Wow. I have 3 2amp dewalt chargers that I bought years ago for $15 each. They are like a battery tender but they came with nice alligator clips, ring terminals and cigarette lighter connections. $129 to check with my phone? No thanks. Good find. www.amazon.com/STANLEY-BC209-Battery-Charger-Maintainer/dp/B005Q4OA6A

It's definitely stupid but I don't think it's any dumber than a keurig, and those are insanely popular and profitable. Keurig has over 4 billion in revenues from their brewers and cups.

Honestly it makes sense to me why you'd make this. Fresh squeezed juice is a big thing right now with the ridiculous kinds of people who buy keurigs. Juice bars are a thing. People already play exhorbitant prices for fancy juicers and this is just the logical next step- fruit that comes in bags.

There are absolutely a gross number of people that will pay a thousand bucks just to be able to press a button on their phone and get a glass of juice from the room over. It's pretty much just this but with wifi and bags of fruit, for $75 more. I can see why investors thought that was a good deal.

You can buy this right now on Amazon for $79usd.
I absolutely love this drill. Mine came with the charger and an extra battery. The battery life is incredible! It's been ready to go every time I've reached for it. It has a battery life indicator in the form of 3 green leds that count down the battery so you can easily see when its getting low. It feels great in your hand. Plenty of heft but compact in size. Its the last drill I know I'll ever have to buy. It's built like a tank. Last week I was using it and I could see that I was on one led of power left. I knew I had fully charged the backup battery and put it in the case with the charger like 2 years ago. Slapped it in and it was fully lit ready to rock. Put the other one in the charger and it was done in less than an hour. I've had plenty of cordless drills in my lifetime and the most frustrating thing with them for me has always been needing it infrequently and always finding it needing a charge. That will never be the case with this drill.

In the first part you seem to be describing a standard chiller operation with the PID controller built in (like one of these)

It all seems like you're over-complicating things. If I were to test something as small and dense as your beer example, I would likely get a styrofoam cooler and fill it with ice water. When I wanted to test the heat capacity of my object (I would have it in an isothermal environment ready to go), I'd strain out all the ice and plop the object in. After an hour or two I'd use a thermocouple to measure the water temperature. You could be more accurate by running the same test without the object to account for environmental losses. Heat capacity of water is pretty well understood with high accuracy so you'd just take the mass of your water (measured afterwards because you're scooping out ice), and multiply it by 4.184 and then multiply that by the temperature change (degrees C since we're using 4.184 kJ/(kg*K) and C and K are on the same scale, just different zero points). I used ice water as an example because you're basically guaranteed to be at 0C as long as ice and water are both present. You need to scoop out the ice because there is some energy required to change phases.

Maybe you are going to need to run this test over and over and need something more complex? If so, it sounds like you could probably just afford to buy a chiller that will circulate coolant/water without re-inventing the wheel. Some chillers will have heating and cooling, depending on the temperature set-point.

Question.

Why does the grease need removed? Greasing electrical contacts isn't necessarily uncommon to help prevent corrosion (and copper loves to corrode in ways that electricity doesn't like).

If you're sure you want to remove the grease, use America's favorite libation: CRC Brākleen in the non-California-approved red can. It's usually cheaper locally: I bought some today at Harbor Freight for $7.

You can also buy it by the gallon or larger, up to (at least) 55 gallon drums.

Why are you wanting to do gas welding? Unless you have a specific need you are probably better off getting a cheap MIG-style machine. MIG welding is a lot easier for beginners. Check Youtube for plenty of tutorial videos.

Harbor Freight sells a very basic MIG-style machine that will work for your needs for as low as $89 on sale. This one uses flux-cored wire, so no gas is needed to weld.

If you can spend a bit more, check out the Everlast MIG welders. Unlike the HF model linked above, this one is a true MIG welder, meaning you can use inert gas with it. That gives you a much cleaner weld, so you won't need to spend as much time cleaning up your welds. Of course you can still run it with flux-core wire, so you aren't forced to get a tank right away if you are on a budget. Everlast welders are also better quality than HF, and they offer much better support.

HF does offer some models that work with both flux core and with gas, but they are all 220V only. Make sure you have access to 220V before buying one of those.

