Responding in the order encountered, rather than by priority...

> POE Filter can be found here. That is on the line right as it gets into the house.

The "PoE" MoCA filter would ideally be installed on the input to the initial splitter, as doing so provides a performance improvement over having any length of coax between the "PoE" MoCA filter and the initial splitter's input. (This would provide a slight performance improvement and should be implemented, but isn't likely the cause of your Basement MoCA issues.)

> That goes into an Antronix 3 way splitter 5-1002MHz Model #: CMC2003BH-A Each output shows -5.58dB out

You'll want to upgrade this splitter to a MoCA-compatible model... such as this Holland balanced 3-way model. The existing splitter may not be blocking your MoCA signals, but may be contributing more loss than desirable.

> Output 1: Home Phone/Kitchen TV (Non Tivo Connected) Antronix FRA1-1510 Forward/Return amplifier/Splitter to get my home phone to work, One of the two Coax cables goes to power the modem for the home phone, the other for the non-TiVo TV

If you don't have any MoCA devices down this coax line, you should install a MoCA filter on the "Output 1" port to prevent MoCA signals from wastefully running down this line... especially since that in-line amplifier could create some unpredictable effects on the MoCA signals.

> Output 2: CommScope 2 way splitter Model SV-2G 5-1002MHz one goes to the guest bedroom where we previously had the other Mini and it worked fine (one we moved to basement) and the other goes to the Master Bedroom where a Mini that works fine currently is

Could upgrade to MoCA-compatible (e.g.), though shouldn't have any effect on your Basement MoCA issue.

> Output 3: Same two way splitter as Output 2. One goes to the cable modem I provided details for above and the other goes to the Tuning Adapter Model Cisco STA 1520

Per previous posts on recommendations for the tuning adapter setup, you'll need another 2-way splitter or switch to a single 3-way splitter, either balanced or unbalanced depending on your signal strength requirements. I'd prioritize upgrading this splitter, along with the initial splitter, to MoCA-compatible models -- though you might as well upgrade 'em all.

Also as covered in the previous tuning adapter setup recommendations, you'll need a second MoCA filter for your setup, here, installed as a "protective" MoCA filter on the input of the tuning adapter. (This would make it 3 total MoCA filters for your setup, if you also implement a MoCA filter to block-off Output 1 of the initial splitter, as suggested above.)

Further, if looking to boost the signal received at the cable modem and DVR a bit (i.e. 'Output 3' of the main splitter), at the expense of the other outputs of the main splitter, you could opt for an unbalanced 3-way as your initial splitter, connecting the low-loss output of the splitter as "Output 3." (Given the prices, you could order 2 each of the balanced and unbalanced 3-way splitters, then resell whatever you don't use.)

You are correct. I believe it's this one: https://www.amazon.com/TiVo-Roamio-500-DVR-Version/dp/B00EEOSZK0

But as you can see, I can only seem to find it on Amazon through, it looks like, a re-seller. I think of the two, the Bolt and this one, you have to go with the Bolt (faster, more HD space, 4K, etc).

So once the base Roamio's start disappearing, we will be left with the Bolt (for something that accepts both input). Which is fine, I'm just concerned that with the Bolt+ removing this feature, that's the direction they are headed going forward.

Tivo, the product, is great, but man do they want you to spend a ton of dollars. Is their expectation, going forward, that if you want Cable Card I go with the Bolt+ and if I want OTA I go with the Roamio OTA w/ no subscription fees? So spend close to $1K up front? With $150/year subscription fee going forward on the Bolt+?

This is why I'm researching SiliconDust HD HomeRun while I'm in my 15-day "return window". I do have the Bolt, so I can use both input, but I sure wanted 6 tuners and better streaming. And I surely want to figure out a way to not pay $150/year to use something I already bought.

No, the Premier is done the old way.

This section of the Tivo Community forums is dedicated to upgrading. This thread and this sitecovers the upgrading process and provides links to tools. If you need an image, then posting a request in this thread](http://www.tivocommunity.com/community/index.php?threads/need-an-image-dont-pm-me.388695/) should get you it - make sure to use the model number.

I believe the Premier is limited to 2tb drives (which gets you a little over 300hr of recording time) - more correctly, it can use bigger drives, but will only address 2.3tb. Additional hackery can be done to address larger drives - as weekknees does sell 8tb drives setup for Premiers. Drive wise, this one should be fine, but double check on the tivo forums.

