The switch definitely has the possibility for many accessories. I'll link all the stuff I've bought at the end because I would recommend all of them

There is built in storage but not enough. I will recommend any micro SD card that's either 64 or 128 gb depending on how many games you plan on downloading. If you're going mostly mobile eshop games would definitely be more convenient.

As for other items, I love my pro controller but its not a necessity. I also only use it at home so it might not be for you.

You need a case for it, no two ways about it. The good news is that they are pretty cheap. There's cases that just carry the console, that carry the console and some extras, and that carry pretty much everything you could want to carry. Unless you're taking the dock often, I would just suggest a case with some extra storage.

I'd suggest a battery bank. There are a million options out there, and most of it has to do with cost. Just buy a size you like from a trusted brand like anker, ravpower, or aukey.

You also need a screen protector, because the plastic screen is not exactly durable. Anything works, but I would recommend tempered glass.

Good start. If you want to make your Switch a truly portable console, I'd recommend this HDMI to USB-C adapter, as well as a retractable HDMI cable. This combo will fit into any carrying case, along with maybe another set of Joycons, and you'll be able to play literally anywhere super easily, for less money than it takes to buy a new dock and way more compactly. This has made it super easy to take my Switch to other people's houses, to different countries, and even to my work (me and my co-workers played Smash on a gigantic conference room screen while working Christmas eve).

Yes

This is what I got: homase Nintendo Switch Hard Back Case Cover Anti-Scratch Transparent Crystal Protector Shock https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071VHQ9KW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_RvEszbVT1GN2T

No issues, easy to remove for docking. Got this too: amFilm Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Nintendo Switch 2017 (2-Pack) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N3ASPNV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_3wEszbDD7RE2K

PowerA Switch Everywhere Messenger Bag https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N22YAIP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_CxEszbS7T1JSP

First screen protector that installed with ease, better than icarez. Do it in a humid bathroom. And messenger bag I didn't want but knew I'd be frequently taking my system solo and sometimes the dock to relatives so it was a good price, $30 like new. It was sealed!

Anyway if you frequently go from docked to not, it all depends on your controller arrangement. If you can leave the stock joycons on its not time consuming to take off the tablet clear protector. But daily removal and installation of controllers for a grip would get annoying?

I'm hunting for either a pro controller from colorware or a rubber cover not black for neon joycons on stock comfort grip. Good luck!

u/Galen640 · 10 pointsr/Switch

First of all: Screen Protector. Once it's on you never notice it, doesn't hurt to get that extra safety!

I've bought 10 games so far, and I'd say get all of these because I have enjoyed them. BOTW, Splatoon 2, Sonic Mania, Rayman Legends, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 (assuming you like DBZ,) Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Pokken Tournament DX, Street Fighter 2 Ultra, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, and Yooka Laylee.

If I had to pick 3 for you to get to start out then I would pick Breath of the Wild, Splatoon 2, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. I think that's enough variety to keep you busy for awhile.

A carrying is always a good thing, I'd recommend This case because it's the one I use and does its job.

Accessory wise I have joycon grips which are AMAZING when playing with one joycon.

Also, the grip it comes with is trash. Get the Power A Grip it feels A LOT better in your hands.

As for SD Cards, it depends. I have a 32GB SD card. I mainly buy physical games, The extra space is for screenshots and videos, and download only games, like Sonic Mania, Yooka Laylee, etc. If you're going for digital only then get a 256GB. Sure you won't use a ton of space now, but you might a few years down the line. Also, do NOT get the official Nintendo ones. They are a RIP-OFF! Here are some nice alternatives that will get the job done for A LOT cheaper: 32 GB 64 GB 128 GB and finally 256 GB

If you have any other questions feel free to ask OP, and other (potential) switch owners!

Quick edit: sorry that some links won't be put with the text, no idea what the issue is

u/Crease_Greaser · 2 pointsr/Switch

I use a clip on grip thing that would probably solve your issue. It’s simple but I love it. Got one at my local game store for 15 bucks. Only downside is it doesn’t fit in my case with it on. It should hold your joycons in place.

