That last part gave me chills. I'm not one to think about a pole shift, but it can happen. The real crux of course, is, How Fast?

The planetary shift right now is primarily energetic. True spiritual renewal at this time would be too much and many lessons would go unlearned, many experiences unsought and unfelt.
So yes, very wise of you to feel this is still necessary as such.

Humans are just now exiting the Kali Yuga, the age of darkness. Our next one, the Dvapara yuga began, according to Lemurian Scrolls when "Man begins to light the night on his own."
Yugas are measured by the observation of the physics at play, not mechanical time.

Midnight is such a great notion! This makes me excited. It's the witching hour, when things are at their most mysterious.

It's also incredibly encouraging to know that things will be getting brighter from here, even if it take a little while.

The loneliness is leaving us somewhat, as the Dvapara yuga settles in I think the Astral is becoming closer to the physical.

Have you noticed this 'pull' has been getting stronger as you've gotten older?

As far as suppression goes, I'm getting practicing some Pleiadan Lightwork particularly about the brain repatterning will help you.

Visualizing, collecting and focusing one's aura to within a few feet of one's physical body prior to sleep is essential. Checking one's colors is also important, but there is more in the book.

Next I'm getting a stone, particularly one w a hole in it worn while sleeping will help ground you here. I'm seeing like a black glassy obsidian. You may have to tell the stone what you need, otherwise I feel it might amplify. These are merely my impressions, trust your feelings.

Perhaps it encourages you to know your power of endurance actually provides a huge capacity to help others.

EDIT: I love the part about the boulders. Gonna have to keep that one and play with it.
EDIT EDIT: This station, Undercurrents, on Native Voice 1, was playing some really moving Native American narrative songs while I was typing this. I think you may enjoy.

So... you're a baby-puppy beginning on this journey, had a revelation of some kind, realized your parent's religion may not be for you, and started doing drugs. Now you're seeking spirituality like it's some kind of buzz or high.

Spirituality of any stripe is a journey, not a destination you land at. You must find and develop a practice and work at that practice.

You say you need to find a mentor... that's now how things work in the modern age. There are people who set themselves up as 'gurus and spiritual teachers' who use their position to take advantage of their students, financially, sexually, emotionally. There's lots of information out there, good and bad. So consider this a warning to not jump into something just because it feels good, and watch for snake oil salesmen (in books or in person) that promise you nirvana and shambhala and great power and wisdom.

What I would suggest is you start reading. Where to start will depend on what exactly you want to know. But I would suggest reading about meditation, ritual and magic. Lots of people start reading about Wicca because it's an easy structure to study, but most move on. I would also suggest you start reading about mythology, all of them not just greek... whatever captures your interest. For you I would especially suggest Joseph Campbell's Hero of a Thousand Faces as a place to start. Check the suggested books under this title as well.

You can also look at local groups, see if there are meditation groups or anything that has open rituals. Zen, Tao groups are good and usually let in all kinds of folk. Yoga practices often have meditations and teach a bit about energy work and may also help you.

You mention seeing a Native American in your spiritual realm. So, a way spirit can communicate with us is by using symbols we understand, this is why 'symbol translation books are generally bullshit. They're fine if you want to understand the cultural significance of something but to understand what something in a dream or vision means, you're better off meditating on it and figuring that out on your own. My dream and your dream may have a same symbol, but it can mean something completely different to each of us. The reason I'm pointing out that dude you saw is that NA spirituality has been romanticized in Western culture. Each First Nation has their own mythology, traditions, and culture, and unless you are a part of that tribe as a card carrying member that's not a rabbit hole that's for you. Again watch out for snake oil salesmen. When I was your age I got really into Tom Brown Jr, who is this white dude who claims when he and a friend were taught how to track and survive in the woods and spiritual lessons by this guy he calls 'Grandfather', Stalking Wolf who was Apache. I was really into his books, but found later that there's no evidence that Stalking Wolf ever existed, and the more books he produced the more outlandish they became in predicting the end of the world and all kinds of left field nonsense (here's a thread that discusses that). This is what I'm talking about when I say beware of snake oil. Don't be afraid to question your sources, and especially watch out for anyone who claims NA spirituality teachings, especially for money.

