>How effective were tanks in the Vietnam war? Can't imagine that they were particularly effective due to the nature of Guerilla warfare.
Against the Vietcong, not very, but against the NVA they actually were pretty useful considering the NVA was organized much more like a conventional army than guerrillas. Flame tanks were (unsurprisingly) especially useful in urban fighting.
This is a good book for this subject.
This might be a good gift, though it is just a bit more than 20.
This is another great book that your person might enjoy.
I love them, got some myself as well.

Those are very good and detailed books.
For those two tanks, I recommend the books by Thomas L. Jentz and Hilary L. Doyle. The books they have out in regards to German heavy tanks list and illustrate all branches of development from the first prototypes to the finished tank. The two you would need for the 3601 (H) and the 4502 (P) would be found in these two books:

There’s a great book I have on American armor from WW1 that utilizes this poster as the cover, and it’s got this old school biggles book texture to it
MVTF tour guide HERE! Can also confirm!
That up there is one of the pictures from this book:
http://www.amazon.com/Inside-Great-Tanks-Hans-Halberstadt/dp/1861262701
It's from back in the days when the place was really active, but before it was open to the public, so people wouldn't see the vehicles at all aside from these pictures. It's worth picking up for the used price there.
Excellent! What is the publication date? Amazon has one from 2016 and so I was curious how comparable they are.
Amazon’s title is slightly different:
Tanks: 100 Years of Armoured Warfare https://www.amazon.com/dp/0233004955/

I got the info from the Osprey book on British tanks WW1-1939 by David Fletcher - definitely worth a look if you can get access to a copy, if only for the details on the various experimental tanks.
During WW1, the British not only fielded the first tanks, they also tested out the first APC, the first SPG, the first amphibious APC, first recovery tanks, first combat engineering tanks...
This one?
I also thought Red Army was pretty cool but that was ages ago.
I spent about 40 dollars for this + paints and glue (~$10). Here’s the amazon page: https://www.amazon.com/Tamiya-Models-Tiger-Mid-Production/dp/B000LFUGBW/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=2G8AKUCT6W9PH&keywords=tiger+tank+model&qid=1555709097&s=gateway&sprefix=tiger+tank+model&sr=8-3