PDP has some kits with some cheap accessories. It includes a case as well, this all costs around 30 bucks (USD)
Nyko has a accessory known as "Clip Grip Power". It's the Joycon grip with a 3000 mAh power bank inside, and a phone stand for the Nintendo Switch Online App. I have one and it's really good, especially if you don't already own a power bank for your switch. This was 25 bucks. Very good price compared to the charging grip by Nintendo.
Split Joycon grips are available for less than 15 bucks, I have a pair (I forget what brand, but most look the same) and they work great. Back to Nyko, they said they are going to make a portable dock that is essentially the same one as the official dock. Here's a amazon link; go to nyko.com for a gamestop release date. https://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Portable-Docking-Kit-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B071X7C1B4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1501733668&sr=8-1&keywords=743840872252
As of now, this is supposed to be 50 bucks.
HORI recently made a controller which is cheaper than the pro controller, with a few drawbacks, like it's wired, no gyroscope or NFC reader, and so on. I don't own one; but it's 30 bucks. It seems like a good controller.

Honestly, cases will be on your taste. Some are too big (like that game traveler deluxe case; jeez that's huge.) Some offer too little. You decide. I just stuck with a basic BoTW case with 14 game cards for the future.

u/TheRealLimitlessHate · 1 pointr/Switch

Yes, you absolutely need a tempered glass screen protector. The Switch screen is plastic and is tough to shatter but easy to scratch. A microSD card is also a necessity, but avoid cards advertised as being specifically for the Switch as there's no difference between them and cheaper unlicensed cards.

A carrying case is similarly recommended. Don't just throw your switch in your backpack or day bag or whatever. I like this one for its capacity for 14 cartridges: https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Premium-Travel-Console-Games/dp/B01MS7AI9G?th=1

The Pro Controller is probably the best new console controller since the 360 pad. It's incredibly high-quality and its built-in 3DS battery (yeah, really) will keep a charge for a staggeringly long time. If the price tag is too much, the PDP Mario/Zelda/etc. wired controllers have reviewed well.

Case: Butterfox or Orzly on Amazon. Even AmazonBasics is good if you don't have to carry a lot of stuff with you. Much better than the official ones from Ninty.

Orzly or Amfilm glass screen protector.

Cheap metal adjustable play stand.

An AC adapter. If you just need to charge while playing, get the AmazonBasics one b/c it's only like $11 and charges in handheld mode and playing, but if you need to play while docked or using an adapter, just get the Ninty one, as it's only like $2 more than the alternatives.

Finally, this is the Anker Battery Pack I've seen recommended, though I can't provide personal input. It is a bit pricey.

u/xion1992 · 1 pointr/Switch

I would recommend you get a stand similar to this https://www.amazon.com/DIMICA-Adjustable-Foldable-Multi-Angle-Aluminum/dp/B075651MQZ/ if you bring your Swtich.

1 it makes charging while playing possible

2 it is way more comfortable than playing handheld

3 you can easily play games with the stranger/s next to you if you want

u/ngarnham · 1 pointr/Switch

I'm in Canada and I bought the following: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B06WGSKRKL/ref=pe_386430_121528420_TE_dp_2
Great case that can hold many games as well as the joycon straps and some ear buds that I keep in the zippered compartment. The charger that came with the console may fit in there as well but seemed to put a lot of pressure on the system. It is not bulky at all.

I also bought a screen protector:https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01N9RG3XS/ref=pe_386430_121528420_TE_dp_1
It went on easily and still looks great!

u/Stretchy_Boi · 2 pointsr/Switch

I haven't seen anything exactly like what you're talking about.

Do you like the feel of the joy-con grip? Have you considered something like this?

They also have joy-con cases that don't attach to the tablet, but also have the "comfort grip" shape to them. I would think these would be less comfortable than the above option, though.

u/reddit455 · 1 pointr/Switch

Ghetto.

but I happened to have one of these for some reason. works great. even allows you to charge it while "docked" LOL.

After seeing the issues my friend had with his giant case being too big, I personally went with these and yes they fit together and work great.