You can find what is now called shamanic traditions all over the world. I myself am am member of OBOD, which I like because they have an emphasis on philosophy vs dogma. So read read read. Some books you'll find are going to be crap but that's how it goes.

One more footnote, watch the drugs. Yeah they can seem to open pathways and ideas, but they aren't a cure-all, or a fast track to enlightenment. Using them without training and ritual is fine but it's just partying really. Doing them too much can burn you out. At 19 your brain isn't done developing yet, you're in the latter stages of puberty and that's something you should really respect. It's tempting when you first find psychedelics to want to do them often, but that's not healthy. Get yourself educated. A group that may have meetings near you is http://www.maps.org/ Start there

Enjoy falling down the rabbit hole Alice. Good Luck!

Hi friend,

I understand where you're coming from on some aspects. After breaking my neck while I was a passenger of a car at 19 my whole life changed. I woke up not being able to move anything from my chest down and I was left a head and shoulders that was in constant pain. I had zero energy and I could barely even sit up without passing out. I fell into great darkness and decided the pain I felt was not worth the life I was living. To wake up day after day with the same constant pain and limitations just weren't worth it to me. I told my mom I was going to kill myself and she told me to wait for 3 years, if I still wanted to end my life after 3 years I was free to do it. This changed everything for me as I could look at my life differently as time was very limited [as it is now].

If I only had 3 years to live I might as well make the most of it so I did with much struggle. Life still was not easy but I had a new drive to keep making small steps until I couldn't make any more steps. The first thing I did was learn how to be independent again which was a big moral boost. When I learned how to drive a car again and I could drive myself to therapy I felt like I accomplished something.

I then spent a year at therapy until I realized I'm not moving forward and I was given too much time to feed bad for myself. I decided to return to college but first started at a small local college taking some classes. Despite my lack of energy and immense pain for some reason the school work made me feel like I had a purpose. I then went to the main university and graduated with a degree in computer science. The 3 year mark hit while I was at main campus and although life was not easy and I was pushing myself to the limits I felt like moving forward although life never got any easier. I got a full time job and moved out to California to start my new life.

I still wasn't happy despite all my accomplishments and I cried to let out my pain. With all my work I still felt like I will never find happiness until a friend I met introduced me to weed. The first hit I took I laughed a laugh I haven't laughed in years. I finally felt free, I was on a rocket ship that didn't go down. I wouldn't smoke all the time but the weed allowed my body to not feel any pain and I would reach levels of relaxation I never knew were possible.

I later was introduced to the sacred mushroom which finally filled a great void in my soul. The sacred mushroom taught me how to look at my pain and problems differently. It showed how the pain I felt was simply 1 layer to the multilayered existence. Years later I stopped exploring with the sacred plants and also stopped smoking weed and just recently I discovered the only type of meditation that works for me which is the Torus Energy.

I was drawn to the Torus Energy because when I close my eyes I see the Double Torus although at the time I had no idea what I was seeing. After doing research I discovered this website and everything clicked http://theawakenedstate.tumblr.com/post/32317620623/the-torus-the-code-to-the-universe. I then purchased this book for a mere $4.00 and I was finally able to meditate and oddly enough this meditation has helped my chronic pain and also gives me energy. Heres the book: https://www.amazon.com/Torus-LIfe-Healing-Meditation-ebook/dp/B0055DYRII/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1481846964&sr=8-2&keywords=Torus+energy

Torus info [i'm copying and pasting from the .pdf]

THE TORUS OF LIFE HEALING MEDITATION INTRODUCTION This potent visualization meditation is effective for: Healing the physical body of pain and chronic illness Generating more aliveness and vitality Creating protection from destructive energies and diseases Combing energy blocks from the magnetic field around the body It can be done

Karuna, Amara. The Torus of LIfe Healing Meditation (Kindle Locations 56-62). Karuna Publishing. Kindle Edition.

