He has to make some sort of cameo in Rogue One I'm sure, but a great Vader movie would be awesome too!

As far as the novel, here is a link to it if you are really interested: http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Paul-S-Kemp/dp/0345511441

The Jedi Path

The Book of Sith

Jedi vs. Sith: The Essential Guide To The Force

None of these are novels, but they sound exactly like what you're looking for. The Jedi Path is an "authentic" training manual and journal written by Jedi Masters and annotated by the more popular Jedi. I assume the Book of Sith is the same thing. Jedi vs. Sith is like all the other Essential Guides out there, just a big reference manual. It's really neat.

The Darth Bane trilogy deals with Sith and their philosophy.

The New Jedi Order series (22 books) deals with an extragalactic species who cannot be sensed in the force, so a lot of the series deals with how the Jedi have to deal with that. It's really good, but it took me almost four years to finish that series.

There's a really great Star Wars picture-book out called "The Adventures of Luke Skywalker" that uses these McQuarrie pictures - and some other excellent one not in the collection posted here! Someone gave it to my 4 year old for his birthday in October (I had recently introduced him to Star Wars...not the movies yet, just the kids' books) and he is obsessed with this one! He makes me read it EVERY night, which I am happy to do! It tells the whole original trilogy story of Luke (about 20-ish pages) and the pictures, as you can see, are breathtaking.

Let's hope we see even more of McQuarrie's influence in the new trilogy!

Shatterpoint pretty clearly shows Mace has been through the orbit of the dark side more than most jedi out there. Also, even if those novelizations are not cannon, they can still take character development inspirations from there.

The Revenge of the Sith novelization also built up Mace pretty well. Read up - they are a much better composed story than the movie.

Below are my recommendations (in no specific order)

u/Toa_Quarax · 6 pointsr/StarWars

The EFX one is pretty good (here's it at Amazon.com), but I think the best value is easily The Black Series stormtrooper helmet, which is being released on Force Friday (September 30). It's even based on the stormtrooper helmets from Rogue One (check out this comparison by "spacebob" on the RPF), and you can already pre-order it from a few places (example). The only problems I can see with it are that the lenses look a little too transparent and Hasbro might find a way to make another surprisingly-terrible voice changer feature.

Thank you. If you are ever curious and have $25 burning in your wallet, the Bandai manufactured ones are great fun to build with minimal tools and a beginners skill set.

u/TumbleDryLow · 1 pointr/StarWars

My personal favorites (although note, neither are canon anymore):

1.) Shatterpoint: follows Mace Windu, and is essentially Star Wars' take on Heart of Darkness.

2.) The Thrawn Trilogy: Widely hailed as the best of the Star Wars EU. In my opinion, it has some of the best and worst elements. The good: a brilliant, nuanced antagonist; the bad: evil clones (a terrible subplot).

I haven't read it yet, but Lost Stars has been very well received (despite being billed as a young adult novel). I'd recommend it if you'd like a new canonical novel.

ahhhhh awesome.
my prized piece is the 80's twin sized sheet set for empire. and lando is only on one spot on the whole sheet set: the pillow cases!

also i got this:
http://www.amazon.com/Mr-Potato-Head-Darth-Tater/dp/B00061I4U6

whats your favorite outta your collection?

u/pepsiotaku · 1 pointr/StarWars

It would definitely be cool, but I think the Dark Forces Audio Dramas fill that gap pretty nicely.

u/publigeekaire · 7 pointsr/StarWars

I tried Ebay (but most of the time, it is sold in 24 hours), a few Star Wars forums, several shops... but it is very rare.

