The Baranof on Greenwood is a good dive bar. As is the Kort Haus (known for its exotic meats and proximity to the Zoo)

If you are into dive bars there is a really good book of Seattle dive bars. Came out a few years ago but is probably still a good source.

Pretty cheap kindle book, and you don't even really need to buy it: you can just get the list of bars from the Amazon "peek inside" free preview thing. Most of them are still open but some are not...the Buckaroo for instance is closed. Man I am glad I took a few minutes to look through that...it is really an excellent list of Seattle bars.

Ok, no-one has given the right answer yet, which is clearly, unequivocally, the Aeropress. I've been through many different machines for making coffee, and this one is better than every single other previous device by a factor of at least 10. French press was the previous best alternative, and even it's not even close.

It's fast and simple to use, simple to clean, and produces the best tasting coffee you can possibly imagine. And it's only $25! You can't go wrong. Trust me.

Sorry... nobody has 2 grand to spend on a macbook that really should cost only 1 grand but they charge an extra grand cause its white and says 'apple' on it.

Edit: All these downvotes from ignorant people. Here I will prove it to you that you spend hundreds of dollars more on a macbook than you do on other laptops simply because it has the apple logo on it and for no other reason. In fact the macbooks even have very noticeably worse specs. It is an undeniable ripoff.

Comparison 1: Macbook Pro(s) VS Lenovo - respectable brand which are known for duability and once known for some of the best laptop keyboards if not the best on the entire market(not so much in this department anymore). Same price as the Macbook Pro(s) but triple the specs and even a 6 inch advantage(almost 50% larger) advantage on the screen size.

Comparison 2: Macbook Pro(s) VS MSI - This one is only 899 so almost $300 cheaper than the Macbooks and again has way better specs, and again an almost 7 inch advantage on screen size.

Comparison 3: Macbook Pro(s) VS Acer - this one is only 700 and again has way better specs than any of the macbook pros.

And this is only comparing the mid range of the Macbooks. After Macbook Pros the price jumps from 2 - 4 grand and the specs are STILL worse than anything you can buy on the market for that price. Apple products are overpriced and ripoffs, only apple zombies don't realize this.

I have one of these in my car, works great:
https://www.amazon.com/Black-Box-Original-Dashboard-Dash/dp/B00FONBG1A

Records at a nice clear 1080p and I can identify plates for sure during the day and mostly at night. Really easy to install, I just leave mine plugged into the cig lighter and it includes a tool to help tuck the cable out of the way along the headliner and a-pilar.

All of the FS roads are on Google Maps and Google Earth.

Or: http://data.fs.usda.gov/geodata/rastergateway/states-regions/regions_zoom.php?regionID=r6

Also lots of good information at https://www.reddit.com/r/pnwrider

You can also search for Green Dot roads, which are roads on DNR land that you are allowed to drive on. https://washingtondnr.wordpress.com/2015/10/28/explore-dnr-managed-lands-from-green-dot-roads/

Each of the Forest Service websites for the National Forests has a "road and trail conditions" link that can be pretty useful.

Go out and explore - that's the best way, I think. I've found a few spots on short spurs near Bon Jon Pass out of Quilcene.

This book is also a good starting point: http://www.amazon.com/Wild-Roads-Washington-Camping-Adventures/dp/1570618151/ref=pd_sim_14_1?ie=UTF8&dpID=511aE7VeSpL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR104%2C160_&refRID=0GE9WY136T7XMTGGCDK8

check out these links. reading the recent reports from others is the best way to find current conditions. Another great resource is one of the local winter hikes books. My wife got me some winter hike trip cards for the holidays. If the snow level is 1500 feet, any hikes near the sound that are under 1500 feet will be snowfree. There are a ton of great options on the kitsap peninsula, whidbey island and in some of the foothills to the east of seattle and everett.

Care about your leather the proper way.

There quite a few youtube tutorials about that.

You will need to gather a kit of 3-4 different chemicals (cleaner, softener, cream, wax), two brushes (soft and hard) and some sponges. Then clean your leather every or every other month. Make sure to give enough time between every stage of the cleaning (i.e. apply cleaning solution, buff in, wait 15 mins, buff out).
Should take about 45 minutes once you get a hold of it. You can do like 3 pairs in these 45 mins.

Or take to shoe repair store and and ask 'em to do a deep cleaning on 'em.

Here is the kit I bought on Amazon for this purpose (hope it is OK to post product links here - I get no kickback from these):

Not specifically about the waterfront, but anyone who is interested in Seattle history should read Skid Road. Actually, I kind of wish reading it was a condition for anyone moving here because it would prevent a lot of culture clash if newcomers understood Seattle's roots better.

Some slightly dubious, but entertaining and probably generally accurate, history is in Bill Spiedel's books Sons of the Profits and Doc Maynard. Spiedel was the guy who came up with the Underground Tour and his books have a bit of that showman's tendency to choose the good story over the documented event. But his argument that Doc Maynard was the pivotal figure in Seattle's early development and not just the town drunk that the Dennys made him out to be after he died is pretty convincing.

Somewhat related: After having witnessed many buses in Seattle running red lights (which doesn't seem to be the case with this story) I started a (admittedly super boring) YouTube channel "Cars Running Reds" with dashcam footage from my car. My second video shows a bus blatantly running a red light, downtown followed by a taxi. A completely common occurrence here.

I use a pretty cheap Blackbox G1W purchased from Amazon. Really easy to install. When the memory card gets full, it overwrites the oldest files. I bought it for peace of mind having purchased a new car last year and also been the victim of a hit and run here in Seattle.

Skid Row is a great non-fiction choice, compelling read as well. You can pick it at the underground tour gift shop or probably any tourist hot spot.

I have something like this, but not quite so fancy:

http://www.amazon.com/Bionaire-BW2300-Window-Remote-Control/dp/B000065DKJ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1367432894&sr=8-1&keywords=window+fan

The key that really helps is that you can have the blades run for both inbound, or one each direction. Really helps circulate the air with the outside.

Because merging early wastes roadway capacity. There are books on this sort of thing if you are interested (I know, super nerdy topic).

Traffic is a good one

Get a couple window fans. Put them at opposite ends of your apartment and set one to blow air in(shade side of the building) and the other to blow air out. That will get air flowing though the apt/condo.

Hopefully that helps :)

The best beans in the world will only go so far if you grind them at the store weeks in advance then run them through a Mr. Coffee. If you want to up your coffee game at home, I'd highly recommend an Aeropress plus a cheap burr grinder (automatic or manual).

If you're curious about psychological factors contributing to why we drive the way we do I highly recommend reading "Traffic" by Tom Vanderbuilt:
