DON'T USE A PRESSURE WASHER!!!!

But before you clean your bike, go ahead and clean and lube your chain FIRST. Then, give the bike a quick spin for a few miles. That way any excess chain lube doesn't splatter all over your fresh detail job.

Wait for your bike to cool down (20-30 minutes on a 70 degree day)

Then just get a bucket of soapy water, and a sponge or clean soft rag and wipe your bike down. You can pretty much use that for every surface, but start with the painted bits, then move to things like the engine and wheels. After that I usually just wipe it down with another clean rag and some fresh clean water. Then I dry the bike with a chamois. After that I use a product called SC1 to give it that show room sparkle. Follow the directions on the can. It's pretty much just spray the crap all over and let it sit for a few minutes and then wipe it off with a soft clean dry rag.

It's a lot more involved than going to the drive through car wash, but your baby is worth it!

It can happen for several reasons but if it's very humid I suppose it becomes more likely. Headlights are all ventilated in order to keep them from exploding due to pressure differences so they can't be air tight. But age and leaks and such can also happen, in addition to condensation.

The 09 still had the round headlights, right? You should consider an upgrade anyway, the 5.75 inch Triumph round reflectors are really bad. The cheap but quite worthwhile thing would be to get new Halogen reflectors for it, but quality this time. Like some Hella Vision Plus reflectors.

http://www.amazon.com/HELLA-002850811-Halogen-Conversion-Headlamp/dp/B001G7A9YS might do the trick.

Replacing the reflectors is quite easy. You just open the headlight buckets, remove the tension clips holding the original reflector to the trim ring, put in the new reflectors and replace the clips.

More light and possibly less moisture in the headlights as well with new and higher quality units.

And of course, if you want to really improve your light output you can get 5.75 inch LED reflectors (reflectors with built-in LED that are actually legal for road use). The cost starts going up though, a 5.75 inch Vision X Vortex will set you back $400-ish (and you need two). But the light output from two of those is pretty epic, especially with the accessory that fires up both low and high beam when you go to high beam. Though, it may require some creative wiring, might not have enough space in the stock headlight buckets to wire, may have to extend them back under the tank or some such.

Something like this https://www.12vlightingwholesale.com/product/vision-x-kit-of-two-black-chrome-face-575-round-vortex-led-headlight-w-low-high-halo

Edit: you can of course open the headlight bucket up, remove the lamp and then dry the reflector with compressed air or something else that blows air. But it probably won't be a permanent fix.

Other people mentioned the Battery Tender adapter, which is great.

This guy did a great review on some Bonneville upgrades, and the charger set up he did is excellent.

https://ericwais.wordpress.com/2015/06/20/day-21/

I am pretty sure this would mount on a ST just the same. I use this on a 60 mile round trip commute and its great. Good visibility and it keeps everything charged.

Basically get these:

Arkon Case

Tender Adapter

Battery Tender Harness

And a small piece of velco with glue on it to hold the adapter/cord to your bike when not in use.

Do you really commute 200 miles a day? Or is that just a fun trip you have planned?

The original post found here.
Original post's bag here.
The bag I used here here.

While I was looking for the least expensive version of this bag, I came across a different version of the bag that seemed to work better towards this purpose. The big difference being that the top strap on the bag I used comes off and doesn't have any brass buckling. It has 4 loops (two on the top and bottom) on the back of the bag, which made super quick work with 4 zip ties.

Also, the leg buckle it came with added perfect as a seat strap. Loving the look of having both of them on there.

Here's another tip: I found the top fork click adjustment at the top of the forks on the Street Triple R (and many bikes for that matter) is almost impossible to easily reach in to adjust without a very long handled screwdriver with a small blade (or without removing the handlebars). This little tool is awesome and I'd highly recommend picking one up, makes the top fork click adjustments an absolute breeze (triumph should really provide this little tool IMHO).

If your in the US it's available on amazon here: http://www.amazon.com/Race-Tech-Fork-Clicker-Adjuster/dp/B000WPU9AE

If your in Canada it's available here: http://www.canadasmotorcycle.ca/race-tech-fork-clicker-adjuster-tool-tfca-01.html

Cheers!

