Oh man do I know how you feel!

Sony was taking what felt like forever to ship, so by a random coincidence I checked my carrier's website (wind). And I swear my heart skipped a beat when I saw it in stock.

Quickly cancelled my order and drove down and made a B-line for the Z3.
It was one of those occasions where everything worked out perfect.

And now my Z3 and I are living happily ever after.

I'm on my 3rd day and here are some things I wanna share (because I love talking about this thing
Getting 8-9 hours of Screen on Time (no stamina mode yet) just regular usage, youtube videos, texting, whatsapp, etc (wifi on, location on battery saving)
Disable the Sony apps theyre pretty much pointless
Here is a cool theme, little android L teaser
Consider buying This I just got mine yesterday, works perfectly. It goes ontop of your sony charger and it'll save your flaps

  • And for the love of god please use a barometer app before you decide to jump into water with this thing, I've just seen too many posts here and if that happened to me I would just die a little inside

    Enjoy your phone!

I purchased a z3c D5803 from Amazon as an upgrade to a Nexus 4, no issues with purchase, shipping, etc. I am on Tmobile, no issues with service at all. Battery life is outstanding, Camera is well above-average in my opinion.

While the z3 won't get updates as soon as a Nexus, I appreciate the fact that Sony generally avoids messing with the Android experience; the phone feels very vanilla-android, which I think is a good thing.

The z3c has a glass back, and I felt like I had to set it down very carefully. It also felt a bit slippery and hard to hold (sides are hard matte translucent plastic, not grippy soft-touch). I ended up getting a basic case, which makes it feel way more durable and the bevels along the edges make it much easier to handle confidently without bulking it up significantly: http://www.amazon.com/Xperia-Compact-Case-Protection-Absorption/dp/B00OI09JLY

Bloatware? As mentioned in other places, Sony does preload several things but almost all can be removed, and most of the rest can be disabled without root IME. After that it's 99% like my Nexus.

The only quality issues I have had is that sometimes the rotation sensor gets 'stuck' (like it's locked in portrait) and it requires a reboot. I've seen some mention of it online but it seems like a minority fluke, possibly related to using full encryption (see below). Haven't had any issues since the last few android update.

Rebooting: My phone is encrypted, and for a while the phone would treat every reboot like an upgrade-reboot, going though the very time-intensive "optimizing app 1 of 230" process each time I restarted. I eventually tried a factory repair/reset using the sony PC tool, and that solved it for me, zero issues since.

I've got the XZ2 Compact - congratulations and welcome to Sony! The Compact offers a unique and extensive set of features found nowhere else; I'm glad you found it as compelling as I did.

This is the screen protector you want:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BHJ662W?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

Most screen protectors, whether glass or plastic, won't go to the edges of the screen, let alone wrapping over the rounded 2.5D glass edges. This one will, and it's incredibly easy to apply (the process uses an included spray for wet application, which helps keep out dust and position the protector more easily). I've used IQShield's protectors for years on other products and am highly satisfied. One thing to note - don't squeegee vertically across the sensor cutouts during application or you'll stretch them.

This is the case I'm using now...
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BWD8PCH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_eOMUBb8T2FXYM

...unfortunately, I have to add a big caveat to my recommendation. It adds a pleasant texture, which is important for this phone (very slippery matte plastic back), but three out of four corners now show hairline cracks after drops. I don't know if it's a quality control issue, and the case hasn't broken yet, but I did buy a second case as a backup in case it does. If you aren't married to hard cases, as I am, you might look elsewhere.

As far as applications, the phone has been running smoothly with little help from me. I always recommend the combination of Media Volume Only and Quick Settings to fix Android's inexplicably terrible volume button management, and Nova Launcher and Light Manager to refine your interface (all linked below).

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.launcher

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koo.lightmanager

Again, congratulations on your purchase, and I'd (clearly) be happy to answer any further questions!

