here's what I'd recommend

Samsung Q8FN

this TV is pretty outstanding, the reflections are really great on this and the colors are awesome. local dimming makes it better, with deep black levels.

u/sinlightened · 2 pointsr/Televisions

That's a good price for that 60hz 4K.. But I don't really recommend 60hz 4Ks. You're right about a 4k being kind of useless if your main focus is gaming. Something 1080p with better input latency and refresh rate would be a better choice IMO.. Like a http://www.amazon.com/Sony-KDL55W800C-55-Inch-1080p-Smart/dp/B00R45XC0Y

4ks will have a slower input latency, and I know you said you don't care about smart features, but there's awesome opportunity for Android games and old school emulators on Sony Android TVs. (Pair your ps4 controller with it, it's awesome). I use to use my ps for Netflix and stuff but now it's so much easier and more enjoyable on Android TV.

Yeah I would definitely make people aware that the only audio outs are optical and bluetooth and the bluetooth part can be temperamental. I was counting on 3.5mm out. I even moved my 2.1 LG Stereo CM4550 to my bedroom to use as external speakers. And the TV is still having issues connecting to it. So when it can't even reliably connect to their own products, you know it's an issue. I'm pretty sure it's a software issue as well since resetting the TV allows it to successfully connect. It's just if I then turn off the tv and try to reconnect the next day, it won't connect. It will search and see the device but fail to connect. And yes, the LG is on the bluetooth mode. I've done extensive troubleshooting. I'm a Software Developer so I'm a more advanced (read: not completely moronic) user.

I just looked at the 940E specs on Sony's site and it says that for headphone out it has

>1 (Side/Hybrid with Headphone and Subwoofer Out)

So it looks like it does have 3.5mm out. Can you confirm it does have headphone out? Because with my LG I saw a headphone port and assumed it was an out port. It's 3.5mm in. That makes no sence to me because why would anyone want to go out of their way to play something on the crappy internal speakers?

Here is a picture of my bedroom. Yes that’s my kitty sleeping on my laptop. Tvs are a 40” Changhong LED, 65” LG OLED, and 48” Samsung LCD. I usually use one for watching Netflix or Hulu and the other to simultaneously play PS4. I rarely use the Changhong. Probably should move it to my family room.

Hey, I'm very interested to learn more! I'm in Canada, and Black Friday price drops don't seems to be released to the public yet, so your comment is interesting.

I believe you meant the regular price for the 55'' B8 to be $2999, not $3999. At least that's what it is on Costco now.

I'm personally more interested in a 65'' C8. Judging from the Amazon history, regular price is around $4000, and it dropped a few times to $3500. Can I expect the Black Friday price to be $3000?

And from your personal experience, where would be the best place to buy a TV for someone living in Quebec? Go directly to BestBuy/Walmart/Tanguay? Order online from Amazon? From somewhere else?

u/agent_of_entropy · -1 pointsr/Televisions

Right now all the rage is the new TCL 6 Series (R615, R617). I personally wouldn't buy a box of Cracker Jack from Best Buy, much less a television. But, whatever. Check out the TCL 55R617 55-Inch 4K Ultra HD Roku Smart LED TV (2018 Model) on Amazon.com. They also have the TCL 55S405 55-Inch 4K Ultra HD Roku Smart LED TV (2017 Model) for $380 if you're looking so save some money. TCL 49S405 49-Inch 4K Ultra HD Roku Smart LED TV (2017 Model) is $330 if you're really strapped for cash. All of which will be superior entertainment delivery vehicles to any non-OLED LG product.

u/whatyousaymayne · 1 pointr/Televisions

Definitely not that. For starters, the RU8000 is every bit as good as the Q60R. Aside from that, there are much better sets for the price. I would check out the Vizio M Quantum series. It has good native contrast. Just be careful, as there are 2 different versions of the M series, and one isn't as good as the other. You want a G1 M series, not the G0.

Idk about that I have a Samsung 42" 720p that we use in the master bedroom and have for 7 years just fine. I got a 720p because I wanted to save when 1080p was out.

I guess I should say I don't think that to be true for everything. Yes if you buy a Seki 60" you can't be mad it lasted 5 years.

What about this 60"?

u/gamefreak613 · 2 pointsr/Televisions

Current set is a SONY VEGA (something) manufactured in 2005. It was 55" 1 HDMI port and supported only 720p. It also had numerous component and composite ports. I used an HDMI switcher and a converter box. I used this set since about 2012. Bought it used for very cheap. :P

I was looking at the sony900e series....but was thinking about 65"....but do I really want to go up that much in my budget...not sure...

I was also considering the Samsung Electronics UN65MU8000 65-Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV (2017 Model)

I may need help deciding between size and quality of manufacturer/product...

I also noticed the Sony900E has component hookups which is promising for my older consoles being supported on it. (at least I saw that on the 65" 2017 model)

u/oozles · 1 pointr/Televisions

In the same boat as you OP. Amazon has a 40" one from TCL, a brand I'm unfamiliar with, for $270 that I'm thinking about purchasing. If you have a PS4 Pro and want to do 4k there is this 43" one for $350.

Anyone have opinions on TCL?

edit: After glancing around for like two minutes on this sub it seems like TCL certainly won't be as high quality as some of the more expense brand names, but they still produce a pretty solid product for the price.

u/ZZZ_123 · 1 pointr/Televisions

Spend the extra money on sound, or did you just plan on using the TV speakers? I know everybody dumps on soundbars, but my parents have this and I really like the sound and bass for movies. Wireless setups are SO NICE.

