For higher end specs, you could look into the Eluktronics N850 for $1250 which has some pretty high end specs with a Kaby Lake i7, 16gb of ram, 512gb SSD and a GTX 1060 GPU. It also has a 1080p IPS display, decent battery, and weighs in at 5.9 lbs. It isn't quite as sleek as other options, but it avoids red accents.

Other options include the Dell xps 15 if you can push your budget a bit. It is an excellent option that has a great battery (if you get the 1080p version), an excellent display, and it's lightweight at 4.0 lbs. It's one of the most well reviewed laptops on the market.

Another new option if you want to save a bit is the Asus Vivobook for $1000. It doesn't have much reviews as it just went on the market a few days ago, but it's pretty thin, while maintaining pretty good specs with a GTX 1050, quad core processor, 256gb SSD + 1TB HDD and 16gb ram. It has a 47Wh battery which can last up to 6 or so hours of light use.

Finally, consider the Lenovo Yoga 720 which is currently on sale for $1000 (or at least the best model of it is). It comes with a Quad Core processor, GTX 1050 graphics card, and has customizable specs. It has a pretty good 1080p display as well, a battery advertised up to 10 hours, and has a touchscreen with 2 in 1 capabilities.

As far as the new RTX line I don't think it's worth it to buy them today or even next year, the main thing about those cards is the Ray tracing and not a lot of games take use of it right now .

At the mentioned budget, you have almost every option available.

Dell XPS 15

Explicitly NOT a gaming laptop but with the specs of one. Is 0.66 inches thin, weighing in at 2.0kgs. Best screen in terms of brightness, crisp images and colour reproduction. Also, the best in terms of customer support. Produces the least heat of the three.

Razer Blade 15

Happy Diwali all year round. 0.66 inches thin, looks and feels like a Macbook Pro. Is a gaming beast inside. Gets hot, but thermal management is at it's best. But the fans won't be always silent. Imagine a Macbook Pro but which can game as well as the other things Apple is the best at.

Gigabyte Aero 15

Priciest and the bulkiest of the bunch at 0.8 inches thick (albeit the same weight as the XPS). The 144Hz screen is going to be a blessing for a MOBA like HotS. Despite being heavily gamer oriented, has ultrabook level battery life.

For especially that video rendering, it will take a powerful quad core preferably i7 processors, more than 8 GB RAM and a dedicated graphics card to do well. If you were to go a little over $1200, this Eluktronics N857HK1 Pro-X Special Edition laptop would do a very good job for you. It not only has the powerful 7th gen quad core i7 processor, but also a fast SSD, solid gtx 1050 Ti dedicated graphics card and very good 16 GB RAM..In addition, it has a very good cooling system which is crucial, nice build quality and beautiful IPS 1080p display. If you are willing to spend a little higher, you could get this 2017 Eluktronics P650HP6 that is actually optimized for graphic design and has a wonderful gtx 1060 dedicated graphics card.. I must also say that both laptops have a very good backlit full keyboard with a numeric pad.

I recently picked up the Acer Aspire R 15 2017 for ~$495 after tax at Bestbuy off a slickdeal that was going on. Im kind of having buyers remorse as im seeing these quadcore i5 laptops some even with dedicated GPU's (which isn't by any means necessary) but would be nice to have and I figure I could pay $100 more for quad care and potentially get some gaming out of it too I would.

Size wise I like it, im a college student but I wouldn't mind a smaller 13" laptop but still want to keep the 2-1 and touchscreen aswell as the 1080p IPS and SUPERB aluminum build quality and feel. SSD isn't an issue for me since I plan to replace it with my 250GB samsung 840 evo anyway. I still got till next-next Wednesday to decide wether to return or not and to see what else comes up. Im scared this dual core i5u processor wont hold up for the next 2-3 years which is why im looking into the quadcore lineup. Lighter would be nicer too around 3-4lbs if possible and gaming definitely isn't needed since its for college and I already have a gaming pc at home.

So a 13", 2-1 1080p IPS, quadcore i5/i7 (maybe or dual core? IDK), 8GB ram, HDD or SSD is ok (since ill be upgrading), longer battery life and nice build quality is what im looking for . Something on the lighter side. At most looking to spend $600.
Sorry for the long writeup but i've never really shopped around for a laptops until now. Also im assuming used and refurbished laptops bought on amazon come with no warranty? Also something with a nice feeling trackpad with good scrolling. Is lenovo good for these?

Also how does the Intel Core m3-6Y30 Processor compare to the i5 7200u or the like i5's?

These for portability is what ive narrowed it down too:

https://www.amazon.com/ZenBook-UX360CA-UBM1T-13-3-inch-Touchscreen-Convertible/dp/B01HZT6AR0 ($450 used)

https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B01GHQOD8U/ref=dp_olp_all_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=all ($530 used newer model)

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Swift-i5-6200U-Windows-SF314-51-52W2/dp/B01LWZ7JB2 (better processor similar size $620)

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Touch-Windows-Convertible-SP513-51-55ZR/dp/B01M18YU9I (better processer $540 used)

Debating on these with GPU's:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MRTG0JF (ddr4, worse gpu than dell but seems to be better quality.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B015PYYDMQ (afraid of dell build quality)

haha, Well I love your honest opinion about the shit you care about.

Anways, you don't need anything too ridiculous to max out your budget. The MSI GT60 Dominator-424 would do great for you.

Also, it would be a good idea to get a Samsung 840 Evo and slap that in there as your boot drive. It's pretty easy as it comes with drive cloning software so you don't even have to reinstall your OS or anything.

It'll also play your games at high to ultra settings, even with WoW addons whic you should have if you're trying to play competitively. Also it will be well capable of playing with high settings even with the new character models being introduced in WoD.