I've seen the same thing going on with the Z5 Compact on eBay as well. There are at least a dozen+ sellers with BIN listings for "brand new" Z5c ranging from about USD $300-350. Many of them say they ship from HK or China. A handful of them say "US Seller" but the listing is almost a direct copy of one of the Asian-based ones (English errors and all), and several of the reviews outright state that when they got the phone, it was clear it had shipped direct from China and that the seller lied when they said it would ship fast from within the U.S.

It's unclear whether these are really brand-new or just lightly used/seller-refurbished, and if they are new, where they are being ultimately sourced from. I'm finding it highly tempting to try and buy a phone from one of these jokers just to see what ends up arriving (if anything). It may be that even as shady as it seems to me on the surface that one might actually end up with a pretty good deal! ...of course, warranty claims made against these phones to Sony U.S. will be utterly rejected, so you will be SOL if something ends up going wrong with them.

Finally, you can easily get X Compact in the U.S. for ~$350. It only recently jumped up on Amazon to the $399 MSRP within the last day or two; before that it was hanging around 350-360 for a good long while, and there was even a 1-2 week period in July where it was selling there for $299. Just keep your eyes peeled. Right now Best Buy on-line has "open box" X Compact in black for $351. And if you want to give Amazon Warehouse Deals a chance (which I've yet to have a bad experience with), they have X Compact for $284 listed as "like new" with "pristine" packaging (https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B01LACBMV2/?m=A2L77EE7U53NWQ).

If you do end up ordering a Z3c from one of these sellers, though, please let us know how the phone is when you get it...I'm super curious.

Not sure that is the greatest advice. If you're talking Pixel 3a XL, then I'd agree, but not a standard Pixel 3a, and certainly not if you are comparing a 3a to an Xperia 10 Plus. That XZ2 Compact is a pretty good deal though. If you compare a Pixel3a to an XZ2 Compact and think the Pixel is better, you need your head examined. Pixel 3a XL is a different comparison, but again, you specifically say Pixel 3a.

Or skip the compact and get one of these;

My SO has the Magnector piece, it's infinitely better than the one I bought ( http://smile.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00KNLFS9E). I don't know how the Deff has high reviews, because the thing disconnects when you look at it funny. It falls off when the phone is perfectly flat on my bedside table. The Magnector piece holds much stronger and feels like it's better quality.

u/jdbrookes · 1 pointr/SonyXperia

I bought the orzly slim case back in 2015 and it is my most-used case.. It's an excellent fit and provides great grip. Crucially it also looks pretty great: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B015PRSD6U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_y9MDzb6835R5V

I also got the official Sony style book cover and it provides extra protection when on holiday or if you're the type to throw your phone in a bag often. It looks well but is a little bulkier and the window, whilst useful, gets grimey very quickly: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B014H6H7A8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_RaNDzbCPDCBQW

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0168YKR1I/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I find this case to be one of the better ones for the Z5C i personally have the smoke black case but there is a clear crystal one. The case is a nice blend of protection and bulkiness feels like it has no case but i really protect the phone. I believe it also comes with a screen protector, but is not that great it gets scratch easily.

u/ocassionallyaduck · 2 pointsr/SonyXperia

The design should work, but can't vouch for the quality of the cable.

Also, contrary to how it looks at first glance, the mag connector is not reversible if you look closely. One of the contacts has a wider plastic nub than the others. So you gotta make sure you're connecting the right direction. From the picture of this, that appears to be with the cord headed toward the bottom of the device, if looking at the screen. You probably already knew that, but just fyi in case.