Good luck!

u/TheNamesDave · 3 pointsr/Tivo

If you have intermediate PC skills, you can replace the drive yourself. The best thing about the Roamio and the new Bolt is that they both auto format any new hard drive you put into them up to 3TB.

This is the hard drive often recommended for the Roamio.

I'd recommend checking out TiVo Community for more info as well as assistance since it's a pretty vibrant place.

I might not fully understand your requirements, but I've had pretty good luck with my TiVo Bolt, and about 5 other devices, plugged into this 8-way HDMI switcher:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005S0YNNM

I programmed my Harmony remote so that it can set that device to any of its 8 inputs. (And through some quirk, the remote has to hit the command twice.) But once it's on HDMI, it works.

The TiVo is always on, so I put it and Apple TV last into the last 2 inputs. But I also don't rely on the auto-switch feature.

Note: The device is not perfect, but it works with my TiVo Bolt.

u/Walshcav · 1 pointr/Tivo

OK, I really tried to do the Dropbox thing but I failed miserably ... and I suck at Reddit formatting, so please excuse me but I appreciate your help and expertise.

POE Filter can be found here: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DC8IEE6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

That is on the line right as it gets into the house.

That goes into an Antronix 3 way splitter 5-1002MHz
Model #: CMC2003BH-A
Each output shows -5.58dB out

Output 1: Home Phone/Kitchen TV (Non Tivo Connected)
Antronix FRA1-1510 Forward/Return amplifier/Splitter to get my home phone to work, One of the two Coax cables goes to power the modem for the home phone, the other for the non-TiVo TV

Output 2: CommScope 2 way splitter Model SV-2G 5-1002MHz one goes to the guest bedroom where we previously had the other Mini and it worked fine (one we moved to basement) and the other goes to the Master Bedroom where a Mini that works fine currently is

Output 3: Same two way splitter as Output 2. One goes to the cable modem I provided details for above and the other goes to the Tuning Adapter Model Cisco STA 1520

Here is a problem ... in doing all of this I realized I can't trace back the coax to the basement one that is having issues, but hopefully with all of the information I have provided maybe some steps can be taken to alleviate that.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

That's probably the wisest thing. They make small "shelf" like stands that would protect the box without adding any significant height. They aren't all that expensive. Something like this.

u/KalenXI · 2 pointsr/Tivo

Yeah. Browsing through Amazon it looks like the selection has gone down a lot since I got mine back around the DTV transition in 2009. It used to be the SD ones were around $20 and a decent HD one was $50 or so and there were tons of different ones.

These were the only nice ones I found:
http://www.amazon.com/Zenith-DTT901-Digital-Tuner-Converter/dp/B001BNT3FS/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1380637035&sr=1-3&keywords=dtv+tuner

http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-DTBH260F-HDTV-Terrestrial-Receiver/dp/B000JV6TQY/ref=sr_1_22?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1380637035&sr=1-22&keywords=dtv+tuner

If you can find a Tivo for cheaper than that then go for it but I wouldn't consider the Tivo to be an exceptionally good tuner. It's decent but I live on the edge of where you can get OTA signals with a small indoor antenna and my Premiere actually had a harder time locking in on the channels than the tuner that's built-in to my TV.

u/PotRoastPotato · 1 pointr/Tivo

I have a Roamio OTA and it's fine. It will take you a day to get used to it. It's $30 on Amazon for a remote with a back button. Well worth IMO it for auto-commercial skip and HDMI-CEC. I had it for 5-6 years and after the initial fumbling around I had to admit it's simply a better interface.

But whatever floats your boat.

u/jacle2210 · 1 pointr/Tivo

We continue to suggest those sites to you, so that you can tell us what is available at your home, without this info there is no way for us to provide anything other than general info.

And if your unwilling to us an outdoor antenna (which I can understand) then it's time to give up on trying to get free OTA TV service and simply stick with pay TV access.

If your in a location that can receive a decent OTA feed, then it's great; for instance we haven't paid for TV for almost 10 years and are very happy with our OTA access; but we live in a large urban area and we are getting 17 channels.

We are using this antenna and even though it's labeled as an 'Outdoor' model, we have mounted inside our home and it's working just fine.

Moca for sure. Been there, done that. works well and easy to set up. Put the Moca in the basement and your bolt will get internet from the cable line and so will your mini.

Bonus is if you want wired internet elsewhere and there's a cable outlet near by, get another Moca adapter.

