My niece was 4 or 5 when she showed interest in games. First I played single player games and she watched, like Zelda where I translated everything to her because she did not read English at the time. After a while of playing single player games we tried Minecraft together because it is not a fast paced game, and we both had such a good time. Its a really great bonding experience. Anyways, it took some years and now she is as good, if not better than me in every game we play together. Its really fun to coop with her. I know for sure you will have as much fun as i am having pretty soon, or in a few years.

Here is some ideas I would like to share with you:

If you play on pc I suggest you get yourself controllers as it is better for your brother to play on. I bought Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows and a couple of 360 controllers. One of the best things I ever bought actually. If you have PlayStation or Xbox One i am sure there are other solutions.

There is a bunch of steam games that we have played together that is super fun, if you want recommendations I can make a list of what we like the best, but I think the couch coop search option on steam is pretty good and there is always co-optimus. Though it is hard to find games for 5 year old children, remember that they grow fast and that if you harvest some games during xmas sale it might last a long time. Even if the game don't work for you both today, it will work later.

If you want to try minecraft then you should to get two accounts, get controllers and the controller mod Joypad Mod - USB Controller for Split Screen Open up two minecraft windows on your screen and use Windowed Borderless Gaming to move the window to another screen or to split the screen in half, which is what i do on my TV. Then just open to lan and play the game.

Also the Little Big Planet series is really good.

All scanners are not the same, some are better than others.

This is probably the best BIFL "value buy" scanner that works with all cars with obdII interface.

And the Torque app works great with it too.

Have you read the Graphic Novel adaption? It's very faithful to the novel, and the artwork is rather charming:

https://www.amazon.com/Core-Sliders-Effective-Abdominal-Equipment/dp/B01AMJG9MQ/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1478134063&sr=8-2-fkmr0&keywords=hard+floor+slider+shoes+toy

This is the closest thing I was able to quickly Google, but they make them that are basically giant slidey socks that go over your shoes. There's also a plastic version for doing the same thing on carpet.

But yes. Rollerblades are also awesome. Just outside of the <$20 price range items I was aiming for.

Read Lilith's Brood - best sci-fi I've ever read exploring this subject (actually one of the best sci-fi trilogies I've ever read). It was years ahead of its time, and really holds up in the light of what we know today about genetic transfer.

https://www.amazon.com/Goliath-Industry-Wireless-Upgraded-Connects/dp/B01C3HAHCS/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1480687470&sr=8-9&keywords=OBD+II+reader

Not the exact model I had but pretty close. Though read the reviews as I did minimum researching on this particular model. Mine was only around $25. I left it plugged in all the time (Not...really recommended but it didn't kill my battery at all)

u/cbessette · 2 pointsr/Showerthoughts

Beans would get boring after a while. You would definitely benefit by having a copy of the "I Love to Fart Cookbook"
https://www.amazon.com/I-Love-Fart-Cookbook/dp/0943084040

I have a copy at home and have tried a few of the recipes.

u/bhalverchuck723 · 3 pointsr/Showerthoughts

It was actually a lot of fun to read! You can still buy it!

There are follow up guides but this one covers the glory years.

u/jaxdesign · 5 pointsr/Showerthoughts

Want to improve your home life, be more hygienic, and save money on toilet paper? Buy a bidet on amazon prime for $27. I found out about these on another reddit thread last month, and I couldn't be happier with my purchase!

http://www.amazon.com/Astor-Non-Electric-Mechanical-Toilet-Attachment/dp/B003TPGPUW/ref=sr_1_1?s=kitchen-bath&ie=UTF8&qid=1416441421&sr=1-1&keywords=bidet&pebp=1416441425308

J. There used to be a bumps on F but I worn it out talking about your mother last night because she is such a nice person. ;)

A little more seriously. Both my desktop and laptop have an bump on the number pad's 5 key. Are mine unique?

For everyone else. I'd honestly find the Braille handy. And it turns out there are stickers you can buy to do that.

u/th1341 · 491 pointsr/Showerthoughts

I have 2 of them. 10 dollars each

Edit: I can't find the $10 ones I have but here is one for $20

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005NLQAHS/

Edit: obligatory Thank you kind stranger for giving me gold!

u/chriskmee · 2 pointsr/Showerthoughts

I bought this dongle and the Torque Pro app. You have to enable the fast data stuff somewhere in the torque pro settings, can't remember where exactly. The dongle comes with its own free app which is ok, but Torque Pro is better.

u/HappyComment · 9 pointsr/Showerthoughts

Heck yeah!