I would look into getting a cheap adapter for micro-usb to mag connector. Something like: this
or this

I got lucky (ish), my massively overpriced Z3 in Japan came with the magnetic dock at least, so I just use that for now, otherwise I'd be able to offer you a review on these.

u/motocykal · 1 pointr/SonyXperia

I don't have a XZ2, so I can't vouch for how nice / good this case feels, but I've used Ringke Fusion cases for my Z3C as well as XZ1C and I'm very happy with them.

edit: changed link from XZ2C to XZ2

u/Vaguely_Reckless · 1 pointr/SonyXperia

I bought this adapter that attaches to the end of micro USB chords. The magnets are really strong, I'm super happy with it.

u/John-Nixon · 1 pointr/SonyXperia

If you really like that case I suggest clipping them with something sharp like nail clippers and filing it down if there are still parts in the way. If you aren't set on translucent I've been happy with the protection and grip of this case.

http://amzn.com/B014UDJDNM

Also, a tempered glass screen protector can be extra protection with no downsides. However the more protective the case the better chance it will press on the glass part and pull up a corner. The aforementioned case catches one corner sometimes and you can see a few mm of separated glass.

u/Juheebus · 5 pointsr/SonyXperia

I got this adapter to go with the new quickcharger I'm getting. Fast charging speed + the convenience of a high quality magnetic adaptor seems like a win win to me.

Here's a review on it.

u/stoolphantom · 1 pointr/SonyXperia

I'm using this glass with this case. Fit and finish feel excellent with both and the installation for the glass is very forgiving.

u/BlitzAtk · 1 pointr/SonyXperia

I just received these two items:

Tempered Glass:
Supershieldz for Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact Tempered Glass Screen Protector, [Full Screen Coverage][3D Curved Glass] Anti-Scratch, Bubble Free, Lifetime Replacement Warranty (Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07C3LNLLR/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_dPKYBbWMJ8W2T

Thin and sleek case:
B BELK Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact Case, Ultra Slim Thin Snug-Fit Scratch Resistant Premium PC Hard Protective Cover with Matte Finish Coating for Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact (Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B9WNF9Z/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_0PKYBb5C6W6W9

Honestly, this is the best combo. Thinest profile case. The tempered glass covers the logo on the front and the case covers the "Xperia" brand in the back. It makes the phone very discrete, yet sleek. Alternatively, if you are a rough and tumble guy/girl, I would pick up the Spigen rugged case (see below).

Spigen Rugged Armor Xperia XZ2 Compact Case with Flexible and Durable Shock Absorption with Carbon Fiber Design for Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact (2018) - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B9VNVG8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_.SKYBbY92A1F1

Ringke Fusion TPU case. I really like the TPU cases because they give a decent amount of protection without being overly bulky. This particular case has dust caps that cover the headphone and charging port, they can be cut off if you don't like them. I keep them because they prevent pocket lint from clogging up the ports. Plus this case is like $12 so I think it's a great bargain!

Get yourself one of these, put the old card in it and plug it into your phone. Copy files using your favorite file manager.

(The one I linked is highly recommended, it's well-made and can max out even super fast SD cards.)

u/poman13 · 6 pointsr/SonyXperia

I have this one for my Z3C, very strong and works great!

Hey, my cousin has one of these on his if that helps you at all, I had a play with it and it feels quite nice. Not sure for Canadian amazon however.

I bought this one as a filler case until I found a better one but so far I'm happy with it.

u/heetz · 1 pointr/SonyXperia

the adapter works pretty well. I just put it onto one of my existing usb cables because it's all flexible now. I don't use it with the cable that came with my z3c because it was all bent up and would cause the adapter to fall off my z3c. If I were you, I'd just get the adapter and not the whole cable in case you have multiple existing usb cables.

this is what I purchased and was shipped from Japan

I'll update with the charging speed- I didn't really look at it because I charge it when I'm not using it at home and I've only charged my phone maybe 4 times since I started using it last week. The connectivity is nice, but with the folded up cable that came with the z3c, it would kind of fall off if i didn't have the cable sort of flat/parallel with the desk/phone. I can't compare with the X2, but the X2 seems nice and I would purchase that next

u/ronfar623 · 5 pointsr/SonyXperia

I have this one, and really like it. It doesn't block any of the ports, has a nice tacky rubber texture that makes the phone feel secure in your hand, and adds enough of a lip that you can set the phone face down and have a few millimeters gap to keep it from scratching.

