With good cinematography comes great lighting. When I first started in the film industry as Grip, I literally sat on the back of the truck between takes and read Harry Box's Set Lighting Technicians Handbook. Its invaluable information as far as lighting is concerned. The Grip Book by Mike Uva is another great handbook. Generally, if you walked into Barnes and Noble, all the other books on the shelf are worth a read. "Rebel without a Crew" And "Save the Cat" are some great reads.
What kind of globe?
A PS35 in Mogul base would work with THIS in theory.
If your talking about a GY9.5 Bi-Pin theatrical/stage lamp then the smallest housing is probably going to be the housing it came in. In theory if you had a large enough paper lantern you could wire up one of these to work, however if the globe touches the paper... lets just say the color temperature might get a bit more exciting.
Heavy fanning disperses those pockets of hanging haze elements. If you want to sell the effect, you should not be able to see the haze. It should have an overall consistency likel ike you put a low-con filter on your lens.
This stuff can also be handy for close up shots:
