’s designed for motorcycles, but I lock it to my bike sometimes when I’m downtown, and it’s great. It’s loud enough to make ears bleed, and won’t let the wheels turn to ride it away, even if they could stand the sound.

MOAR TACKLE

Canopy Grenades

S-Wavers

Whopper Ploppers

Phenix Abyss 808

A few G Loomis Rods in your price range

New PFD

Sort of impersonal, but anybody would love a Tackle Warehouse Gift Card.

If you know where he puts in, you could also buy a years worth of launching fees.

The MSF certificate plus your learner's permit should get you your M1 license without taking the riding test. I took the written test, then took MSF, turned in my certificate, and got my M1. That was back in 2003, so maybe it's different now.

I bought an '03 Ninja 250 new for $3,500 or so, rode it exclusively for a year, and since then it's got occasional miles on it. Mine has 15k miles. I chose to get a new one because I am not a good mechanic and I didn't want to have problems with the bike while I was learning. One big downside to buying new is the engine break-in period. Basically my top speed was 35MPH for 500 miles and 55MPH until 1,000 miles. I was learning though, so I stuck to side streets and it was good to keep it slow. I couldn't commute until I got to 3k miles. At my first fill-up, during the break-in period, I got 92MPG! After I started driving more vigorously my economy dropped to about 65MPG. Now the carbs are a little dirty and I get about 55.

A 250 is absolutely a great beginner bike, and you can stick with that size if you have the temperament for it. I expect there to be a lot of 250's out there cheaper than the one you found, but listings won't pick up until just before spring.

One reason a 250 may not work for you is if you are over 200 pounds. I had to upgrade the rear shock on mine because it was either causing or worsening some lower back pain. The upgrade was from a newer model Ninja, though, so maybe that's not an issue after 2003.

Make sure to budget for gear. I think I spent $1k on gear at the time I got the bike. Also budget for insurance. At the time I got the bike, insurance was much cheaper than for an auto.

Thanks for pointing this out! I did some Google Street views, and, as I suspected, a lot of the homes that have not been renovated in this area are what is known as Cinderella homes. These were midcentury storybook homes that they started to build in southern California in the 1950s.

They were called "Cinderella homes" because their layout was apparently supposed to help make housework easy and free the "modern Cinderella" (i.e., stay-at-home housewives) from the drudgery of housework.

If you want to read more about them, there is a photography-focused book entitled All You Can Lose Is Your Heart. It's also available for checkout from the Central branch of the library.

Oh I agree it wont be safe, I don't think its going to be safe anywhere in the event it happens.

My main concern is that if you do find a shelter that is open and will allow you in the filters and fans most likely will not be working. Which means none of the radioactive dust that is floating in the air is going to get filtered out.

You might be able to find gas/dust masks that can filter out super fine particles (the biggest threat from fallout is inhaling the radioactive dust). I'd also suggest purchasing iodine pills or liquid:
https://www.amazon.com/iOSAT-Potassium-Iodide-Tablets-130/dp/B00006NT3A

Radioactive iodine will be the majority of the radioactive particles that get attached to the dust. Your thyroid is the main user of iodine in your body so they tend to get sent to that location. If you can replace or fill up the iodine receptors in your thyroid before ingesting the radioactive ones then hopefully your body will excrete the radio active particles over time.

There are other radioactive elements that get produced during the explosion like francium, americium and there are med's available to help get rid of those but they are Rx only and usually reserved for military.

a Tyvek zip up suit might not be a bad idea either, this will help limit your skin exposure.

There is a book 60 Hikes Within 60 Miles: Sacramento. They sell it at REI and Pipeworks. Its full of suggestions.

I would say in that general direction look at Cosumnes River Preserve Trails or Lodi lake nature trail

And if you are going to be in that area try for a winery in Lodi. You'll get better quality in both scenery and wine from somewhere like the Michael David winery or Jessie's Grove.

For future use... Lodi is only about 30-40 min drive and has some great wineries that are far less crowded and offer cheaper tastings then Napa.

I think the Sennheiser 558's would be a better purchase for gaming. They have great positional audio due to the open back, as long as you don't care if people around you hearing your game, then they're definitely one of the best purchases in that price range. Antlion mod mics and zalman clip ons are great for the convenience and little space they use, but they don't sound too great (very tinny), a blue snowball will give way clearer voice but I'm not sure if the ps4 supports it.

I recommend buying a breathalyzer - you can an ok one for as cheap as $40 on Amazon. It's real benefit is that it will help you develop an intuitive association between how physically feel and what your BAC measures.

All his books are good. I especially enjoyed reading about the rise of the punk scene in Sacramento. You won't get that history anywhere else.

Also recommend "Lost Restaurants of Sacramento and Their Recipes" by Maryellen Burns.

u/ryuns · 3 pointsr/Sacramento

No specific recommendations (sorry), but will second the recommendations to use a fee only planner, and use a tool like Mint to track your spending. Since this is something that will pay dividends (heh) for the rest of your life, I'd suggest finding a good book to go over as well. This is my favorite.

I work in HVAC, not a lawyer. My understanding is that you are legally entitled to a working furnace, but working AC isn't legally required. We've had many interactions with tenants who, like you, would like to somehow intervene in the approval process to speed things up. The problem is that you don't own the equipment, so you can't give us permission to work on it. Realize that if you take matters into your own hands, they are not legally obligated to reimburse you (AFAIK) and could probably hold you liable for any actual or assumed damage done by a contractor that you hire without their consent. This is important because it isn't always easy to tell exactly what caused any machine to fail. You don't want them to have the option to blame you.

Therefore, given your other comments about your rental rate and the inactivity of the property owner, why don't you get a window unit for your bedroom? The cheapest options are about $350, but you can always get a used one off of CL. Make sure you get one that runs off of 120 volts, as many need 240 volts which will not run on on a standard plug. This would work.

The other option is an evaporative cooler like this which is much cheaper and still works well in a pinch. It will add humidity to the air, but definitely helps in making the heat bearable (like 75 degrees or so down from 95).

Sorry you're having problems! Problems suck, I hope this has been helpful :D

I love my Amazon shirt here, but they also have quite a few other varieties available. Just search for Sacramento or even “city of trees”

I’d like to see it go back too. But Sacramento seems to be all-in with “farm to fork”, as both an regional identity and as a marketing slogan, so I’m skeptical it will go back.

So where do I get one?

Edit: never mind its on Amazon
