Not OP but that looks pretty good! Thanks!

There's been a rash of Tintin-like comics in the last year, it seems.
It's 'Rich Tommaso' btw. Amazon will still find it, it just says that it can't (for me).
Wikipedia has a pretty good outline of what adaptions were created.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Adventures_of_Tintin#Cinema
There was 2 animated series, a French one in 1957 and a Canadian one in 1991. As well as 2 live action movies and 2 animated movies.
I imagine that it could be pretty hard to find legit copies of any of the older stuff, although there does seem to be a VHS of Tintin et le temple du soleil on Amazon.
Tintin and the lake of sharks is easier to find. I've seen english dubs of that around the place.
Tintin plush doll I honestly don't understand how 3 of these are still available at that price.
Tintin the Complete Companion If he doesn't yet have all the books, I assure you he will, after you get him this book.
Hergé and the Treasures of Tintin This book is incredible for every Tintin fan. What makes this really stand out are all the wonderfully reproduced pull-out facsimile documents of rare sketches, personal drawings, posters, unfinished pages. There are posters in here that I consider worthy of framing.
Tintin in the Congo English colour Collector's Edition A must-have for any Tintin fan to finally complete their collectionof all 24 titles. This was hard-to-find and out-of-print for awhile, but as of 2016 is once again in print and available for a reasonable price. Get one while you can.
Tintin figurines Absolutely any one of these. Shop around. They're out there.
...Coffee mugs, drinking glasses, t-shirts, I could go on, but I think you get the picture. :)
Jason Lutes' 'Berlin, City of Stones', & 'Berlin, City of Smoke'. Historical, but with action.
I've only read the first of these but, 'No Parasan!' (Vittorio Giardino) a story set in the Spanish Civil war; adventure, intrigue, /I imagine/, from my reading of only the first, that it's a bit Tintinish.
But good question. I swear, I've kept reading comics as long as I have on the strength of how good Tintins were, hoping to find an adult equivalent (whatever that means!)
This is great; Herge: The Man Who Created Tintin https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/0199837279/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_1KmSBb66M0MCY
But check out the online Tintin shop they have lots of different books: https://boutique.tintin.com/en/tintin-books-and-stationery/books-about-tintin-and-herge.html
Also, if you like podcasts check out Totally Tintin by David Derrick and Ian Boothby. The episodes are long but SO worth it. Lots of context, info about Hergé and history of Tintin.
Enjoy! X
Ooooh I see what you mean now. I don't think there's been any alterations from the original works (excluding Tintin in the Congo, and rightfully so), but personally the "portrait" style books tend to evoke more nostalgia as opposed to the "square" style books. I can't say whether this is the case for your boyfriend, but honestly I doubt he'd mind. The works speak for themselves and I'm sure it'll be an incredible present in any form :)
You know what? There is also the version translated into "arpitan", the old dialect spoken in canton Vaud (and other places), which our heroes do visit (they go to Nyon which is in Vaud). That would be more appropriate and I see at amazon.fr that it seems easier to find.
Les aventures de Tintin: L'afére Pecârd: Edition en arpitan
I mentioned the one in gruyérien first because that's the part of Switzerland I'm from. But I have a copy of both of them.

Tintin and the Temple of the Sun(1969) and Tintin and the Lake of Sharks (1972) are stand-alone movies also made by Belvision with much better animation and still fun to watch. The Calculus Affair (1964) was originally intended to be a movie and is released on DVD as a movie , but was first split into episodes and aired as the last Episode of the series and has the same animation style.

I found this. Seems like there are quite a few people complaining that the books are too small, though. Not a bad price.
