They're these stackable tray things with little label-card slots that we keep our paid credit tickets and other stuff in. It makes it easier for us to organize everything because sometimes customers will come up to the register to pay, or a busser will have to pick up a credit slip from a table. It's just easier for all of us to know exactly where to put everyone else's stuff.

We started using them only for credit slips, but they ended up acting like little catch-all's for whatever.

Not a server, but I just bought these. Not TOO tight and a pretty good deal.

edit: to wear after knee surgery.

People who transition from employee to manager (especially in the same unit) typically have difficulty due to the change of responsibilities. You want to read this book. I am adamant that any promote-from-within candidate transitioning from employee to manager read this and discuss it with me at their interview. Takes about 2 hours total, is a very easy read, and contains some really great information that will help you along the path you're taking.

I have a pair of these. They help a lot by blocking out the ambient crowd and music noise on some nights in our restaurant, but still letting me hear orders. Hearing loss runs in my family and loud noise makes me panicky, so these little babies are a huge help. U/Jacko37 has good suggestions too about basic knowledge. Also, practice carrying drink trays at home, preferably in the shoes you will wear at work. It really does get better with practice.

I got a pair of these Mozo sneakers recently, and I love them. The slip resistance is great, they look professional enough to pass muster at my white tablecloth steakhouse, but also casual and stylish enough to be worn out and about on my days off. They're lightweight and comfortable, too.

Sharpie Pen Fine Point Pen, 12 Black Pens (1742663) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001B66DXU/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_u1nzwb4SF8ZD6

This is now my favorite pen. Works like crap when signing carbon copies, but it's smooth and lightweight. Has a similar bold writing style like the G2 pens. These pens are my personal pens, they do not get handed out.

Best advice I have for small business in general: Dave Ramsey's EntreLeadership

His related material is also excellent.

I had a similar things happen with my boyfriend and a pen. It wasn't as catastrophic because he noticed before drying and was able to insta-wash before all the ink set in. I still have a couple of spots but nothing bad.

I have to say, if you are still serving, I recommend this.

I put my lighter, wine key, pens, car key, and ID all in this pouch while i'm at work. Lighter and wine key in the front part. Car keys and ID on the inside (along with a tampon) in one of the side inside pouches. Pens go in the middle. I put the whole things in my apron pocket, leave just the top unzipped, and I can get to my pens all day. Since I use the other stuff less, it keeps it organized. When I get home, I zip the top up, and throw the whole thing in my work drawer.

I lose way less pens, and I never do the, "Where's my WINE KEY I have to go NOW!?" search anymore. Oh yeah, and if a pen explodes, it doesn't get on your uniform. Just in the pouch.

Uniball Signo 207 are my go-to pen for bar rushes, but if it's a slow shift, I use a cheap glittter pen. Makes our chef smile, because we hand write our tickets.

I've had these since last year and I've been really pleased. The silicone tip makes the extra coldness of the metal a non-issue, and the biggest ones are great for smoothies

I'm so glad you stood your ground and asserted your boundaries!!! That's so wonderful! I hope she remembers that and never grabs anyone else's hair.

At one point in my life I did have to wear a wig. I could only afford a sort of shitty one ("invisible part", synthetic fiber, this one's really similar if that description is jibberish). But generally it looked ok. I was at work and someone tugged on it, but it didn't fall off, and she goes "Oh it's real! I thought it was a wig." My heart was in my throat!

I always wonder what would have happened if I didn't have it fastened as solidly as I did. What if it came off? What would she have done?

Start with setting the table, it has alot of stuff in it that seems like commonsense, but, if you do it.......you will find that most of it works
"make it nice"

I came here to say this. Little more expensive than a free check presenter, but the Waiter Wallet is great for organizing your life during service and looks way more professional than shoving scraps of paper in a check presenter.

Other servers gaze with envy upon mine.

It's been a few years, but what worked really well for me / I rarely needed $ from the till. The only time I had to is when I'd walk in an immediately get a $50 or $100 bill on a $20 bill. Other than that I'd almost always have a $20 bill immediately after the start of shift.

I would bring $20 in paper, and probably $4-5 in coin.
$5 bill x 3
$1 bill x 5

$0.25 x 16
$0.10 x 15
$0.05 x 15

The coin was held in something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Custom-Accessories-91116-Coin-Holder/dp/B0001XPC7C

I essentially would fill it up and call it a day.

You learned the hard way you need to scoop up your checks asap.

Even if it's a charge, it's always good to grab it asap to make sure they didn't take the receipt or forget to sign.

Does your place use check books, they help keep your tips more private, and are more professional all around.

try this I personally haven’t used it but have heard great things! I’m buying one for myself for an upcoming music festival I’m attending. I had a terrible chafing incident a couple years ago from wet shorts at an amusement park, I feel your pain.

Just saying there's not a large barrier to entry to avoid rolling by hand.

Amazon has this one for $26 Prime with good reviews instead.

find a copy of The Bartender's Black Book. http://www.amazon.com/Epic-91-006-Bartenders-Black-Book/dp/0965774643 - study it like you were taking a test in high school! If you can master the basics you'll be better than half the bartenders working.