Kershaw Leek is my EDC. It's good, sharp, easy to resharpen, and cheap like borsch

https://www.amazon.com/Kershaw-Stainless-SpeedSafe-Reversible-Pocketclip/dp/B0009VC9Y0/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1542054912&sr=8-5&keywords=kershaw+leek

It's also spring loaded cam-over with a lock. It's not technically a switchblade so it's even legal in california.

The belt clip is reversible and I always reverse mine and the ones I buy for other people because the knife feels backward or up-side-down in the factory position.

I've had mine for over 10 years and I can't find anything I like better.

Reminds me of this that I own.

I've used it 3 times, other people have borrowed it more than I have used it. It's not a life-changer, but when you need it...

I love it with my 28" 1/2"drive flex head ratchet on it... fully extended. It's amazing what a wrench will put up with and still break a fastener loose.

u/UncleKielbasa · 2 pointsr/Skookum

You want to make all your friends jealous? flux pen.

Particularly when you have a fancy board like this with solder mask, just hold any surface mount parts in place, dab the pads with your flux, and solder away with the biggest chisel tip you have. The fun part is not telling anyone how easy it is ;)

I love Super Lube products. Cheap and effective stuff. Their grease is the best NLGI 2 multipurpose grease you can get for the money.

DuPont also makes a semi-dry lube that's a little hard to find but my absolute favorite for things like hinges and garage door rails because it doesn't attract much dust but gets way into the crevices of things basically instantly. http://www.performancelubricantsusa.com/files/DuPont%20Product%20Availability%20Feb%202016.pdf It's their "multi-use" lubricant. The sticktivity isn't necessary for indoor stuff, but for outdoor hinges and garage doors and such it can't be beat since it also features some moderate rust protection.

I had someone from another company give me some Dri-Tek shirts and they have been the greatest thing through this past summer. If I weld I have to wear my fire-resistant button up and a welding jacket, it gets hottt. Adding that thin shirt as a third layer actually cools me off pretty good. It's just enough not to feel those hard plastic stitches too.

I share your concern. I'm doing everything I can think in the way of failsafes to prevent that from happening. It's also a push mower, not a riding mower or a combine harvester.

A short list of safeguards I've included:

  • The flywheel brake is disengaged by compressed air from a three-way solenoid valve. Any loss of compressed air or power to the solenoid valve will cause the spring-loaded flywheel brake to engage.
  • There's a big red emergency stop button on it. One slap cuts power.
  • Sensors. Lots of them. I'm relying on both orientation and PIR right now, but I also want bumpers around the entire deck.
  • Fuses. Lots of them.

The thing only has manual control right now via a Spektrum AR7000 R/C receiver and a Spektrum DX-7 radio. I plan to ensure all of the failsafes work with R/C before working on the code for the fully automated version. And even then, I'm not sure I'll ever get the nerve to allow it to just do its thing unattended. It's a fun project, though.

Thanks for the input. I agree on second thought, rather than have angrier pixies and try and calm them down, would be better have calmer pixies and try and get them angrier.

Any idea for a good board for this?

It would miss out on the coolness factor of dropping a tool battery in the wife's jug pumper though.

OK Son, have a listen.

I'm 47, and I'm the Army. Not because I have to, but because I like it and tanks are cool. I make YouTube videos about the Dodge Stealth I am restomodding I wrote a book. I drove race cars professionally, and engineered race cars professionally. Fought in Afghanistan. Worked in Detroit. (Had an office on 8 Mile Road). I've been a blacksmith, a graphics designer, a 3D animator, a software coder. That website? Written with vi on my home Linux server. Poke around, and you can find my code in the Linux kernel and in the ldap libraries. My home shop has a lathe/mill, two welders, and a friggin' lift.

So if you want to dick-measure about "skookum people", Son, I have you covered in spades.

So listen up - "Universal Basic Income" is coming, it's the best goddamn thing for the world that I can imagine, and it's about fucking time because Western civilization is in for a rough go if it doesn't.

What we don't need is young whippersnappers like yourself pissing on it for reasons like "pride" and "Mother Government" and other horseshit like that.

Get your head out of your rectum, take off your MAGA hat, and maybe read a goddamn book.

You could also consider a torque multiplier (something like this) I've heard they work pretty well for things like this, just support the arm with a floor jack and twist the nut off. As was the case in this thread.
