Check out Johnny Socko's "Full Trucker Effect" and "Quatro". Check out more of their stuff if you like them, but stay away from the song "Bitch Stole My Hat" lots of swearing on all versions of that track.

Also can't stop listening to King Kong Girio's "Now That I'm Gone" album. It's more laid back, but great!

Bomb The Music Industry! is currently getting a lot of play from me, too. They put all their stuff out for free, so it is easy for you to get into them. A bit rough around the edges, and swears (when BtMI! goes for swearing, it goes all the way, so while most songs don't swear, when they do, they load it up) it is pretty awesome stuff.

Check out MU330 as well. Great band. But there's a catch. One of the reasons why I asked why you preferred "clean" music, is because you followed that statement by mentioning FIF, Insiderz and OC Supertones, all Christian bands. MU330's album "Crab Rangoon", while clean, is very critical of religion. You may prefer their albums "Chumps On Parade" or "MU330".

Instrumental bands? Come on, you owe it to yrself to check out the Skatalites!

Well, but lots of Fats Domino's stuff wasn't rock. It's r&b. And when he played rock, those records weren't particularly popular with Jamaican audiences. For a good (and really cheap!) look at what was popular in Jamaica check out Jumping The Shuffle Blues and its sequel Jamaica Selects Jump Blues Strictly For You

I don't think I've ever heard of New Orleans brass bands mentioned as an influence on Jamaicans, I doubt it would have factored very heavily though. They were, however, quite influenced by jazz, especially the current Bop sounds. Many of the musicians aspired to be jazz players, but for the most part knew they didn't have the chops. (That being said, Coxsone did put out a couple very enjoyable jazz albums on his Port O Jam label, I'm especially fond of "I Cover The Waterfront".) Those Jamaicans that did have the chops went on to very successful jazz careers (Joe Harriott (he pre-dates the ska era), Ernest Ranglin, and Monty Alexander in particular)

The Dualers release a new album of 14 original tracks that cover the full range of Jamaican based music with a little bit of Jazz and Blues added for good measure. From their humble origins of busking on the streets of South-East London, Kent and Essex in 1997, the Dualers have grown and continue to grow appealing to fans and families of all ages. The Dualers, led by the distinct crisp vocals of Tyber Cranstoun, take you with them on the next stage of their journey with an immediate feelgood factor from the opening track into your own world of complete satisfaction from upbeat dancing to easy listening and chillin out. If you haven't already read them, I recommend both Neville and Horace's books, both different perspectives.

Bizarrely, I'd just finished reading them back to back, putting down Ska'd for Life only a week a go. Brad sounded like a right laugh to be honest, but neither really went into much detail about him. Just seemed like a solid guy, definitely an unnaturally talented drummer.

These guys just released an album funded by Kickstarter, you can listen to some samples of it here, but I think it's a great album worth checking out, as well as to support the scene.

Thank you!! I think their drummer is awesome! Yea I generally play metal but I try to branch out into other styles as well, hence the streetlight cover. I have the audix fp7 mic kit. Super decent price for 7 mics. Here's a link to it if you wanna check it out http://www.amazon.com/Audix-FP7-Instrument-Microphone-Multipattern/dp/B0038K9IGQ

Actually, Same Old Song is a Motown classic. Many Ska acts in the 50s & 60s did covers of the Motown hits of the day because they loved the rise of Black musicans and the Soul music but had to give it their own special island feel to the songs. I HIGHLY recommend Trojan's Motor City Reggae Box Set if your a fan of Delroy Wilson's verson of Same Old Song.

That compilation has a great live studio version of Bim Skala Bim's "Wise Up"... way better than any of their other more common versions.

I hope I am not the only one here that will see Bim next month during their short summer tour.
