Yes, there's a market for all body types. Many sex workers are pleasantly surprised at the level of demand for their "look". However, you will likely need to hustle more and it may take you a little longer to find your audience if you don't have a classically beautiful body. CamModelMom has tips on getting started as a plus size cam model.

You can get started with just your computer's webcam or a phonecam. People have shot feature films on phone cameras.

The key to getting good video out of a phone camera is to learn to take advantage of natural lighting, and lights you already may have (such as desklamps, worklights, Christmas lights). I recommend reading about how to light / film yourself first, then decide what kind of lighting you need:

I work Streamate and have been a full time cam girl/escort for 4 years. Equipment matters! The better your stream, the better your traffic, visibility, and money.

  1. Ideally you need a laptop or computer with an i5 or i7 processor

  2. Technically no, you don't NEED a fancy cam. But if you want to make money, you should invest in one. The most popular cam for camgirls right now is the Logitech c920, which runs 60-70$ currently.

  3. Invest in a set of umbrella lights. I use these. They're $40 on amazon:

  4. The more time you put into cam and treat it as an actual, real job, the more $$ you will make.

I suggest you get a tripod and Bluetooth remote trigger for your phone. Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NO3SK6Q/ or this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00I58VB3Y/

This simple bracket will do as a standard tripod mount: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Camera-Stand-Clip-Bracket-Holder-Monopod-Tripod-Mount-Adapter-for-Cell-phone-BL-/191372113359

Then add a regular tripod: http://www.target.com/p/targus-extendable-tripod-50-tg-5060tr/-/A-10958572 or http://www.walmart.com/ip/Sunpak-5200D-Digital-Tripod/21499838

Now you have the minimal gear necessary to work out exactly what poses you want, and to practice getting the little details right without running up someone else's clock.

All cameras are just devices that capture light hitting a plane. The only real difference between decent cell phone cameras and pro DSLRs is the DSLRs give you control over depth of field and exposure time, and support a huge variety of filters. Filters can be applied digitally after the shoot. Even depth of field can be faked post-production, though I wouldn't recommend that.

If these self-made shots don't come out exactly how you'd like them / good enough for commercial use, after some hours of experimenting you'll at least have many close approximations to refer to as a reference for the pros.

I just happened to be going through a list of books for a project, and I was reminded of Buddha and the Borderline-- it's a great book written by someone with BPD-- it helps you to understand where they're coming from: https://www.amazon.com/Buddha-Borderline-Recovery-Personality-Dialectical/dp/157224710X/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1473873387&sr=1-1&keywords=buddha+and+the+borderline

I know I'm coming from a slightly outside perspective but:

Sliquid lube doesn't have any kind of flavor to it, and lube shooters make it really easy to insert (just be careful with air bubbles..). Been a personal witness to more than one "omg you taste so good and you're so wet!" mind blown.

Decoy phone is a good idea, I never thought of that. Even just a cheap prepaid phone that can be used in an emergency but is otherwise not worth much.

There are also keychain add ons like this that don't even look like weapons (and this just became legal in Texas):

And then I found this while browsing Amazon, which would be even better than keys:

Female condoms. They're crazy, I mean, it's just exactly like sticking a sandwich bag in your vagina, but you squirt a ton of lube in there, and it should feel just fine to your client. There's an added bonus of it providing more protection against herpes (HSV2) and HPV than male condoms.

Another tip, if they just won't do a female condom, or you hate them (the whole sandwich bag thing), Skyns condoms are made of a thinner material (it's not latex, it's a kind of a plastic called polyisoprene, and it's supposed to be exactly comparable to ordinary latex condoms for STD and pregnancy protection), and I've gotten good feedback from the type that moans about having to wear condoms. Especially the poor guys who never whine or fuss about wearing them, but have mentioned a latex allergy.

Third and final tip, get yourself a cheap, sterilizable one-size-fits-all or adjustable cock ring. It has saved many a date for me. The guys think I'm being so damned exotic and innovative, and it really appeals to their vanity to see their dick look bigger than usual (it's not actually bigger, just harder, and more veiny, but they don't know that). It can also make the sensation greater, if you're doing a teasing blowjob or handjob, and you can focus more on technique, since you don't need to worry about them going soft on you.

If you're interested, Temporarily Yours by Elizabeth Bernstein goes into a lot of detail about sex work in San Francisco. Prostitution laws have a lot to do with urban geography and gentrification. She did research in the 90's with street based sex workers, who were the target of policing. She sat in on a "john school", where the coordinators told the johns to go online to find sex workers, not on the streets. There is also a chapter on more recent (2004 I believe) middle class sex workers in the bay area.
