It would be adequate, but not ideal. Get as big a tank as you can afford, both price-wise and size-wise. More volume means more stability, the ability to select larger fish specimens, and, overall, less headaches. Sumps are great and if you can afford the extra expense/setup time, you will never regret getting one. You can get another tank, maybe 15 gallon, and put your skimmer/heaters in there, as well as more rock. It's a great place to add supplements and increase your water volume.
Read and research all you can now. It's much harder to change things after you've got creatures living in your tank. Two great, essential books: http://www.amazon.com/The-New-Marine-Aquarium-Step-By-Step/dp/1890087521 and http://www.amazon.com/The-Conscientious-Marine-Aquarist-Professional/dp/1890087998

The key here is patience. Yes, it's hard work, but most of the hard work is only at the beginning if you plan it right and don't rush it. Good luck! Feel free to ask me more questions.
Don't know if you got equipment yet but I started with a 55 hex. I only switched to rectangular 55 because the other half found a great deal for us.
I use a fluvial e series heater they are much cheaper on amazon then what the retail stores sell them at. I believe 200 watt is what I use for 55 gallons. I use this filter it is completely silent http://www.amazon.com/SunSun-Hw302-264GPH-Canister-Filter/dp/B00MGX7JXA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1457790868&sr=8-2&keywords=sunsun+canister+filter I just used the stuff that came with it. I switch out the carbon once a month and one filter pad once a month. I also get rid of gunk if there is any in there.
Chromies school and stay towards the top of the tank, trying to have levels in my hex is why I have those fish. They are fun to watch.
Thanks! Also, how much does the power compact lights usually raise the water temp by? If i put one of those aquarium chiller fans in between the lights and water would that help?
EDIT: i looked at the Corals on the sites you gave and they're beautiful thanks!
I use this one on my 2.5, it's very blue but can grow at least softies: Wave-point 6-Inch 8-Watt Super Blue and Daylight Micro Sun LED High Output Clamp Light https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007ZK80YG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_Ogi-Bb17DDP62
I also was talking to a guy at a frag swap who recommended this one: HIPARGERO LED Aquarium Light – Aquarium LED Lights 30W Saltwater Lighting with Touch Control and 3W Cree Chips for Coral Reef Fish Nano Tank (New) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0727V8C5Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_pji-Bb2CRC2NN
Why would something like this not work? I'm pretty ignorant to lights, so please correct me if I'm wrong.
