LMAO, I don't know why we have octopus, just saw it in a video, happy for suggestions!

We are running Android 9 on an S8+, so it has the dual screen feature (which really confused me initially lol).

We are using the PDP Xbox/PC controller. Again, he can use this direct connection to phone but not here =(

Since the actual dex dock was really cost-prohibitive, we grabbed this one from Ugreen. Since it was being detected via other software I didn't think this was the issue. Seemingly works perfectly.

We were using Apple's magic mouse and keyboard via bluetooth, and they kept getting disconnected. I kept having to go into BT settings to reconnect. Also didn't let me do the 2 at once for most of the time then randomly just...did. Thinking of grabbing this cheaper setup from Insignia (he's a Best Buy employee) with an actual dongle hoping that will help (thoughts?).

I have the Asus Zenscreen portable monitor (MB16AC) and had a ton of trouble getting it to work consistently on my note 9. I believe the lower models of the monitor work but have not tried the newest version. Also, an Amazon reviewer uploaded a video where it launches fine, but if you look closely it is one of the lower models. I think the problem was power related so I was hoping the newest battery powered version of the screen (MB16AP) would work. (After reading some newer reviews, the battery version apparently works fine)


Pretty much Dex would load randomly on my Zenscreen and other times only screen mirroring as it would say it didn't have enough power to power the attached device (monitor). I found a work around to force Dex to launch, but it involved plugging it into a specific hub I had and then replugging it into the monitor. If you want more details check out my post history as it was quite a while ago.

Hope that helps. I'm curious to see if you end up getting a screen and how it works out.

Edit: realized I didn't fully answer your question. You can find a usbc hub with display (HDMI usually) and also offers power delivery (PD) for charging via a usbc input to plug the charging cable into. They also sell just the usbc to HDMI cable, with the PD option as well. I'd suggest a hub as they come in really small sizes now and will give you additional ports. In my story above, when Dex did load properly, if I put it into a wireless charger it would immediately crash and revert to screen mirroring.

I've read some posts where some of the cheaper hubs doesn't work properly so you might want to check out the reviews or the /Galaxynote9 subreddit for references/links.

Yeh I have no lag on Dex for PC when selecting things and moving the mouse around. When playing videos I can notice a small amount of judder in the picture but otherwise fine.

Only things I can think to check are that you're running the latest version of Dex for PC and your phone has the latest updates installed.

You might also find an improvement using USB C and USB 3.0 in a 3.0 port but since the last Dex for PC update I'm happy the lag has gone.

I'm using this hub: iBosi Cheng USB to HDMI Adapter, Type C to HDMI Adapter, VGA to HDMI Adapter with SD/TF Card Reader, USB C to HDMI Cable

It is only $16, but it offers THREE USB ports in addition to the HDMI port and two card reader slots (and of course, the USB C port for power in from a charger). I have tested it with a wired keyboard, wired mouse, AND a USB flash drive at the same time, and it works fine. It does get warm, but it is all metal (vs plastic) so it sheds heat pretty well.

It's small and light enough that I just toss it in my bag, and its cheap enough that I wouldn't mind getting a second one of I lost it.

My go to keyboard is the LG Rolly Keyboard 2. Its great to travel with and surprisingly comfortable for how portable it is. It can connect to 3 different devices at a time and you can switch between them easily. I want to get a mouse that is more portable, but I take my MX Master everywhere I go. The surface mouse is enticing though...

For the dex pad interference I would reccomend a usb extension cable. This is the one I am using.


And for remote desktop I have had a great experience with Remotix. It has resizable windows that use microsoft RDP.

I use this with my DeX station. Neither the Phone or DeX station notice or care about it being there. Still charges and acts like it is not there.
