Go to a Dollar store and buy the battery there. It's just a normal 2032 flat cell and they usually come in three packs. Since it's such a slow drain, even the cheap brands last a long time, at least a year.

That controller's O.K. I have a couple myself though I prefer either the 3D analog pad or the Model 2 controller; which I just very recently bought for the first time.

Also you didn't look at the shipping, which costs more then the controller asking price!

Here's some links for a controller and things to buy now / eventually.

Look here for the same controller you linked

Try here for a 3D pad

Get one of these!

Get a 4in1 RAM cart Here or Here

More in the future:

Get a Scart cable

And a Scart to HDMI converter

For best picture that's upscaled RGB and will work nicely with any HDTV

To play backups you can do the swap disk trick but first you must know...

If you have a Saturn model 1 with oval buttons and a disk access light; which can indicate when to swap the disk

Or

If you have the Saturn model 2 with round buttons and no access light. The swap trick is a bit harder on this model due to this and increased security but still doable.

Watch Youtube to learn the swap trick on either:

The Saturn Model 1 Swap Trick

Or

The Saturn Model 2 Swap Trick

Just remember not to rip and plow the disk on and off, there's grooved in spaces to get under the disk and you can use left / right leverage with your hand to nicely pop it off. If done properly with minimal force you should be able to do this for a very long time as I have.

You can now boot any burned game for the system. Just watch the country codes on downloads Ie (U), (J), (E). Without the 4in1 cart you just use this software to change the country code of the .ISO.

Grab downloadable games at Emuparadise and TheISOzone

Explore the North American release list for games to find online and most certainly explore the Japanese release list which is more then four times the size, with tons of great games never released here.

That's it. Enjoy the Saturn!

RGB out through SCART will look the best, especially with a good upscaler like OSSC or Framemeister.

If you want to avoid SCART probably try an Saturn S-Video Cable and run it into a Retro Tink that doubles the lines, like others have mentioned.

Getting the best video from these old consoles can turn into a huge trip into the rabbit hole of cables and upscalers, best of luck to you!

I'll definitely let you know! However, I must ask - how are you sure that the upscaler I linked is the same as yours? Apparently there's a ton of different "brands" out there that look the same, but inside they're quite different and while some produce acceptable results, others aren't so hot. From my research, the best performing generic SCART converter would be this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Converter-ELEPHAS-Adapter-Support-Set-top-Black/dp/B00RMMGOGS

Note the brand is ELEPHAS, while the one I've linked is VCANDO. Unless you own the VCANDO brand? Heck, I'm not even sure the generic upscalers will have parity among their own brand! Seems like another rabbit hole in and of itself.

I use this 4-in-1 For that you need to do one disk swap to reflash the cart with pseudosaturn, but then you can play imports and back-ups. it's not hard to do yourself and you may save some cash

I haven't had any issues on my japanese saturn playing backups imports or US games with that method. (I have played Panzer Dragoon Zwei and legend this way) The switch on the one you linked sounds cool for switching between the ram modes, but very few games would need you to be able to do that.

It's also possible that Alcohol 120% isn't mounting the image correctly. I create CDI images using DiscJuggler and Daemon Tools 3.47 in a Windows XP virtual machine, but obviously that's not the most trivial thing to set up. An alternative way of creating Rhea/Phoebe images is to use Daemon Tools Lite and CD Manipulator; both of these programs are free and work on Windows 10. The correct settings for CD Manipulator can be found here.

My Sandisk 128GB microSD card is formatted exactly like yours. This is the particular SD card that I use:

Yes, it's very much worth it. If you're on a budget I recommend the following:

SCART Cable:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00UKLIY3E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Scaler Box:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00988GMLG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I use these with my Sony 4K and they work great. Very sharp, good sound and no noticeable lag.

u/BeWithMe · 1 pointr/SegaSaturn

Curious: do you use any upscalers to play, or do you play on a classic tube TV?

I recently got one of these and play on an HD Plasma.

u/JoshuaPearce · 1 pointr/SegaSaturn

It's one of the unbranded generic ones. All over ebay and amazon under different names.

And yes, it does 4:3 just fine, that's the only mode I'll accept. It even outputs letterbox bars on all four sides, but I can't guarantee every version will be the same.

https://www.amazon.ca/SCART-Video-Converter-Scaler-Coaxial/dp/B00MUNIVRO

> I don't have anything against SCART mind you, just would rather have a single box I can use for both (unmodded)

I get it. A device which can do both is the ideal, right?

u/eljiggeh · 1 pointr/SegaSaturn

It's a generic one that I've seen sold under different brand names from different sellers, but here's an example: https://www.amazon.co.uk/SCART-HDMI-converter-convert-connect/dp/B0092IAA3I?ie=UTF8&camp=1634&creative=19450&creativeASIN=B0092IAA3I&linkCode=as2&redirect=true&ref_=as_li_ss_tl&tag=hdmiheroscarttohdmi-21

I have not been able to test with a TV or other setups. I suppose it could be helpful to isolate the issue, but the goal is still to use the console with my capture/PC setup. If I get the chance to test with other setups I'll make sure to report back.

I have a Model 1 Sega Saturn hooked up using an SCART cable and an SCART to HDMI converter. Output is absolutely beautiful! You might want to start here: http://retrorgb.com/saturn.html The cable can be found on EBay, and I bought the converter off of Amazon (prob can find a cheaper one on Ebay).
Cables:

Converter: I have something similar to this:

Don’t know where you’ve been looking, but this is what I use. £22.99 plus free delivery.

US mains electricity is only slightly higher voltage than Japanese mains electricity so you should be able to use a Japanese system in North America without a step-down transformer (and many do).

If you really wanted to confirm the power supply can handle the slightly higher voltage you'd need to look at the PCB, as the back of the console will only indicate 100V. This one is rated at 85V-132V, for example, so would work fine in Japan or North America. You'd need to check your own power supply though to see what it could handle.

Otherwise they do sell step-down transformers like this but it could well be unnecessary.

The Saturn will work with your HDTV out of the box as long as it has input for composite (standard yellow/white/red cable). If you want a better picture, you're in luck since the Saturn doesn't require any hardware mods to output in RGB.

You can get a RGB SCART cable and you'll need a converter box if you live outside Europe.

Then there's the Framemeister, but the price of admission goes up dramatically.

Is the proper tool. Push in the plunger, heat up the solder spot till it gets all shinny and mash the button. I sucks it up and your done. $10 is a great price.

This is the cheopo route I use on my Japan Model 2. I'm happy the picture with it except the lack of scart shielding on the cable leaves audio noise on my LCD, on my plasma is noise free though. The cable is region neutral with a 175ohm fuse I checked so it's not the cheap 75ohm that sometimes don't register rgb mode. This obviously isn't ideal for input lag and scanlines.

You're talking about game cases, correct? If so, this Etsy seller does some fantastic work:

Of course, you can also buy some cases yourself and print your own custom artwork for a very low price.

Any old power cord that looks like https://www.amazon.com/Power-Cable-Compatible-2-Slot-Listed/dp/B07CWK9JBM will work if you are on 120V or 110V. I haven't had any issues in 23 years running Japanese consoles on USA power at 120V.