These damn all-glass phones are so slippery that without a case, it makes me nervous just taking it out of my pocket.

u/dodecasonic · 3 pointsr/SonyXperia

There are plenty of gel cases around for it, but all of them that I've tried screw up the button feel. Compare and contrast that with the very first cheapo gel case I got for my XS, which has a thinned-out moulding around each button which allows the buttons to still feel crisp - I just haven't been able to find anything like that for the XZ2C.

There is a hardshell case that I bought - I think it's this one - that has "hinged" cutouts for the buttons and therefore more or less preserves the original feel. The downside is that part of the button areas are open. Nevertheless this is the one I'm using since there's no guesswork when it comes to button operation, especially the camera.

Screen protector - I think the problem with most of the Compact cases is that there's no standoff distance on the front of the cases to actually make a screen protector truly useful, and all the glass screen protectors I've been able to get hold of don't actually fully / properly cover the curved screen. I've applied the best one I got, but I'm still not happy with it.

u/AllTheCaffeine · 4 pointsr/SonyXperia

This one from Amazon has been perfect for me. Dropped multiple times and phone and case still look pristine. Using with this screen protector.

u/Doubleyoujay · 3 pointsr/SonyXperia

Thank you, just confirming will this be able to fit into my z3? because from the pictures shown it seems abit too big

http://www.amazon.com/Lexar-128GB-Platinum-Memory-LSD128BBNL200/dp/B00JST4RSK/ref=sr_1_10?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1412619409&sr=1-10&keywords=128gb+sd+card

Edit: scratch that, just realized thats not a micro card. So ill just keep looking for a micro sd/sdxc/sdhc cards, righto got it thank you !

This is the one i have. Ive had it since September of last year. It has protected my phone from numerous drops onto concrete. No scratches so far. It can fit in my front pocket with case on. I'm a 6ft guy.

u/BeelzeBuff · 1 pointr/SonyXperia

I got this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06Y629VXJ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Fits well. It's not high quality, and I'll definitely pick up the official Sony case once it launches in US (I had my phone shipping from UK). For how its price you can't do better, and there isn't really anything out yet.

I'd like a nice screen protector too, unfortunately all of the ones I've looked into have been reviewed poorly.

EDIT: not going to correct my language, but -wow- I am not used to this keyboard yet.

u/Wildman818 · 1 pointr/SonyXperia

so would i be ok buying SONY XPERIA Z3 COMPACT D5803 BLACK 16GB for t mobile? or you think tmobile might have a diffrent version?

u/finewhitelady · 1 pointr/SonyXperia

I rely on a case to prevent damage from drops. There's a good screen protector from Devilcase but it's expensive. The only other half decent one has mixed reviews, and I don't like that it only comes in black (I bought a blue phone for a reason!). I would have bought a clear one...

u/tonkatsuu · 1 pointr/SonyXperia

I'm a big fan of the Cruzerlite Bugdroid Circuit Case. Having a case really helps with the grippability of the phone since it's a slippery little bugger. The other cases looked a bit too plain for me and there are cut out for the volume/camera buttons, instead of plastic on the buttons (which may be a plus/minus for you).

The cutouts do make finding buttons a tad harder to find since the buttons become flush with the side of the case, but I prefer the tactile feedback when pressing a button as opposed to pressing them through a sheet of plastic.

u/factorion · 1 pointr/SonyXperia

The left side of the phone has two pins and a magnetic strip for a magnetic charger. You can get the cable or use a dock to charge it this way. It lets you charge the phone without having to open the flaps.

Magnetic charging cable

u/jamesey10 · 3 pointsr/SonyXperia

I called Sony, and they told me I wouldn't get a shipment until November 19. I ordered on Oct 16 :( I've cancelled my order.

If anyone wants a brand new, unused, magnetic charging dock ($7.00), magnetic charging wire ($3.00), or RingkeFusion case ($11.00), I'll sell it with free shipping.

I havent tried the DK48 yet but I did get the Magnector X today and I would just warn you that the magnet is somewhat weak and if you have a case on the phone it has an even more loose connection. :\ Kind of dissapointed with it but it gets the job done at least. I plan on getting the DK48 soon though.