Have not done it myself yet, but planning on doing the same to my scrambler, air box removal/new pipes. Look around on the triumph rat forums. Tune your ecu with this and from what ive found on those forums its pretty easy. Some dudes have posted the ecu map. Or there are links to websites that have different maps.

This might help too

I actually did not know that the ECU was unlocked and able to be tuned, that post was news to me. Whenever we did a triumph we sent it to the shop next door to be mapped, We never bothered to ask what they were using to do it.

but a little bit of google-fu and I found some useful info, hope this helps. I'm definitely going to be experimenting with this software as well

Yes, I'll grab you a link to the ones I have. They're super bright and fit excellently.

Oh man now I can't wait to get started! So what I'm thinking (right now at least) is I'm going to replace the fender with this kit with a retro tail light. https://www.amazon.com/Motone-Fender-Eliminator-Miller-Style/dp/B01GNOSWQA/ref=sr_1_12?keywords=triumph+fender+eliminator&qid=1563044543&s=automotive&sr=1-12 .

I also might go with some chrome Rizoma turn signals. I like the idea of increasing my visibility but I think I want to stick with the chrome theme the bike already has going. I'm also going to get some lower profile handlebar mirrors, I'm not a huge fan of the mickey mouse ones. And then top it all off with a more cafe style seat in black.

Thanks for the links and advise, it's really helpful. I'll be sure to post pics as I go. Also, I'll let you know if I decide I'd like those turn signals, still planning a bit here.

when you buy a battery tender it will come with a lead for connecting to the battery, as well as a lead that has battery clamps/clips on it for temporary charging.

this "lead" has two wires on one end and a fitting like the USB adapter in /u/afeagle1021's post (except it is the MIRROR IMAGE of that fitting). The two wires will go on your battery terminals (aka posts) via loops installed on their ends that go around the battery terminal screws, where you bike's electrical system makes it's contact with the battery.

there is an indicator for polarity on at least one of the wires, make sure it is attached to the corresponding battery terminal. then you plug your bike into the tender overnight and plug the usb adapter in when you need to power your phone when you are riding.

you might need to get creative about how you run your usb cable if you want it secured and out of the way.

The only thing I had to do was get longer screws for the retainer rings, because they are a little tight. Other than that it's plug&play!!! Had them about 6 months now and they are wonderful!

Hmmm... interesting. I've been using Castrol 10w-40 full synthetic motorcycle oil since i've owned it. This one, right? My oil levels look fine and everything too, though I've heard controversy over the dipsticks in my model? Maybe I should try and add some extra oil to see if it stops it? I don't want to overfill but I also don't want it to be under filled. If it's not the oil, what else could it be?

For the SAI system, are there any drawbacks to bypassing it? Do you have a guide to show how to remove these things and what parts I would need? Thanks for the reply!

I got these for cheap on my Speed Triple, just used the original hardware from the bar end caps. Going on 6k miles and they're holding up great.

I like these - they are short enough that they don't get dislodged when you're putting a helmet on, and maintain all the intake/exhaust sound that you want to hear :)

Edit: Also every time, unless I don't plan on exceeding 30 mph.

This is the right answer. You can find posts on this sub that show what they look like.

u/Bonneville865 · 3 pointsr/Triumph

I use this one:

https://www.amazon.com/Battery-Tender-021-0128-Maintain-Damaging/dp/B00068XCQU/

But this one would probably also do the trick:

https://www.amazon.com/Battery-Tender-021-0123-Junior-Charger/dp/B000CITK8S/

Should be able to find them at your local auto parts store, or even Walmart or someplace like that.

You really can't go wrong with the [VW Exhaust Tips.]

Costs about $35 for the tips plus you'll need to remap your ECU which if you use TuneECU (free software) and an OBDII cable off Amazon it should only be $20 more to remap the ECU yourself. So all in all about $50 for a much louder exhaust which in my opinion looks waaaay better than the stock setup. I'll see if I can link pictures later.