Here's a step in the right direction https://www.amazon.com/Braille-Keyboard-Stickers-Visually-Impaired/dp/B001BPYJQO. I do think if they were de facto on all keyboards that would be awesome.

u/permanentthrowaway · 1 pointr/Showerthoughts

They gave me the link here, in case you want it :)

Halo And Sprocket: Welcome To Humanity - by Kerry Callen

u/therentedmule · 2 pointsr/Showerthoughts

Jokes apart I'm sure it can happen. Just finished https://www.amazon.com/Homo-Deus-Brief-History-Tomorrow/dp/0062464310, lots of good arguments in favor of this idea.

u/meekrobe · 209 pointsr/Showerthoughts

This book is similar. Basically, we're happier as hunter-gathers, but you could never go back unless you're OK with 90% of people dying off due to starvation.

u/locks_are_paranoid · 1 pointr/Showerthoughts

>the game itself looked fun and for a year I believed the game was available at a special target or something.

Its on Amazon

u/remembertosmilebot · 1 pointr/Showerthoughts

Did you know Amazon will donate a portion of every purchase if you shop by going to smile.amazon.com instead? Over $50,000,000 has been raised for charity - all you need to do is change the URL!

Here are your smile-ified links:

Yep, though it's not magical

Here you go...this series covers this ground nicely...

http://www.amazon.com/Liliths-Brood-Octavia-E-Butler/dp/0446676101/

Not a naturally evolved third sex but it should fulfill your curiosity!

u/nagurski03 · 1 pointr/Showerthoughts

It's way cheaper to get a [controller to PC adapter] (https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2). Certain PC games are better with a controller anyways.

u/Ziggote · 1 pointr/Showerthoughts

This is an actual discussion in Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind!

Something about how one Nomadic traveler accidentally dropped wheat seeds as he traveled and humankind flourished along that path due to the easy cultivation of the Wheat. The author obviously explains the theory much better than I can.

u/raddits · 1 pointr/Showerthoughts

Yeah but since you don't know about cars what are you gonna do even if you find out? Just take it in to a shop anyway right?
Plus there's this so it'd not end of the works expensive if you do want to find out https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01C3HAHCS/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_OMxqybKVX4J86

u/Mescalitoburrito · 5 pointsr/Showerthoughts

One of my favorite guests on the Joe Rogan Experience was Johann Hari who gets really deep into how depression and values interact. He pretty much talks about a lot of the same stuff at the beginning of that book Sapiens - for thousands of years we evolved to use whole villages to raise children and now we're at this point, at least in Western society, where (misquoting Hari here) 'most people don't have someone they can turn to in a time of need.'

Essentially, many of us are pushed like round or square pegs into the wrong hole our entire lives and yeah, of course you're going to be depressed. But our society values working hard at the sake of happiness so don't complain or you're a bitch. Annnd, depression should probably be treated with a healthy diet, exercise, free cows, and more - not just popping a pill.

This comment feels meandering and I wasn't sure what to say but this thread had a lot of pain. Seriously, this video helped me through a tough time a few weeks ago and then I quit the job that was making me miserable! Got an offer for an equivalent job today and probably a better one next week. Maybe don't quit your job but that was what I needed to do to make my life enjoyable.

Find something that intrinsically gives you happiness and go for it.

Edit: I cannot link. Also, don't let Bro Jrogan scare you off, he's chill

There’s this book I was looking at Amazon the other day: How to Invent Everything : A Survival Guide for The Standard Time Traveler by Ryan North here

u/PinkyandzeBrain · 32 pointsr/Showerthoughts

Here's one you can buy on Amazon that hooks to your Android via Bluetooth - Bluetooth OBDII Scan Tool for Android Devices https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005NLQAHS/

u/NightGod · 9 pointsr/Showerthoughts

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005NLQAHS

This is the one you want. I leave mine permanently plugged in, connect via Bluetooth to my Galaxy S6, I use ODB Fusion, but Torque works with it, $22 with Prime.

u/AnotherPublicAlias · 1 pointr/Showerthoughts

Unless you have this book:

How To Invent Everything: A Survival Guide for the Stranded Time Traveller by Ryan North

Edit: I should have read the rest of the comments, first - someone else already mentioned this book.

u/qx2anon · 2 pointsr/Showerthoughts

So I just ordered sticky braile pads for keyboards on Amazon...let's see how this goes
Link is here https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001BPYJQO?pc_redir=T1

u/blitzkraft · 61 pointsr/Showerthoughts

There are braille stickers you can use on the keyboard.

u/rmsrox · 1 pointr/Showerthoughts

Especially when you have installed one of these!