You have this one but the quality is awful:
http://www.amazon.com/Rubies-Costume-Co-2868-Stormtrooper/dp/B00001T38Y/ref=sr_1_2?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1333207245&sr=1-2

The best wereable helmet for a cheaper price with a decent quality is this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003O86M2U/

The upper price for a best quality is the one I bought:
http://www.amazon.com/Stormtrooper-Helmet-eFX-Precision-Cast/dp/B00465MN5A/ref=pd_sbs_a_1

Then, you have a premium version: http://www.stormtrooper-costumes.com/39,stormtrooper_helmets.html

I guess you have other versions but for me, that was already a lot of money (but it's worth it).

If this picture interests anyone, I HIGHLY recommend The Millennium Falcon Owners Manual. I have a copy myself, and it's full of technical diagrams describing everything from modular units from previous iterations of the YT-1300 to cross sections of hyperdrives. Absolutely stunning illustrations, well worth the price of the book.

u/Lucius_Funk · 0 pointsr/StarWars

I picked up the first issue of the DVDs without the theatrical versions, but with the bonus disc with special features. This.

u/Kylon1138 · 1 pointr/StarWars

I recommend getting the prequel trilogy on blu ray - they made some changes I liked (adding CGI Yoda to PT)

As for the OT - I recommend not getting the blu ray, not a fan of the changes they made

[I would get the DVD release of the OT from 2004] (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00003CXCT?psc=1)

u/Ferociousaurus · 2 pointsr/StarWars

I actually have some X-Wing miniatures, which are indeed super cool looking. I was thinking something bigger, though. Like This, but perhaps even bigger and/or nicer. It's possible these Bandai 1/72 guys are actually the ticket, I just don't know much about them.

u/wbhite · 1 pointr/StarWars

I use the shears from a set like this to snip out each piece. It works pretty good.

u/sonictt1 · 1 pointr/StarWars

EDIT: WARNING, just realized that the article I link to spoils the novel. Here's an Amazon link instead. The cover also confirms that the novel is not canon, which is a safe assumption to make anyway.

If you're interested in learning more about Mace Windu (even though I believe this novel is EU), I'd suggest checking out Shatterpoint. It even includes a naked shower fighting scene which I enjoyed imagining... >> <<

u/AceOfSpades713 · 5 pointsr/StarWars

If you're looking for a good book, Jedi vs. Sith: The Essential Guide to the Force is probably one of the best imo.

u/imgkz · 3 pointsr/StarWars

I'm actually trying to pull this off for halloween as well.. The closest one that I have found was on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Rubies-Costume-Co-2868-Stormtrooper/dp/B00001T38Y/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1411704960&sr=8-12&keywords=Rubies+co+stormtrooper

My brother got the vader mask from that company and said it's pretty nice quality considering the price.

u/xblitzkrieg · 1 pointr/StarWars

You mean Darth Tater? Haha, my friend has one on his shelf.

u/IR0NH1DE87 · 1 pointr/StarWars

If you have any desire to BUILD a model X-Wing, you can get the Bandai Resistance X-Wing off Amazon for 20-25 bucks.

You'll have to paint it if you want Poe's black X-Wing and it IS plastic but the detail on it(and Bandais other offerings like the T-65 X-Wing, the Y-Wing, TIE Fighter....) are absolutely astonishing.

Supposedly they're all snap together models so no glue required but they look awesome.

I had been debating getting a whole bunch of those little die cast fighters for my desk or some of the Disney fighters but came across the Bandai models and was blown away by the detail and accuracy

Edit: Link to Bandai T-70 X-Wing

This I own and oh god is it good. It was made before JO but ties together events from DF and JK.

Well it will depend on your definition of 'Affordable'.

Under 30$

Funko Pop's! A good choice for <12$. And there's a wide variety of characters to choose from.

Thrawn is a good re-introduction to one of the most memorable Star Wars villains.

Battlefront II: Inferno Squad serves as a companion piece to the new game coming out next week.

Over 30$

Smuggler's Bounty Box A subscription box by Funko. One Box =25$ 12 month subscription (6 boxes) =150$

Black Series Helmets

Stormtrooper shown. Poe Dameron, Shadow Trooper & Kylo Ren are also available.