Check rtings.com for in depth tv reviews. They're great.

u/Shadow8580 · 1 pointr/Televisions

I looked at that one and almost pulled the trigger. I ended up going to for the 6 series on the prime deal right now on amazon due to people saying picture quality , Brightness, and blacks being much better for just a couple hundred dollars difference. Still cost less then that Samsung I was about to purchase before I heard such good things about TCL.

I got the 55" version due to my distance from sitting area to TV.

u/NeckBeardKillah · 1 pointr/Televisions

For 750 the Vizio m is your best bet. It's a 4k uhdtv. The 50 inch on amazon is 628 plus tax right now. I just bought this TV a couple weeks ago and am happy with it. Vizio tvs use sony panels which are very good. They are definately better than the panels samsung uses. Lg probably has better quality but the 4k uhdtvs would be out of your price range for a 50-55 inch tvs. http://www.amazon.com/VIZIO-M43-C1-43-Inch-Ultra-Smart/dp/B00T63YUJO?th=1&psc=1

u/gnarlnick · 1 pointr/Televisions

Here’s the soundbar I have. Sounds great and gets really loud.

There’s other cheaper ones, but that’s the one I recommend. Also you can plug in a BT speaker or w/e via aux if the TV supports it.

u/VampyreLust · 1 pointr/Televisions

Though the Vizio P series is great and E series passable the D class is generally crap. I think the only one I could really recommend at that level is the TLC 6 series from 2018. The 55" goes for $670 on amazon, you may be able to find better prices elsewhere.

u/WaidWilson · 1 pointr/Televisions

Sony XBR55X900E 55-Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart LED TV (2017 Model) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MUG21R7/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fA4EAb0Z60D9M

Go with that one and get it from amazon warehouse deals. Fantastic tv.

u/RadiumNation · 1 pointr/Televisions

What about this?

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y6FSV5Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_9n4GAbK8E5B82

Is it worth the price jump from the vizeo? My local best buy has it for 600

I did notice the phillips does not seem to support hdr

Not sure about 2019 models but you’re not gonna find a better tv for under 1000

Edit: Best Buy has their in house model for 499.99. Comes with no infrared remote and no Alexa so if those are important to you than get the one from amazon

u/bradkeys · 2 pointsr/Televisions

$1298 on amazon.ca now. Same price at Best Buy.

u/Chairzard · 2 pointsr/Televisions

There are a few out there, but most "dumb" TVs nowadays are from third-tier manufacturers (RCA, Sceptre, etc) or various sketchy fourth-tier no-name manufacturers like Bolva, etc, and won't have desirable features like HDR or good warranties/customer service backing them. I'd generally recommend avoiding them, but they ARE out there if you're dead set on a TV without smart features:

Examples: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Sceptre-40-Class-4K-2160P-LED-TV-U405CV-U/54947077

https://www.walmart.com/ip/RCA-40-Class-4K-2160P-LED-TV-RTU4002/55686417

As others have said, consider a TV from a more reputable manufacturer (these are basically always smart, nowadays). If you're looking at 4k gaming, TCL/Hisense make budget sets that would be a big step up (and come with HDR to boot). The TCL S-series TVs are a good example (and have low input lag too):

https://www.amazon.com/TCL-49S405-49-Inch-Ultra-Smart/dp/B01MYGISTO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1500866187&sr=8-1&keywords=49S405

u/RatherMammonly · 0 pointsr/Televisions

OLED is dominated by LG.
There is currently the B6 model on sale but a little over your budget.
Amazon and TV Review 1, TV Review 2

Other brands such as Samsung have QLED and Vizio with their XLED TVs but they simply do not compare and are honestly over priced.

u/anapoe · 1 pointr/Televisions

I'll probably pick up the PQ65-F, looks like it's $1200 right now at Costco. I also grabbed a VESA base (link) since the Vizio's legs are wider than my cabinet.

One more question, though - the PQ65-F specs say it supports HDMI v2.0 but this article says HDMI v2.0 only supports 4k @ 60 Hz. So I guess you'd run most content @ 4k 60 Hz, then drop down to 1080p 120 Hz for games?

u/sycore3 · 1 pointr/Televisions

Yes. The new 2017 55" TCL P Series. 72 zone FALD, WCG, DolbyVision HDR, ultra low 15ms lag, built in Roku. There is a reason it is the #1 new item on Amazon. At its special intro price of $599 it is hard to find anything close that delivers the same performance. Amazon is saying 2-3 months, but TCL is saying mid June for shipping. Worth a look if you are not in a hurry.

https://www.amazon.com/TCL-55P607-55-Inch-Ultra-Vision/dp/B06Y6FSV5Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1496245688&sr=8-1&keywords=tcl+p

u/MiniXP · 1 pointr/Televisions

Something like this should do what you need. There may be cheaper ones out there, this is just the first one I saw on amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/Universal-Stand-swivel-height-adjustment/dp/B00IUUN6L2

u/themagpieswarble · 1 pointr/Televisions

https://www.amazon.com/VIZIO-M50-C1-50-Inch-Ultra-Smart/dp/B00T63YUJO/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1469481127&sr=1-1&keywords=Vizio+P50-C1

Hmm... yeah I'm leaning towards Samsung too. Seems more future proof than the Vizio (and higher quality.)

Is there any other TV I should be looking into for 4K HDR UHD around the $500-1200 range?

u/TheNaCliest · 1 pointr/Televisions

TCL 4k TVs. Rtings.com and forums hold them in high regard for their price point.

TCL S405 55inch $399

better quality but currently $649, could drop down on black friday.

TCL 55P607 55-Inch HDR