The basics of meditation are the following:

Heres what to visualize:

http://imgur.com/a/0NLfY

http://imgur.com/Kdp9bRk

You are in the center of the torus and these energy lines are constantly moving in both directions as they are 2 over lapping torus systems [Double Torus]. This is something I see with my eyes closed so I believe it 100%.

Heres another image:

http://www.asherahart.net/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/Double-torus.jpg

Breath cycles:

On an in‐breath, imagine lines of energy beginning to flow up from your feet (if you are standing or lying) or below your pelvis (if sitting cross‐legged), up through your central core. As you exhale they flow up and out through the top of your head to a couple of feet above your head, and down around your body on all sides.

Karuna, Amara. The Torus of LIfe Healing Meditation (Kindle Locations 252-254). Karuna Publishing. Kindle Edition.

Keep doing this basic visualization and you can use color for the energy, any you wish. For me I see green heart chakra energy but you can use any you wish. When I breathe in I imagine I'm breathing in bright shimmering white light and when I exhale I imagine it removing all the toxins in my body as well as pain.

Then as you do these breathes you'll start to hear your heart beat. A more advanced form of this meditation is the following and when done properly also allows me to journey the mind.

Heartbeat Cycles – Get Into Your Own Rhythm When you are comfortable with the breath cycles, tune into your heartbeat. Allow the energy to speed up so that it goes through its up and down cycle with every pulse of your heart. Let your breathing be slow & relaxed.

Karuna, Amara. The Torus of LIfe Healing Meditation (Kindle Locations 208-211). Karuna Publishing. Kindle Edition.

When you force yourself to grow the only option is to grow. Don't allow the lack of energy or pain to consume you but be reborn into it. If you were born with low energy and pain you wouldn't know any difference. Its the comparison of your life now to the one you remembered which in my experience caused the suffering and keeping me from moving forward. I hope this helps!

Much love and life

By no means am I an expert, but I have been working through similar limitations. Instead of never having visualization skills, I seemed to have lost them over time due to specializing in a science field throughout college. Too much analysis and not enough creativity just atrophied my imagination. Anyway, I have made good progress in reclaiming my inner vision and this may be helpful for you:

This Video gave me some good ideas for establishing ritual and positive affirmations, and also helped me realize I should start by trying to hold the image of real life objects or images in my head before trying to conjure my own. I've practiced with the water charger (first looking at it in the present then closing my eyes, and eventually recalling it stone by stone through memory). I also do this with places I've visited or common objects in my day.

To further this practice, I bought a tarot deck and use the images to strengthen my active imagination. First just "soaking the image in" with eyes open, and then close the eyes and practice holding it in my mind's eye as vividly as possible. Slowly I have been able to build up my "endurance" and now I can let the image play out as a scene and come alive.

Finally, simple drawing practices like Contour Drawing and others from the Nicolaides method helped me learn to "see" correctly. As a bonus, this is a great way to connect with nature. Find a cool tree or powerful stone and soak in the image while drawing it. Explore its contours through touch, then draw it while looking at the object and not looking at the page.

Basically, this all boils down to not jumping straight into self-conjured images. Instead, use real life images or objects and build up your endurance with simply holding the image in your mind. It has taken me about a year of slow practice to rebuild my inner vision, but I am just now experiencing good breakthroughs!

Final point - for me, shifting away from the thought that the image will appear before my eyelids like a movie took me a while to overcome. I am not conjuring an image projected for my physical eyes to behold, I am "seeing" it with my inner vision, which actually kind of feels like the image is located between my eyebrows, and not behind my eyelids. Hard to describe - but I hope this helps.

Sucking bad spirits into a stone is actually a shamanistic practice in some cultures, I'm not sure if it's a south american thing, or a siberian thing. I took an intrest in shamanism years ago, but I'm more of a lurker here. That being said there is some not so good info out there on the subject, and if you are going to pursue it you should be careful about where you get your influences. I really liked this books approach to the subject

All that aside, if you are really struggling, than I suggest that you make use of your creative mind and apply it to ritual. What I am suggesting is that, in your own life you have had some pretty positive influences, and positive energy radiates. If there is some action, or thought that you can have that will center you in your most positive self then you should do that. Maybe you have a memory of your dad when you were both happy doing something, and now would be a good time to do that again. He is survived by you, and if you survive, I imagine you will want the best parts of you to survive, and the rest to.. well not.