I used these. https://www.actiontec.com/products/home-networking/ecb2500c/

This one is newer and faster but the 1.0 will work fine for your application. https://www.amazon.com/Actiontec-MoCA-Ethernet-Adapter-ECB6000K02/dp/B013J7L6BW

u/kelleybp · 2 pointsr/Tivo

You've identified the fix -- using a 3 way splitter as you've described will work. Just make sure the splitter is MoCA compliant and that the tuner is connected to the Bolt via USB. I have a similar setup to you with cable running to modem, tuner and Bolt in one TV cabinet. Only difference is that I'm in a single family home so I was able to run my signal from the street thru a POE filter and into one of these and it has worked like a charm. Not sure if an amp would be necessary or advisable in an apartment setting -- you may be able to get away with a simple splitter

u/albaMP4 · 1 pointr/Tivo

I tried powerline adapters but they didn't work well. They were pretty quick but the signal wasn't stable enough. I ended up using DECA ethernet to coax adapters on both my TiVo and TiVo Mini and they're working well.

The cost appears to be higher than Amazon and the warranty isn’t comparable. I came across the WD10JUCT (1TB) for $54.99 and a 3 year warranty. The WD20NPVX (2TB) is priced at $142.55 and a 2 year warranty. Does Western Digital have one for 3TB that is only 2.5"? I hear they are the best brand.

With satellite not being used, check out MoCA. IMO, it is way more reliable than WiFi. They will require a bit of an investment.

I bought these a few years ago, they work really well: https://www.amazon.com/Actiontec-Bonded-Ethernet-Adapter-ECB6200K02/dp/B013J7O3X0/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=MoCA+adapter&qid=1558476543&s=gateway&sr=8-3

Amazon Search: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=MoCA+adapter&ref=nb_sb_noss_2

Prior to the Actiontec devices, I was using some MoCA 1.1 devices from Netgear. If it wasn't for the sale a few years ago, I'd still be using them.

If you go with MoCA, you may want this filter at the entry point: https://www.amazon.com/Filter-MoCA-Cable-coaxial-networks/dp/B00KO5KHSQ/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=MoCA+filter&qid=1558476808&s=gateway&sr=8-3

I used this guide and bought a Seagate Backup Plus 4TB model STDR4000100 (Amazon link).

Best $120 I ever spent!

u/CookVegasTN · 1 pointr/Tivo

Aside from what everyone else has advised, you are missing the USB cable between the Tivo and the Tuning Adaptor, you should also use a splitter so you go from Cable line, to 2-way splitter. From 2-way splitter to TiVo and 2-way splitter to Tuning Adapter. In my case, the Tuning Adapter was introducing so much loss in its passthrough connection that I was getting all kinds of pixelation and signal drop. Also, get a good quality splitter if the cable company did not provide one. (They did for me in my self-install box but I tried to not use it.) This is a good one: https://www.amazon.com/Premium-Coaxial-Splitter-Bidirectional-Communications/dp/B00NE0G23W/

POE Filter. Very cheap, like $9 on Amazon. It just keeps your home network closed to the coaxial network outside your house (your neighbors, etc.).

u/GNUtoReddit · 3 pointsr/Tivo

The only moca adapter you need is where the cable comes into your house. The Bolt has moca built in. I just completed my setup. 1 Bolt and 3 minis.

They do make moca amps, but I didn't need one.

Good luck!

Does anyone have any experience with this drive? Or can anyone recommend any other specific drives?

u/IphtashuFitz · 3 pointsr/Tivo

If you have a spare ethernet port on your router or the "splitter" you mention (I'm assuming a switch) then all you need is an ethernet cable from the switch/router to the port in the wall that runs to the bedroom, and a second ethernet cable running from the mini to the ethernet port in the bedroom wall.

If you'd rather use a MoCA connection then you'd need to buy a MoCA adapter like one of these, along with a Coax splitter & some coax pigtails, and run an ethernet connection from your switch/router to the MoCA box, and connect the MoCA box to your existing coax using a splitter.

So ethernet will be much less expensive considering you already have a run between the two rooms that you can use. And you don't gain or lose anything by going with ethernet over MoCA. I've been running ethernet between my Romaio (recently upgraded to a Bolt) and a Mini for a few years now.

u/joshkramer42 · 2 pointsr/Tivo

You totally can! You MUST use a MoCA POE filter somewhere between the ONT and where it goes into the splitter to go out to the rest of your residence though. Even if your coax is isolated from the outside world, having that filter is what made MoCA work for me everywhere I’ve ever used it.

Here’s the Amazon link...
