Make sure your cables are CAT 7 or above, and you're modem needs to be able to push those kinds of speeds. I'm a pretty big tech guy and do a lot of downloading, gaming, streaming and 400mbps works great for me. This is my hardware. My Router and My Modem.
The splitter is outside, right outside the box then the coax runs around the house straight to the modem. Too dark to make out which side is which, but I was able to get a picture of the model number.