Black Series Lightsaber

Darth Vader shown. Luke Skywalker, Rey, Obi-Wan Kenobi & Kylo Ren are also available.

https://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Galactic-Maps-Illustrated/dp/1368003060/

thats the newest canon one

I like Essential Atlas more, but its legends. The Galactic Maps one shows many planet surfaces with points of interest (like spots from the movies).

Is this what you're looking for? Reading the reviews make sure you get the Original Trilogy with the correct cover art. On Amazon, the reviews for the OT and "updated" versions became mixed together for some reason.

It's a radio that you mount
under the cabinets. My wife loves it.

u/gValo · 1 pointr/StarWars

I recently picked this up.

It's a really neat children's storybook that retells the OT using Ralph's artwork

u/LionoftheNorth · 1 pointr/StarWars

If you like it, you should look into The Jedi Path and The Bounty Hunter Code by the same author.

u/Memyselfsomeotherguy · 1 pointr/StarWars

I'd recommend the novelization, the story actually makes some sense

u/braintacks · 2 pointsr/StarWars

Check out the Before the Awakening book they released to create backstory. There's more than the piece about the simulator in there.

u/TheExile4 · 3 pointsr/StarWars

Where were you reading these reviews for Amazon? This page is saying it got an average of about 4.1 stars, which isn't something I would consider "don't read it."

Read The Bounty Hunter Code and then rethink the money factor. (Hint: the Guild's gonna bleed you dry.)

u/WalrusMaximus · 0 pointsr/StarWars

Bought these a whiles back. There's also a bounty hunter one.

The Revenge of the Sith novelization by Matthew Stover can give some clues on this, if you are willing to accept it as canon, too.

The first point is that, in the book, Yoda blames himself for the destruction of the Jedi Order. He sees it as his own personal failure, and specifically his failure in not teaching "the living Force" as Qui-Gon did. This comes from a scene that was originally going to be in Episode III but was ultimately cut and now is only in the book (or you can watch the unfinished version of it in the deleted scenes portion of the Blu-Rays). In that scene, Qui-Gon contacts Yoda through the Force and teaches Yoda how to survive death in spirit. There's still a hint of this scene in the film when Yoda tells Obi-Wan he will teach him to communicate with Qui-Gon as well.

So, in other words, Yoda doesn't trust his own teachings anymore. He feels they ultimately failed the Jedi and he is no longer the teacher to create the new Jedi order that follows the living Force. He goes into retirement, studying how to become a spirit like Qui-Gon and maybe over time influence events after death. That's mostly his plan at least...until The Empire Strikes Back, of course.

Second, as to Luke & Leia: Obi-Wan actually wanted to have Luke & Leia trained in the Force, especially to make up for the failure to train Anakin properly. But Yoda forbids it. Here is the relevant exchange in the book:

>[Obi-Wan:] "I can take the boy, Master Yoda, and you take the girl. We can hide them away, keep them safe--train them as Anakin should have been trained--"

>"No." The ancient Master lowered his head again, closing his eyes, resting his chin on his hands that were folded over the head of his stick.

>Obi-Wan looked uncertain. "But how are they to learn the self-discipline a Jedi needs? How are they to master skills of the Force?"

>"Jedi training, the sole source of self-discipline is not. When right is the time for skills to be taught, to us the living Force will bring them. Until then, wait we will, and watch, and learn."

So here you have Yoda already implementing what Qui-Gon is now teaching him: to let the Force decide the shape of things to come, rather than stick to the old ways that, in Yoda's view, ultimately failed the Jedi. Edit: This might also be why Obi-Wan makes no moves to train Luke, either, at least not for a while. Only when the living Force brings Luke to him after the Sand People attack does he think maybe it's a sign to move toward it. Which makes the scene in the novel still fit.

All of this makes sense to me, but again you would've had to have read the novelization of Episode III to get most of this.
