I purchased one of these from a chinese retailer because it was a knock off, but it works fine: http://www.amazon.com/MK809III-RK3188-Cortex-Android-Bluetooth/dp/B00EE4KKDA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1412298515&sr=8-1&keywords=android+tv+stick

I upload movies from my pc via ftp over lan and using Mxplayer I can play any movies I want, h264, mkv, avi even my dash cam video. It's android on a stick and it works great.

The beauty of the device is that you attach a usb hub to the one usb port and attach a mouse keyboard or w/e interface you like and a hard drive or two, since 8gb is a joke nowadays.

Sort of yes. Phillips announced they hit 200 lumens per watt in the lab in 2013 or so. In 2014 Cree announced they broke 300 lumens per watt in the lab but most the light bulbs available on the market cheaply are still around 100 lumens per watt.

Incandescent are about 15 lumens/watt.
CFL are about 65 lumens/watt.
The cheap/popular LED bulbs are about 75 - 85 lumens/watt.

There are bulbs like the nonoleaf that list 120 lm/watt.
The 40w vintage/Edison style LED's are also about 100 lm/watt.

LED's are already the overall cheapest option but not by so much yet that companies are removing CFL's from shelves or anything yet. With as much as cost and efficiency have improved over the last few years it might not take that long before it happens though and there are other applications like portable displays where a 10-20% improvement can make a huge difference to battery life.

Perfect, I have the same phone and wireless charging stuff to go with it.

You can get a tag for $10 here, and a charger for $20 here. I'd definitely recommend it, it's super awesome and convenient even if you do have a working charge port.

You're perfectly free to repair your own laptop.

You have a right to repair your own laptop.

But you haven't got a right to get Apple to help you.

--------------------

Richard Feynman told the story of the old electrician who was upset at these new microchip things. Because the guy couldn't understand how he was supposed to get in there with this soldering iron to fix a transistor.

You don't. You don't fix it. You can try, but the fact that you can't is your problem.

They're perfectly free to use technology that you cannot repair; that's the way it goes.

I agree with you that would be pretty sweet. But you can achieve something pretty similar with a USB header to USB female adapter and putting the unifying receiver inside your case.

I have one of these, one port has my unifying receiver, the other has an Xbox controller dongle. Works great.

Well they have the watch phones which have a pretty good battery life according to this random example from amazon. Granted that one is rather cheap, which is why I'm pretty excited by the LG that you were talking about.

The Sansa Clip devices are pretty popular.
The storage is accessed in the same way as a USB drive. With Rockbox it can play pretty much any format, log plays to a scrobble file. It's cheap, sturdy and reliable with good battery life.

If the audio quality on the x-fi3 is any were near as good as the original, it should be a good purchase... I used to love my Creative Zen.

If you can spend $30 more, get the RT66

If you can spend another $30, get the AC66

For fun you can flash Merlin firmware.

I also like the Apple Airport Extreme. Good if you don't have game consoles. (Consoles like uPnP, and Apple does not have that.) It's fast, stable, just works. A lot of IT pros use them at home, because no reboots, restarts, hassles. Just works.)

I've perused some of the responses here, and based on your feedback it almost seems like you want a computer built into a tv, for simple media consumption?

I have (almost) the same thing set up. I bought a nice LG flatscreen (no fancy smartTV or anything) and built a small Home Theatre PC.

Here's what you want to look for for a HTPC:

  • HDMI - It allows you to easily connect your video/audio to the TV
  • Reasonable graphics card - Don't need anything super high end, a $20 stick will do just fine, so long as it can handle High Def video
  • Small case size - this is tricky, because if you're not familiar with the names you may be confused. Look for a size MiniATX or MicroATX case and board.
  • (Optional, but recommended) a 'lap' keyboard, such as a Logitech K400

Once you have the HTPC, you can hook it into your TV, and then use the TV as you would a giant PC monitor.

If you load up XMBC (a home theatre program) you can easily organize and watch movies and videos from within a '100 foot interface', meaning; large text, easy to read from across your living room, simple navigation.

    Hope this helps!

Did you get the induction version? I adore it, the rice is so incredibly good and stays perfectly edible for days!

Ours got wet and fried a circuit board recently and going back to the $10 old one was such a step back in time. Crusty rice on the bottom, soggy rice on top, stayed fresh for minutes at a time and then became completely inedible. I was so happy when it got back from repair!

Well people with £1,000, $1,000 or €1,000 headphones aren't usually using their phone for their audio source at all. Most people who spend that much on headphones get dedicated mp3 players with high quality DAC's such as this.

Unless their filthy rich, anyone spending $1000 on headphones has probably already invested in a high quality DAC and Mp3 player that can play lossless file types. I can't imagine anyone drops $1000 on headphones just to use their phone as their source.

At that price point I would really recommend a cheap Windows laptop like an HP Stream. A PC is going to be quite a bit more capable and standardized than a Chromebook.

And an iPod for getting work done is just a fucking joke. Don't even think about it.

9 years later and they are much improved. Sound is nearly perfect in two of my cars. I live in San Jose, CA and use 102.7 fm frequency.

is it cheap ? no. is it top performance,& top speed ? yes. and it comes with an interface that's easy to use and well thought out. you won't find a better router for any price for home use. (there's a newer, more expensive model, but you don't need it, trust me) i've had mine for about a year now. never crashed, never lost it's settings, never slowed down once even tho i use netflix, bitorrent, and serve up large files from my nas to the internet on a regular basis.