Sure!

There was no initiation, shamanism is something you do. Talked to a bird? Good for you, you're a shaman now! Helped the bird by sending positive energy? You're definitely a shaman now. After one bird healing you're maybe not the most experienced shaman in the world yet, but you're no doubt a shaman to the extent of healing that bird. An initiation can help convince you that you are now a shaman, which makes it easier to do shamanic stuff, it's the doing that matters, not the initiation. Having said that, you might also be part of a shamanic order that requires initiation for you to be considered a member, but that's about the organization of that order, not the shamanism. It used to be that knowledge was only shared if were part of some kind of organized teaching club like this, but those days are long gone.

I found a tradition that basically says: Use whatever works and you can consider it part of our tradition- and then proceed to give you [traditional tools that are so good(http://shaman.capo.casa/the-haipule) you don't find yourself incorporating all that often. It's always nice when a tradition allows for the survival of the most effective technique.

What I ended up with is a version of the most powerful kind of traditional Hawaiian shamanism that was expanded a bit and then translated for Western students. So to me, that's a part of global culture now- Italians have the best food, and Hawaiians have the best shamans (to my knowledge). I also looked for traditional Western shamanism but I what little I found that was left turned out to be chock full of pitfalls and weird tradeoffs and guilt and fear and misunderstandings due to secrecy that I decided to consider it lost to history and decided to base everything I do on that translated traditional Hawaiian approach. My own culture's shamanism is coming back fresh from the spirit world through lots of channels, but I found a system that has been honed by generations and generations of shamans to be much more enjoyable to work with because there are so much fewer kinks to iron out.
Hope this helped!

Castaneda is fiction.......good, but fiction. ;)
I would seek out Sarangerel Odigon's book 'Chosen by the Spirits' and also look online for free pdf files if your budget is tight.

You may also wish to seek out 'Sacred Hoop' magazine produced by Nicholas Breeze Wood and his free articles on 3worlds.co.uk . He's a nice guy and may let you have access to Hoop articles for free if you ask nicely. ;)

I think the spirits will help you learn to love yourself as you are during each moment of transition, not just the end result. We are a journey/ process oriented people. You must love yourself today if you want to love yourself tomorrow too. It's okay to not be everything you want to become right away. You have time and space to fly as high and far as you can imagine. <3

There have been powerful intersex and trans people throughout shamanistic history. One that comes to mind is the prophet who predicted the success of the the Lakota including the legendary warriors Red Cloud and Crazy Horse in a vision that became known as the-hundred-in-the-hands. So you will find you have a rich cultural tapestry to draw from when you spend a little time researching, these figures are everywhere in our history.

>My rational mind says what I posted and it seems logical and "correct".

It is logical and correct. But so are a lot of other viewpoints. If you study ethics in philosophy, you'll find that philosophers have proposed different ethical systems, all of which are logical and internally consistent. But they can't all be right, correct? That's because they are just constructs that focus only one aspect of knowledge/wisdom (the mental), while ignoring all the other aspects (emotional, spiritual, the preferences of the individual, etc.)

That's why I suggested that you access those other avenues of wisdom, so that you can commingle those with your logical viewpoint and find a solution that feels true on all levels/planes.

>But.. I feel weak and helpless surrendering myself to inevitable doom.

I hear you. It can feel very overwhelming. Sometimes it feels like it's easier to just shut down and do whatever you want since it's all going to pot anyways. You may want to check out the book Active Hope by Joanna Macy. I find it very inspiring and helpful.

>I haven't really contacted the spirit realm so no animals or plants to talk to yet... do you find that they have the answers to everything?

I find they have an answer to everything, just like most people do :) However, you don't have to take their answers as "the answer"--it's another input for you to consider as you meditate on the issue. As you get more familiar with the different animals and plants, you learn how much weight to give to their answers. You may find that some are completely correct and some are just providing another aspect that needs to be integrated with other inputs in order to get a more complete holistic solution.