Would suggest getting some febreze and spraying the case to get rid of the manufactured smell if that bothers you, as it solved my issue with it.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B077FFBTVJ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

If you plan to use it when traveling, I would suggest getting something that doesn't scream it's a switch to avoid drawing unwanted attention.

u/exceptionthrown · 1 pointr/Switch

Yeah, that would be nice. One thing you can do is buy one of the dockless dongles like this so you can "dock" the switch without actually docking it.

It would be nice if it fit the normal dock though...

u/Rhemyst · 1 pointr/Switch

If you use a basic HDMI to DVI connector, you won't get any sound. Sound can't go over DVI like that. You a piece of equipment that accepts HDMI as input and outputs a DVI signal and a separate audio signal. Something like this : https://www.amazon.com/TNP-HDMI-DVI-Converter-Audio/dp/B01MQYTUAK/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_23_t_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=NHTNSQXB5NCBVH5ZWCWJ

As for the speaker you'd plug on this device, I usually go for entry-level Logitech speakers. This are usually good enough.

u/pkcd · 1 pointr/Switch

Personally I wouldn't use that power bank. We've seen 3rd party docks brick switch consoles already, due to the switch's incompatible usb-c drivers. Plus, Anker has a battery pack that is licensed by Nintendo to work w/ the switch for not much more, so you'd probably be better off with them.

Battery packs are here:

https://www.amazon.com/PowerCore-Nintendo-Official-13400mAh-Portable-MacBooks/dp/B07FP4N96G/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1538751895&sr=8-2&keywords=anker+switch

I got this cord and this charger for charging while in hand held mode and it works great.

u/ORTOX · 3 pointsr/Switch

This is the one I got.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07SV1PW6N/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I love it. Since it's a single piece that covers the tablet and Joy-Cons, it makes the whole kit feel much sturdier when playing in handheld mode.

The Switch is still dockable with the case on it.

u/deeznutz75 · 2 pointsr/Switch

youre better off buying a dockable case.

https://www.amazon.com/Compatible-FYOUNG-Protective-Accessories-Protector/dp/B078NB6TWZ/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=switch+dockable+case&qid=1550378563&s=videogames&sr=1-4

I have the red/blue version of this case. It works, it has saved my switch from a few drops. It also comes with a glass screen protector. For $14 dollars it cant be beat.

u/TheBigYello1isTheSun · 2 pointsr/Switch

I’d get the Nyko travel dock if I were you. It’s small and foldable and takes up way less space than the original dock. I have 2 portable docks, my main dock is in my bedroom, and outside of having the portable docks for travel, I find that the best use I will get from them is just leaving them hooked to the other TVs in my house so that I can dock to whatever TV I’m near without having to unhook the main one from my bedroom and plug it up elsewhere. The price went up a bit, but it’s worth it.

Adapter

I’ve been considering getting something like this for when I’m on the go so I can hookup to a friends tv.

u/Phaedrus0230 · 2 pointsr/Switch

There are definitely adaptors that work, but I was under the impression they needed to be made for the switch... I'm guessing thats "proper"

example

It's worth noting that thing requires external power to work. A normal usb-c to hdmi adaptor for a computer can be powered by the computer.

u/Alechiel · 1 pointr/Switch

I ordered this, haven't received yet but it sounds really good for the price.

My recommendations:

Lamicall stand. Extremely sturdy, folds up small, perfect for charging on the go.
I can't reccommend this thing enough. Hooked it onto the back of a seat last week while my flight was landing and had no problems with it shaking or sinking.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071D3V38H/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_NYgnzbZDKP2FQ

Also would recommend a good battery by anker with powerIQ, along with an anker charging cable.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01K6TA748/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_s8gnzbPRKBKJ8

One more thing I'd recommend is the butterfox carrying case. Not the prettiest, but by far the most protective and capacitive. I've been able to keep my anker battery, charging cable, extra joycons and stand in the spare pocket.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06W585TW7/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_CbhnzbXCFSJD6

And don't forget protection:

I would specifically buy the 26800+ because it was approved by Nintendo for Switch use.

I picked up the messenger bag, this way I have my arm sitting over it while walking. I trust no one.