Sounds like you are quite walking the path already. While I'm quite interested by the subject, I don't know much, but your post resonated with the book I'm currently reading : https://www.amazon.com/Plant-Intelligence-Imaginal-Realm-Perception/dp/1591431352 I think it would quite interest you. It's great read about how everything is connected, intelligence all around us, and it change the look we have at the world around us. I'm still reading it, but lot's of amazing stuff in this book.

u/skelleyh · 1 pointr/Shamanism

My experience is the ones that want to work with you make themselves known. Once that opening is there, you're responsible for holding up your end of the engagement. There are no "truer" or less true spirit allies. People who project such wouldn't gain my confidence.

This is purely a personal caveat, though I teach that we're responsible for connecting with the Nature Spirits of where we are. They are the foundation of all of our work and ability to reach into that of other regions and spaces. They are our grounding and we are their active participants--http://www.soulintentarts.com/thursday-betwixt-working-home-spirits/ There's a big trend among modern shamanists to romanticize the Nature spirits of other regions, cultures, or spaces, while skipping over the nature of our own backyard. Uncool.

The ancestors spirit you mention is interesting. Most people aren't aware of them; that's something to explore.

Newbie resource: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1782794336/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=1782794336&linkCode=as2&tag=souintart-20&linkId=G4FIDNOIFTGL5QIQ

Regarding the drum, mine have never wanted to be painted. I wanted to paint them; they said no. Of people who paint them with, they paint a spirit ally or sigil that is significant to them. I often wonder if they ask the drum what it wanted. In all aspects, I always ask the soul in question what it would like.

Best to you!

I'm currently reading a book Divine Fury: A History of Genius which may explain everything. The ancients believed that each man was born with a daemon (the Romans changed this to genius). Your personal daemon watches over you and guides your fate. Or you have a personal demon who leads you to your doom. See how deeply ingrained this concept has become?

Here is what I think is really going on. There is a constantly running background process deep within your mind like the computer science concept of daemon. This is the genius of your unconscious mind. It means you know more than you think you know, because ego consciousness is just a narrow and focused part of the mind which is unable to comprehend the sum total of your knowledge. So occasionally your unconscious mind will figure something out that needs to be brought to your attention and a voice in your head will make a little suggestion, this is the eureka moment. For me, an image tends to come to mind. I've never heard any kind of inner voice. But mental imagery makes you a visionary when it is the product of genius.

So to unlock the potential of your genius you need greater access to your unconscious mind. Most great artists and thinkers have greater access to their unconscious mind, either through mental illness (i.e. mad genius or the furor poeticus of Artistic inspiration or through divine inspiration.

Welcome. Have you been to shamanism.org and/or read Michael Harner's book, Way of the Shaman? Harner is an 80-something year old anthropologist who studied with indigenous shamans in the Amazon in the 1960s and, as a result, quit academia and became a shamanic practitioner and teacher full-time. Shamanism.org is his site (or rather the site of the nonprofit shamanic studies foundation he founded). They teach classes in shamanism, publish a magazine on indigenous and non-indigenous shamans, and periodically run fundraisers to help indigenous shamans (some hurricane in Central America wrecks a shaman's home, they raise money to help him or her build a new one). I've taken one of the classes and use their drumming CDs (or rather MP3's) for most of my journeys. Good stuff.

Here's a link to that book: https://www.amazon.com/Way-Shaman-Michael-Harner/dp/0062503731

Start with Neolithic Shamanism by Kaldera and Krasskova

Then start Kaldera's Northern Tradition series:

Jotunbok

Pathwalkers's Guide

Wightridden

Wyrdwalkers

In the meantime, start searching for the Galdrbok by Johnson and Wallis and read that when you can get a copy.

That should give you about 3-5 years worth of training material. Once you have worked through it all, set it aside and focus on how the spirits you work with encourage you to practice. All of the above authors have their own practices and much of what they offer will not be completely true for your work. Learn the skills that are presented, make them your own, and then foster your relationships with the spirits from there.
